Guardian's log (1) Monday 22nd August 2005 2pm
Ceres has met a few Mysterian owners in the last few days. She seems rather scared and insecure around them. I fear it's only because she's afraid to hurt them. ELF surprised her and she accidently turned one of ELF's fingers to stone. However, she managed to turn it to normal.
Although her powers are weak and not harmful, Ceres is afraid of herself. Even with Merlin things are not normal. She stopped playing with him and just contented herself petting him.
She met Malise, one of the two demons of the shop. Maybe she will be able to help Ceres to be more open. Actually, I'm thinking Malise and the others Mysterians could help Ceres to feel more comfortable with herself. I need to take her out more."Mommy! I'm hungry!!!" said Ceres in a distance. She was in the kicthen, near the bamboo plant. "I'm coming!" replied Inuki as she closed her journal. After putting the pencil on the cover, she walked out of her room and started to discuss dinner with a cheerful Ceres. The Gorgon seemed only happy around Inuki. Deep inside, the guardian felt it was a sad thing to only trust one person.

Guardian's log (2) Thursday 25th August 2005 9:17pm
Ceres does anything I do. I think I'm like a model for her. Considering I am the only living talking person she's around most of the time, this is a normal behavior. She's still afraid of herself but seeing Merlin as affectionated as ever toward her helped her to see things differently.
I surprised her talking with the bamboo two days ago. She likes talking to plants. She always has that mysterious smile with them. Yesterday, she watered the plants outside. It took her the day for the simple reason she talked to every single each of them. She is so cute.
Maybe she's like that with them because she knows she cannot hurt them like she hurt others in the past. Plants can't turn to stone. Well, not by staring at them. If she could only control it, she might be like this with others: caring and sweet instead of fear and shyness.A little hand reached for Inuki's shorts and thugged them. The guardian looked down and saw her little gorgon with flowers. She was smiling like never before. "I asked them if it was ok to pick them up to give them to you. They said it was ok. So please accept those flowers, mommy," Ceres said with a beaming smile. Inuki smiled back and took the flowers. "Thank you, sweetie. You're so nice." "Mommy... Are...are you mad at me? Because I turn people to stone? I...I can change! Really! I can! So don't hate me! Please, please don't hate me!" "Oh, Ceres..." Inuki put the flowers carefully over her journal and picked up Ceres, hugging her tightly. "I'm not mad at you. You just can't control it. Don't be so scared of me. You chose me remember? I'm not going to abandon you." "I'm not like the other kids. I have snake hair and they hurt people." "And you can change them back with your snake hair. They're not hurt and don't hate you for it. You're still young. If you stop to be so scared, you'll know how it works and accidents like that won't happen anymore." "Really?" said the little gorgon with a desperate tone. "I promise. Now, you want some ice cream to feel better?" Ceres smiled a bit and nodded, hugging Inuki still. Somehow, Inuki felt this little conversation helped Ceres. Now, she just needed a few friends.

The whip Inuki always loved to buy nice items. Her latest acquisition was an ice whip. She saw some of her friends with fire whips but she liked the ice more because it was reminding her of Shiva from the final fantasy series. When Ceres saw the whip, she wanted to try it out. Her guardian knew it couldn't be wise to let her play with it inside and alone. She agreed to lend her the whip if she goes play outside the house and if she was around. Ceres nodded and they both ran outside so Ceres could try it. Whips are not that dangerous. Usually. But this one had magical powers. For that reason, Inuki rather stay close to Ceres to make sure nothing bad will happen. Later that day, they both went to the House where other mysterians and guardians were. Ceres ran inside with the whip but didn't crack it. She kept it around her waist. She started to talk to everyone when she saw Malice, the boy demon of Meru. They talked a little then it was already time for the duo to go back home. "Mommy," said Ceres on the way home. "I'm happy." "Why are you happy?" asked Inuki. "Because I can be with other kids without being scared. I know that whatever might happen, you will always be with me." Inuki smiled and took Ceres in her arms. "As long as you keep that in mind and see the good side of life, everything will be fine, Ceres."

