Mleli was not prepared to admit that either cub had any good points in the arguing. Obviously she couldn't hide everything from them, just as they said- and Mezi's obvious defiance at saying he was going to tell her what to do only made her glare more intense. Lucky for her, she was too smart to fall for the purple leopon's bait when he accused her of being afraid. It was clear neither of them realized what she did was for their benefit as much her own, and to resist making another foolish mistake like attacking Matojo she chose to simply turn away from Mezi and ignore him completely. Calling her afraid was the worst Mleli figured he could do, she had size and strength over them while they were cubs.

"You will not anything of the sort, Matojo," she hissed, now taking note of the damage her attack had caused. He didn't look gravely injured, especially if he still dared to talk back, "You know more than enough, and I'll not give into the demands of a cub just because some goddess decides to inform you you're of her kind's blood!"

Her word choice was not perfect, but as the boys would certainly be looking for answers in what she said it was very easy to take from it exactly what they wanted to know. All in all, the point she was trying to make was that her word should mean more than that of some strange goddess. She could hardly take Matojo's threat to find out for himself and get vengence seriously, as he clearly wouldn't be much of a threat to an adult.

"I am sorry mother." Pain and high strung emotions make for an odd mix and odd mixes sometimes have odd results. Matojo offered a small smile to Mezi, trying to reassure him he wasn't too bad. But frankly he was now just disgusted with everything and his voice was softer.

Matojo may have gotton to his feet, but his head was throbbing and his shoulder hurt. His instincts at the moment were telling him perversely to run to his mother for comfort, get his wound licked clean, and find a safe place to rest.

"Sorry that your life was changed by the god in a way you didn't want. You didn't want us. Truely. But we'll be out of your paws one day."

Completely annoyed with his mother's backside view, Mezi did the only thing a reasonable cub could do: he turned his back on her as well. Tere he sat stubbornly while Mleli and Matojo chatted it up, he made dramatic huffs and sighs, glaring off into the surrounding jungle. His mind was positively fuming now with annoyance for his mother and anger or her refusal to share information. It was their right to know about their father, wasn't it? Even if he was a jerk who simply went away. Even if he was the reason that they were half-lion. Even if he was the reason his mother was so cranky all the time. They had the right to know about him. He was in their genes! He was part of them. It was like Mleli wasn't telling them that they were leopons and not full leopards. With this new idea sparked in his mind, the purple cub whipped around and raced around to face his mother's front, beside Matojo.

"We have a right to know. He's in our blood." Mezi's look was still angry, but there was a new flash of arrogance in it. He believed that he had come up with the perfect arguement, one which Mleli could not fight against. He had yet to pick up on any of the slips the leopardess had made with the word god and such. Matojo's statement made it obvious that their dad was a bird-lion, but it hadn't really sunk into Mezi's head that this was significant in any way. All it meant at the moment was that not only was dear ol' pa a lion, but he had wings.

Mleli was probably the last mother in Africa who would be considered for 'mother of the year'. She was barely even a good mother outwardly. She loved her cubs, in her own way, she cared about what happened to them, but she did not know how to handle them. The leopardess didn't know what to do when dealing with so many, especially after how they'd come about, and when she'd .. made them so demanding. Mleli had no clue what to say to stop their questioning now, there wasn't much she could say- they would not understand rape fully, she didn't want them to. It was almost impossibly hard not to reply in a childish way.

"If I didn't want you, you wouldn't have lived through the first night," she hissed at Matojo, unable to prevent this rather petty comment. The leopardess took a step back so that she could now see both Matojo and Mezi now that Mezi had rejoined the arguement.

"I'll tell you everything you both need to know when I'm good and ready," she said, her tone now more emphatic and serious than angry, "And when you're ready."

