Kasiya couldn't help but feel a little odd sneaking around the side of the gym, but she did so without a word, doing her best to try not to trip and fall flat on her face. She focused on where her feet were going and simply followed along in line, hardly even noticing that Keegan was ushering them into the Lavaridge gym until the doors had closed and locked behind them. Almost immediately the heat felt overwhelming, but she did her best to pretend it didn't bother her. "We're meeting Flannery?" she mumbled to herself, wondering if she'd missed that part somewhere along the line, but it didn't matter, as they were in Lavaridge now and one step closer to their ultimate destination.
She looked over at Sasha as she was trying to comfort Mike, and nodded, dropping to the floor by her friend's side and only vaguely aware of the fact that Keegan had gone in to talk to the fiery gym leader first. She didn't like the fact that Mike's cloak was smoldering dangerously due to the heat pouring off him, and she reached out and put a hand on his shoulder, forcing herself not to wince as the heat scalded her skin. "You've got to try and stay calm," she told him in a gentle voice. "I know it's asking a lot, especially with everything the way it is now, but you've got to try, okay?" She offered her friend a kind smile. "We're all here now, and we're going to get through this, one moment at a time." She pulled her hand back, not daring to look at it even though it felt as though she'd just placed her hand on the element of a hot stove. She imagined it to be bright red and possibly blistering in a few places, but she let on like it hadn't bothered her, knowing that she needed to be strong for Mike. I promised him I would be, she thought, looking expectantly at the door to Flannery's office.
=-=-=-=-= "Oh, thank you," Jake said politely as a Geodude had bounced over to his side and tugged on his pant leg to get his attention. He gratefully accepted the goggles, adjusting the strap as he watched Bibarel smack her tail against the rocky ground in annoyance. "Hang tough, Bibarel," he called, wincing a bit as the sands stung his exposed face. "This is a good chance for you to prove that you're as tough as you say you are!" Bibarel snorted in reply, now curling her tail up to deflect some of the sand from her face.
I don't like using the same move over and over again, but we have no choice right now, Jake thought, really not enjoying the fact that there was now sand in his hair. "Water Gun again," he called. Deciding it best to pretend she wasn't being hurt by the sand, Bibarel shot forward, once again gathering a good amount of water within her cheeks. Doing her best to avoid the rocks, she jumped up and let the blast of water go, very much enjoying the fact that she was being given this chance to prove herself.
=-=-=-=-= Flannery had totally spaced out while she'd been sitting there waiting, so much in fact that she had actually dozed off. A knock at her door jolted her awake and she nearly fell out of her chair as she came back to her senses. "I know that knock," she mumbled sleepily, rubbing her eyes, though she wasn't entirely sure what he would be doing here. She swiveled around in her chair as Keegan opened the door and came inside. "You don't need to say 'knock, knock' if you've already knocked," she said, attempting to be funny, but failing quite miserably. She stuck her thumbs through the belt loops of her jeans and eyed the other redhead carefully, blinking a bit in surprise when Keegan said 'we'. "We?" she repeated, inching forward a bit, and sure enough, the muffled sounds of other voices could soon be heard through the door. Who all did he bring with him? she thought, still straining to listen, though the only voice she recognized was Mike's.
"Okay, I'm ready, I think," she said, her confidence still a little rocky from her loss earlier in the day. "Or not. Wait." She held up both hands and closed her eyes, being sure to take deep breaths to try and slow her racing heart. "Kay. I'm good. Honest," she added, noting the skeptical look on Keegan's face. "You go first though," she said, pushing him towards the door and ducking behind him, though she wasn't being very stealthy as her massive hairstyle would give her away in an instant. She winced a bit as Keegan opened the door and she followed him out into the main room, staring in surprise when she saw three other people with him. She easily recognized Mitsu, Sasha and Kasiya, though the tall boy with the black hair was somewhat unfamiliar at first. Her mind raced past names and she nodded to herself when she recalled that his name was Kilik. Of course, Mike was there too, though she didn't recognize him at first due to the fact that he was wearing some sort of hooded cloak to hide himself and practically cowering in the corner. Had it not been so hot in the gym already she might have noticed the waves of heat radiating from him, though after a moment or so she noticed wisps of smoke drifting up from his body. "H-hey," she said finally, unable to keep the tremble out of her voice, as she had no idea what was going on. "Wh-what's with the entourage?"
=-=-=-=-= Mai chuckled quietly to herself, using the phone on her camera to take photos of the battle. She watched the Elekid bring down the Chatot with a speedy Quick Attack, and she folded her arms over her chest, still carefully aiming the camera as she wondered how the bird trainer would react now that she had been backed into a corner. The Hoothoot appeared to possess quite a resolve, however, and began to evolve right there on the battlefield. "Interesting," the admin murmured, a little shocked by the turn of events. Both of the orange-haired girl's Pokemon were looking pretty tired, though neither appeared to be willing to give up. Mai shifted her weight to her other foot and continued to spectate, realizing that it had been a long time since she just sat back and watched others battle. She thought that both the trainers before her were quite skilled, and she imagined bright, promising futures for both of them, though she couldn't help but wonder what other Pokemon they had between them. Ignoring the Elekid for now, she raised the phone and snapped a few good shots of the Buizel. I wonder how and when these Pokemon evolve, if at all...

