"Nervous? Yeah, a little," Riza admitted, shrugging her shoulders as she continued to munch on her danish, though she was careful not to let any fall onto her clothing. When she was finished, she wiped her hands on her napkin and continued to sip her hot chocolate, which wasn't as hot as it had been initially. "I bet everyone's nervous before their first contest, though," she went on after a while, though she found that the more that she looked at the clock, the more her anxiety seemed to melt away only to be replaced by confidence. Even if she didn't win, she knew she was going to have a great time, and learn a lot from her experience, as well.

"We'd better hurry," she said, pointing out the time to Amy. "I mean, we're already registered but I bet they still want us to sign in when we arrive at the hall." Again she wondered if Crenu was already there, and that Kenneth fellow, as well. She also wondered if Fantina was there already, and she found that she couldn't wait to show off her skills to the Sinnoh gym leader and contest diva.

Katie's unease didn't diminish as the tall, blonde woman came nearer, and there was something unsettling about that smile, too. "One on one is fine," she said, her voice still oddly confident despite how nervous she suddenly felt. She recalled Kord into his poke ball, taking a deep breath as she place it back on her belt and took Genki's up in her hand. 'Don't let me down, buddy, I think we're in for a tough fight here,' she thought, tossing the sphere. "Let's go, Genki!"

The Monferno appeared in a flash of white light and flame, dancing from foot to foot as he surveyed the woman in front of him. The Playful Pokemon stopped dancing long enough to study her, and he looked back at Katie, his face mirroring her unease. Katie smiled at him, and nodded, an the Monferno whirled around to face Mai, his fists raised up high as he prepared for battle.

There wasn't much that could be done about that Giga Drain, and Roxanne knew it, though she was thankful that the Sandstorm's effects would serve as a great buffer against the special attack. The greenish orbs not only caused pain to the Rock Snake but stole some of his health too, but again, Roxanne didn't appear to be worried. Even recharging itself with some of the stolen energy with Giga Drain couldn't fully counter the damaging effects of the Sandstorm, and those Rock Tombs and Rock Throws had to have been hurting, especially after Ghos had been blasted by that Screech.

Regardless, Roxanne knew her Onix didn't have much left to give, as even the boosted defense from the Sandstorm couldn't take away his weakness to grass-type moves. "Pound him with a Rock Throw," the gym leader commanded, pointing at the ghost. Onix roared in agreement and sent another barrage of rocks raining down towards the Gastly.

Amy nodded along with Riza, picking at her muffin but ultimately deciding that she shouldn't have gotten something so filling. The more the sky darkened, the more nervous the girl seemed to get, despite how little she seemed to show it.

"Y-yeah," Amy agreed, getting up. After all of their business had been taken of and their food had been paid for, she headed to the Contest Hall, which was thankfully right near the cafe. The trainer waited for Riza before she signed in and flashed her Contest Pass, heading immediately for the changing room.

She slipped into a little booth and placed her large bag down. "Now or never, Amy..." the girl muttered as she produced the box that held her contest outfit. Her hands trembled some as she dressed, and her head began to thunder.

Stop it, she thought angrily, tightening the cloth around her waist. We've come this far. No turning back now. She ran a comb carefully through her hair, making sure it was smooth, and slowly exited the booth after collecting her Pokemon.

"I guess we wait in there," Amy murmured to no one in particular, staring at the door leading to a waiting room. To be honest, she wanted to wait for Riza before she went in there.

"Good idea, Mag." Ryka responded to Mag's finishing the match. She wandered over to her opponent trainer and offered her hand to shake. "Good match! Especially you, Sunfire." She pat the Flareon on the head, noting how warm his fur was, before he was recalled.

Blitz shook off the remaining electricity on his fur and hobbled over to his trainer. He was scratched up quite a bit, and would definitely need a trip to the Pokemon Center, but he was a bit better off than his opponent. Ryka bent down to pick up the Pikachu, scratching him behind the ears as she spoke.

"There's my little fighter! You did wonderful. Do you feel ready for the contest?" He replied with a weak nod. With a smile, Ryka placed her forehead against his and nuzzled his nose. "We'll do great! You deserve a good rest, Blitz. You don't mind if we go back to the Pokemon Center, do you Mag?" She cradled Blitz in her arms like an infant, and she and Mag began to walk back over the bridge towards Cerulean.

