SuperJawes2112 Ace Paladin SuperJawes2112 I guess I have to say Final Fantasy. Maybe it's just me, but I think a lot of FF games get a lot on undeserved attention just because they have the FF tag. If Square took the time to NAME each one -- like Kingdom Hearts -- they might find out which lines have the most following, and a game like FF VII would become a series, with multiple points of view. Madden and NBA Live should die, too. EA is seriously putting out the same crap every year and people eat it up. I'd rather see more Mario Spots. At least the Italian plumber would get a good share of innovation out of each go. They share the same name because they're in a series. rolleyes
If you actually played more than a handful of FF titles, you'd realize they have a lot of the same elements/story plots.
And... It's not like they're to lazy to think of a name so they tag of "FF". The reason why Kingdom Hearts had a different name, believe it or not, was because it was in a different series.
Hence, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.
See the pattern? But the Final Fantasy games were never in a series. They may be similar, but the truth is, FF VII, VIII, and X all have completely different characters that never meet each other -- unless you count Kingdom Hearts. X had X-2, which was a result of X's success. However, X had nothing to do with VII, Mystic Quest (SNES), Legends I, II, or III, and so on. I just think that the FF tag gives a lot of attention just because it's Final Fantasy, and it's a pretty cheap way to sell a game. I never said characters had to meet each other. I'm talking about signature FF themes, and s**t like gil, chocobos, cid, etc, etc.
The only time a title is "slapped onto a game" would be a yearly-release-bullshit-series.... not unlike Madden.

Realistically, each Final Fantasy occurs in a different world, meaning that while creatures might be similar, they are completely different games. Final Fantasy games don't need to die, just the name. And YES, Square tags their games with Final Fantasy to sell them. The game will likely be good, but putting a Final Fantasy tag on it ensures that it will sell.

Square Enix is known for its games.... just seeing the company name on a case shows it won't suck. When Square makes games, they know what they are doing. They aren't desperate and don't need a title to sell games. Their other games are proof of that.

Devil May Cry anyone? I don't like the series because it has too much of a wanna be "Gothic" feel to it. It wants to be dark and all but it fails to actually be different. It feels like a Castlevania knockoff only difference is demons and another character to cosplay. Dante..is boring...Borrringg.

But those games actually redefines characters twice. Easter eggs aren't even tie-in factors. They are simply left for a user to find and enjoy, which is really a trademark of a company (Samus and Link in Super Mario RPG). What I'm saying is that having one underdeveloped character from one Final Fantasy have his/her own game to develop them would be awesome, ans fans of that character would be pleased to have more face time for them. EDIT: (bold) The only reason you say that is because of Final Fantasy.

Crimson The Blade I think you guys are forgetting the worst one of all? One word... Tony Hawk. I surprised we did miss that, but very true. It's fun once or twice, but that's one of those games that you can only invent so many times before it's become worse than Madden. At least with Madden you get updated rosters.

I don't get it. If a game is good, does it matter if it's in a series? I for one hope Final Fantasy never dies.
Still, I definitely agree with the Tony Hawk thing. I've never cared for that series.

The games overall might be good, but I just think they're getting undeserved attention sometimes thanks to the FF tag.

If they change the name, it's no longer in the same series.

Why limit a series to "the same character(s) doing the same thing(s)". For anything, wouldn't that be "just slapping a title on"?

Sure there's a few bad games, never said there wasn't, but when looking at their entire list (instead of 3 or 4 titles attempting to prove a point) you'll see lots of great games outside the FF series.

It's similar work, but the stories are not sequential, making the name Final Fantasy a tag.

Why limit a series to "the same character(s) doing the same thing(s)". For anything, wouldn't that be "just slapping a title on"?No...again, you only say that because of Final Fantasy. Halo is a series. It's going to be a three-part story once the third is released, and will also have updated to weapons. Zelda each has a unique story and unique weapons -- if you take the time to play. Even Mario goes around and does different things. With the addition of better processing power and memory, he's even been able to get a halfway decent story, however simplified it may be. Final Fantasy has a lot of great stories, but they are all singular, and making "sequels" requires not a Final Fantasy tag, but a tag+Roman numerals so you know which story they're talking about. All I'm saying is that Square is taking the easy way out when creating their RPGs, with no apparent goal to tie all of them together at any time. I would prefer them to make new titles partially to extend the better editions of the games. We've seen two FF VII's and X's, but a unique name would somewhat open the door to make a trilogy for the VII series, which would actually make Square more money.