Kilik wiped some of the sweat from his brow and let out a light sigh. It was becoming difficult to breathe. The boy slipped his hands into his pockets and then looked over his shoulder. While he loved the small reunion that was going in here, he didn't know if it was his place to be here. Mike had called on him to help fight Team Magma, and that's what he was going to do. "Hey," he piped in for a second, "I'm gonna step back outside. This Gym is just not my environment," he laughed. He looked over at Flannery and gave a polite bow. "Good to see you," he said before turning around and heading outside. He unlocked the door and stepped outside, closing it behind him. The outside air hit him like a bucket of ice water. The air was so much cooler out here than it had been inside. All the sweat on his forehead seemed to evaporate almost immediately. He let out a soft sigh and closed his eyes, sitting on a bench that was outside of the Gym.
He pulled out his PokeNav and scrolled through some menus to pull up the world map. Having received the Sinnoh update, a large land mass was placed just to the north of Kanto. He zoomed in to the Hoenn region and found his small face blinking over Lavaridge. He scrolled over to Sinnoh and clicked a few more times to find where the first badge was. "A town called Oreburgh..." he nodded and made a mental note. He would likely have to have Karri teleport him there after all was said and done here. He scratched the side of his nose and looked up at the sky. He could hardly wait any longer to get going.
-*-
As soon as he was about to speak, the smooth-talking Carlos approached them from behind. It made Maz jump slightly. Maybe a little more than slightly, because it made him jump completely over Train. Banette appeared out of nowhere and hovered beside his trainer, hissing a laugh. "Huh?" he glanced in the direction that Carlos had mentioned and then scratched the back of his head. "Random lowlife, to be honest. He had his hands all over Train and then!" He jumped back over the girl and punched and kicked the air a few times. "I gave him a few quick MAZA-JABS! And then a swift MAZARIN EXPLOSIVE KICK!" he laughed triumphantly.
"And then I dropped a Shuckle on his head." He cleared his throat. "Anyway, I agree with Carlos. Let's go find your Pokemon and everything will be hunky-diddly-dori!" He pulled his sleeve back a bit and tapped his wrist watch. "Maz's Supplemental...we are on a course to find a lost Pokemon for Train. Will record more as time goes on." He threw his fist into the air. "Now let's go!"

Jett looked once more to the Pokeballs and then to the battlefield, eyeing the two girls warily. We were way out of our league, he attempted to reassure himself with the thought, but it was barely working. He glanced at Scarlet and Sam, then focused on Miharu and the Metang attempting to braid her hair.
Heat flushed to the boy's face as he glared at the muddy earth. Don't be a sore loser, a little voice reminded him, and he reluctantly agreed with it. After two deep breaths, he looked back up to find that the Metang was gone and that no one seemed to be talking. "That was a great battle," he said with a small nod. Then, the boy cast a glance to Scarlet, reminded himself that he could've refused the battle and that the redhead didn't force him to do anything, and jerked his head to the PokeCenter. "I should probably uh. Heal my Pokemon..."
He stared back to Miharu, Sam, and Jasper, and he offered a two-fingered salute to the collective group. "It was nice meeting you!" Without another word, Jett rushed into the Center and hastened to the counter.

When the waitress came, Amy ordered some hot chocolate and a delicious-looking muffin she spied in the display counter from a distance. She settled back into her seat and adjusted her glasses as she awaited Riza's answer.
The girl nodded with a knowing air when Riza mentioned the outclassed part, her mind flickering back to the disastrous battle she tried earlier. Her eyes brightened when she saw the badge, and she blinked some. "It's so pretty," she said quietly, and then she looked back up to the other girl. "You must be really good."
"But... don't you find battling in contests different from regular battling?" Amy blurted out as their food came. Thanking the waitress, Amy took a sip from her hot chocolate and went over her newest question in her mind, hoping it didn't seem too stupid.

