The blanket was suddenly flying through the air, and Kaori was on her feet before it landed on the roof again, looking at the man with a carefully expressionless face. She took a second to confirm that it was in fact the same man as before, then crossed her arms and glared down at the seated man.
"What the hell," she began, her voice soft, "Do you want?" As she spoke, she ran over her predetermined escape routes in her mind, and decided that if it came to it, she'd go through the house itself. He didn't look like the type to enter the dwelling after her; the way he spoke was completely outdated and almost ridiculously polite.

Rowan makes no moves as Kaori jumps to her feet. he doesn't even change the direction of his gaze, northwards towards a giant Rowan tree growing in the woods.
Rowan: I simply want to talk. After seeing what you did today i was curious. I want to know why you did it for i can see no real gain on your part for the small amount of true jewelry among the cheaper costume jewels you stole. I enjoy learning things and thus i wish to talk.

"You enjoy learning things," repeated Kaori in a flat voice. "Good for you. Learn about someone else, please." She walked over and grabbed her blanket, then stalked past without looking at him. She reached the edge of the roof, and without pausing, jumped off. As she fell, the shadow of the house seemed to thicken, somehow slowing her fall. Landing gently on the ground, she fairly skipped to the garden fence and hopped over it. Time to find somewhere else to sleep.

As Kaori turns a corner she runs straight into Rowan again. He shows no sign at all as to how he could have gotten here faster than Kaori for he is not winded and indeed seems not to have expended more effort than walking up a flight of stairs.
Rowan: It is a cold night, I would offer you a trade. Give me a single day of your time to talk and learn and i shall provide you with a warm bed to sleep in and as much food as you can eat during that time.

Kaori blinked and took a step back. "I can buy my own food, thank you," she replied, trying to keep her voice steady. What the hell was this guy? No one could sneak up on her; that wasn't hubris, just fact. Her heart was beating at her ribs like a bird would a cage. She took another careful step backwards, into the almost pitch black shadow of a house. Suddenly, she was utterly and completely gone; vanished without a trace.
She stepped out of a shadow several blocks away, and blinked as she realized where she was. She shook her head firmly, no point in thinking about it, and stole silently across the street, trying to suppress the feeling that she was going to have to leave town. This... person was nothing if not persistent.

Rowan: Persistent, i like that term. It implies a certain tenacity. a most apt description.
Once again Rowan is blocking her path. again without apparent means of transportation.
Rowan: Let me rephrase my offer, you can either take me up on my trade or we can keep doing this until you do. It's your choice.

Kaori was by now quite unable to hide how scared she was. "Look, whatever-" She swallowed, and rephrased, "Whoever you are, I am probably the least interesting person to learn about in the entire town." He'd heard her thoughts! What the was he? Her eyes flicked over the ancient armor, his sword, then up to his face, and she set her jaw. "If you keep this up, I'm going to try and fight you. I have no doubt that you're better than me, but if you hurt me, then you'll be as good as killing yourself, and I don't care what sort of magic you have." She tried to make her voice as nonchalant as it usually was, and tried to keep the thought that this fact scared her as much as he did out of her head.

Another voice speaks up from behind Kaori.
"Rowan, is this the person you were talking about earlier? she is a thief and a cheat!"
Rowan: "Peace Ito, for i can see deeper than that. Kaori, if you wish to fight you will lose but i will not have to harm you in any way in order to win. It will be a much more pleasant experiance if you retire with us to my house. My food is excelent and my beds warm.

Kaori's shoulders slumped and she looked at the ground; now that there were two of them, she had no chance. "Fine," A sudden idea came to her, and she looked up again, but this time behind her. Her eyes widened as she realized that Rowan's companion was a young woman, but a young woman in very nice armor, and with an expensive looking sword.
Kaori allowed her expression to become interested and borderline greedy for a split second, something she was sure the Lady would catch. Then she turned back to Rowan. "Well, let's get this over with, shall we? I've never slept in a bed. Should be interesting." She started walking back towards the northern outskirts again, in the general direction of the rowen tree he'd been staring at.

Kaome entered the small town and looked around, Ryu stood guard at her side. This little place is where all the trouble began? She shurgged and looked for a place to sit and eat. She spotted a shop and went in. "Is there anything I can help you with, miss?" asked the shopkeeper. "I'm looking for a place to stay and eat. Do you know of such place?" The shopkeeper looked at Kaome and Ryu. "I do, but they wouldn't accept your compainon." Kaome bowed, thanked the shopkeeper and walked out. "Now what...?"

Rowan: How did she know where we were camping?
Ito: i don't really know. but we'd best follow her quickly.
Rowan: Indeed.

"You wants somewhere to stay? Go to the Rowan tree in the forest and speak your names. Someone may be there who can help you."
There is an old decrepit man huddled in the corner next to the garbage. He is missing most of his teeth and one eye darts wildy around as the other stares at Kaome.

aise ran down the street at full speed, chaced by a gang of bandits. "hurry up! that little cheat has our money! the bandits shouted at each other. "you mean my money, you thives!" he shouted back. as he rounded a corner, he saw 3 people in the middle of the road. two of them looked well fit for fighting, but he didn't want anyone hurt. "you three, get ot of the way!" he shouted as he turned and dodged the arrows shot by the bandits. he saw a small canteen around one of the girl's necks. perfect. he pulled some water out of the canteen and threw it at the bandits in the form of ice spikes. each one pierced the heart of each bandit rendering them dead. he walked over to the party of three. "are you all ok?" he asked them.

Kaori looked the newcomer over; he looked capable, and he obviously had magic. She looked him in the eyes, her expression innocently frightened. "Please help me," she whispered, "They're taking me, and I don't want to go with them." Hopefully, he would serve as a passable distraction, and allow her to make her escape.

Kaome stared at the old man with disqust. "Rowan tree? I've heard better ones." Ryu growled softly at the man but didn't move, a good sign. "But seeing as by partner isn't latched to your throuht I'll go to the tree." She and Ryu set out on the main road and followed it, coming up to four people standing in the middle of the road. With dead bodies laying around. "Well this is not something you see everyday," she commented to Ryu. He snorted in respone, ears erect and the hair on his back standing up. "Don't worry, I'll be careful."
