"My name..." he muttered. This was a story he could tell. It was a precious story that he remembered his mother used to tell him. This exact thing had happened before... he'd read books about names and he'd been read a book with his name in it. He was so captivated that he'd asked his mother what it had all meant, and she had happily told him. His mother was much more carefree than his father had ever been, and she was only this way when he wasn't around to scold her for being soft with their son. He enjoyed these times and felt it would be unjust to tell on part of the story.
Of course, it occurred to him that he could simply say he didn't know. But would that be holding it in? Holding in something to hurt him? Would that worry Jaden? If it would even be possible, he didn't like it. A small frown creased his lips and his emerald eyes looked up to the sky for a moment, considering the options. Yes. He'd tell them, and then later he promised himself to tell Jaden.
"My name has no meaning that I know of. If it does, I have refrained from looking it up, because the meaning it held to my mother was much more important." He looked back at the other two, keeping emotion from his voice but his eyes sparkled with how much this meant to him. And this was about the gentlest he'd ever get. "My mother loved books and fairy tales as much as anyone. She'd had a favorite book though, dealing with magicians and the such that she simply couldn't help but love. My father thought it was childish of her, but since he wouldn't deny her happiness, he let it continue. The week before I was born, my mother says that she'd been reading the last book in that series she loved so much. She said that, unfortunately, the main character had vanished or ...passed away..." He paused, as if trying to remember specific details. "His name was Nathaniel and for all my father's anger, he could not change her mind when she begged to name me Nathaniel. At last he consented, saying that at least it sounded respectable." Finished, he sighed, a content sigh not a depressed one. "So of all the names I'd ever looked up, I've never looked up mine to see if it really had a meaning."

His eyes opened a bit wider than normal at Nathaniel's sudden outburst about the meaning of his name and a background with his mother choosing it, but no smile played across his lips in a fashion that would have been claimed normal. Instead he merely listened with a bit of a shocked expression on his features, one that returned to his normal semi-grin of interest when the boy had finally stopped talking.
So, he thought to himself, this boy has a bit more to him than what scratches the surface. Should be fun to figure him out in more than one way.
"To be named by your mother for any reason at all seems fair enough to me, and you don't have to know the meaning of your name to feel it has any worth. I don't know the meaning of mine but I can still say my name with pride, can't I? If things in your past make you feel like holding little bits of anything closer to you for any reason, then why shouldn't you?"
He came off like he was lecturing in front of a group of small children, and in a way Micajah felt like he was. The two boys he chatted with reminded him of two children in class - one the over-eager student who may not always do well but tries ever so hard, and the other being that somber student whose knowledge belies their age but never gives the effort to share with others.
"If you want to treasure something, treasure it in your own way. You can share it with others or hold it close to your heart and close your eyes. There are many ways to deal with your thoughts, your memories, your treasures. I won't say you should bear them alone or try and bear them with others. Do what you feel."
He didn't speak harshly, nor did he speak like he was talking to a weeping child as he spoke his last words. His voice neither wavered nor stayed strong, and his expression never faltered from the usual. It was almost as if this was a speech he himself had heard many a time...

Elijah's reaction wasn't too different from Micajah's in a very calm sense, taking in the information while fascination displayed across his youthful visage. It surprised him at first but smiled all the same enjoying learning more about the pair beside him. And Mica's small inspiring lecture was something to marvel as well. It was both stirring and very mature (thus resulting in Elijah's admiring quintessence). Both boys’ were promising, equally possessing qualities that the school must have found within them ensuing their acceptance.
And he fully agreed with the words spoken. Nodding expressed this accompanied with a friendly answer.
“I believe Mica is right,” he spoke, “Anything possessed is cherishable to someone no matter what it happens to be.” He wasn’t sure what his words were worth but he wouldn’t be a hypocrite to what he had just said and ignored the fact he sounded rather lame in comparison to Mica. Giving a warm smile to Nathaniel he watched him in the short seconds that passed before passing his eyes to Micajah then variously down the halls. His arms swung back, colliding behind his back connecting delicately giving him a childish stance that only magnified his confidence and innocence.

