Bluu cackled as she let her white tail thump against the dusty ground, the sound grating. How amusing...
"Nuthin' wrong with scraps. Other creatures do th' work and eat their fill, then ya step in an' eat yours." She cackled again as she dropped her head to lick her paws. His grooming was almost infectious... making her feel like she needed to tidy herself up abit.
A low, almost unheard rumble sounded, and Bluu raised her head as her cackling trailed off. Icy eyes raised to the sky and picked out a dark form on the horizon. It grew and spread as she watched, and a wind kicked up, gentle at first. Dust stirred around them before it settled again, and the blue hyena rose up to shake herself off.
"There's a storm comin'... ya see it? We should probably find a place t' shelter." She watched the darkness, gauging how far away it was, and how long they had to find a place to hide from it.

Kichanga swallowed his mouthful then grinned at Bluu. She did have an awfully good point. Scavenging often bested hunting in terms of ease. Sometimes Kich just didn't have the energy to make a kill all on his own; pre-killed game meant instant gratification... although he hated having to fight for it. Kichanga was by no means a fighter, and he tried to avoid such business wherever possible. "I suppose you're right," he said, then resumed feasting.
He was startled at first to hear her laughter fell apart, although he soon saw why. Turning his olive eyes skyward, he saw the approaching darkness and shuddered. Storms. Kich hated storms. He hated even the little ones, for being damp made him dreadfully uncomfortable... but this looked to be a nasty one brewing.
And so, he was greatful that Bluu suggested finding shelter. "Good idea," he sighed. He ripped off one more hunk of flesh from the tattered carcass and said through his full mouth, "Mmff hhh aaauu." Meaning, of course, 'lead the way'.

Bluu watched the approaching storm with a kind of yearning in her eyes, her body poised and tense. It was a long moment before she could shake it off and turn back to Kichanga, offering him a wide smile and a little wink.
"I think I know just t' place, Cap'n." She chuckled, waiting for him to finish up what he could before she took them off. The carcass probably wouldn't be here when they got back. "Its not too far either."
The moment he seemed ready, she turned and trotted off into the bone piles, the wind in her face. While Kich was unable to see her face, she bared her teeth fiercely and felt the wind tickle through them. She liked storms... the rage of them, and the power... It never ceased to be a thrill to watch a strom from a safe place. As the blue female moved, she kept a careful eye on the storm and another on a place, and her diligent search soon payed off.
There... A monstrous elephant skull that had fallen in just the right way to create a small cave beneith it. It was sheltered by piles of bones on either side, helping to direct the wind away from the small space. Bluu picked up her pace and went to investigate the inside, finding it peaceful in contrast to the winds that were picking up outside.

With a strip of dripping meat still hanging from the side of his mouth, Kichanga trotted along after Bluu, squinting against the wind.
Though he shared Bluu's wanderlust, he failed to share he tenacious and bold spirit, and thus could not share her love of storms. In fact, as the storm slowly rolled in, Kich grew increasingly tense. He could feel the electricity flowing through him, and his fur ruffled to show it. Oh well, he thought. Soon we'll find shelter, and I'll be much more comfortable when we get there.
Or so he thought, anyway. He didn't know what kind of shelter he expected Bluu to find in an Elephant Graveyard. He probably should've expected something like this. Still, on seeing it, Kich winced a little, and he hesitated outside the cave of bones. "Um... a little grim, don't ya think?" he questioned, already knowing that this was probably a bad line of questioning.

