have you tried shielding, it's mainly used to contain your own energy but i cant see why it wouldnt work in reverse. A shield can also warn you when someones trying to latch onto you before they actually get through so it could be useful. bubble shield is easy, think of colour NOT BLACK, visualise small coloured bubble in your center. enlarge it until it surrounds you and your aura. hold it there until you can feel the protection. It should last ages as long as you keep periodically reinforcing it with small bursts of energy from your centre. Can be slightly draining, just a warning, so keep your energy stocked up by eating veggies, fruit and borrowing some energy from the earth.

Black can become way too intense over long periods of time. Especially for beginners...and especially for people who have been studying for under 3 years. i am quite proficient in shielding and I can't even completely control a black shield. And it can sap some of your own energy aswell, which is not good.
Black is good when not in a pure energy form, like candles and such, for magical protection, Go for blue if in a pure energy form, less hassles.

Maybe if you used a shield of pure black.... But what if you mixed speckles of that black--for protection and power--with purple--as I understand it, the color of the Spirit Realm...? Hmm......wouldn't that be interesting...?
Or white for purity and black for protection...? Hmm......what about...black for power and protection and white for purity--of strength and will--all mixed in with purple, for enhanced True Sight...?
Oh! Then what about...blue for healing and green for new growth? What a rejuvenation spell that would make! Or...yellow for joy and fortune and red for passion and luck for the ultimate "good luck" charm!
Ooooohhhhhh!!!!! heart heart heart Leavy-kun has a new spell study to work on!!! xd xd xd

The colour mixes can work really well. BUt as I said you gotta be careful not to drain your energy.
I have an almost constant black reinforced with purple shield. I can tell you from experience that it's not that easy to keep up over long stretches of time unless you train and get used to it.
Experiment with different colours and uses, it can be quite interesting what you can come up with.

Honey, you could say that I am very well acquainted with the rainbow. *cough* PUN *cough* And I am...let's say, used to heavy energy usage. So much so that I don't bother putting up shields anymore--my aura has evolved with me so that it has become a potent shield and cleanser all of its own.
Actually, shield is the wrong word...it has become like a second pair of arms for me. It can welcome and make an endearing atmosphere, or it can warn and make a protective atmosphere. It's more like...you aren't going to believe me, but the way my aura has developed, it's almost like a pair of wings. Multi-functional assets, if you'd prefer.
But, anyway, for a very basic shield, I would use white or blue. Those are pretty safe bets. And if you can set energy siphons--have the blue draw energy from water and white from light--you can minimize energy usage. Of course, since I manipulate my environment's energy signature to reduce my own costs by drawing in energy from my surroundings and releasing a small part of my own body's physical energy, that becomes much more difficult for me. But for most other people, creating a siphon is fairly easy.
No class required. Simply draw energy from around you to reinforce the "shell shield" you've created, and then gradually release your energy feed, until most of it is being supported by the environment itself, rather than you. This way, you can go for much longer periods of time while shielded.
Naturally, this can't be done so well in rituals, which require personal energy signature as well as a great deal of energy--usually quickly. Hence, the reverse method of taking the energy from the environment and replacing it with your own, in order to maximize energy content. Of course, this is completely unnecessary for most tasks, but it's a handy tool to have in a fix.
Or, if you are learning to build energy stamina. It's also good to do every once in a while, because it allows for you and your environment to have an exchange of energy, which can benefit the both of you. Just like the body needs a variety of vitamins and minerals to work properly, the spirit needs a variety of energies to function at its best. No one wants "soul scurvy", right?
Problems: you have to be careful about when and where you do this. Obviously, at someone else's house is a bad idea. In negative environments. In unshielded environments. Around very sensitive people whom you do not warn beforehand (!), etcetera, etcetera.
Just be careful. Very, very careful.