Ceres' letters (1) Since her mistress has been very occupied lately and didn't see her much, Ceres decided to write letter to keep her in touch with what was going on in her life. Ceres never like to write but with Merlin and her friend the bamboo plant, she found the courage to take a pen and a paper to write. Dear mom,
I hope you are not working too hard at your job. Well since you are not home, I guess you are working hard after all.
I have decided to write down a letter for you because I miss you. We don't spend as much time now that you are very busy. But I know that you care about me because you always come talk to me before going away or before I go to sleep. I like the little breakfast you make for me every morning: those "Mini Wheats" are my favorite in ALL the ENTIRE world.
Do you think tonight, we can go play outside with the ice whip? Or we can play hide and seek again? You always find me but today Merlin shown me a new spot so I'm not going to lose this time!
Tomorrow I want to see my friends at the mysterian house. Can I go? I'll bring Merlin along. He'll protect me from the bad persons I'm sure.
I have to go now. Merlin keeps whining. I think he wants to play with me again. I love you a lot mommy!

Advent children (spoiler free of course) Finally, I have it. Now nothing can stop me. thought Inuki as she held a cd in her hands. The long wait has come to an end."Mommy, what's this?" asked Ceres with great curiosity. Inuki jumped. For a second, she completly forgot about Ceres' presence. "This, my dear, is a movie." Ceres' eyes opened wide. She loved movies. "What kind of movie is it?" she asked. "It's a fantasy movie. You will like it a lot," Inuki told her with a smile. Happily, Ceres hurried to the couch and took the best place. The reason why she loved movies was because she knew nothing could disturb them. It was their private moment. Inuki put the cd in the machine and sat next to Ceres. But before starting the movie, she looked at her little gorgon and grinned. "We're missing something." Ceres smiled and jumped on the couch. "POPCORN!" "That's right. You remember what to do?" Ceres nodded and hurried in the kitchen. She grabbed a popcorn bag and put it in the microwave. Few minutes later, both girls were on the couch with a fuming popcorn bowl. With a grin, Inuki pressed the play button and they both watched their movie. A hour and forty minutes later, Inuki was crying and Ceres was awe by the incredible CG art. "I want to see it again!" she said to Inuki. But when she saw her with tears rolling down her cheeks, she began to worried. "What's wrong mommy?" "Oh I'm sorry." Inuki wipped her tears away and smiled. "Sometimes, when it's too beautiful, I cry." She giggled but Ceres didn't quite understand. "Too beautiful that you have to cry?" "Well... How did you like the last scene?" the guardian asked. Ceres made a cute thinking face. "Hmmm... I think it was sad but happy at the same time." Inuki nodded. "Sometimes when such combination are well made, it brings tears to your eyes. You understand?" Ceres started to get it but she wasn't sure. Still, she nodded. She was too distracted by the images to actually understand what was actually going on. But she liked the movie still. "Can we watch it again?" she asked again. Inuki smiled. "Of course." She patted the place next to her. Ceres crawled to the place and rewatch the movie again.

The magic book Inuki could barely believed it: her tiny gorgon was already a beautiful teenager. Ceres has been a bit jealous of the previous mysterian that grew up before her but now, she really had nothing to be jealous about. Back home, with the rest of the owners and mysterian kids, Inuki often took out her magic book that she kept hidden away for some unknown reason. Ceres quickly noticed that her guardian wasn't what we could call a "skilled" magician. She mostly messed up things. So, for the safety of those around her, Ceres decided it was time to study that strange book. The symbol of protection, a star inside a circle, was carved on the cover. The gorgone took it while her guardian was out and she went outside to read it under a tree. The book wasn't filled with spells of demonic magic. It was a mix of spells of black and white magic of different levels. Very few of them were potions which made Ceres feel better because she knew she would never figure out where to find the ingredients. She flipped the pages calmly, feeling the magic floating out of the book. It wasn't strange to her. Actually, she felt as if she was part of the book somehow. From the house, Inuki saw Ceres studying the book. She smiled. She knew her child well enough to know she wouldn't try anything dangerous. Unlike her. Being a magical creature herself, the book fit her perfectly. After a few minutes, Inuki turned around and prepared dinner for both of them.

