Dark red eyes watched as the unicorn and Helaku conversed. "He's been having troubles talking. I believe he might have injured his ribs to a certain extent." The mare did not wish to intrude too much for this was almost a touch and go situation. Still, she did not want Helaku to talk too much in his current condition. Her body shivered nervously on occassion, waiting and worrying about what the outcome might be.

Tear frowned as the tip of her tail flicked back and forth in a fluid motion. Bones were tricky to heal, and she wasn't sure just how well she could manage it. There was a high probability that this stallion would still have to move carefully for a while, lest he damage the fragile rejoining of the ribs as they finished healing. She still needed to try, though. And before her control started to crumble. "I'll do my best, but...it would be a wise thing to be careful for a while, just to be sure." Lowering her head, she quickly started to apply her horn to where it was needed. Helaku's shoulder bore only a scar surrounded by blood-matted hair by the time she finished, and he was breathing easier. "There..." With that soft utterance, she was gone, through the trees. She knew her job was done, and she needed to get away.

After a soft sigh of relief, Helaku raised a brow at the unicorn's sudden departure. "Busy night for healing or...something?" There was only a slight pause in his speaking, as though he were testing the bounds of his healing. "I would have...thanked her. You too...deserve thanks." These pauses had nothing to do with physical injury. He was still wary and resentful of females, but Amara seemed at least a little different. It was only right to thank one who had healed you, in the unicorn's case.

A distant look crossed the mare's face as she watched the unicorn depart. Listening to Helaku's words, she lightly shoke her head. "I get the feeling that she carries a deep burden. Something that we probably wouldn't understand..." Amara approached Helaku just close enough to see the work the unicorn had done. "Whoever she was she, she was certainly a wonderful healer. I'm sure you'll have the chance to thank her someday." Her eyes showed that of relief and the mare let out a soft sigh. "I don't derserve much thanks. More importantly, how do you feel now?"

"Be that as it may, you do deserve thanks. It would have been...difficult for me to find any sort of help myself. I might have ended up limping like some old warhorse," he said in a bit of a joking tone. "I feel better...though I don't intend on meeting any more trees with my side anytime soon." His face darkened. "Or that abomination, though if I do...I'll do what I must. You would have been horrified at the sight of him...scarred, filthy, reeking, vicious. He practically had his own cloud of flies."

A quiet chuckle escaped the mare's mouth. "Yes. Lets us do be careful when it comes to the trees." A sudden silence came over the mare as the stallion spoke of the terrible creature that he had happen to cross paths with in the utmost unfortunate circumstances. The mare's normal dark eyes turned darker as a terrible memory crept into her mind. The smell of blood... she could still hear the screaming. "A warhorse..." She thought to herself. Cries of the fallen as she and many others ran and faced the enemy... "Who was the warhorse...?" Trapped in the vortex of memories, Amara stood stiff, oblivious to the outside world.

Helaku's smile at Amara's first reply quickly turned to a concerned frown. The mare looked as though she were struggling with some inner demon, her eyes a dark dark red. Had her eyes always been so dark? He wished he had paid closer attention before. He was almost reluctant to speak, afraid to jerk her out of this...trance? But whatever 'other' world her mind was in right now, it didn't seem like a good one for her. That made up his mind. "Amara? Are you...okay?"

A shadow... a shape seemed to materialize from admist everything that surrounded the mare. The creature seemed like a horse but parts of him (or it) seemed ghostly, as if only a part of him existed. The creature stood before Amara's eyes and spoke few words, but those words sent her back into reality.

"Listen young one. He calls for you. Go! GO! Amar-"

"-a? Are you... okay?"

Color returned to the mare's eyes as she looked around startled. She snorted slightly and took a pose of a warrior as if worried something was coming to get her. But her posture slowly relaxed as Amara finally relaized it was Helaku who spoke to her. "Helaku... I..." A silence brushed between them as the mare tried to untangle many complex thoughts. "I'm fine. Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you. Bad memories I guess..."

Memories...something Helaku could understand all too well. He had plenty, as many bad as good. Cautiously, he rose to his feet, and even more cautiously, he nudged Amara's shoulder. "I understand," was all he said.

Amara watched and felt as Helaku tried to comfort her. "Ah... thanks..." Amara bowed her head a little in acknowledgement, not wanting to get the stallion in a more uncomfortable position. "So... think you're well enough to walk out of here?" A small smile crept bac onto the mare's face.

His caution was more for Amara than himself in that moment, though at her own awkwardness, he suddenly felt more self-conscious. Why had he done that? You should have learned your lesson by now, a small voice whispered in the back of his mind. You might be happy for a short while, but she will harm you again. She can't help it. He squashed that voice back a bit, reminding himself of his argument with Bella. She'd been right...stallions were just as likely to hurt. But still... He stood there a moment, skin twitching a little with indecision.

Wrapped up in his own private debate, he forgot to answer Amara's question.

A slightly worried look crossed over the mare's face as she watched Helaku be lost in his own little world. "Ummmm... Helaku?" Amara approached the stallion a bit, just close enough to hopefully get his attention. "Are you all right? Nothing hurts right?" She was worried that Helaku was facing some after-healing complications. It happened on occasion as she'd seen with Cocheta's patients.

Golden eyes held a faraway look as Helaku was held in his reverie. Words spilled from his mouth, in a plaintive and hollow tone. "I've tried so hard...is it even worth it anymore? Am I just a jaded old stallion now? I just don't know anymore..." At Amara's words he was jerked into the here and now, not knowing that he had spoken his thoughts aloud. "I'm okay. I was...thinking."

Amara looked at Helaku quietly. Her eyes showed that of sympathy and understanding. She began to speak softly and sincerely to Helaku, hope to ease his thoughts, if just by a little. "We all try... to wish for the best outcome... and hope that it comes true. But sometimes things happen. And we can't have what we wish for. Even so, we should always try, if not for the previous reason then for another reason. There is no such thing as a truly being alone. If something were to happen to someone, then there is always someone who will worry about them, even if they are not by their side."

Taking a small breather, Amara shook her head a little and tilted her head just slightly while looking at Helaku. "And, I don't think you're an 'old jaded stallion'. I think you're a kind stallion who understands the meaning of being hurt and can one day become stronger because of it. And I think you're rather handsome too!" The mare laughed at the last bit in a playful manner.

Helaku sighed a little and nodded slight agreement...until Amara's last comment. Then a comically explosive snort of surprise burst forth as the grey stallion just managed to keep his jaw from dropping. Did she...just say... He froze as his mind raced, scrambling for something, anything to say. It felt like so long since he'd ever faced such a situation, he'd practically forgotten how to react! "I...I...thank you...but you deserve better than me." ...Oh great. Way to go, geezer.

Amara couldn't help but laugh. It had been a long time since she felt this relaxed and carefree despite what happened earlier. "I guess its been a while since someone gave you a compliment like that huh?" She couldn't contain her chuckles very well at this point. "However, I am rather serious about the whole speech thing. And especially that last part. You are rather handsome." There was a smile in the mare's dark red eyes. "You deserve as much praise as anyone else and don't forget that."