Bluu barked out a laugh as she came from investigating the far corners of the little aclove, her eyes dancing as she eyed the wild dog.
"What, afeard of a bitty pile of bones?" She laughed as she shouldered her way outside, gently pushing him over and closer to the shelter. "Its dead, and there ain't nothing in there that can hurt big creatures like us. Less, you're afraid of some spook coming to haunt you." The suggestion of that had her in gales of rolling cackles as she plopped down to sit just outside. She'd have to come in when the rain started, but the bones kept the wind from chilling her, and from here she could watch the rolling clouds as they gathered and surged towards them.
She cast a glance over her shoulder to see if he'd gone inside, then turned back to the breathtaking view. "You can look for yourself, there ain't nothing there to hurt ya." The storm gave off such a feeling of danger and power... it made Bluu's blood sing in her veins. There was little that could challenge her, and even a lion didn't evoke the same feeling of adrenaline that this storm could. There was even an otherworldly sort of sense from it, more felt mentally and emotionally than physically, that made her hackles rise. Gods, it was a good day to be alive!

Kichanga hung his head in shame at Bluu's mocking laugh, his tail and ears slung low. He wondered what it was about him that he always managed to make a fool of himself... or at least, that's how it felt. It was probably just him and his big mouth. "No, I'm not afraid," he muttered through the corners of his mouth. "Just... a little squicked." He shuddered a bit at the thought of sheltering inside a skull... but then he reminded himself that it was just a dead animal, and he was a predator, and nothing about this should be bothering him at all. So he brushed off Bluu with a wave of his paw even as she shoved him, grimmacing at her forcefulness. "Fine. Fine. I'm going in. Let's go in, already!" And even as Bluu sat, Kich was moving indoors.
Despite his constant reminding himself that there was nothing gross or harmful about the skull, he still inspected every nook and cranny rather vigorously as he clambored in. After all, who knows... there could be a scorpion in here or something. Yeah. That's right. Peering in a low corner, Kich heard a quiet crackle, and suddenly he was struck in the head. He fled the shelter with a yelp, landing just behind Bluu in only a couple bounds. Panting, he glanced back to see what had struck him...
A fragment of bone.
Oh boy, he was going to hear about this one...

Bluu was lost in the display of the storm as it rushed at them, the first patters of raindrops falling on the dusty ground of the graveyard. The hyena female grinned as she rose to her paws to savor the rush of wind past her and through her fur. Ah, it was so exhilarating!
She was distracted from her study by a form suddenly hurtling out of the skull behind her and out into the rain, nearly knocking her off her paws. "Kichanga!" She laughed as she caught sight of him, turning quickly to see what it was he'd been running from. When she saw nothing, she couldn't help but laugh as she turned to look back at him. "What was that? Somethin' bit ya or what?" She couldn't help the cackles that left her, her head bobbing with it.

Kichanga's ears and tail drooped as the rain began to spatter against his head and back. He got the feeling he was going to be feeling this storm for a while, dampness clinging to his fur and an aching in his bones. But he watched Bluu, and was for a moment amused... and even awed... by her delight. She seemed for a moment like a puppy, facing the wind and rain, open and breathless. It seemed so peaceful... a few paces removed from the earthy, sarcastic girl he'd met not long before.
But she was back quickly enough to comment on Kich and his cowardice. He sighed and rubbed his head with his paws. Ugh. He didn't need this. "Yeah, yeah, yeah," he muttered. "I know. I'm an idiot." He turned his eyes skyward for a second, but only for a second, as his face was quickly flooded by rainwater. He blinked it out of his eyes then looked back to the skull. It was seeming more inviting by the second. He sighed. "I'm gonna go take a seat for the show," he told the hyena, then slunk over and settled down under the protective sun-bleached ivory roof.

Bluu couldn't help her rolling laughter as the bedraggled wild dog came back into the shelter of the skull, watching as he settled in the relative dryness.
"What, you thought somethin'd grab ya from behind?" She cackled, her eyes shining. "I'll let you know that ya don't gotta fear nothin' with me around! I'ma match for anything, ya know, and if yer with me, I'll keep ya safe." She did mean it too, and it probably showed in her open and honest expression. She was coming to really like this male, even if he wasn't a hyena. Too bad, really.
"Besides that... nothin' is gonna want to be out in this storm. At the worst, we'd of been chaised out into the rain and that'd be it." She grinned as she turned back to the show the sky was making for them, the rain falling in curtains past the opening of the skull. "Ya should lick yer fur till its dry, Kich. Ya don't wanna catch cold now."