A small story about Inuki and her magic book "Mother, why did you keep that book hidden?" suddenly asked Ceres out of the blue one morning. Inuki was so surprised she spat the juice she was drinking. "Er...Well... You see your mother is kind...well a magician but...hmm..." "Don't be embarassed mother. Unless...you think I'm not intelligent enough to understand why?" Ceres' eyes were filled with tears, fearing the answer of her guardian. Inuki went to her immediately and hugged her. "Oh sweety... You are very brilliant. It's just embarassing mommy to tell you the truth." She dried Ceres' tears and smiled to her. "Years ago, I was with good friends of mine. I wanted to play a little trick on them. Just for fun. The magic book you were reading has been passed down to my family for generations. I thought I could handle it. However things went crazy. Since then, my friends tried to destroy that book to prevent me to do magic." Ceres blinked. None of the spells in the book were that dangerous. At least, not in the first half of what she read so far. She shyly asked "So...does that mean I'm prohibited to use magic too?" Inuki shook her head. Ceres was a magical creature herself. Denying her the right to explore her roots, even if the book wasn't directly linked to her, would mean to refuse her for who she was. The guardian told her child to read the book as much as she wants but to not try anything without telling her. Ceres nodded, happy to see she was allowed to continue her passionate reading.

After the long absence... Ceres was bored. She read the magic book countless times but she was still unhappy. There was now an angel in the mysterian house and Inuki seemed to be very fond on it. I can't blame her for prefering Kohaku to me. She's so pretty and...I'm just a horrible gorgone that transform people into stone. She sniffled, fighting back her tears. Every time, she thought about the darkest possibilities and it made her sad. The fact that Inuki has been very busy running around and preparing their moving without dropping her once in a while in the mysterian house made her think her guardian was ashamed of her. Just when she brushed away her tears, Inuki came back and went to her. "Oh Ceres! Now that we are finally home, we can visit our friends again in the mysterian house! You must miss them." But Inuki blinked at the sad expression Ceres gave her. "What's the matter sweety?" "Why do you prefer Kohaku to me? Why are you hiding me from everyone?" Inuki sat next to Ceres and took her hands. "Ceres, I was never ashamed of you if this is what you are thinking. Kohaku is a beautiful angel and I have to admit that I have a soft spot for angels. But you know...when you were born, I was very happy to have you. You were so cute. And when you grew up, everyone was astonished by your beauty." "I'm...beautiful?" "Of course you are," Inuki said as she dried Ceres's tears with her sleeve. "Now keep those dark thougts out of your pretty head. We are going to meet our friends again. I think they would prefer to see a cheerful Ceres than a mourning one." Ceres smiled at her guardian and hugged her tigthly. Inuki seemed to always understand her no matter what. "Yes. Let's go meet them," she finally told her guardian.

