"I'm Don, Don Piano." He said with a charismatic smile taking Marshalls hand and shaking it cheerfully. "Nice to meet you too."
Tanner nodded at Kale awaiting paper or to be led to a new spot where they would color. By now Tanners face, chin, chest and left hand had ice cream dribbled over him as he was still making his way through the cone. The boy was messy, but he was sure not to drip anywhere other than on himself.

"Soo thats your kid, huh?" Marshall asked, watching Kale get up on his seat and pointing to the chair across from him, probably telling Tanner to sit there. He couldn't help but giggle at the sight of Tanner's inability to eat an ice-cream cone. It was, in all respects, adorable.
"You can sit there, okay?" Kale said to tanner, not paying attention to the adults as he pointed to the chair adjacent.

"Yup, that's my little dude." Don said with a smile as he also watched the kids play, Tanner obviously still rather clueless to his surroundings. "Kids are great aren't they?"
Tanner nodded at Kale as he plopped down onto the chair sending some more ice cream dribling down his cone. He watched Kale and waited to see what he was going to do.

"Yep, they sure are." Marshall said in agreement, watching Kale draw what looked like some sort of cat...Or was it a pony? Maybe a cow? Eh, the kid loved to color he never said any thing about being good at it! "So, you two live around here?" Marshall asked, using his usual question for small-talk as usual.
"I'm drawin' a ducky. What are you drawin'?" Kale asked, looking over at Tanner's picture.

"Kinda, we live down in Barton, just thought a trip to the beach would be fun today." Don said finishing off his ice cream and wiping his hand on his damp swim drunks.
"A twee." Tanner said doodling a childish palm tree with his free hand.

"Ohhhh...Wow! That looks awesome!" Kale said, overly enthusiastic and borrowing the language of the local surfers he had heard outside. His enthusiasm, while a bit over-the-top, wasnt' forced: He really did find Tanner's picture of a palm-tree (while childish looking) really aesthetically pleasing.
"Oh, Barton, huh? Yeah, me and Kale drove down their a couple of days ago for the toy-store. Biiig mistake. Now every toy he wants costs more than the house we live in!" Marshall said with a small chuckle, looking up at the clock: Damn! Still two hours left in his shift.

Tanner looked over to Kale, "Thanks, I wike youws too." He said as he caught sight of Kale's duck.
"Yeah, things can be pretty expensive there." Don said with a laugh. "Tanner really doesn't ask me for much. He just looks at something for a while but doesn't want to ask for it, so I just buy it for him anyhow." He said with another laugh.

"Ya wanna trade?" Kale asked Tanner as he finished up his blue duckie.
"Heh heh. Yer kid's got it good then. I feel kinda bad, not being able to buy Kale every thing he wants." Marshall admitted, his gaze moving over to the door. While the crowd of girls were still there with giant hearts in their eyes, none of them seemed to have any interest in actually entering. How annoying!

"Ok." Tanner said as he slid the slightly sticky paper over to Kale.
"Well I guess I'm kind lucky though, Tanner doesn't usually tend to like much of the big expensive electronic gadget toys." He said actually rather grateful for that. "He is happy with his balls, blocks and crayons." Don said with a laugh as he watched the kids switch pictures.

"Cool!" Kale said, happily taking the sticky tree picture and handing over his silly looking blue duck. He looked over the cartoon-y picture of a palm tree. And in his eyes? It was awesome looking.
"Yer a luckier man than me, Don. Kale is obsessed with water guns, surf boards, and video games. Perfectly normal I guess but still pretty expensive." Marshall sighed.

Tanner took hold of the strange blue duck and looked it over scrutinizingly. He smiled at the childish drawing. It was the first thing he had gotten from someone other than Don.
"Yeah, I guess I am pretty lucky. Tanner is such a great kid, he really is a blessing." Don said with a grin as he watched the two kids exchange drawings. "Looks like they're making fast freinds." He said with a laugh.

Huh. Guess every one thinks highly of their kid. Marshall thought. It was true for himself as well: Despite the fact he was just complaining about Kale's rather expensive (but still completely normal) taste, he always thought of Kale to be an extremely bright, cute, social, amazing little kid. "Heh heh, guess your right." Marshall chuckled, watching the two exchange pictures.
"Hey, Dad!" Kale asked from his seat, "Could we hang up Tanner's picture? Pleeezzee?" he asked Marshall, holding up the sticky picture of a palm tree proudly.
"Sure, when we get home." Marshall said with a broad smile.

Tanner was still clinging onto Kales picture of a duck and finishing his ice cream in the other hand. He was probably thinking something along the same lines as Kale, however he wasn't nearly as boisterous so he would probably wait until they got home to ask Don to put it on the fridge.
"Hey, I hate to be a bother, but you don't happen to have some wet wipes, or wet paper towels do ya?" Don asked seeing that Tanner was done with his ice cream and was in need of being tidied up.

"Huh? Oh, sure, lemme go check in the back. I think its time to wake up Old Geezer any way." Marshall said, spinning around and heading into the back of the store. Sure enough, a rather crotchety old man was snoring lounging in a chair with his feet propped up.
"Wet naps, wet naps...Hmmm...Ah, here they are." Marshall said, finding what was left from a birthday party several days ago. As he headed out towards the front, Marshall smacked the old man upside the head, causing him to bolt awake and exclaim "GOD DAMN RED COMMUNIST!!!"
Meanwhile, Kale was admiring his new received picture, positively beaming. Still, as to not seem rude to his new best friend, he decided to talk to Tanner a bit more. "So, didja like swimming? I love swimming!" the small blue rodent exclaimed, in his own weird way trying to start a conversation.

"Thanks man." Don called after Marshal as he headed into the back of the store.
Tanner nodded at Kale, "It was fun." He said remembering the funny little fish in the water and the waves that knocked him down often. It was his frist time at the beach so it was pretty fascinating to him, a big step up from the bath tub.
