I believe in paranormal activity.

Not to say that it's actually paranormal. It just hasn't been explained by science yet.

To this day, I honestly, truly believe that my dorm room in college was haunted. Haunted by what? I don't know. I use it as a blanket term. I just know that there was some freaky s**t going down in there.

And you can say all you want, but as an atheist, evidence is what convinces me. And something just ain't natural when all the clean pairs of chopsticks in the room end up behind the poster above the door while we were both gone and the door was locked. Sure, it happens once, I take it as a fluke and shrug it off. But when s**t like that starts happening all the time, you just CAN'T ******** IGNORE IT.

Something is up. I'm not sure what it is, but I've been skeptical on the matter while still keeping an open mind.

Our scientific understanding of the universe is constantly changing. You may never know what may be scientifically proven in the future.

Yeah, the thing is some evidence is misinterpreted, or the data is taken in by unreliable instruments, like human senses.

Oh, totally. You're absolutely right. And the whole "oh-em-gee it only happens around believers" is bullshit. Do you know why it only happens around believers? Because, like Fox Mulder, they WANT to believe.

...my room was still haunted, though. stare

See, and I'd totally be too chickenshit to do that. 4laugh

Weird s**t happens to me on a constant basis. A lot of it is so commonplace, you forget how weird it is. For example, you know the feeling you get when it feels like you're falling out of bed right as you're settling into sleep, then your body jerks and you're wide awake again? I forget what the technical term is, but it happens to me every once in a while. I still think it's weird as hell.

Another good example is this: How many times have you heard an odd noise, and disregarded it as being nothing? There's a lot of things you'll never see answered in your lifetime, but I think it's ultimately the inquisitiveness of the person in question that determines just how much does actually get answered.

its called a hypnic jerk. it happens to people a lot and its nothing out of the ordinary. we studied such things in the chapter of sleep back in my biological psychology class when i was back in college. an amazing class i must say and fascinating things we discussed.

Well to throw my 2 cents in, I definitely believe in spirits. But compared to other people's beliefs,

demons, poltergiest, ghost, angel, spirit, are all the same thing. just people keep giving them different names with different purposes.

in the bible its plain and simple, there's angels and there's demons. demons and angels roam the earth, but the most likely one to bother you for whatever reason is the demons because satan and 1/3 of his angels were cast to earth doing whatever they do.

however im not so quick to dismiss natural reasoning for odd noises or something misplaced. usually when i hear an odd noise i usually just ignore it. unless i remember specifically placing an item in such a way, if i find it in a different position I usually just ignore that as well.

a good example would be my freaky clock. it took me a while to realize why it kept flicking weirdly on its own. and when i gently pulled the cord on the back of it, it made it flick the way it did so i naturally assumed it was the lose cord on the back.

however, there have been instances where I've actually seen an apparition/demon/spirit whatever you want to call it. and i saw a distinct image of whatever it was the saw. 90% of the time it would be from waking up, opening my eyes and seeing something. 10% of the other times it would be seeing something in the corner of my eye.

now when i was taking bio psych for a class we read on the chapter of sleep that there are events where you're coming out of sleep but i believe its you're subconscious that is still in the REM stage of sleep and you would see you're dream right in front of you. i started thinking maybe THIS is why i kept seeing things when i woke up, however this type of event of you're brian still being in REM stage sleep when you wake up is very RARE to happen, and ive had it happen quite often and more than once in a row.

i've also had many events to where i actually sensed some type of presence near me and it took me many times to realize that i was just "imagining" the event. it would happen randomly too. it was like the atmosphere was heavy and i felt a very tense and negative feeling, like a sinking feeling in you're stomach.

there were other events when I'd try to sleep in the back room on the bed and it felt like a pressure on my legs, moving ever so slightly and almost "feeling me". this also took me quite a few times to analyze mentally and physically of whether it was just me or something was actually touching me and i was correct. this too would happen randomly and at any given time when sleeping in the back of the house.

whether this is evidential or not, i firmly believe in ghosts.

I thought this was story, paradise lost, not the bible.

Well, there is the brain's ability to match patterns where there are none. A shadow becoming the figure of a person out of the corner of your eye, for example. Or a flapping curtain becoming a ghost figure.

Sounds a bit like sleep paralysis. Where people awake quite suddenly, and their bodies won't respond as they should, and they panic a little.

1)I'm christian, thats why I mentioned the bible because it speaks of demons and angels.

2) sleep paralysis mainly involves suppression of skeletal muscle tone or inability to move the trunk or limbs at sleep onset or upon awakening. I never mentioned i had no ability to move. in fact i could move completely upon EACH awakening. in severe cases sleep paralysis, at least if you only look at the hallucination part, happens once a week. mine happened 3 times in a row, one day after another.

i seriously doubt its paralysis of ANY kind. the night i woke up, STOOD UP and watched an image move towards me and disappear into the chair across the room is not what i would call paralysis either. either way, i don't consider it a coincidence.