If possible, Nathaniel found himself swept up in Micajah's words and had a far off look in his eyes for the next few moments so that he seemed to miss what Elijah had said. However, he didn't bother himself with it for he was sure, from the other's expression and stance, that he had fully agreed with the strangely stirring speech. Green eyes widen a tad as he too nodded slowly and surveyed the new student with a calm respect. He had no contempt for people who could speak like that, in fact, it reminded him of his mother's strong will but soft voice. It reminded him evermore of how she would always still his withering spirits or stop his tears when his father was ever so harsh. The young British lad let a kind smile form on his face. Something he knew to be very true to himself, or as true as he could get in this stage of his socialization development. It was a smile Jaden would have been proud of.
Once upon a time, he would've been arrogant and not have even risked the chance to answer such a question in the first place. And if he had, he wouldn't have liked the heartwarming words of Micajah, and yet now... he smiled at them. "I never said I didn't cherish my name, merely that it has no meaning. However, it is true when I said it has no meaning... that does not mean it holds nothing for me." There was a tad bit of the 'you-implied-too-much-and-manipulated-my-words' tone, but it was more playful than it was harsh. Harshness wasn't an emotion he wanted to let in anymore. Jaden had listened to him far too much to let such things go to waste. And Nathaniel owed him far too much to be a disappointment to his only friend.

Phew. I was scared I went to far, but this works as well.
Micajah's face curled into a laughing smile as he closed his eyes and let a faint blush cross his cheeks, a clear indication he was possibly flattered at what the two before him were saying.
It seems they'd understood his message, his sermon as he was now calling it, and perhaps even enjoyed it. It only went to show him that these two were worth more attention and time that he might have previously thought, and that their futures were ready and waiting to happen.
Perhaps...one day something great will come of these two.
"Oh, my mistake then. Sometimes when people say something 'has no meaning' I translate it to 'I care not for it'."
He playfully bopped himself upside the head with the tip of his index finger, a strange and childish manner.

Nathaniel's reaction wasn't shocking but nor was it something Elijah expected thus creating a further interest in the youth then previously. Both struck his fascination but he wouldn't deliberately express this except with questions. His eyes shifted from Nathaniel after his statement back to Mica listening to his replying while each orb focused on his physical reaction. A smile breached his lips; he was glad neither had any hard feelings.
But what now to further their conversation? Bringing up another question would certainly extend their meeting, but could he ask that wouldn't potentially garner mixed emotions or trod on anyone's toes? He thought briefly, coming to a conclusion.
"I'm curious...for what reason did you both want to attend this school?" he asked not at all meaning offence clearly expressing his pure intentions with his youthful perpetual smile. His previous stance swayed gently on his heals, while he positioned his arms just off the curve of his spine.

The Brit waved it off with a forgiving gesture and turned to Elijah, curiously. Supposedly it was a question he should have expected, however he was rather trying to avoid it. He realized now, all too late, that he was being a rather interesting fellow. Normally silent and rude to the others, he was now open and friendlier... willing to share. His answers were nothing less than top-notch ones that he could calculate, and so obviously they'd want to know why he'd attended this school. It was a school for the brightest and best to hone their skills and change the world was it not?
It was a question he refused to answer. He was still not ready to cope with this yet, allowing the truth. His revenge driven mind built up a wall again and his smile faded into something more fake out of habit. Trying desperately, he managed to keep his eyes truthfully kind. "I'm sorry, but I have personal reasons as to why I'm here. I'd rather not say." Simple as that, but why did it feel so difficult anyway?

Micajah's eye twitched slightly as he noticed the quick change in Nathianel's facial expression, as he'd been watching the boy quite carefully. It was a bad habit he was thinkign of actually developing more (staring at faces, noticing facial changes), but he was sure it would be a habit his father would greatly approve of.
After all, it would be very useful in the future for Micajah- in any position.
"It's not so personal for me. I was placed here by my father."
A twisted smile tugged at the corner of his lips, and he quickly placed his hand over the tip to try and hide the sinister curl.

He smiled to Nathaniel, fully respecting his right to not answer and nodded his understanding, "That's okay." The youth was still curious, but wasn't about to prod into territory he wasn't welcome.
His crystal blue hues turned to Mica as he answered and blinked, catching a hint of the hidden expression but was too late to examine it. He didn't fully comprehend what it meant so instead focused on the answer.
"Ah," he murmured, unsure of what else to say that wouldn't be too personal.

Without another thought, Nathaniel forced the mask to slip. There was no need to be so protective. These people couldn't do anything without knowing something first. On top of that, they didn't seem like the ones to pry, and really he was trying to make friends not enemies. He would step more carefully now though, for the other's curiosity seemed endless.
Emerald green eyes watched Micajah, and he knew that the other had a secret too. There was something strange in the way he smiled and it was then that he knew the other would be a grand ally, and making friends was a better idea than he had originally thought or intended it to be. After the other had finished, the British boy realized that Elijah hadn't said anything.
"And what of you? If you don't mind my asking," he smiled a little. It seemed pretty ironic to him that though he wouldn't answer the question, he expected Elijah to answer it.

