The woman eyed the bag critically, giving a curt nod and smiling at the Raevan. "Looks great!" He was so sweet! She made sure to pick up another small bag of black taffy, so that the Frei wouldn't feel obligated. Alex curled her arm beneath Sevilin's gossamer wings, gently urging him towards the front of the store so she could pay. After getting the two bags weighed and paying for her own small bit of sweets, the two departed the store and began to make their way home at a leisurely stroll.
Alex held Sevilin's arm with hers, twined together like gossiping friends, the bag dangling from her other hand as they walked, enjoying the nice day. She took a deep breath, relishing the ghost of ocean salt in the air, smiling to herself. "We should go to the bea-..ch..."
Her green eyes turned sharply as she heard something in a near by shrub, one of many lining the road. It was a quietly whimpered something, a not-moving-much something, and most definitely an animal something. She carefully removed herself from Sevilin, murmuring, "Just a minute Sev," as she kneeled to observe the leafy green growth. The woman could not leave a critter, and it sounded like there was one stuck--!
And she saw it. A soft hiss through her teeth was made as she dropped the bag of sweets and reached her hands into the thorny shrub, wincing a little as an effort to untangle something was made. There were a few more whimpering noises before there was silence, a handful of minutes passing before the woman withdrew the shrub's treasure, bundling it in her arms to show to the Frei.
It was a black german shepard pup, likely no more than a couple months in age, rather thin and dirty with a ratty collar that had gotten caught in the mangled greens.

Sevilin gladly followed his babysitter to the register, watching his bag protectively as the clerk rang it up. It was going to be a good week.
He took Alex's arm gladly, leaning against her as they walked. He felt wonderfully comfortable with her, the usual stares and comments not fazing him in the least. He usually hid behind We`rika as his guardian toted him about taking up most of the stares for him like bullets. But this was much nicer.
He looked up at her as she began talking, but a slight frown formed on his cherry lips as she halted. "What?" He watched her crouch by the bushes nervously. Well nervously because what if she dropped his candy in the bush?! It would be sad.
When he heard the soft yelping of an animal, the little Frei floated closer, anxious to see what she pulled out. "Ohh! It's a puppy!!" He pulled closer and very gently scratched the dog's head with his little fingers. The little pup whimpered at the attention and Sevilin whined right back. "It's soo cute... Why is it out here by itself?"

"It's probably lost, or," she checked the collar, frowning to herself, "abandoned. There's no tag." Well damn, she didn't need a puppy while babysitting, but she wasn't going to leave it. She'd have to take it back to the apartment...but as long as she kept it barricaded in the bathroom, it shouldn't make a mess...she could find it a home later, or take it to the pound, anything but just LEAVE it!
Alex looked back to Sevilin, offering the complacement bundle of puppy to him. "Do you want to carry him, and I'll carry the bag? We'll need to stop back at the store, I'll get home some food and lay out some newspaper, and we'll take care of him until We`rika gets home, okay?" She smiles warmly at the Frei, waiting to see if he'd comply.

Abandoned? "Poor doggy..." Sevilin whined with the pup, floating lower to watch him lick at Alex's palm. How could someone just throw away something so small? The Raevan didn't understand. When you have something, you are supposed to take care of it. That's what everyone always said on TV or in real life. That's how things were done, so why did some not?
"Okie! I wanna hold the dog..." Excited by the proposal, he held out his hands and let Alex place the shivering puppy into his arms. He was warm under the little Frei's cool hands. Warm and soft. The little dog yawned with a short squeak and looked up at Sevilin. Hi... The German Shepherd whined back and thumping his tail against Sevilin, he licked the Raevan's face eagerly. He laughed softly and looked up his babysitter who was waiting.

