Aph smiled at Tyson's comments. He was always so amusing. He should first answer Lillian's questions.
Turning to face the girl, he simply shrugged at the jar. "Dr Kyou makes those jars special to keep these things in check, so it's indeed wise to listen to him. If he doesn't want that thing taken out, then it's for good reasons." He smiled. "As for the soul, I'm pretty sure it DOES affect personality, but so does the fel essence. Eiry and Riv feed off the thing that was their Fel Essence. Riv eats night's darkness, and Eiry eats dead plants. Their personality does seem more dependant on their soul, as does their appearance. Riv looks very scorpiony, and he's as selfish and unapproacheable as that critter. Eiry is a prankster and incorporeal, like the willowisp he was made from. So, really, it's up to you."
He tried to think of good suggestions. "If you don't like the thought of taking the soul of something living, you can take a plant from your garden, or a rock from your yard. Otherwise, I dunno, take the soul of one of the thieves that you said always come after you." He snickered. "Joking, joking."
Now he turned to Tyson, and his questions of superpowers. "Hahaha, oh Tyson, I really don't know. It's all random as far as I know! He might have super fire power like Lazarus, or no power at all like Riv, who can just make poison. And that's not magical at all." He shrugged. "It all depends! You'll just have to wait and see!"

Lillian listened intently to Aphismet, hanging upon his every word as she soaked what he was saying up like a sponge. There were still unanswered questions but atleast now she had gotten the ones that had racked her brain answered. The teen and even Tyson laughed at the idea of taking the troublmakers soul.
"If we didn't have to dispose of a body nor deal with the cops it sounds like a good idea to kill two birds with one stone." Before Aphismet thought they would become murderers, Lillian quickly followed her sketchy words with a reassuring, "Joking!"
Tyson nodded alongside Lillian, as his questions were answered. It didn't sit well with him that their raevan may not have any powers. Yet there were still heroes who didn't have powers who still made a difference, Batman for example, or the masked man from Gambino Isle.
"Um...S'cuse me but...Aphi, where is your bathroom?" The tyke asked before anymore of Lil's boring questions were brought to light. But before Aphismet could give him an answer Tyson was already hurrying out of the kitchen and down the nearest hall. "Nevermind!" He called back as he retreated, "I can find it on my own!"

Aphi was about to answer the tyke when he took off. Ah well, let the boy explore; there was nothing dangerous in the house, apart for a few ghosts... And since it was Daytime, Edgar wasn't likely to pop up. The cook turned his attention to the girl instead.
"So, any more questions? And how've you both been, otherwise?" he asked, lacing his fingers together on the table to listen.
Rivener was already on his third painting. He had no intention to stop. He was smiling, humming lightly to himself, in one of those rare moments of happiness. He enjoyed painting very much, and he was getting quite good at it... His pieces didn't look like a child just splattered it on anymore. The people had limbs instead of sticks, and his painted plants in particular were good; he'd read some books on how to improve, and he'd watched that guy on TV with the big pouffy hair. He was a little creepy, but he helped.
Riv floated back from his latest painting. A tree through a window, which he'd been looking at just outside. Not bad! He smiled and nodded to himself, moving to take the canvas down and put a new one in its place.

Lillian bit her lower lip as she asked herself the same question. She cast her eyes down upon her lap where her thumbs were battling it out. "Well...we've both been pretty good. Alex has been coming over a lot now, it's pretty nice having some company. Um, Mom and Dad sent us this huge gargoyle statue which we've been trying to put on the roof..."
She couldn't help herself and laughed at the fact that they hadn't been able to get the darn thing past the foyer yet. "Oh, I'm looking for a job too! So if you know anyone whose looking to hire I'd love it if you would recommend me! Other than that nothing is going on. Actually, Tyson has been building on his collection of superhero knick knacks but that's the usual. He has been drawing a lot, his pictures are mostly of people he knows. I've seen a few with you in them a long with," Lillian shuddered, "Rivener."
The teen paused herself as she realized that she'd been babbling infront of him. "Oh excuse me, Aphi. As you can see, this is a whole new experience for me. Overall, my biggest fear is that this raevan and I won't get along. What if they hate me? Or what if I can't stand the way they act? Hasn't Rivener always acted well...you know, since he was created?"
"That's really nice..." A voice squeaked from the doorway of Aphismet's and Rivener's painting room. So much for finding the bathroom. All Tyson found behind the door was the raevan he was trying to avoid.
"So you like to paint?" The boy couldn't stop his wandering eyes as they scanned each and every painting in the room. "You're really good. Did you paint everything in here?" He asked as quietly as he could. The little guy's attitude towards Rivener had definitely changed since the last time they'd been together. Tyson's voice was now barely above audible and no longer did he run to Riv grinning and greet him with a loud "Hello". Instead, he remained safely in the doorway, and rarely did he attempt any sort of eye contact with the raevan.