Jake frowned when he heard Roark's next command, and he watched with irritation as the Shieldon charged directly through the stream of water. This time Jake noticed how the water was easily deflected by the large plate covering its face, and he resisted the urge to slap himself in the forehead. Of course, it's so obvious right now. It's even right there in its name - Shieldon. He shook his head, and thrust his hand forward. "Bibarel, jump up and over him, and hit him from behind! His back is his weak point!"

Bibarel, a little surprised by this revelation, nodded in agreement and darted forward, her eyes narrowed into little slits as she charged towards the oncoming Shieldon. She ignored the painful sensation of the Sandstorm tearing at her body as she jumped over the Shieldon, once again filling her mouth with cold water as she turned and blasted another jet at her target's back, this time from a much closer range.

Mai continued to smile even as the girl recalled her Elekid and sent out an oddly-familiar monkey in its place, and she quickly checked the data bank to find that it was a Monferno, and the evolved form of the Chimchar Rowan had shown them the day of the seminar. She glanced back up at the Fire and Fighting-type, pretending to ponder her choice as to what to send out to combat it. Finally, she chose her newly-acquired Misdreavus, deciding that it would be a good first battle for the two of them. "Go, Siren," she said quietly, releasing the Ghost-type with a flick of her wrist.

Siren floated in front of her new trainer, eying her opponents before turning to look back at Mai. Mai simply nodded, and looked over to Katie. "Go ahead and make the first move," she said, the Misdreavus nodding in quiet agreement.

Leon was also aware that Ghos would not be able to keep it up, and he was now realising that he should've just used Giga Drain another time or two. "Try to avoid it, Ghos," Leon called to his Pokémon, but to no avail. As refreshing as that last Giga Drain had been, the sandstorm was still pounding him and it was hurting worse as time went on. There were suddenly rock everywhere and Ghos just couldn't escape all of them, getting caught underneath a particularly big one.

The Gas Pokémon began to float weakly up, the gas that formed him body spreading and making it harder and harder to see him. The poor thing was barely a few inches off of the ground, and Leon realised that he was definitely out for the count. The Ghost-type trainer pulled out Ghos' PokéBall and recalled him, quickly swapping it for Muuma's and releasing her onto the battlefield.

"Muuma, hit it with a Psybeam attack!" Leon wasn't even going to take a chance now. Psybeam had basically perfect accuracy, and Muuma's level was bound to be at least a few higher than Roxanne's Onix. Even with boosted Defense, he was fairly sure that the hits from both Giga Drains would have weakened it enough to be pretty vulnerable to this attack. And, if he happened to be wrong, there was also a chance that it would get Confused, so it seemed a pretty safe bet to him.

Zii looks over to his trainer, Laichi with hesitation. He had a really bad loss against the Onix. No matter what Laichi can say or do, he feels he let her down. Laichi has never been known to depend on anybody else for training. From slashing hidden spikes in the ground, to dodging flying 'pokey balls' while running through the forests; Laichi and Zii have always taught each other through their many failures, and sometime successes.

Laichi is no idiot. She knows Zii is down due to that loss. Laichi on the other hand has her parents to brighten her back up; Zii does not. Laichi gave Zii a pat on the back after they left North Petalburg a few hours ago. This pat was to tell Zii there is change in the air. Shortly after that, she explained to Zii she wants to battle every trainer on the road from North to South. This way both of them can understand their own weaknesses.

As Zii agrees to this a couple of boys come over a small hill. Both of them stop and look to Laichi and Zii as if something they did wrong has just been found out. The two boys whisper to each other, and after a few nods they begin approaching Laichi and Zii.

"Hey kid..." One boy says and was interrupted by Laichi.

"Names Laichi, call me kid again and I knock you into next month." Laichi mentions nonchalantly, her hands still in her pockets.

"Uh huh... Laichi. You have a nice Zangoose there..." The other boy says right when he gets interrupted by Laichi.

"His names Zii, what do you guys want? Do you want to battle, because we've been asking for one since we left the city." Laichi interrupts again.

The two boys do not know what to say about this. They have never met anyone so rude to travelers. They do not understand how someone can be so mean to another person.

"Whatever, no. We were just robbed by a suspicious woman. She ran this way. Have you seen her?" One of the boys ask.

Laichi and Zii look to each other and shrug their shoulders. They did not see anybody else on the road.

"No, what did she look like; I'll keep an eye out for her."