Alex watched the two interact with fondness, inclining her head at Sevilin's expression. "He likes you. He has good taste." She chuckled, taking the bag from the Frei and leaning down to pick up the other discarded one. "To the store!" she announced dramatically.
It didn't take more than thirty minutes to gather all the necessary supplies and return to the apartment, setting up a makeshift area for the puppy in the bathroom. Video games were forgotten in favor of the baby animal, which underwent a brief but thorough inspection by the careful Italian. Alex was a little surprised that the puppy was as in good a shape as he was, as it seemed the poor thing had been on its own for some time. No fleas or mites that she could see, no bones showing and only a thorn to be removed from his paw, which she did with the upmost care; all in all, the puppy was healthy and as puppy-ish as could be.
Alex continued to watch both of her charges, standing behind the quickly constructed gate of cardboard and newspaper to keep the puppy in the bathroom. "We gotta name him," she informed the Raevan, "everything needs a name, even if we don't keep him. What do you think?"

This had indeed turned into one of Sevilin's best days. Too bad We`rika wasn't here to enjoy it either. And at least he could have carried it! The puppy squirmed in the little Frei's arms. Huffing, Sevilin put him down and then picked him up again, holding him under his little stubbly forearms.
"Jeez yer heavy!" The puppy yipped and licked his chin, nosing his way through Sevilin's blue hair and snapping at the fly-away hairs that didn't get tucked into his ponytail.
He was glad when they returned as he was all but dragging the poor animal on the ground. With the door opened, he set the dog on the floor and it went scampering off. "Hey!" Sevilin squealed and floated after him. He had run under We`rika's bed, yipping and growling as he tugged against something. "What are you-- Uh oh..." The little puppy had gotten a hold of one of We`rika's adult magazines. "Let go!" The watery Raevan pulled the dog away, leaving the page to tear away.
"......" That was Sevilin's cue to leave. He flew out as fast he could, trying not to let his guilt slip. When Alex suggested to put him up in the bathroom, he readily agreed.
"A name? Uhmmm..." Sevilin picked up the pup, watching his little pot belly draw in and out, sizing up the little dog as he thought. "... Sprinkles! Definitely..." Sevilin looked up at his babysitter and nodded satisfied.

"Sprinkles it is! Sound good, kiddo?" she smiled at the puppy, resting a hand on the Frei's shoulder. To Sevilin, she said kindly but with a stern tone, "Now, don't feed him any candy or anything, we don't want Sprinkles to get sick, okay?" She moved her hand to tap the Raevan's nose playfully, "And you too. Don't eat it all in one sitting." Alex winked playfully, moving away from the bathroom to give the two some time. She imagined We`rika would be home soon anyway, so it wouldn't hurt to get things cleaned up and ready.

"Sprinkles! Hey Sprinkles... C'mere Sprinkles! ... Sprinkllllleees!!" Sevilin drummed excitedly on the cardboard below him, trying to get the puppy's attention. Finally it turned around and waddled to his flapping fingers, sniffing them with a cold wet nose. Giggling, the watery Raevan picked him up and held him. He kissed Sprinkles between the eyes and rubbed his soft floppy ears.
Clutching Sprinkles tightly to his chest, Sevilin began to sob. He didn't know why. He just didn't want to leave the puppy. He was all alone and it made him hurt inside. That was when he heard the front door open and the usual loud voice accompanying his guardian.
Unlocking the door, We`rika stepped in with a usual "I'm home!--Oh hey...." He pulled out his wallet and keys and set them on the stand beside the door, rubbing his back gingerly. He was completely covered in sweat, his shirt sticking to every curve and crack of his back and chest. If Alex started to swoon it would probably be from the rank smell. But no one can be impressive 24/7. "Was he any trouble?" The Huichol looked around for Sevilin, but decided to sit on the couch, sighing heavily at finally getting off his feet. Sevilin would come out when he wanted to.
And then he heard soft barking. His long ears perked up and he looked behind him and then to Alex. "Wha' was tha'?"

Alex glanced over from her packing long enough to move her own belongings off the couch as We`rika came home. She smiled, rather unphased by the sweat (she worked outside too, sometimes for days; she was quite understanding), shaking her head happily at his question. "He's a dream," she assured him, moving her bag to the door. At his next question, she reached into one of her bags, producing his taffy of choice and tossing it at the shaman.
"We found a pup while we were out," she explained, calm and smiling. "Looked like hell. I'm gonna see if I can't find his owner before taking him to the po-..." Alex turned her head, looking towards the bathroom. It wasn't the dog that had caught her attention. "Sev...?" she asked quietly, not really loud enough to reach the Raevan, but more in question if that horrible sobbing that she heard was really him. She moved slowly to the side until she could see; what her eyes fell on made her heart break, her expression dimming into sadness, concern, and maybe a spot of dread. That adorable face was no doubt twisted into tears and pain within the fur of the puppy...
The woman groaned quietly to herself. Could she really take it to the pound if no one claimed it? Hell, could she take it away from Sevilin at all now?
Great. Just great.