Aphismet grinned at the story being woven for him. He enjoyed hearing about what the two were doing... Alex? Did they mean Alex the gwee researcher? Aphi chuckled, and for a fleeting moment, he wondered what Munchies was up to... Probably wreaking havok in the attic with Beau and Shalbriri. Sighing, Aphi resolutely promised himself to go check up there the minute everyone left.
"That's a normal fear. And Rivener, well... Yeah, he's been like that since he was created. Mean and aggressive. But that's how all scorpions are. Mine was tamer than the regular ones, but that trait wasn't transferred to my Raevan unfortunately." Aphi smiled. "However, Rivener doesn't hate me. I just... I'm just not gifted at knowing what he wants. He has moments when he's so gentle, and sometimes he loves me and says so. Those moments are very dear to me, even though he's a heap of trouble and usually doesn't seem to like me." He smiled. "As long as you listen to your Raevan and learn to communicate, just like with any kid, you should be just fine."
He smiled. "Besides, who wouldn't like you and Ty? You're both darlings."
Rivener startled at the sound. He hadn't heard the kid coming! Had he really been that distracted? Riv frowned at the child, but Tyson already seemed calm and toned down. Riv let his wings (which had subconsciously raised when the child entered) drop back to their normal place on his back. It wasn't as threatening when the kid was calmer.
He still didn't like him though! Riv decided with a thin-lipped sneer. "No," he found himself answering the boy's questions anyway, "I didn't make them all. Some are Aphismet's. Mine are over here, and his are over on that wall." He pointed as he spoke, to the wall behind himself and the wall on the other side, against the windows. "...Aphi and I paint together a lot. I learn from him."
He took up his palette and, in an effort to ignore the kid, began painting.

"I thought something like that." Lillian sat back in the chair as her arms folded over her chest. She knew Aphismet couldn't have raised Rivener like that, the young man was too good of a person. Although, to hear that Rivener could actually say, "I love you" and be sensibly sweet to her just sounded...weird.
She didn't want to, and she tried to distract herself but Lil couldn't fight off the blush that swarm over her. Aphismet's words just tickled her pink whether she liked it or not. "You're too sweet, Aphi. Thanks but you have no idea. Anyways, how have you been? Anything exciting going on in your life now?"
Since they were on the topic of how their lives were going, Lil was happy to ask Aphismet. Sad to say she didn't know a lot about him, and this was the best way to learn more.
He hadn't expected a warm Howdy Doody welcome from Rivener, atleast it was less scarey than what he had been planning for. Tyson slowly walked into the room as Rivener answered his questions. The other had given him a dark look, but his voice still did not rise to a threatening tone. So maybe it was safe to journey into the lion's den just a little bit further? All he needed to do was tread lightly and not make any sudden movements.
"What are you painting now?" Tyson squeaked after his feet planted themselves to the floor a few feet away from Rivener. He still didn't want to get too close to the raevan, but the urge to see his in-progress painting was too strong not to atleast get a glimpse of it. Rivener hadn't struck Tyson as the artistic type of person. Yet once he had looked over Rivener's paintings that were in their respectful area it was crystal clear that he loved creating art.

Aphismet shrugged softly. "Nothing much new. I have my job, and Isi, and all the pets running around in here. I have a Gwee now, which I think was given to me by the very same Alex you know. And Isi won a strange demonic sheep at the Summer Festival... And of course, there's Beaubeau. Then Rivener and Eiry... Well, as you can imagine, I'm busy most of the time making food, picking up after things, and keeping this place in running shape." He chuckled. "I wouldn't want it any other way."
For the sake of giving news, Aphi racked his brain for information. "ummm, Ah! Isi and I, along with the Raevans, went to Gambino not long ago this summer. We had a short vacation there, it was really nice! Um, also... Well, there's nothing much else, really." He smiled sheepishly.
Rivener frowned. He didn't want the kid coming over and smearing his paints, or ruining his concentration. "I'm painting a sunset, if you must know," he said snappily. "What the heck are you doing here anyway?" He suddenly gave up ignoring the kid, focusing instead on finding out why the annoying dynamo was in his house, his safe place. "Don't you have your own place to live?"