Next to Bluu, Kich slumped down, ears drooping. How he hated it when he made a fool of himself, and he didn't think he'd ever grow accustomed to that hyena cackle being directed towards him. Although, despite this, it seemed to him that he was getting along quite well with her, considering how nervous she'd made him initially. He knew he should remember to be more open minded.
He sighed. "I think images of death just make me nervous," he said. And with good reason. Lone wild dogs weren't meant to survive long. Kichanga sometimes felt that he was living on borrowed time. Yet, he never really lost his confidence that he would always make it. He grinned at Bluu and her promise. "Thanks, I appreciate it."
Then he perked up a bit at her advice. "Oh hey. Good point." In fact, he hadn't even noticed how chilly he was starting to get until now. Stooping over he began to lap meticulously at his scruffy coat. As he did so, he paused briefly to glance back at Bluu. He still couldn't help but wonder why she'd helped him out like this, offered him food and shelter. Sharing wasn't exactly a survival technique outside of a pack. "You didn't have to help me out, you know," he said to her.

The blue hyena smiled as she sat back, her eyes on the storm even as she listened to the wild dog.
"Death will come for ye, whether ya want it or not. Why worry about when or where or how? Its gonna happen, isn't it better to just... enjoy everything? That way, when it does come, ya know you lived as much as ya could." She sounded down-right philosophical, something Bluu normally wasn't. She wasn't usually one for all those mind things, delving into feelings and what not. "Wouldn'tcha rather do that, then die and think about all the time ya wasted being afraid?" She chuckled as she shook her head, her ears flopping.
His last comment pulled her from the view and she turned to look at him, squinting a little. "I know." She said simply, a grin on her face. "I wanted to. Ya needed it, and I had what ya needed, and why shouldn't I then?" Simple, right?

Kichanga stared at the hyena, wide-eyed, shocked by this sudden turn towards intellectualism. It was quite unexpected, which lent it just that much more weight and made it hit the wild dog that much harder. He relaxed a bit as he let it sink in. It was true, too, what she said. Kichanga knew it all too well. And yet, he always had this underlying anxiety under all his optimism. Eventually he nodded, falteringly, and turned back to watch the rain. "Yeah, I know," was all he said on the matter.
But the hyena's response made him grin. He lashed his tail and blinked as a gust of wind brought the rain into his eyes. "If only everybody in the world saw it that way," he said. He wiped his face dry with a paw and watched the sky again. Here was a prime example, yet again. If he'd let his initial fears overtake him, he never would've gotten to spend this time with Bluu and hear her insights. Furthermore... he'd still be hungry. He knew he really ought to listen to his heart more than his head.
"You are genuinely a fascinating individual, Bluu," Kichanga observed as he lay down to watch the rolling storm.

Bluu laughed as she turned back to the view, her hyena's cackle sharp and ear-aching. Typical Bluu, for sure.
"Thank you, Cap'n." She laughed. "Ain't nobody else like ol'Bluu, trust me on that. You ain't bad yerself, ya know. Yer a good kid, when yer not bouncing around like a rabbit at ghosts." She teased him gently as her tail wagged in the dust.
Well, all in all, this had been a satisfactory little adventure. She didn't often get to meet and talk with other species, since hyenas tend to have an over-all bad reputation.
( *insert long time watching storm in silence?* xD )

((Well, at this point we could probably just fade to black. Unless you want to keep going?))
Kichanga blushed hard beneath his beige fur, stooping down low at the hyena's side. "Thanks..." he mumbled, still heartened despite his embarassment at the mixed compliment. At least his first impresson hadn't entirely been one of foolishness.
Leaning up against the side of the skull, the wild dog gazed upon the sky and the rains which only seemed to get harder and harder. "It's gonna be a doozy." Indeed, it was a blessing the two had made such fast friends. They were going to be huddled up in this pile of bones for a while yet.