The boys smile and nod in agreement, "The woman is wearing a black mask with a small white X over it. It's one of those medical masks old people wear when they are sick. She stole our medicines and poppins."

"Sooo, she left your pokemon?"

The two boys nod in sync in agreement that the woman did not take their pokemon.

"I don't get the point of why you are worried then. You could always buy more medicines and poppins."

"Well, we thought that was pretty odd too. But regardless the woman stole something from us, and we want it back." The boys stated.

Laichi breaths in and lets out a long sigh of hesitation.

"Okay, well I already agreed to help you if we see her. So I'll keep my word. Where will I find you?" Laichi asks.

The boys walk over the hill they came from guiding Laichi over it. Behind the hill is a small camp; Only one tent stands. The boys must like sleeping with other people. Laichi hates that.

"What will I get if I do get your stuff back?"

The boys a bit hesitant, "I guess we could give you some medicine from our pack, there was plenty of it."

"Hmm, that sounds good. But, I'd prefer a no hold back fight between your pokemon and Zii. Don't hold your punches or attacks just because we did something nice. Bring the worst and I'll bring the best."

The two boys are knocked back a bit by the proposition. For some strange reason one of the boys is intimidated by Laichi; The other boy is smitten. He holds a great poker face though, so Laichi did not see it.

"Fine, that is a deal. You're either a hard trainer or you believe in your pokemon to a dangerous amount. But yes, we can agree to that."

Laichi and one of the boys shake on the agreement and Laichi hops up the hill to look out over the horizon. She begins thinking and points to a couple of larger hills near a small lake. Laichi bends over as well as Zii. They plant their feet, and as one of the boys begin to inquire on what they are doing both Zii and Laichi shoot forward into a fast run.

Riza was practically skipping with each step she took, though the fact that there were still people lined up to get inside the Contest Hall suddenly reminded her that she would be out there, all alone and in front of thousands of fans. 'No,' she told herself as she neatly signed her name, and allowed for the receptionist to verify her Contest Pass. 'I won't be alone, because I'll have my Pokemon.' This thought seemed to make her feel better, so she hung on to it as she and Amy headed into the dressing room for the female coordinators. She quickly glanced around to study her competition, but she was far too excited to really pay that much attention.

She headed over to the vanity and touched up her makeup while she waited for Amy to finish dressing. It didn't take very long, as she hadn't that much on to begin with, and she had just finished running a brush through her hair when she spotted her bespectacled young friend emerge from the dressing room. She smiled, and turned to wave at the younger girl, impressed by her choice of outfit for the contest. "Wow Amy, you look great," she said, nodding as she tucked her things back into her bag and stuffed them into a locker. She kept her phone carefully tucked into one of the pockets of her skirt, and she adjusted her belt of poke balls, suddenly wondering if she looked more like a trainer than a coordinator. 'Perhaps I should have gotten a costume,' she thought, though once she looked at herself in the mirror again, she banished the thought. She looked quite good, and after all the point was to show off her Pokemon, not her.

"I think this is it," she agreed, stepping into the waiting room and having a look around. There was a large screen TV in the center of the room, presumably for the other contestants to watch while they waited their turns. Riza looked around for Crenu, but she didn't see anyone that resembled him that closely. The nearest match was a tall blonde fellow wearing what might have been the sparkliest outfit in the entire room, but Riza doubted that Crenu would ever be caught dead in such attire.
* * * * *
Katie frowned when she saw the ghost-type appear, as she knew Genki's normal and fighting-type moves would be utterly useless, which kinda sucked seeing as how good his Mach Punch was becoming. 'I guess we'll just have to stick with fire,' the orange-haired girl thought, looking over at Mai. She seemed quite calm and confident, and this worried Katie. "Uh, thanks," she said, not sure she liked the idea of having the first move. "My name's Katie, by the way," she added before looking to Genki. "Lead off with Flame Wheel," she told the Playful Pokemon, deciding she wasn't going to let the woman's calm demeanor unnerve her.

The Monferno gave a nod and began to rush forward, the flame on his tail quickly spreading out to encompass his whole body, and soon he was spiraling towards the Misdreavus like a fiery comet.
* * * * *
Roxanne didn't even have a chance to enjoy her win over the Gastly, as the next thing she knew the tired Ghos had been recalled, and was promptly replaced by a Pokemon that Roxanne had only encountered once before. The Misdreavus' Psybeam sped through the air and slammed into the massive Rock Snake. It let out a weak roar and began to topple, but before he could hit the ground, Roxanne recalled him. "Excellent work, Onix," the gym leader smiled as she switched poke balls. "I can see that your Misdreavus is a tough one," she added, grinning across the sandy battlefield at Leon. "But we're not going down easy!"