The snakes One a calm sunday evening, Inuki was sitting next to a window, watching snowflakes falling to the ground. Ceres was slowly starting to try some spells in the magic book and unlike her guardian, she succeed most of them. Merlin was still tensed for the reason that Inuki couldn't understand until she saw Ceres for their sunday movie. Until now, Ceres's snakes were pretty much calm and barely moving most of the time. There was, of course, the occasinal hissing with red eyes to stone random people that frighten Ceres or she didn't like but besides that, they were not very active. But now, Inuki saw franatic snakes moving everywhere, hissing and sticking out their tongues everywhere. Merlin hide behind the couch, growling and hissing as well. "What's going on here?" she asked Ceres. "I...hmmm... I don't know," the gorgone answered. She poked one of her snakes and it enrolled itself around her finger with a peaceful look on its face. "That's odd. They were barely moving before," said Inuki. She tried to poke the snake too but it almost bit her finger. "And harmless too." "I'm sorry... I'm causing you all this trouble..." "No no no, dear. Let us not go on that ground. I didn't get the gorgone manual when I had you but I'm sure it's nothing we can't figure it out." At those words, Inuki understood. Ceres was growing up and just like any teenager, some changes would occur until she's an adult. The snakes could be a sign of maturity but Ceres and her will need to figure out how to settle them down and control them so they won't hurt anybody. "Are we still watching our movie?" Ceres asked shyly. She didn't want to be a bother and since her snakes were wild, she was scared to hurt her guardian. She didn't even know if they were poisonnous and their hissing was threatening to everybody but her. "Of course we are. But...hmmm...keep your distance until the snakes settle down. I want to keep my face whole." She gave Ceres a wink and pat a place next to her but in a safe distance of the snakes. Ceres gave her a small smile, knowing that the distance was the limit for the snakes to not hurt Inuki and close enough to not feel rejected.

The wedding "Ceres! Come here dear!" The young gorgon sneaked out of her room and went to her guardian. "What is it mother?" Inuki shown her the invitation card. They were both invited to Sian's and Jan Jan's wedding. The card was made of simple white paper with a beautiful rose drawn on it. Simple but Inuki knew this wouldn't be a simple wedding. Ceres read the card and blinked. "A wedding? But...it's this afternoon." "Yes. Is that a problem?" "Well... We're going to be late." Ceres pointed the clock. It was 1pm. The wedding was at 3pm. They had two hours to find beautiful dresses, put some make-up and arrive. Which was technically impossible for two women. Inuki gasped, grabbed Ceres's hand and ran to Moira's shop in Durem. The good thing about Durem, you could find beautiful clothing and a hairdresser. The bad thing was how much all this would cost. But desperate measures meant desperate solutions. Things didn't went very well. Inuki couldn't make up her mind between two skirts while Ceres didn't feel pretty in anything. In the salon, Ceres's snakes almost bite off the fingers of the hairdresser and Inuki had to explain gorgon's ways to grow to maturity. After a hour, the snakes went to sleep and the lady could finally work on Ceres's hair. Finally, they ran back to the reception's room and were warmly welcomed by Sian, one hour after the party began. I will have to ask them to send me their invitation a little bit earlier next time. thought Inuki as she drank some alcohol. Ceres was with Malise so she knew nothing too bad would happen to her...hopefully.

The new companion The party lasted the whole weekend till the little hours of the morning. Inuki and Ceres slept until late in the afternoon, enjoying a relaxing day at their house. But a little surprise disturbed what was supposed to be their pyjama day. Merlin disappeared. Ceres, who was now very found on her feline friend, was worried sick and tears were rolling down her cheeks at the thought he ran away from her or was killed by a car. Inuki tried to calm her down but teenagers are hard to resonate with. "He surely ran away when I opened the door this morning," Ceres said through her tears. "It's my fault. I should have been more careful!" "Merlin isn't the type to run away. He must be deeply sleeping somewhere," Inuki told her. "No. I'm sure he ran away and he must be dead, killed by some drunk driver! Or worst!" At those words, both girls saw a snake with fairy wings flying low with a hunting Merlin running after it. The cat managed to bite the snake's tail. The later hissed at the cat and tried to fly higher but with no success. It finally started to attack the cat, trying to squeeze him with its body. "STOP IT BOTH OF YOU!" yelled Ceres in fear. Both animals stopped, staring at her with surprise. They weren't the only ones. Inuki was also surprised by her gorgone's sudden yell. Ceres always been a calm and quiet girl. Shy and reserved too. To hear her yell like that was quite stunning. Inuki finally spoke as she was separating the cat and the snake. "What's that thing?" She looked at Ceres. "Did one of your snakes ran away of your head?" Ceres quickly reaches for her snaky hair and felt every single snake. "No. They are all there." "Then was is this?" asked Inuki for the second time, giving an odd look to the snake. Neither of them knew what is was but the snake managed to free itself from Inuki's grasp to fly up to Ceres and rolled itself around her neck gently. The guardian blinked. "That's odd... It's like it always belonged there." Ceres felt the snake and pet it slowly. "You're right," the gorgone said. "Well... Now you have two friends to play when I'm not around. Just make sure they won't kill each other." "They won't mother," Ceres answered with a smile.

