Bio: This crazy individual first appeared in April of 2007 and we haven't been able to get rid of him since. At first glance this fellow appears to be around for only one thing, COMIC RELIEF! With his wild and wacky personality things could never be boring when he's around. Once you get to know him however you see that he is a really nice person who will gladly drop everything he is doing to come to the aid of someone in need.
Previously going by the moniker of DragonRider, or DR as his name was often shortened to, when he first arrived he chose to go by the name of LordDragonFly for various reasons that are too numeous to list here. He still keeps the nickname of DR, it being far too entrenched to be replaced.
We recently had an opportunity to interview this strange fellow.
Who introduced this crazy fellow to the world of anime you ask? Well it can be traced back to a single event. In the fall of 2004 DragonFly took a class in video animation at his local High School. The teacher showed as an example of video animation one of the works of japanese animatior Hayao Miyazaki: Laputa: Castle in the Sky
After that DR was hooked and quickly amassed a collection that includes many of Hayao Miyazaki's other works as well as some other rather ecclectic titles.
We asked DR what his favorite thing about anime was and he answered that it is listening to the language and seeing the art. The art is so beautiful as to make an aspiring artist cry, and the language is so lyrical that it seems meant to be sung, not spoken. Although he does not yet speak Japanese DR is ferociously trying to learn.
When asked which of his anime DVDs he would keep if he had to give away all but three of them DR proceded to brutally attack our interviewer. After calming down and retrieving a cold compress for our injured interviewer DR admitted that if he absolutely had to give up all but three of his DVDs he would keep Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle, the .hack/SIGN DVD boxed set, and his Escaflowne Ultimate Boxed Set.
Durring the course of our conversation we also asked DR which anime character he would like to be and which one he would like to take with him to school/work. DR responded that he would like to be Piro of Megatokyo and that he wouldn't share with anyone.
We also asked which three characters he would invite over to dinner given the chance and what he would cook for them. DR answered that he would invite Rei Ayanami (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Noriko (From Far Away), and Chii (Chobits). He would cook a fine Filet Mingon wrapped in herbs and parchment paper, slow roasted in a wood burning oven, with a side of garden salad with a white wine sauce. He also admitted that after he utterly destroyed the meal while attemptiong to cook it he would just order lots of pizza and have an anime viewing party.
DragonFly has always been a bit of a geek, in fact in the summer of 2005 he made the switch to linux and has been using it exclusively on all his computers. His prefered distribution is Slackware Linux, the programmers linux.
Our last question was which anime is currently the top of DR's "I can't wait to get my hands on this" list. His answer was .hack//Legend of the Twilight (also called .hack//DUSK). Let us hope he gets it soon!
