Serenity nodded excitedly. "Don't worry about a bucket, I'm sure we can do fine without one," she reassured Reno, though to tell the truth she had no idea whether or not they would. After all, she didn't even know what the bucket was for.
Instead of standing again to move into the slightly deeper water with Reno, she just put her hands down into the water and crawled along on her hands and knees. After all, waist deep on Reno was still very shallow for her, since she was a stage ahead of him. Still, she didn't mind - to be honest, she didn't really want to go out into the very deep water, not without someone big watching over her. She'd heard all too many times about how her brother had needed saving from drowning, and he was even able to breathe underwater sometimes!
She noticed suddenly that it seemed as though Reno kept looking towards the shore, and her brow furrowed slightly with curiosity. "What do you keep looking at?" she asked him softly, her own eyes flickering briefly to the beach.

Reno smiled as she reassured him of the things to come. They would do better with a bucket, but they didn't really, necessarily need one. Reno looked back at the shore some more, but looking at EJ the whole time, who was sound asleep on the shore.
He noticed how Serenity didn't really want to go out any further. He was curious, but dropped it the moment she asked him what he was looking at. "Well, I am...ummm...looking...at my dad. See, I want to make sure he's watching me. You know, dads psh. They always want to make sure their kids are safe...heh." he said. Though he didn't really want EJ looking at him. Reno was having fun without his dad there to say something like, "Oh! Don't go out to far now!" or "Hey! Watch it! You're going to deep!" But with EJ being asleep, he had all the freedom in the world! Could he handle it? Maybe not as well as he thought, but maybe just enough to make him realize that sometimes he needed his father.

Serenity was somewhat surprised, and she couldn't help but show it. "Dad?" she asked, her eyes growing brighter. "You have a father? Really?"
She knew Lore would one day be her father, but for now he was just Mama's special friend. Suitor, some called him.
She looked over towards the beach to see if she could also see Reno's father, though she knew she had no idea what he looked like, and therefore wouldn't know when she saw him ... if she did. Still, she was curious to know if all fathers were the same.
"Can you show him to me?" she asked hesitantly, wanting to know what he looked like but not wanting to have to meet him. She didn't like meeting new people for the first time ... though, as this was proving, it was fun sometimes.

Reno smiled and blushed a bit when she said the word 'dad'. It was as if she had never heard of one. But he didn't want to be a nuisance. So he just did as she said. He showed him, well, pointed him out. He pointed to a man lying on the ground, all you could see from Reno's view was EJ's shoes, pants, chains, and his scarf. He pointed in that direction and said, "That's him. Over there. With the black shoes, pants, and jacket. Also, that scarf of his, he never takes it off haha." He was getting used to this new second that he had met. It seemed rather fun getting to know someone else.
Reno's red hair was getting in the way again. He pulled it back a bit and for a second he may be recognized as a woman. He hated that. Whenever someone came up and saw him and his hair was down and not done right, he could very well be mistaken for a girl. He just smirked at anyone who thought that and went on with his life, secretly hating himself for having long red hair.

Serenity peered in the direction Reno was pointing, and after a moment's searching she thought she saw the man he was talking about. She nodded. "I see him ... is he sleeping?" she asked curiously. She glanced down at Reno just in time to see him pull his hair back, and smiled. She liked his hair. It was a really neat colour, one she had never seen before, despite the people she had seen (but not met, being far too shy), and its length reminded her of Lore's. And Ulrich's. And her Neko's. And ... most of her uncles'.
A lot of the grownup males she knew, actually.
She absently tucked her own long brown hair behind her ears, getting it wet without realizing it, then pointed at Reno's father. "Why's he wearing chains?" she asked curiously.

Reno smiled and blushed. "Well, yes, I believe he is sleeping...I don't really want to wake him up. But if you want to meet him?" he said with flushed red cheeks and a grin. Then he noticed her hair. It was long and brown. The color was the same as EJ's and well, he really liked that color.
When she asked about EJ's chains, he didn't know how to respond. "Well, I don't really know. He's just always worn them. I know that he thinks it looks good. And he has his keys on one set and his wallet on the other. So I guess he just uses them so that he doesn't lose them?" he said. Reno truly didn't know how to respond to that question to be honest. He hadn't really ever asked EJ about them. All he knew is what he had told her.

Serenity blushed deeply when Reno asked if she wanted to meet his father, and shook her head back and forth negatively. "Maybe ... another time," she murmured softly, staring down at the water, unable to bring herself to meet Reno's gaze.
She knew her shyness was something that she needed to get over, but she couldn't help it. She was terrified of meeting new people.
"Why don't you show me how to make a sand castle?" she suggested, raising her eyes hesitantly, a blush still sprinkled across her nose and cheeks. "That sounds like fun."
She made no comment about the chains again. Her question had been answered, it seemed as though there was nothing more to say on the matter.