"A dream?" We`rika snorted. Apparently he was the only one to see the darkside of good ol Sevvie. "Well thas good..." Sighing, the man slumped back against the couch, kicking off his boots and fumbling for the remote that never stayed in the same place twice. Alex kept talking behind him, but he had completely zoned her out. Not on purpose, but he required an hour of him time before he was in a talking and appreciating mood. Work just took a lot out of him and he usually got crabby right after.
At the sound of Alex entering the bathroom, the young puppy began fidgeting, crawling up onto Seviln's shoulder and yipping at the intruder. The little Frei looked up at his babysitter, his big blue eyes swimming red from crying. "Don't take him away..." Sprinkles eventually wiggled from Seviln's grasp and he began waddling past Alex and into the living room.
"Wha' ******** is tha'?!"
"Sprinkles!" Sevilin floated after the dog, finding the little German Shepherd barking at We`rika. And We`rika about to bark right back at it.
"Someone wanna fill me in here...?"
The watery Raevan picked Sprinkles up under his arms and hoisted the pudgy little dog into his arms. "My... dog..."
The shaman stumbled back like he had been shot. He looked for Alex, praying this was all some sick a** joke.

She groaned again, actually smacking her own forehead with her hand. We`rika was such a...such a MAN. "I just said," she replied calmly, only a hint of growl in her voice, "we found a pup. I was...am going to look for his owner, but if no one calls...I can't keep a dog where I am, I'm not home enough." That was her subtle way of telling the shaman that the pound would be the next place, barring some type of adoption. Alex tried to frown, but failed miserably at the sight of Sevilin and his watery blue eyes.
A sigh escaped her. She looked at the pitiful Raevan, her expression one of a typical female who has seen something so adorable she just can't bring herself to speak. Alex then turned her gaze to We`rika, her face shifting into the 'what can you do?' look. If he was going to be the d**k and take it away, well, that was on HIS head. She damn sure wasn't going to tell the adorable Frei no!

"Well, I think is time for ya ta leave Miss Falcone, and ya can take th'fleabag with ya..." The only time he ever used etiquette when he was fishing for some high-class tail or atrociously angry. And it was a little early in th evening to be fishing.
"No! He's... he's mine! Sprinkles is all alone and... he likes me. And! Alex bought food for him already!" Sevilin held the black puppy close to him, ignoring the wiggling and chewing at his hair. The dog looked back at We`rika and barked. It finally wibbled free of the boy's tight grasp and went waddling back to the bathroom.
The Huichol narrowed his eyes in mirth at his ward and walked over to Alex with the same dark anger. He pressed a firm hand to her back and guided her to the front door.
Following far behind, the solemn blue Frei watched his babysitter escorted out and waved glumly. He still had a nice time, even if We`rika ruined it.

Alex bit back a less than kind reply, offering a smile to Sevilin over her shoulder and a little wave. She really liked the Frei...and he seemed so very lonely. "Take care, Sevilin. It was a pleasure to spend the day with you! Be good for your father!"
Once at the door, the woman barely looked at We`rika as she walked out, bag slung over her shoulder. "If you decide to actually listen to me, call me and I'll pick the pup up. Otherwise, you know where the pound is." Her voice was low and meant only for We`rika. Alex was rather explosive in her anger, but because of her fondness of the charge in the shaman's care, she kept an upmost and professional attitude. She didn't even do so much as check to see if the man had slammed the door on her or not, already knowing she was wasting her time and breath to explain it was not her intent for the Frei to keep the dog.
What she REALLY wanted to say was less kind and involved telling him to grow a pair, but she was already down the hallway. She glanced over her shoulder once in a hope to see the watery charge and pup again, before disappearing out of the building for what she assumed would be the last time.