The red and white sphere was thrown, and Roxanne's last and signature Pokemon appeared on the field. It was, of course, her Nosepass, and it flailed its arms around to show it was ready for a fight. Roxanne knew there wasn't a lot of options against a ghost-type like Muuma, and that keeping up that Sandstorm was her key to staying alive. "Start off with Rock Tomb," she called, and Nosepass quickly obliged by sending a series of stone spikes jutting up from the ground around the Misdreavus, which would hopefully hinder her ability to move.

((Kinda funny how I am battling two different Misdreavus, innit? x3))

"Thanks," Amy smiled, her eyes bright as they took in Riza's appearance. "You look really pretty, too!" Her nerves began to settle, like a storm finally calming, and she felt slightly relieved.

She filed into the waiting room after Riza, glancing around at the other coordinators before she sat down. I can't believe this is actually happening... the girl thought, excited for the contest to actually begin. She glanced at the Pokeballs in her hand, wondering why she had brought Marshall. I wonder if I'm even allowed to use him in a battle... But she quickly chastised herself for the thought; Marshall was with her because she wouldn't dare to leave one of her Pokemon behind and that was that.

"I wonder who we'll battle..." Amy murmured, glancing at the other waiting coordinators once more.

Mitsu looked over at Flannery as she walked in, looking visibly shaken and unsure. Then again, how else was she supposed to feel seeing Mike? The purple haired girl gave the fiery redhead a small, sheepish wave. The two had never been on extremely friendly terms, it was always a bit awkward being around her. Mitsu had disliked the Gym Leader after finding out that she was the girl who owned Mike's heart. Of course, they eventually formed an uneasy friendship after all was said and through. It seems so silly to be upset over something so small as a crush at this point, but Mitsu still couldn't help but feel like she didn't belong. She'd never been fond of Lavaridge anyways.

"Nice to see you again Flannery, but I think I'll step out too," she said quickly before looking down to Mike. Her sympathy went to him and not the Gym Leader before her. I hope you're okay Mike. don't do anything. . .crazy.

Mitsu exited the gym, relieved to escape the pounding heat. She spotted Kilik nearby, glad to see someone she could feel comfortable around. She plopped down onto the bench, sitting side by side to the tall boy though she was facing the opposite way of the boy. There was a small, quiet smile that rested on her lips, as she leaned backwards to make eye contact with him. "Hey, there," she said quietly, slipping her hand through his, lacing their fingers together. "You okay?"

Crenu had been sitting on one of the far sides of the waiting room, keeping completely to himself as he ignored Kenneth and the other contestants who were spilling into the room now. Slowly more and more opponents showed up, a lot more than Crenu had originally thought he'd encounter. "Can't be helped." He said quietly, more to himself than anything. "There's no ribbon requirement for this contest, it's only natural it would have more participants than the higher level contests." When he looked up to see what Ken was up to, the flamboyant man was gone again, maybe he had gone to get a good seat or something, who knows. But he wasn't here now and that was the important thing. "...come on out, get the nerves out now so they don't become an issue when it actually matters." Crenu unclipped one of the pokeballs from his belt and opened it up, the red and white orb spilling out light that soon took the form of a small, when compared to him anyway, white pokemon which floated about with dress swaying as if blown by the wind. Froslass looked at Crenu and happily nodded, though once she looked around and noticed all the other people and pokemon she suddenly started feeling very very tiny. Both of her hands brought up and bunched together over her eyes, her sleeves hid her face as she started to sink into the ground. "I knew you'd get like this. Better get over it soon, curtain time is near and there'll be even more people than this watching once we're on stage. With this many competitors, you'll really have to put our training to good use if we hope to stand out above the competition. I've got someone for the battles so don't worry about fighting today Froslass, just focus on being the most magnificent pokemon you can be. Trust me, I wouldn't have picked you if I didn't know I could win it with you." Hearing this seemed to do Froslass some good as she had risen out of the ground and had moved her hands from her eyes, though she was still hiding most of her face. Crenu decided it was best to leave her be so that she may work out her nerves on her own, if she didn't work through it on her own then courage itself would lose it's purpose. Scanning the room one more time to see if Ken had indeed vanished from the room, one could only hope, his eyes came to a dead stop on a familiar raven haired beauty. Coming down with a serious case of tunnel vision Crenu got up and started walking towards her, Froslass following close behind her trainer. Once she noticed that the girl Crenu was approaching was the kind girl from before Froslass perked right up and passed through Crenu, floating right up to Riza with a happy expression on her face. Crenu arrived seconds later with a very cold chill running through his body caused by Froslass's impatience. "Nice hair."

