"You," a voice said from above, "must be Ami." Not leaving her spot, Megumi looked down upon the young man who was leaning against the town gates. She had squatted down on the top of the town walls, after she had managed to climb upon them.

Humans were left relatively unharmed, even after curfew, because most species thought it unfair to take upon a human with no powers. Megumi quite liked it that way, although her blood wasn't all human. She was from mage descent, but her human side had gotten the upper hand.

Ami tilted his head back again, this time to look for the source of a woman's voice. He was immediately struck by the brightness of Megumi's eyes, and the soft darkness that ran through her tresses. Human, with a touch of something else. Some kind of old magic, he guessed.
Ami smirked to himself, pocketing his lighter with one hand as he slipped the cigarette between his fingers with the other.
"Must be." He replied smoothly, and returned the cig to his mouth, head still cocked backwards to watch Megumi.

Megumi caughed lightly, before speaking again. "Could you put out that f**? I can't stand the smell of it." After this, she leeped of the wall, to land just about exactly next to Ami.

She never ceased to take in Ami's appearance, scanning his physics with her bright blue eyes.

Ami cracked his neck to one side, then the other, popping it. He flicked the cigarette onto the dirt and grounded it out with his shoe, then turned his attention back to Megumi.
"So. What's your story." He said disinterestedly. They were always the same. No one understands me, my parents won't let me do this, I can't do that, blah blah blah. Then he'd babysit the kid for a couple years, they'd grow up, and he'd move on. Like an imaginary friend for the immortality impaired. It was a thankless job, but, well, he didn't have much choice in the matter.
Ami unconsciously traced a finger along the edge of the collar fastened around his neck as he waited for Megumi's reply, his poison green eyes focused upon her face.

"Well, my parents died a couple of years ago, as they were both carriers of some defective gen that made them very sick. Since they both had the defective gen, I won't live to grow old either. Doctors said I'd be very lucky to make it past 35. So I have about eleven years left." Megumi answered.

Although she felt somewhat uncomfortable with Ami's gaze, she never once broke eyecontact. "And basically, that's about it. But, since it's obvious I'll die early, I'd like to have as much fun as I can."

"Fun, ne?" Ami raised one eyebrow and broke into a wide, mischevious smile. "I think we can manage that."
Finally! Five decades of watching over mortals and never once did one think to take advanage of having their very own personal guardian. And now, after so long, maybe this girl would be different. Break up the monotony, even if it would be just for a short eleven years.
Ami's grin grew until his unnaturally sharp teeth became exposed to the moonlight, causing them to glisten comically. "Well sunshine, with such a bright outlook on life you can't go wrong."

"Well, I certainly hope not. That defective gen is wrong enough for my life." Megumi smiled. She took a step forward and inhaled deeply. "I can't understand how people can smoke. Can't you smell the delicious night air?"

Megumi turned around to face Ami. "Then again, who am I to judge." She squated down and turned her gaze upward, waiting. "So, what are we gonna do? I was only randomly told to meet you out here.."

((Ack, sorry I didn't post for a few days...couldn't get access to a computer ><))

She heard his offer and for a moment, her eyes flickered downwards towards his hand, those pale eyes squinting slightly as she considered. For an elf, he seemed friendly enough, and she of all people knew better than to judge people based solely on their racial background. After all, wasn’t it just such discrimination that had put her in this mess? Biting her lip with a tiny, almost inaudible sigh, she accepted his hand with a silent not, an indication that she would accept his help. “Thanks…” She murmured quietly, her gaze returning to the ground, where it stayed this time.

Ami gave a short burst of suprised laughter. "No one told you?" He grinned down at Megumi. This was a first. Usually the kids had at least a vague idea about the reason for his arrival; the all mighty was getting sloppy.
"The Godess sent me to watch over you," Ami explained patiently. "A.... guardian angel, of sorts."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 16, 2007 1:19 am

"The Godess sent you? To watch over me?" Megumi repeated in surprise. "Lol, I never thought I needed someone to watch over me. Does this mean I'm important to her for some reason? Cuz if this is out of pity, you may return and tell Her I don't need pity. I can do just fine on my own, I know how to fight and how to take care of myself. I've done so for the past couple of years and I can continue doing it until I die. I think so anyway." The flow of words never seemed to stop coming from Megumi's mouth, as if she hadn't the time to breathe.

Ami smirked, bitterly. "You speak about it as if either one of us has a choice. Sorry, sunshine. You're stuck with me."

((heh, writers block >.<))

"Phe.." Megumi protested. "Just know I'll kick your a** if you even think of pitying me." Megumi pushed herself up from the wall and took a few steps forwars.

"So yeah, as my guardian, you have to follow me around don't you?" Megumi said with a mischievous smile, before running off into the dark.

Ami laughed softly. This was going to be interesting. He pulled out a cigarette from the pack he kept in his pocket, taking his time to light it and enjoy a few puffs. Satisfied, he tossed the lit cig onto the ground and lightly walked away, before he too disappeared into the shadows.
Anti-climatic, yes, but there was no need to hurry. Ami had been at this for a long, long time.

Ryoga walked along the streets of of the town, his arm bleeding from the attack of Renegades. "******** renegades, killing my whole crew. If only PFC. Howe had listened to orders." He fell to the ground from lose of blood. "Damn, now I can't even move." He looked around for anyone who could help, but saw no one. "Can some one help me!" He shouted as he fell into an unconcious state.