Micajah grinned inwardly as he watched Nataniel turn his questions towards the smallest boy, wondering a bit if his whole desire to learn about others was contagious....or perhaps Nate had an agenda of his own.
Elijah too, he surmised, was probably only asking innocent questions but in return was finding out a good deal of information from the others. True that informationw as coming only because they were all willing to answer, and the youth wondered how much longer would he be able to speak without having to, well, switch.
He chuckled softly as he waited for the answer as well, his mind ready to mark it down.

When the question had been swiveled around back to the youth who initiated it he would admit he was a little surprised, having not thought of an answer previously to immerse in their own replies. But as he thought a digit was brought to his chin where he bit it lightly clearly signifying his short span of thoughtfulness before he pulled his hand away and he grinned.
"Well, I had the chance to further myself so I decided to take what was offered," Elijah answered, feeling a few strands of his bangs fall before his eyes as he swayed back on his heels. He had no heroic reason for joining the ranks of this prestigious school, no thoughts of self ascending, but instead his existence here seemed to be allowed from a mixture of whim and self evaluation.

If he had not seen it with his own emerald eyes, or heard it with his attentive ears, he would not have believed it. Not for an instant. It did not make sense in the British boy's mind that someone could not want to attain something higher. What other purpose was there in the world except to become the best and prove yourself? Prove yourself by impacting the world and the outcome of historical events. It just didn't click in his head, bright as he was, that someone had joined a school like this simply out of pure curiosity. To further oneself for personal gain? Whim, self evaluation? It was all useless in the scheme of things.
His face appeared with a set of mix emotions, amongst them was appalled, confused, and speechless. Averting his eyes at once, to avoid being rude, he mumbled something polite that wasn't really audible anyway, and shifted his position a little. It was an uncomfortable thought to say the least. People with goals that, to him, seemed entirely meaningless. It was a waste of education. How could the other not see it as such?
Lifting his eyes to Micajah, he curiously looked to see if the other thought the same thing.

When Nate raised his eyes to look at Micajah, it didn't take much as the youth was already staring at him. Hard.
The look on Micajah's face was one of annoyance more than anything, though it was hard to read or tell if you weren't overly familiar with Micajah's actions, and the two that were with the youth hardly knew him at all. So to their saving graces, his look was probably one of more than a little interest, and he quickly masked it over with a friendly smirk that seemed a bit haughty before it became something nice.
All these changes took less than a moment to occur, as the youth had at least a decade of practice to master it, and he licked the tips of his lips slightly before he opened his mouth to speak. He thought a little harder this time about what he would have to say, and he hoped it came out warmly.
Or at least, nicer than how it sounded inside his head.
"Interesting reason, to be certain. One might almost think you did it simply because you were asked?"
That didn't come out right, so he tried something else.
"I think your reason though, Elijah, is far better than mine. I almost wish I'd been given the option instead of simply being told I would come here."

The expressions displayed by both were both confusing and expected by the youth whom at first should have realized his answer was a little...strange. Nathan's silence was rather prominent. This hardly bothered him, however, after all, a test was what he took to simply see how he would do and before he knew it a larger journey was set before him. He never expected to pass the entrance test, but when he gained the note that he had received the highest scores he was naturally surprised. But what had encouraged him to take that step forward and take the test in the first place? And what drove him to continue on into the school? He couldn't surely say, Eli didn't really understand himself.
In a way it was as though he drifted along accepting things as they came instead of making things happen for him like so many others tried to do. Mica's reply had come out a little odd but he made up for it swiftly causing the boy to give a sheepish, if not modest, grin.
"Asked? No...but I didn't come to this school with some sort of valiant purpose. Perhaps that's one thing that separates me from many students here..." he paused," Having a significant reason to strive to get in or even continue here at Shinkami is valuable. My reason isn't really that valid I suppose...curiosity isn't exactly an admirable reason. But maybe Mica someone has a dream for you, whatever that might be. Their actions seem valiant in their own ways even if it is odd for them to work through you, but I don't think it so odd for a parent to want the best for their child. And I'm sure your reason, Nathaniel, is commendable too."
