I don't believe I wanted to play like anyone in particular. I just wanted to learn how to play guitar just to learn how. Now, (almost 4 years into playing) I am just playing and doing whatever I want to do.

Dark_Apollo I wanted to play like Matt bellamy (muse). and i still wanna play like matt bellamy. He's been Hail as this centuries Guitar Genius (TG magazine August issue, IMO i agree, but it's all down to opinion). I got that. I'd have to agree too though. Just a bit annoyed that it wasn't even an interview, just a giant article about how amazing he is... TG bum every one now days. They've really gone down hill me thinks. Roaming bard O yea John Butler When i can play a 12 string like that i can die happy You mean 11 (he drops the double/octave G because it's too "twangy"). =P Connor the archaeologist i wanted to play like the guitarist from ozzy osbourne If you mean Zack Wylde I no longer like you. If you mean Randy Rodes, rock on. cool

When I first started, I wanted to play like Eric Clapton (I can't believe no one else said him), then I moved onto Pink Floyd, where I was convinced I could die happy if I could sound like him. Afterwards I moved onto metal, where I wanted the Kirk Hammett tone, but not the playing style. I wanted a more structured shred solo, as opposed to random notes. Recently, I've been moving away from playing guitar just for the solos. I am looking at guitar fr more as a songwriting tool - such a way where skill isn't measure by how many notes someone can fit into a bar.

My initial influences were James Hetfield of Metallica, and Kerry and Jeff from Slayer. Then, I heard about Death, and Chuck Schuldiner and James Murphy became my new heroes. I also cite KK and Glen from Judas Priest. Another guitarist I admired way back when is George Lynch from Dokken.