A bigger family
Ceres has been very busy keeping the peace between her cat friend and her snake guardian. Every day, she lived in fear to see them fight to the death but in time, the two of them stopped fighting and kept ignoring one another.
One morning, she realized Inuki was missing. Ceres feared she was kidnapped or worst, killed. The poor gorgone didn't know what to do when she was her adoptive mother fell out of the mirror in the bathroom. She rushed toward Inuki.
"Mother!" she cried in horror. "What happened? Where have you been? I was so worried. I thought something horrible happened to you!" She searched her mother's eyes when she caught a glimpse of a small blue light in her hand. She looked down and saw an egg.
Inuki smiled to her. "Someone else from your world, dear," she told her gorgone. "It called for help. Just like you did."
"It did...?"
The girl nodded. "He was in an abandonned jeweled city. I think he may be the last of his kind. I don't really know... I couldn't find anyone else besides him."
Ceres smiled and hugged her mother. "I know I always thought about the worst scenario...but this is far much better than I could imagine even if I was a positive person."
Inuki hugged her back then her eyes opened suddenly at the realisation that she was, once again, late. She jumped on her feet and gave the egg to a surprised Ceres.
"I'm late! Not again!!! Dammit!!!!" She ran in her bedroom to dress up quickly and rushed to the kitchen to eat her half-cold toast.
"Mother..."
"Take care of your brother!"
"Brother?"
"His name is Elazul! Make sure your snake friend doesn't eat him! Oh! And try to find a name for your guardian. We can't keep calling him 'snake guardian'!"
"But..."
"See you later! Be good!" And on this, Inuki was gone, leaving behind her Ceres who blinked at the closed front door.
"But how do I take care of an egg?" she asked to Merlin and the flying snake. Neither of them could answer her.

Babysitting Elazul the egg (1)
With Inuki busy with lots of real life things such as a new kitty, a boring job, searching for a good job and doing stuff around our new home, Ceres was often given the task of babysitting Elazul the egg.
She kept calling him "Elazul the egg" because it wasn't logic from her point of view to name an egg. She knew Inuki gave her her name after she came out of her egg. So why this one had a name already?
Her guardian never could answered her correctly between two important tasks but Ceres felt that Inuki wanted her to figure it out by herself. "The egg must be special if she managed to give him a name when she doesn't know what's inside," she thought.
One day, while Inuki was working, Ceres left the egg by the window while getting some food for Merlin and Freya, the new kitten. Sekmet, her snake guardian, was nowhere to be found. She got worried a bit because he was often missing like this before the cats's feeding time.
The drama happened when she got back to where she left Elazul the egg.
She saw with horror Sekmet trying to swallow the mysterian egg. He was half done when she spotted him and screamed at him to stop. Like a good guardian, the snake withdrew from the egg but with a disappointed look in his eyes.
Ceres rushed to the egg and took a good look at it. Beside the snake's saliva, the egg was fine. Still panting from the strong emotion she felt, she turned to Sekmet.
"Never," she told him with angry eyes. "Don't you ever try to eat my brother again. We might not be like by blood but he is still my brother!"
Sekmet hissed before answering: "I thought you would be happy to not have him around anymore. That way, you wouldn't be worried about Inuki prefering him and abandonning you."
"Mother would never abandon me," answered Ceres with a suprising confidence. "She loves me as much as Elazul. And she is giving him to my care because she wants me to feel as I have some part to play in his growth."
Sekmet smiled. "I was worried you didn't realize it. But I underestimated you, Ceres. My apologies."
All this time, the egg never moved. When she got back from work, Inuki thanked warmly Ceres for her babysitting and gave her the evening off. The gorgone happily went outside with Sekmet to try some magic spells while Inuki was left alone with the egg. The deep blue symbol of the shell started to glow.
"That mysterious mark on your shell only glows when we're alone. I do hope that you will do the same thing around your sister. She is doing her very best just for you."
The egg sligtly moved back and forward twice before going back to its immobilize status.