Lillian laughed and happily listened to him, "Our lives are pretty similar then. Especially when it concerns keeping our homes together and our families well. Oh yeah! Alex did mention something about that! Tyson talked about her too. Munchies I mean, that was what you named her right?" She questioned. It was a cute name to give a gwee, and it fit perfectly with Aphismet being a chef.
Tyson looked down at the floor once Rivener snapped at him. "Of course we have our own home. We just came over to show Aphi the soul bottle and essence of our raevan." He told him, daring to take a glance up at Rivener as he spoke. Too bad he hadn't brought the package up with him so he could show Riv. Although he didn't think he'd run into the raevan.
"Riv, I'm really sorry I made you mad last time. I didn't mean to." The child suddenly blurted. While he was in his presence, he might as well tell him what he'd been wanting to back at the Summer Festival. It was a simple apology, one that Tyson had strong doubts about. "I bet you won't forgive me, but I have been feeling really bad about it."

Aphismet laughed. "Yes, Munchies is her name. She must be upstairs somewhere with the other two. Ever since that demonsheep came, it's been one disaster after another, as he leads the other two into situations that... well. That's another story altogether."
A clear "ding!" resounded from the oven. Aphismet sat up, grinning, rubbing his hands. "Ahhh, the pasta is ready! Can you seek out your brother for me, and we'll eat? Oh, and please get Riv- AH! I forgot to tell him you two were coming!" Aph covered his mouth and grimaced. Oh, the Scorpion would surely not take this very well.
Rivener blinked. They were getting a Raevan? Oh, just great. He imagined a Raevan version of Tyson, and he almost gagged. He'd been about to speak when he was interrupted by the kid again.
Riv once again looked startled. So, the kid DID know that he'd been a pest. Smirking, Riv nodded. "Yeah you did make me mad. You talk way too much and you're annoying. You just don't care that some people don't like being yammered at constantly." He crossed his arms. "...You're not doing so bad this time. If you were like this all the time it wouldn't be so bad," he admitted reluctantly.

"Demonsheep?" Lil arched a brow before she recalled the awful little critter, "That thing! Ugh, I remember now..." She rubbed her forehead rcalling the menacing creature. How many complaints she did receive at the adoption booth from it again? There were just too many to recall right off the top of her head.
She had begun to make an attempt at counting the heads of the complainers, but her train of thought was shattered by the sudden sound. The "ding!" only took a second to bang against Lillian's eardrums before she was close to rocketing through the roof. She had pushed the chair out quickly and stood up with her hands firmly pressed against the table top. Unknown to the teen, she had painted herself into a picture of fear.
Briefly did she get her heartrate down to smile at Aphismet, happy to hear that the food was done before the color faded from her once-pink cheeks. If Aphismet hadn't told Rivener of their coming, then that meant...that meant Tyson could have run into him. Furthermore it meant that the raevan could have done something to him.
Without another thought Lillian hurried herself out of the kitchen, calling out to Aphismet, "Okay!" To hide her worry. Even though it was a frutile attempt.
Tyson wringed his hands into the denim material of his jeans. It was painful to listen to Rivener tear through his being with his venomous words. His final words made the child look up and keep eye contact with the scorpion being, "Really? But," Tyson looked torn as his mind chewed over what he wanted to say. "I need to stay happy. Dad said that everything will keep being okay if I am happy and that he and Mom will be happy no matter what if I am. If they become sad because I do, then something could happen to them. Their heart's might break."

Aphismet hadn't seen the girl's reaction, thankfully. Otherwise he would have begun to worry about what could possibly send a young woman into such a state simply by going "ding".
As he watched Lillian dash off in search of her brother, Aphismet wondered if he should follow. He felt terribly bad for having forgotten, and it obviously worried Lil very much... He'd have to apologize later. For the moment, he had to get the pasta out before it burned. Aph was sure Riv wouldn't have done anything wrong... right?
Rivener blinked at the kid. What was all this nonsense about happiness and parents? Sounded like a bunch of drivel adults fed to gullible kids. He'd been about to tell Tyson so when he saw the kid almost tearing up.
With a reluctant sigh and a roll of his eyes, Riv put down his paints. "Listen, kid, you've got it wrong. Happy doesn't have to mean Talking non-stop. it doesn't have to mean running around all the time. Can't you be happy just sitting there and like, looking at a flower? Doesn't stuff make you happy if it's calm, too? So what's the big deal? Just don't talk so much and be CALM, and then no one's gonna get hurt. You will still be happy and your parents will be fine." His voice, although he was trying to be comforting, wasn't particularly warm. It was mostly just resigned. He couldn't crush the boy's spirit so completely. He'd been having such a nice day, he couldn't ruin it by destroying Tyson.
"So cheer up, wouldja? Jeez."