Reno gazed back at EJ who was still napping on the beach. He normally didn't take naps, but Reno guessed that his father hadn't gotten much sleep the past few nights. So, he decided to leave it alone once she had gotten embarrassed a bit. He could tell it.
He then took her suggestion. "Oh alright! Well, without a bucket we can't build a proper castle, but with what we have...meaning our hands...we can build a decent one." he said smiling. He splashed through the water until he was at the shore. He went to a spot of water that was wet and sat down. The current was high enough to wash away any castle they would build. Reno determined that by sitting a few seconds when the tide came up and went under, and over, him. But without a bucket, he wouldn't be able to make a castle elsewhere. He couldn't carry water from one place to another without one, but he tried to get some water in the palms of his hands and carry it to a safer location just a few feet away from the tides edge.
After doing that for a bit, more like two minuets, he decided that much water would be enough. He then sat with his legs sprawled out and his hands began to mix the water and sand together and he created a little mud pie in his hand. After having his own fun he called to Serenity, "Serenity! I think I have enough water and sand to make one now." Reno was proud of himself and the fact that he had done this by himself. He felt the sand sticking to him on the bottoms of his legs from being wet, but what could he do, he did hate the feeling. He just shrugged it off and kept mixing. Then he began to shape the mud into an upside down cone-like shape. He had no other way to really create a good castle shape. He just wished he had brought along a bucket and shovel. He tried different times to make different shapes, but couldn't quite get the right one. "Well, to make a good one, we need a bucket, but since we don't have one, I guess we can just play in the mud! Heheh!" Reno was now intent on just playing instead of actually taking the time to create a full-fledged sand castle.

Serenity watched Reno curiously, wondering what he was doing, as he made all those trips with the water. Wouldn't it have been easier for him just to have found something else to carry it in? Perhaps a bucket wasn't necessary, but something ... anything ... would have been easier than a handful at a time.
She waited patiently as he tried to build up a cone-like shape out of the mud he created, still wondering what he was trying to do. When he gave up and just started playing, she giggled.
"You're funny," she told him, still giggling. "Wouldn't it be easier if you had something to carry water in, and make a shape with? We could try using my water cup, the one I usually use for washing my brushes in. Wouldn't that work?"
As she spoke, she picked up a handful of the wet sand he had created and made it into a sort of spiky pillar. Then she picked up some of the wetter sand that was still on the ground and dripped it onto the top. It rolled down the pillar partway and stopped when it dried, reminding her of the way a candle melted.

Reno smiled and felt somewhat dumb for not thinking of using her cup earlier. Had he known that she had one, he would have asked for it. But as soon as she said that he was funny, he blushed a deep shade of red, almost the color of his hair. He then blurted out, "Well, yes, but we didn't have anything. But now that you have suggested your water cup, can we use it? It will make building a sand castle a LOT easier." He smiled and kept playing with the mud he created, then watching Serenity as she took the mud and was making her own creation.
He felt that they were bonding in some way. This 'friendship' could blossom into something closer. Reno wasn't thinking about anything more than close friends. Those kinds of friends that do things together, go places together, and just hang out together. That kind of friendship. But he wasn't sure what to do or say to make that a topic. He just felt that way. He knew that he wasn't anything more than a child, if he even was that, and he knew that she wouldn't completely like him until they were maybe teens or even later, or never for that matter. That thought popped into his mind a few times throughout watching her. He thought that she was pretty, and well, he just hoped that they could become better friends even though she was older and he was only a kid.

"Of course we can!" Serenity replied with a cheerful grin. "And I should clean up my paints, too, I shouldn't let them dry out ... will you come with me?"
He really didn't need to, she could get her stuff on her own just fine, but she liked his company. Besides, he kind of reminded her of Celebor in some ways - enthusiastic, energetic, and fun, and he seemed to like helping people. Perhaps Celebor would like to meet him, too, someday ... and the others, too. But for now, Serenity was content to let things remain as they were. She was usually happy to be left alone, but spending time with Reno like this was ... fun.
As she waited for Reno's answer, she rose to her feet and brushed the wet sand off her pants.

Reno looked up and smiled at her. He blushed just a tad and got up, wiping the sand off of him the best he could. He nodded while saying, "Of course I'll come! Lets go!" With a hop, skip, and a jump, he was off making his way to the other paints. All the while he was just thinking about how much he was beginning to like her company as well. He was excited to have met such a nice young lady. He was content and happy.

Serenity laughed and ran after Reno, kicking sand up behind her as she did. She had never played like this before, and shad never known what she was missing. It wasn't that she hadn't had the chance, it was just that she had always spent her time drawing or painting. But now that she was here, she was having a blast!
She knelt beside her paints and put the caps back on the tubes, then started sticking everything into her bag.
"Should I just leave it all here?" she asked Reno anxiously, looking down at him. "The paint on the canvas has to dry anyways ... is it safe, do you know?"
She left the cup out of her bag so that it was free for them to take it with them when they went back to the water.

Reno waited for the paints to be put away. He was happy that she left the cup out, so that he wouldn't have to ask her again and feel embarrassed. He smiled and then when she asked him if the things would be safe, he figured since they were only going to be a few yards away, why not leave the painting there to dry. "Well, I guess it'll be safe. It should. Who would touch anything? Besides, we're only a few yards away. We can keep a close eye on it! Don't worry." he said in a happy go lucky type of tone. He was happy to be able to have some kind of container to help them in their quest to finish a decent sandcastle.
He then asked, "Can I go fill up the cup with water now?" He became a bit anxious to get started. He held out his hand as if he were wanting something. In this case, it was the cup. He really wanted to get working on that sandcastle. He smiled and politely waited.

"Of course you can," Serenity replied, a little puzzled, as she handed him the cup. She wondered why he thought he had to ask. After all, they had come out here to get it, hadn't they? So that he could get water with it? And show her how to build a good castle out of sand? Why then did he think he needed her permission again?
"Why don't you go ahead and get started, and I'll meet you there in a few minutes again," she suggested. "I just have to finish putting my things away and then I'll be right there, okay?"
She could see how anxious he was to get started, and she was just as anxious; but she needed to make sure her things were properly put away first.