"A Shuckle?" Carlos said curiously as he looked back in the direction of the thug. "My my, I think you may have killed him if that's the case." He said jokingly as he pushed the sombrero up a bit revealing his eyes, knowing now that everyone was safe and there were no more enemies his serious demeanor quickly vanished. It sounded like he missed quite the show for his tardiness. "My apologies for not being here earlier, though by the sounds of it I wouldn't have made any difference. Seems our special agent friend here is very reliable." Carlos smiled when he saw Train's face lighten up a bit as she loosened her grip on what looked like a grateful pikachu. "Well then, shall we go?" Carlos said as he reached into his poncho, pulling out a rather funny looking cactus shaped flash light. Even the beam of light was shaped like a saguaro, but it was bright and effective none the less. "Shall I take lead on this one?" He asked lightly, taking a couple of steps towards the alley that Train's pokemon were hiding in.

"Thank you." Mike said softly to his friends. "Yes...we must be strong. Vigilant. Composed." The opening of a door across the gym caused him to jump. He could here soft, sweet footsteps. They echoed. Tip. Tip. Tip.

Tip.

Tip.
Tip.
Tip.
Tip.

Her pace was uneven. Uncertain. Typical of her, yet...even more shaken. She was frightened, unnerved. As she had every right to be. Mike waited in agony as she neared, his nervous tension building up inside of him as he kept himself still. No shaking, no stirring. She musn't see us as unstable. Her footsteps became silent and Mike braced himself for the horribly sweet melody that was about to take place.

Flannery's gentle, flustered voice stuck him like a blade. Mike clutched his chest as his heart picked up pace. That he would hear it again when he knew that he had no right, it made him feel ill. "Oh," Mike's voice rumbled from underneath his hood. His breath disturbed the uniform flow of smoke rising from his forehead. "You know me!" He choked out a laugh as he stood up. His legs shook. "Lots of friends! Always running about! Just like when we were kids! You, me, and Keegan!" He grabbed the sides of his hood and peered out from it, stealing the occasional glance of the girl who held his heart in a padded vice. Mike bobbed back and forth, slowly creeping closer to his love. "Which is why I am here, my sweet." He stepped cautiously as if she was a timid baby Stantler; sweet, innocent and easily startled.

Kilik and Mitsu had gone outside. "Better that way, perhaps? It's a bit crowded in here anyway." Mike walked up to Flannery, his entire body quivering in both joy and terror. He lifted his head and studied her. She was just as beautiful in her simple elegance as he saw her before. He could not take it any longer. He tore off his hood. Nothing dared disrupt his vision of that which he loved most.

Mike looked up into Flannery's eyes, his own showing a sort of serenity. His lips trembled into a small smile. "Through fire and death I return to you, my love." He brushed a wayward bang from his eye with a shaking hand.
------

Sasha stepped back as Flannery entered the room. Her usual bouncy attitude had been subdued by the strong silence of the moment. She stepped closer to Kasiya and reached for her hand, only then noticing the redness of her palms. "Oh, mon coup de foudre peu!" she whispered. "We must get z'hat f'eexed up!" Sasha lightly pressed against Kasiya's back and motioned for the two to leave. "Let us go get you a burn heal."

The air is still warm, and the breeze is still strong. This is a good day for a hunt, thinks Laichi and Zii. They run as fast as they can, as if racing toward the hill which Laichi has targeted. Laichi understands if you are a thief you must get as far away as possible as quick as possible. But, even if you are a fast runner, you can not run forever. You must make rest. This is why Laichi has chosen that target hill about a mile away. It's out of the range a normal person can reach, and not just anybody is willing to go over the hills and the tall grass; Except for the desperate, or lost. This thief is not lost.