Babysitting Elazul the egg (2)
Ceres slowly grew to like babysitting Elazul the egg. And she started to like being alone to do her things without having Inuki around. However, she was very glad to see her guardian back home safely after a long day at work. Even if her teenager side was happy of this new independance, she still feared that something might happen to Inuki and she would be all alone.
Anyone would say "How can you take care of an egg?" Ceres would answer "You take it everywhere with you and you share with it daily events."
So this is what Ceres would do with Elazul the egg: taking it outside while reading him the spells she was learning or watching tv and sharing her thoughts with it. At the end of the day, she would tell Inuki was she did and they both discussed about it.
One day, Ceres left Elazul the egg on the couch to get something to drink. Freya and Merlin were playing together, running everywhere in the house. She never knew how it happened but it happened. She came back in the living room and saw the egg fall from the couch. From that point, everything went into slow motion.
The egg slowly fell toward the ground after Freya somehow pushed it away. Ceres hurried to it but tripped over the carpet and fell down. Just when the egg was about to hit the ground, two of her snakehair caught it.
Ceres stared at it, still lying on her belly and she saw the strange sign on the egg glow...

The dream Ceres jumped in Inuki's arms the second she came home and told her everything about the accident and Elazul's symbol. She thought he was hurt inside the egg and might die if nothing was done but Inuki smiled and pat her head. "No, he's ok," she told her. "He expressed his feelings through his symbol. I think he was grateful that you saved him." Ceres blinked and tilted her head on the side with an odd look. "How come you know him so well already? He's an egg, mother. You don't know anything about him." "I think it's time for you to know why. I have time and we can discuss it. Take a seat." They went into the living room and sat on the couch. Inuki kept Elazul the egg on her lap, her hands around it. Ceres couldn't help it but feel a bit jealous of Inuki's attention toward the egg. "Remember the day I came back with him? In truth, I have been in contact with him for a long time. Through my dreams." "Dreams?" Inuki nodded. "His kind has been hunted for their magical heart. He sensed he was in danger and defenless since he was trapped in this egg. So he used his heart to search for someone to find him and protect him. He didn't really like that option since he has the heart of a warrior and protector but he didn't have a choice." Ceres sighed. "So you have a special connection with him..." "Yes but you are still my precious Ceres," Inuki said with a smile. "You were my first mysterian and no special connection can break that. It makes you special. And how many people have a wonderful Gorgone has their daughter huh?" At those words, Ceres smiled and nodded again. She sensed no lies in what Inuki said and her insecurities and jealousy vanished away. "He will need us both you know," continued Inuki. "You have become good with the magic book. When he'll get out of his egg, I want you to help him find out who is his kind exactly. Their history, their lives and their customs." "But...that means that..." "Yes. You will journey with him back to your dying land to find out about his past. He needs to know where he comes from and where he's going. Being the last isn't easy. But don't worry. I'll come with you." "What about your work? And your life here? You can't possibly abandon all that!" Inuki grinned. "Nope but I surely can arrange our trips back there during my weekends." Ceres never was the adventurer type. But if it meant helping her brother to find out who he is then she will do it. "I'll start studying my magic."
