i wouldnt have a problem with it being recognized accurately, but i dont like that its becoming widely recognized as the stuff gwen stefani is doing. it would be great if i could find more lolita stuff in stores, but im not really big on so many uneducated and misseducated people claiming to know what it is.

I personally have no problem with it becoming more popular. Sure, some of the Lolita culture may become a little hazy when more and more people start dressing this way, but as long as there is at least one person truly dedicated the Lolita lifestyle, then it will live on.
Plus it will make it so much easier to actually get the clothing. And less expensive. Hopefully. >.>; *is broke*

Oh yeah, it would be great if it was easier to get. Of course, I don't know how popular it will actually get...I could bet you right now that the fact that it's called "Gothic" will have a lot of people making fun/hating the idea of it. Of course, it's not all black and evil, but people won't look past that...

Plutokat Could care less... I will be a loli forever it can be good in a way that the gothic lolita companys will start shipping over seas or even have stores in the US What makes you say that? Japanese companies like Angelic Pretty don't make that much money. Yes, their things are pretty expensive, but each company only has a few professional seamstresses, and only has a few stores. Plus, when it comes to dresses, a lot of companies use very good quality fabrics and laces (such as Baby, the Stars Shine Bright) making the clothing expensive - the average American teen does not spend $300 on a dress to wear casually, don't you think? There's a rumor that Mana is going to open a Moi-meme-Moitie in Paris, but that's it. It's not like he's going to open a few in the rest of Europe, a few in America, etc. I could go on and on about this - so don't expect it anytime soon.

However, Japanese Loli companies making the clothing for US may be a good thing, even if it expensive. Then Loli won't be made as a slutty-type fashion, and the clothes will stay the way they are- modest dresses.
Then, of course, there may be companies making slutty knock-offs out of cheap fabrics. sweatdrop

If Lolita gains popularilty, I fear it will lose it's meaning. It will no long be "cute." I know they would alter it to make it sexy in some way. That's just how style is, sadly. The meaning would be lost then. People won't even know the meaning. It'll just be a fashion. Lolita would no longer be Lolita. It would like Harajuku or something. It's not good. It might be easier for us to find, but then, it wouldn't be the same. Lolita would be some weird thing. And as some said, it would probably be classified as goth or childish. Here in the States, people don't like looking younger. So Lolita would probably fail.

I'm on the fence...but my legs are swingin' on the not-too-happy-about-it side. I completely agree with everyone and the whole "in-croud wearing it" thing. I just fear that the real lolitas will get lost in the sea of posers....I mean, yes the clothing would be cheaper (and maybe some closet lolitas will be able to shine)...but still. Do we really want to be connected to those kind of people who just wear it 'cause it's in. But maybe they won't take it so far and the line between lolita and poser will be insainly obvious...at least, that's what I'm hopin' for. whee

I wouldn''t worry about Gothic Lolita getting to be too popular. Most kids aren''t too keen on Gothic lifestyle and fashion. (Fergin'' preps stressed )

Brenli I honestly consider the recognization to be an inherently good thing. Though I realize that American culture is different from Japanese culture, I still believe that the diehard loli fans in America will go about this in the right way. Selfishly I must admit that the idea appeals to make because I can get things cheaper now. I have a job, finally, though I don't make enough to buy online (plus I don't have a credit card), and I don't have the time to sew as much anymore. In spite of that, I feel that the exposure is good. True that this puts lolita fashion at risk for becoming a weak fad, destroying what it really is. Of course, the same can be said the punk fashions and goth fashions, if one thinks about it enough. It is just something that if destined to happen to all the fine things in life. I say we grin and bear it. that's exactly how I feel. I can't help but think that it would be great.

I will be really mad, if stores start selling Gothic Lolita clothing, and calling it 'Victorian Goth' or 'Goth Kiddie' or just 'Goth' clothing. Honestly, I'd demand to talk to the store maneger and straighten him out. neutral