Zii has become faster than Laichi over the past few days so it's not a surprise that he hops over the hill first to see a small boat. He jumps and lands directly into the boat. With some careful balancing Zii does not fall over. He gives a growl as the target is in his sights.

Laichi slides down the hillside right when the thief is found by Zii. The girl eeps and jumps back to run directly into Laichi. With a quick slide of her foot Laichi trips the thief and laughs as the girl thuds as she falls on her side.

"Wha....what in the name of all is good are you two persons doing!?" The thief screams while rubbing mud off her elbows.

"We are catching a thief who stole some kid's medicine!" Laichi replies while grabbing the thief's shirt and pulling it with the thief closer to her face.

"Hey now!? How do you know I am that thief? I believe I am innocent." The thief mentions while pushing Laichi back.

This girl is dressed in tight black pants with a tight white t-shirt on. She wears a thin see-through black vest which has some mesh on the sides. Over her mouth is a medical mask, black with a white x across it.

"Because you are a girl, who's wearing a black medical mask with an X across it. You have a small bag in your boat which Zii now possesses. You are at the correct range and location I would be if I was running away as a thief, and this river is suspiciously hidden from the road, because I did not see it before! Zii, by the way lucky landing! Hahaha!" Laichi lists out while getting closer and closer to the woman's face.

"That is all and good miss, but I am no girl." The girl says as she points to her pelvis area.

"....ehhh!?" Laichi coughs while backing up.

"Yes, you have been mistaken." The boy now explains.

"Well you look like a chick, you talk like a chick, guess what, to your victims eyes you are a chick. Now give us the boys items back and I will be on my way."

"How dare you insult me in such a rude manner! ...and you already have the medicine, as I point out about what your Zangoose is holding. Now, be on your way, I'm quite tired."

Laichi snaps, and with one quick swoop attempts to kick the guy in between his legs. Without hesitation the guy jumps back and slides his leg to meet Laichi's, only to continue his movement; Laichi loses her balance and splits her legs apart. Luckily for Laichi she's good at this.

"Not bad, man. Now you ticked me off!" Laichi explains.

"No no no, I believe you have ticked me off. Lets end this." the boy says while whipping out a pokeball.

The pokeball bounces off Laichi's forehead and glows as Laichi is struck with a paralyzing light. She screams a bit, but hides the short pain. The pokeball closes and Laichi remains with a twitching eyebrow and an annoyance level above what anyone has ever done. Laichi begins to scream cusses at the boy, only to notice he is gone.

Zii points to the water, and Laichi screams insults to the coward for running away. The boy sits under the water with a air tank connected to his mouth. He chuckles and waits.

Jett’s so lucky… Scarlet thought. I don’t even have anyone to battle… He sat there with his arms folded, staring with interest down the path Jett went down. He was going to beat up Falkner, and that was an opportunity Scarlet could take to figure out exactly how the trainer’s pokemon worked. Then he saw something out of his peripheral vision… A blond kid with pokeballs.

!

“HEY. HEY. YOU! GUY THERE!” Without either realizing or caring about the fact that there was an absurdly long fall underneath, or that he probably seemed like an obnoxious psychopath, he dashed down one of the planks, spinning on his heel to face the trainer at the left. “YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE OF ANY TRAINER HERE, RIGHT!? ME AND MY QUILAVA WANT TO FIGHT!”

Only Cindy didn’t want to fight. She didn’t want to leave the elevator. Hell, she found out Jett could fly when he waltzed off along seemingly open air, and now her trainer was being nuts and dashing off along a path with very little if any support. She stared over at Scarlet, furiously shaking her head.

“… oh. … right. Heights… … M-Me and my Gastly would like to fight…?” Scarlet tapped the button to the pokeball at his side, releasing a violet haze of death and hate and destruction and hate, a haze that eventually formed Terumi.

The Gastly emerged with his eyelids half lowered. He was the exact opposite of thrilled at being released. After all, he had literally never won a battle, a mainly because he had terrible moves, a fact that he really couldn’t comprehend. But hey, maybe the third time was the charm. If not, he could always cloak himself over Scarlet’s head until he keeled over and died, so there was that.

With a sigh, he nodded toward his trainer, letting him know that he was still with him, before glancing back at the bird keeper, his blank expression changing to one of pure malice.

Bird Keeper Abe watched the new challenger blatantly ignore him and his fellow trainers, heading straight for Falkner. I hope he'll learn from his mistakes, the blonde boy thought with a snort.

