I wouldn't say she is a secret agent, more like a friendly neighborhood cop or volunteer. As for people who try to RP where they really shouldn't be I think the best approach is to nudge them in the right direction and tell them to try beginners for a while, then if they have improved when we meet again I'll accept them. Pre-owned skills are acceptable but that is only if they have some restraint on how they use them. To me having a skill that you have no idea how to use is pointless and well a waist of space in their profile...
Well that's just my view on things! This is a nice discussion thread by the way. ^_~

No, what I was saying is that I have already accepted them, and they know about that I don't want them to make their own skills. Once they start posting they will start to make their own skills.
Also, why does no one ever wants to be a healer in any Rps, even if they do have some skills to hurt the enemy.
This wasn't meant to be a discussion thread. It was supposed to be set up so that they new people would see this, if they missed the sticky, and post in the sticky, and not start their own thread to let everyone know that they are new.

Onamisaki I-I sweatdrop I forgot it was top secret information. ninja I actually find it rather hard to turn people away. I've only done it once because I knew he wouldn't get along with my other RPers. I kinda end up letting in really weak profiles in the hopes that the player will get better with time and a bit of guidance. All I do is move threads as a moderator assistant xd At least, that is my cover... ninja Oh goodness, I'm getting better about that I hope. I was looking back at some of the old profiles that I had accepted for Feretris, that I wouldn't accept now. (those players are gone). I find that people get insulted no matter how you try to tell them that they are not ready for your RP. Beginners who come into an advanced RP trying to apply really have an inflated ego to begin with. Even some intermediate players are unwilling to change their AWESOME profile. rolleyes When you let people in you have to judge their attitude as well as their skill. People with a poor attitude aren't going to improve, at least not fast enough for me. Sorry, but when I am the GM and I am playing 6 or so characters at a time, I don't want to torture myself having to play a 7th character opposite your crappy one. Veinkiller, thank you for this topic. Don't worry about it evolving. Eh, people should just read the stickies.

However it did turn into a discussion. A good one I might add.
Most people don't want to be a healer though because they're afraid that they might have to heal everyone and they would prefer to have their own action. I'm not saying they don't get action but most look upon it as a weak skill and don't bother. I accept weak people too but if their inexperience disrupts progress I ask them to try the beginner level RPs.
I also want to point out that even if they don't get to start out with the skills most will gain them in impossibly short amounts of time.
Just so you know this does look like another one of the very threads you're talking about at first... I only knew it wasn't one of them because I have seen you before in the guild. (you're a skilled Rper by the way)
Sorry i write long replies and if this sounds rude, I didn't mean for it to be...
Edit: I agree with you completely Penden!

Awww, party poopers.
I wouldn't like to make a healer-type for the my Rp, it just seems God-moddish even if you can do it correctly. Maybe an alchemist or something with limitations, but not one that can erase a wound completely-besides as Roka Shotar has said before, healing the body is a complex process. The only way it would be easy was if you had studied the body and its parts as part of your career before..
Blah.

lol
I suppose you're right but a good way to keep this under control is in order heal someone you take at least half of their pain and if you do it too much it may cause bodily harm. Some like to play the damsel in distress though so... Perhaps it is better to keep healing out of the picture.

Yea, healers are the most needed characters in a fantasy type Rp. There are skills that the characters get after about level 3 or 4 that lets them self heal but it has a big down time. Also I like to play the healers because they get a lot of the attention in the Rp during a fight.
I am not worried about the thread evolving. I was just surprised by it changing into a discussion thread.
I am a good Rper? Thanks! But I never thought my self as one... I was surprised when my Rp got moved into the intermediate section.

Some like to play the damsel in distress though so... Perhaps it is better to keep healing out of the picture. It's very hard, because honestly, even when a player does it well enough, it still feels like cheating to the GM. Don't players get away with enough by skirting the odds and not dying without magic? Yet I have healing in my RP because I do not like to stifle creativity too much. By the same token I also had a player that sounded like he was trying to tell me how to play my character, because my character got hurt. O.o Maybe he wasn't trying to sound like that, but I had already looked up the symptoms of shock as a refresher. Maybe he was just used to people not RPing realistically? We should have an entire help thread dedicated to playing injured characters. crying

Lol.
When I have a healing character in a Rp, I use Hp, Mp, and the amount of Hp healed. Like at level 1 the fighters hp is 60, and the healers only heal 20 hp with the basic heal skill.

I don't like all that stat stuff myself but I can see where it would be useful in a case like this. Hey, about you being an intermediate player-- it's good to set your standards for yourself high! I expect to see you improve greatly. You clearly put thought behind what you post, but not all of that thought makes it out on the paper so to speak. Just my personal opinion.

I don't even like healers in role playing games. Simply because they have weak all around defence, and they are defensive type characters. I like killing/hurting things...a lot. So yeah, I can see why not many people would like to be one.