Matojo was out of the argument now, though he'd been trying to word another phrase to reply with while Mezi had his stay. Instead he had to screw shut his eyes against the renewed throbs of pain in the gashes on his shoulder and neck. Right now, the last thing he wanted to be was weak. But the shock and pain were worse than that time he fell out - or 'climbed down' - that tree and ripped a claw out.

Besides, it was a strain to think about all this. Painful and confusing. But to give uo woud be to abandon Mezi in the middle or standing up to their mother. Demanding teh truth of it all. Still. He laid down. Still, at least he'd listen.

"But when...when will we be ready anyway? Why can't we be the judges of our own characters. Will be worse to wonder..." he hut his eyes for a stretch again. Mfft.

By this point, Mezi was so deep in his anger that he simply wasn't thinking anymore. It wasn't even that he was in a rage or anything. He was just beyond processing the events that were unfolding, the words that were being said. The last thing he could gather was that Mleli thought her brood wasn't old or mature enough to know about their father and her past. No atter how true that might be, the purple cub found it as the last straw. There was no convincing that leopardess. It had to be a girl thing. What was with the other gender, anyway? Kafiri wasn't like this! ... Or was she? Come to think of it, Mezi'd never argued with his sister like this before. Perhaps he should try to get her riled up sometime just to see if she was as unreasonable as their mother was when she was in a mood. What he was failing to realize here was that he, too, had a temper just like his mother's, and that the adult had a very good reason for keeping info from him.

In a fit of annoyance and anger, Mezi stood up and shouted with absolutely no reason. "RAHHHGHR." With that, he fliped on his back leg and stalked off, disappearing into the brush. It hadn't occured to him that he was leaving Tojo behind to argue by himself. Deep down, though, if he had thought of it, he wouldn't have turned back. He throughly believed Tojo could fend for himself with their mother, even in this fight. Toj was easily the strongest of the litter physically, and Mezi was sure that his brother was strong mentally as well. He'd be fine. For now, Mezi just needed to go find a flower path to sit and fume in.

Mleli could have laughed in Matojo's face for thinking he could judge for himself if he was fit enough to hear and understand what he was demanding she tell him. They were just cubs, and while they were not the same happy-go-lucky, bouncy and naive cubs some might have, they certainly had a lot to learn and a lot of growing up to do. She was momentarily distracted by the sound of Mezi's angry yelling, but she didn't move or take her eyes off of Matojo. She knew Mezi had gone off.

One down, one to go.

"I will be the judge of that," Mleli snapped. While it might involve the cubs, it was more personal to her than it was to them. They could be curious about him, could form their own opinions, and perhaps one day she would explain- but not while they were cubs.

Despite it all, Matojo managed one more soft snarl, wincing as his expression made the cuts on his cheek twinge worse. But some corner of his mind was fighting with the rest about staying. He didn't want to abandon his brother or stand down, but that corner of his mind was starting a shut down.

He'd never been a very 'together' cub and dealt badly with every little hiccup in their lives, often swinging from one view to another trying to work out the 'right' way to be. Rather than just trying to be himself, whoever the hell that was. His reaction to the goddess had been a prime example, where he hadn't been able to cope and had become sarcastic and petty. Mleli's sudden appearance had made him growl for she was the last person he'd wanted to see and his muddled feelings had expressed themselves with the arrogance of an angry adult.

More mixed up than ever, he got to his feet and started to pad away. Simply dismissing it all. He wanted to lick his wounds, ignore his thoughts and emotions then just sleep. Damn it all.

Mleli simply stared down the boy, not flinching at any sound or snarl that came from him, or any expression change. She was unmoved, even as he turned around and left. She watched him as he went, and became less tense when he was out of sight. She had no problem letting them go off like that, they always came back and obviously needed to let some steam off.

So, they had met a goddess. They had been told they were the children of another god- but how did she know? Would they handle well figuring out the truth?

The leopardess did not realize just how much she had given away- more than enough to realize that they were in fact demigods. Needing to calm down herself, she turned off in the direction opposite that chosen by the boys, and walked off.
