"Oh, alright. I can tell that this skull is a place of.. Power and pride. So, Mafa being here is a given. Do any other hyenas live in there with her? Or is it just her?"

She was beginning to realize that this place wasn't so bad after all. It seemed like the hyenas here were actually kind of nice, despite their hatred towards any and all lions. The more bad and upsetting things she heard about them, the more she started to think twice about them. She didn't want to think that way, but she felt as if she had no other choice in the matter.

"I have another question. How do the hyenas here keep each other in line? Do they have certain ranks or something?"

Tukutu gave a grunt at her first question, though he tried to hide it with a quick reply. "She got pups, really, but tha's 'bout it. The rest of us sleep where'ere we want." Or it was more like wherever they could find a comfortable place to sleep. There weren't too many soft places to sleep, so whoever got there first sure was lucky.

"Oh, well, dere's me, Tuk, who's kinda like a co-command, but it's not like e'eryone listens ta me alla the time. Then there's Rasuli, 'member him now. He's da head scout, 'n Mafa puts a lotta trust in that feller. But keepin' ahselves in line...not really. We kinda do what we want, when we want, 's long as there isn't too much fightin'. Mafa dun like it when we can't work together, see, jus' in case those lions build their ranks up again."

Tukutu motioned for Kai to follow him, for he was going to show her one more important place that she would need to know if she wanted to survive here.

Kailasa merely nodded this time, deciding not to say anything. It seemed like what Tuk had just said had affected him somehow, so she had decided it was best to just not say anything about it. She listened to his words carefully, making mental notes of it all.

"Rasuli..." she whispered to herself, making sure to remember that name. If he was the head scout, than he must of been important, as Tuk had said that Mafa put a whole lot of trust in him. Maybe, just maybe, she could gain that much trust with Mafa too. It wouldn't be easy though...

Continuing to follow him, Kai looked around. It all pretty much looked the same with bones lying everywhere. No hyenas were in sight, and everything was just pretty quiet in general. It was kind of.. Peaceful.

Tuk had managed to remember just where he was going, and gave out a pleased grunt when he saw what he was looking for. He had led them out of the main part of the graveyard, out to where little bits of grass grew, and birds flew. It was near the edge of the Southlands, but still inside the pack's territory.

"And 'ere is our watering 'ole," he said proudly. It wasn't very large, only enough for the pack, and even then they depended on it a little too much. It was oddly clean, though, as if whoever was here last made sure to keep all bones and dead grass away from the water's edge. "It's kinna far from tha pack, but it's the closest one we got, and tha cleanest."

He took a moment to pause, trying to think if there was anything else to mention to her. "Hmmm...Ah guess yer set unless ya got more'vem questions. Just let Mafa know I'm the one who letcha in. You'll know 'er when ya see her. Big 'yena, she carries it 'round her like a prize."

Kai looked at the clear water. Not a speck of dirt or a hint of bone was floating in it. Obviously, these hyenas took this watering hole as a great prize and possession to them, so keeping it tidy and clean was definitely a big thing here. At least they were clean about something, which made the female hyena giggle and smile some.

She then turned her head and looked at Tuk. "Thank you for showing me around. I should like it here, once I get to know some of the other hyenas and just how things actually work. I hope to meet Mafa really soon. I do have one really quick question though. What type of.. Rank.. Or position will I be given? Or will I just be a normal hyena who frolics around?"

She was still a little confused on that. She could understand that there were hunters and scouts, but what would that make her?

"Aaah, yeees...." He stared at her for quite a while, even walking around her. He judged her up, what her strengths and weaknesses looked like, what her personality might fit best in, and also, most important, how her real physical strength measured up to the rest of the pack. She wasn't the worst he'd seen, but she certainly wasn't the best.

"Ah's reckon that yew'd go best with the scouts," he determined, catching her eye to make sure that she was okay with it. "Yah mostly jus' keep an eye on tha borders and make sure that none of them lions are tryin' ta sneak in. Quite simple, relleh. Yah might be asked to help hunt once in a while, but that's it." He waved his paw around like it was nothing.

"Yeh just make sure ye find me if'n somethin's a matter, alright?" He wanted to make sure she fit in well, make sure she was a good recruit. If she was, fantastic. Another mark on his plus board.

"A scout.. Got it! I'll prove to this pack that even a slight lion-lover, like myself, can be loyal to a pack of hyenas, even if they extremely dislike lions themselves. I know I can do it, as long as I keep trying and don't give up."

Kai smiled happily, looking back at the watering hole. She saw her reflection in it, the water rippling slightly. Her silver eyes blinked in a graceful manner, and she realized just then what it meant to be a hyena, as well as look like one. She really hoped she would fit in here.

"Alright. Thank you, Tukutu. I'll make sure to keep myself with the flow here. If I need anything, I'll go directly to you. Promise." She smiled again and looked up at Tuk. This was going to be a very interesting turning point in her life.

"Aaah, might want ta keep tha lion thing ter yeself. Mafa's not ah big fan of them lions," he advised her, though, she should note, that he didn't tell her to change her ways. He thought that free thought was needed in a pack, perhaps it could help bring in new ideas too.

He gave her a nod before turning back to the graveyard, retuning to his shift of...staring at things. It had been a good and productive day, though, and he was sure that Mafa would find it to be too, once she found out. "Take care, 'n dun let the others get under yah skin, like ah said!"

His tail swished behind him as he walked back, letting Kailasia do as she pleased for the moment. He didn't care, as long as she stuck around, and besides, maybe she was thirsty. He was hungry for a nice juicy zebra flank, ahdn was on the hunt to see if any foolish hyena ate in the open. Because he was just hungry enough, he was going to take it!

Kai did indeed note how Tuk hadn't said a thing about her not changing her mind about lions. This was the first time she had actually been motivated to think freely since she had first taken step in these dying lands, and it was now the one thing that would keep her spirit free from the wrath of some of the more persistent hyenas. She smiled and swished her tail as the male hyena turned to go back to his duty.

The female juve herself turned around to face the pool of water once more, looking down in. She saw her grey face reflecting in it, a pair of silver eyes looking back up at her. She couldn't help but to smile even more so.

"Maybe.. Just maybe.. This will be the best decision of my life, eh Kai?"

With that said, she took a quick mouthful of water, swallowed it down, turned around, and started to pad back to the Graveyard, very excited to meet some of the other hyenas that lived here.

"Yes.. It just may be."