I was more directing the be careful stuff to others who read. I know how dangerous this stuff can be to your personal energy store. I love my shield of black and purple sparkles and I don't think I'm ever going to change it. I need a shield to contain myself since I am a psi vampire. It kind of sucks (bad PUN) I would use my shield for other things if there wasn't a risk of drawing too much energy from others. You know all that harm none stuff. I agree with the blue or white for beginners, easy to manipulate and gets bonus points for being able to draw from elements. can I get a w00t for the elements? oh forget it Quote: Or, if you are learning to build energy stamina. I know from experience how a low energy store can effect daily life. Soul scurvy = badness. Don't fall into that trap. On a side note: always remember to ground after any energy stuffs, or you could run the risk of burnout(no not like a car). In rituals forget about shields ect. Just make sure energy is moving at all times. This is a major problem for me as I cannot protect others from being sapped, so I just keep the energy moving, having theirs and sharing mine. Maintains balance

corvilla Black can become way too intense over long periods of time. Especially for beginners...and especially for people who have been studying for under 3 years. I have several problems with that. First your three years part. I learned more in my third year of studying then I have in any other year. Just because you have 3 years doens't mean squat. Second color, like most things, are what you make of it. Black overwhelms you because you LET it over whelm you. Black is a good reflective color and it would help. I do agree however that it would be dangerous for a shield as it will reflect what you send back stright to you (since black reflects from both sides). However I would suggust using blue because it is a protection color. But then again if blue isn't your protection color then it won't be any more effective than any other color! Color only has meaning if you give it meaning!

I agree you learn more in the first few years. I'm saying that it is not wise to try out such intense energy work as this until you understand the fundamentals which can take a few years. BTW i have 7 years under my belt not 3 and I am still learning, the reason for joining this guild.
As I said in above post, I use it to shield myself from others. Therefore black can work for me. I was giving this advice to OP who hadn't been studying long, if you try these things out all at once it can be draining. Just making sure she understands the risks because I wouldn't want things to go a bit wrong from advice I had given. Plus I am just repeating the advice given to me by the person who taught me shielding, this advice helped me lots so I figured I should pass on that knowledge.
I suggested blue since most people see it as a calm protective colour, I also said to try out different colours. Whatever works for you.

It's interesting, isn't it? On their own, colors mean absolutely nothing. But if enough people think if them as something--like red means stop and green means go--then for that set of people, those colors take on those aspects.
I used to not bother with colors, until I started working heavily into the spirit realm. The thing is: colors do matter--so long as others can recognize it.
Likewise, I wonder if I were to concentrate on the color itself and, say, a virtue--compassion, self-control--what would happen. Is it possible, then, to believe in colors and therefore give colors a strength that they wouldn't otherwise have?
Now that would be an interesting study....

Love and Vale, -LD Aspect has everything thing to do with power and influence, to a certain degree; as we have seen in this thread and others, the mistaken perception that years of study or practice somehow elevate one witch above another insomuch as status and magical prowess. That said, color is one of those things that exists in a limbo of prescribed and actual power. For, like many here have stated, certain colors have certain meanings because we, society, place that meaning upon them. Black is the color of death in the Americas, whereas white is considered to be the colour of mourning in the East. However, it has been proven that certain colours induce a psycho-physiological effect in human beings, and this is often interpreted as a colours "meaning". Blue induces calm, therefore is correspondent with peaceful magic. Black is the absence of color, the Negative, or Yin, and is associated with negative energy, whether you are summoning it or banishing it. I suppose my message is simply that nothing is clear-cut. One person's philosophy doesn't necessarily put another's to rest. Quite often two, three, or more methodologies are at work on the same facet of one belief.

That's very true. Which is why we must be very careful about the colors we use, and how we use them. I still think it would be interesting to imbue colors with virtues. I think I'll try that....
Oh, and have you considered why red is such a lusty color? Or one also associated with pain? We are human, and our brains know what certain colors mean to the body. Blue might be considered peaceful because it reminds the body of water, a necessity for the body, which sets the primal mind at rest--we have water. Pink might imply passion, because.... Well. I'll let the parents give that lecture.
So, while the body's messages are fairly clear when considering certain colors, that does not necessarily mean that animals will reply in like kind, or certain individuals, or spirits. But what if we can also apply an actual "feeling" to the implied feeling of the color to give a basic understanding of what it means to anything? As I have said, it would be an interesting thing to study....