He vaguely registered a fiery redhead demanding a battle before getting into an arguement with his Quilava. If I didn't have a dime for every Quilava that comes in here... but never any of the Bayleefs... Abe silently drew his Pokeball, tossing it skillfully into the air. He briefly admired the way it seemed to take flight like one of the many majestic bird pokemon before his very own majestic bird emerged from its tiny prison to land neatly on the plank below.

"So you want a one on one, eh?" Abe demanded, his voice far too soft for someone with eyes as sharp as his. "You're on, ginger! You'll never understand the grace of Flying-types...!" The Natu gazed blankly at the malicious Gastly, before his head canted to the right.

"You first."

Figures she'd still have some snarky reply waiting in the wings, Keegan thought, waiting patiently for the redheaded female to figure out what she was doing. It was easy to see that she was hesitant, though he really couldn't blame her. He had no idea how she'd even react just to seeing him again, but despite the constant thoughts swirling around in his head, he remained quiet and simply walked by her side, feeling like an unofficial escort of sorts. Kilik and Mitsu had taken off outside, though Keegan wasn't really surprised by it as few could tolerate the scorching temperatures of Lavaridge itself, nevermind the inside of Flannery's gym. It seemed that Kasiya and Sasha planned to give the couple some privacy as well, and after a moment of standing there awkwardly Keegan decided that it was probably the best for him to take a hike, as well.

Those two always did manage to make me feel like a third wheel, even if they didn't mean to, he thought dully as he walked over to the actual battle arena of the gym. One quick glance at the floor told him that a battle had gone on here not too long ago, as Camerupt's footprints were still fairly fresh on the ground. Keegan smiled at the memory of his own battle against Flannery, and he sat down in the small white circle in the center of the battlefield, wincing a little. Perhaps after today he'd take the time to rest up and actually let his broken rib start to heal? He smirked at the thought, knowing himself all to well. He figured he'd get somewhat roughed up when they took on Team Magma, but he was hoping to come out of it at least under his own power. He lied back on the floor and stared up at the hazy ceiling, carefully putting his arms beneath his head like a makeshift pillow, closing his eyes as he waited. A moment or so later he heard the sound of one of his PokeBalls opening, and the quiet hissing in his ear was more than enough of a hint as to who it was that had escaped. "Loki," the redhead muttered quietly, and the Arbok nodded happily at the recognition. He soon found the temperature of the gym to his liking and he flopped down on the ground beside his trainer. Keegan sighed, wanting nothing more than to get this whole thing over with.

Miharu nodded slowly at the mention of Cherrygrove City. "Yeah, it's my hometown," she answered, watching the young Murkrow as he happily flew about. He seemed a lot more confident since the first time Miharu had seen him, and she wondered if his excellent performance in Bugsy's gym had anything to do with it. He also seemed to be a big bigger than before as well, but that was to be expected, seeing as he was so young. "I don't really wanna go home, though," she muttered to herself, toying with the ends of her green hair as she walked.

She looked over at Sam, who was busily watching Devlin flutter about. "Do you think we'll run into any more battles today?" she asked quietly, not sure if she really felt up to battling any more trainers. She would accept if someone challenged her, but she wasn't going to go out of her way to find people who wanted to fight.

Falkner had been tending to his Pidgeot when he heard the doors to the gym open, and he stood up, watching as a pair of trainers walked forward into the darkness and stand on the wooden panel. The blue-haired Gym Leader smirked as he watched the two boys' reactions to suddenly being lifted up into the sky. He himself had never actually used the lift, as he preferred to Fly up here on the backs of his Pokemon. He stroked the Pidgeot's feathers and carefully eyed the boys as they reached the top, quite aware of just how serious the one was as he walked right up to him, not even hesitating for a second before issuing his challenge.

"All right," Falkner answered, pushing his bangs out of his eyes. "As the Leader of the Violet City Pokemon Gym, I have no choice but to accept your challenge. Two Pokemon each, one on one. The first to defeat the other trainer's Pokemon wins, and if that happens to be you, Jett Forrest, then you shall be awarded with the Violet Gym's coveted Zephyr Badge. Do you understand?" he asked, already in the process of releasing his first Pokemon; a Spearow. The small bird scratched the ground with his sharp claws and let out a loud squawk, narrowing his beady little eyes at Jett dauntingly.
