Yes, I do.
What makes a name unoriginal?
Ones that people put because it's the popular anime character at the moment, stuff like that. I also see a lot of "-chan" ones and ones that say things like "No name, Insert your name here, Username" type of things. Ones that come from video games also, or tc shows.
Is my name original?
I don't know. Is it? Is my name original? Lol. I sure don't see anybody else with it.

Why do you think more than 3/4 of Gaia has to have a username with some character from anime or games in it?
I guess they just want to show people what they like, or they just don't feel like takeing the time to try and find a name that noone else has.
Do you think your name is original?
I think my name is pretty original, I've been using it for 7 years and I have never seen another like it.
What do you think makes a username original?
Something that is actually different than everyone elses, not just a popular character's name with a big line of numbers after it.

Mines origional, Leila started as an NPC in my first RPG, and she soon became a PC, controlled by muah. The Amore part of it is Itallian for the word love. The new role playing charactor that she is, isn't quite as evil as the origional. It was a star wars RPG, but I came up with the name!

I think they meanly all have anime or videogame names because this is a anime website.
My name though is two of my nicknames put together. My best guy friend calles me angel and my mom and family call me che-bear.
So my username is original.

I think it is because they want to "ride" the popularity wave. If that character is popular, then they hope that it might make them the same. Or they feel as though they show alot of manerisms of that character and thus think of themselves like that. Or they might have a username like that to show others that they like a certain show/game and hope that they can attract others that like that aswell.

I think so. Everyone asks me how I made it, and this is what I tell them:"I just thought of an element and a mystical creature that I liked, and then I put them together." Whether its original to others doesn't really matter to me

Ummm...I'm not sure, maybe something that hasn't been seen before, then it would really be original, but that would be hard to do i suppose.

Why do I think that 3/4 of gaia is unoriginal? Because most people cannot come up with an original name. Nobody has any imagination these days. Why do you think we have so many number two movies?
Do I think my name is original? Yes. It's not japanese, though some think it is. It's purely me and my imagination. I made it up a few years ago along with another name for my friend. I'd appreciate it if my name wasn't copied.
What do I think makes a name original? My name means "broken woman" and I sometimes go by just Miu for short (in other words going by just "broken"). My name is pronounced Me-you-sir-uh. And I think it's beautiful. And no one else has thought to name themselves "Miusyra". Anyone that can come up with something other than an anime character's name or something similar, makes it original.

Mine is origional ^^ it started out as a Person from a fanfic i was wrting ^^ but then it just randomly became my nickname ^^
Ruppy dirived from Ruppi which my friend refer as puppy since they have a mini schnauzer named Tai and all his toys are called stuff like Ruppicoon or Ruppisheep or ruppybear or ruppiseal etc ^^ I just randomly said ruppichan one day which lead to ruppychan ^^ so thus mine is origional ^^

Shyzi... was just random. It popped up in my head when I tried to think of a new screename. I'm kind of shy. I noticed it. So I picked " shy" first. Zi was.. idk. But it is not pronounced Shizzy, shiznit, shyzeh etc. it is pronounced ( shy-zee ) I believe Ao means blue in traditional japanese. But since blue is a common favorite color, I changed it to black as my favorite color, but couldn't find the meaning of black in japanese so i stuck with Ao. The end.

They think of it as a way to draw attention to themselves... you know by having the name of a popular character, despite the numbers after if going into the thousands, that they might draw from that... *shrug* Beats me.

I suppose. It's simple too... kage=shadow koneko=kitten. Shadow Kitten...oi. It was just a break from my normal gargoylekitty name and a bit from my new enrollment in japanese at the time(going into my third year of it now)

i keep seeing people say names with numbers after it don't make it original. well i could have a name like this whowasthat24 and that is original. but it has a # after so technicaly #'s in a name don't mean squat

I''d have to say it''s because of the idolization they have for that character and that they feel that they have some sort of similarity to the character so to show that they name that use the name.

Yes and no... it''s from a massvive, massive, MASSIVE Sailor Moon story I''m writting Since the character Prince Apollo was and still is based off of me to some extent... it was moreso when the story started, I made a few changes in him to make him a better herop and different from me...though he still mirrors the hero (and personality) I still long to be and strive for. So it''s original since I created it and didn''t steal it, but not since I ripped it from a story I''m writing.

A name that has not been stolen from a work by someone else. It can have numbers...if those numbers have a special meaning to you. Take for example CrystalFyre777, her favorite number is 777 the accepted number of the Messiah.

I really have to agree with Yuki here... Only my percentage is like... 2/3...
Out of my entire time on gaia, I hardly see any creative names. Or names that are NOT stolen from anime characters, video game characters, or people of the likes... Or beasts... I guess. The trend of those irritatingly, unforgiveably, cheated names is just... ERR!
I know my name isn't 100% mine. I did make it from a few various sources... BUT! The way I use the name, and the way I say it, AND the way it's built make it original...
I think what Yuki means by original, is "Not copied or stolen from an already existing form."
Hardly do I see GOOD names...
I'm also sick of seein' the SNs that aren't even names... Like [TouchmeHoldme].
-.- That crap pisses me off... It's not a name... It's just random words, often, that don't even have anything to do with the actualy person... Ugh. Any ways!
All in all, I agree with Yuki's point... That many gaians do NOT have their OWN names... Almost like people are too lazy, stupid, or just plain sad to make their own names, or atleast take more than one name to form them into one inteligent name... -.-...
But yes, I do think my name is original. In the sense that there are NO other named characters of the likes, "Kujamaru." -.-...

I took the time to read Kouji's first post and I... Can't say I completely agree with his look on the matter of original names...
I do think it's 100% possible to be original. Just people are too lazy to make up their own things. Real life names are often not meant to be original, rather just to give someone a title... Whether it's taken or not doesn't matter...
As for screennames or fantasy characters of the likes... A name of your own creation is totally possible. It's pathetic to see characters on gaia using "Kagome" or "Kakashi" as a name, when their character cannot possibly be them unless they were the creator of that very person...
I also do not think that someone will ALWAYS have the same name as you, talking online still. The odds are fairly slim of that happening if you're sure your name is original... Maybe SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW, a person MIGHT, MIGHT(!) get the idea to use a SIMILAR name... But I personally do not believe that any one person has the same exact thought at any one time...
Not one thing in the world can be exactly like another, even if cloned... There WILL be differences, I don't make any exceptions with thoughts... Nothing can ever be replicated to it's 100% original form... I hope you people understand what I mean here...
So yeah... You all know how I like to argue... Thusly, Kouji's post was hard to ignore for me... sweatdrop