Tyson looked up at Rivener with his mouth agape, nearly knocked off his feet from the shock. The raevan was comforting him? His voice may not have been like a women's as she cooed her crying child to sleep, but it still held sincerity.
The child wiped at his eyes to banish the tears away. So now Rivener wanted him to be happy? But not his usual happy? "Alright. Promise me that you won't get too mad at me and I will promise you that I won't be wild anymore." He extended his pinky finger to seal the deal even though he didn't know whether or not the raevan knew about pinky promises. The other did make a point, even though it was a tough one for him to succeed in. Tyson loved to talk, and he loved to run, but maybe he could adjust himself when he was around Rivener? That way the raevan could like him.
Lillian's frown deepened as she looked into another unoccupied room in her search for Tyson. The house wasn't THAT big, and besides if they had gone out the raevan and her brother couldn't have gotten far. Tyson knew not to go with strangers, although Lil highly doubted that her eccentric little brother thought of Rivener as such a thing. Bah, she needed to stop thinking of such negative thoughts!

Rivener stuck out his bottom lip thoughtfully as the kid extended his pinky. Hmmm, could he really promise not to be mad? ...Well, Tyson only said "not too mad". So Riv was still allowed to get a little ticked off if the kid got too rambunctious.
"Alright, fine," he said, lacing his pinky with the kid's, his long, clawed finger curling easily around the small chubby digit. He shook once. "I promise. So long as you behave not too loudly or annoyingly, I'll be nicer."
"Dinner's ready!" Aphismet yelled, his voice reverbrating throughout the house.

The wait for Rivener's agreement felt like it took forever. Even so, Tyson stood patiently infront of Rivener barely moving his limbs. Instead, his insides did all the nervous wiggling for him.
When the other's pinky, so different than his own, coiled around his, a broad smile lit up Tyson's face. The feel of relief as it washed over him was easiily describable as pure bliss. Aphi was right! If he acted calm and restricted around Rivener, maybe there was hope for a friendship between them!
"I promise to be on my best behaviour." Tyson told him, his voice sounding as honest as it could be.
"Come on you two!" Lillian called from the doorway after they had let go. Finally she had found the correct room. While she had been searching and keeping her feet from running off into a total sprint; Lil had opened almost every door that she'd come across. It wasn't a surprise that such an old looking house had a couple of various rooms to it.
The scene that she had walked in on, Lil realized once she had gone in, was entirely different than that she had prepared herself for. Tyson wasn't crying, nor did he look afraid. Rivener was being...nice to him. Surely she had walked into a different dimension on her way up the stairs. This raevan couldn't have been the guy who talked so rudely and gave them dirty looks at the past Valentines day festival. Nor could he have been the one Lil later learned at home who had screamed at Tyson during the recent summer festival.
Well, whatever, Lil didn't care. She just needed to grab Tyson and take him downstairs to enjoy Aphismet's well-prepared meal.
"Are you coming, Rivener?" Lil asked as Tyson walked over to stand by her.
"You should Riv! It smells good!" Tyson suggested before he was scooted down the hall by Lillian. "Maybe later, if you want, you could teach me how to paint?" The tyke quickly added before he was too far away down the hall for Rivener to hear him. It sounded like a good idea to the boy, a perfect way to start a friendship, and he even left in an opening for Riv to say no if he didn't want to.

Rivener sighed, wondering if he'd already made a big mistake. "I don't eat people food," he called after the two kids, but he followed anyway. He and Eiry normally did sit at the table and drink water, or sometimes even nibble on the food. One time Eiry "ate" one of the wooden salad bowls, turning it into an impromtu table centerpiece. Since it was the middle of the day, though, Riv doubted he'd have a snack of his own.
Aphismet set the table quickly, with the bread pre-sliced for everyone in the middle, the butter dish near it, and three bowls filled to the brim with crusted-topped pasta. He also poured everyone a large glass of milk, pausing for a second as the kids entered the room. "Um, are either of you lactose intolerant? Or, would you like something else to drink? We have water and apple juice." He motioned to the table. "Sit, sit!"
Rivener entered soon after, floating over to the seat without a bowl. He sat, leaning elbows on the table and propping his chin up in a fist. "Aphi, are the acrylics in the closet, in the paint room?" Riv asked. "The kids wants to paint so I'm gonna need them, since they're easier to wash off."
Aph blinked at Riv for a moment, amazed that the Scorpion would allow one of the children to paint with him. He must be in a good mood indeed! "Yes, they're in there, as well as a few large paper pads that he can use." Aph grinned. "Sounds like it's going to be fun!"