Scarlet averted his gaze from the muddy earth. “Training, huh…? Guess we’ll just have to train as hard… Then maybe one day, we’ll be able to give you two a decent fight!” Scarlet was a little sad he lost, sure, but getting better was all about experience, and that was about taking chances to battle strong opponents.
It just so happened that the last three opponents he challenged were better than him.
After a moment of admiring Tingle’s rather amazing dexterity, and showing his slight disappointment when the hovering hairdresser was recalled, Scarlet noted that Jasper’d rejoined the group. “Thanks,” he muttered, rubbing the back of his head and sheepishly accepting the complement. “Hopefully I’ll get to battle you and your Pikachu one day!” With a smile and a nod toward the Ditto, he started walking backward toward the Pokemon Center, right behind Jett.
“It was nice meeting you, Sam and Jasper! Good seeing you again, too, Miharu! Maybe we’ll all meet each other on the way to the League!” With that, he turned and followed Jett, who he hoped didn’t absolutely hate him for that horrible defeat the just suffered. Scarlet made his way to the desk next to his travel buddy.
“H-Hey… Um… Sorry about that… When I see another trainer, I just… Have to ask them to battle.” He placed his pokeballs on the counter, jet black eyes glancing over at the trainer beside him before redirecting their gaze toward the ground. “… But I totally shouldn’t have dragged you and your pokemon into it. I'm really, really sorry."

Sam shrugged to Miharu as she watched Scarlet and Jett go. She remained ignorant of the Metang, not noticing anyone's discomfort.
"I guess. But...uh...why did they leave?" Sam didn't want more people hanging around with them, but Jett and Scarlet had seemed a bit...put off. Sam was hoping she hadn't made them upset, she hadn't even known what she had done. Sam glanced down at the ground. "I got everyone's shoes muddy..." she mumbled. She looked back up, unsure of what to do next. "So...Should we continue on? Do any of your Pokemon need healing, Miharu? Star took some damage, but nothing too bad. I don't think Jett....Never mind. Not important. I think our other Pokemon can handle anything on the way to New Bark Town, right?" Sam started edging towards the city limits, eager to get to their destination.
Sam thought back on the battle. It had really been quick and decisive. Star's Surf had been devastating. She closed her eyes for a few moments. She had never imagined she could ever become this strong, not since her failed Gym battle. Those fantasies hadn't entered her mind in 5 years, and now they were becoming reality. It was bit exciting, but a little overwhelming. She had to breathe deep to keep it under control

“You know, you need a name. You have those scythe-like thinks and cut stuff up real easily…for some reason you remind me of Zorro. That’s it! I’ll call you Zor, short for Zorro!!” Peine called out, a smile coming to Zor’s face.
“Now for the prizes,” the announcer said, continuing his speech. “Peine will receive three Sitrus berries, Munro will receive an Everstone, and Noah will receive the rare Sunstone. Boys, please come up and take your prizes.” The three winners went up and received there prizes and shook the announcers hand. “We will be having out next contest in two days, I hope you can join!”
Peine walked into the National park entrance. Proud of his capture, though saddened about coming in only third place, he had to get his mind straight and get to Newbark as quick as possible. The guard that watched him walked over to the boy and gave him a pokeball.
“Your Sneasel is perfectly fine now; do you need your Scyther to be healed?”
“Yes, that would be nice if you could, but could you make it very quick, I have to leave to Newbark very shortly,” Peine told the man, handing Zor’s park ball to him.
“It will only take a couple of seconds kid,” the guard said as he chuckled, taking Zor’s ball and then giving it to his friend with the Blissey. After a couple of seconds, Zor was being handed back to Peine fully healed. “There ya go kid, and good luck with getting to Newbark,” the guard said with a smile.
“Thank you sir,” Peine said as he bowed and headed out the door towards route 36 hopefully making his way to Violet by noon.

Miharu could only nod meekly in response to Scarlet and Jett as they walked away, her mind having hardly even registered Jasper's comment as well. "Yeah, I suppose," she mumbled, but then she remembered that Star's Surf had completely wiped out her Ponyta. "Uh, I want to get Mori all healed up first, you can go on ahead if you want. I'll catch up," she said with a nod, walking slowly towards the Pokemon Center. In all honesty, she wasn't upset with Sam, not in the slightest, as after all it had been her fault for not giving Sam the details of the powerful move. If anything, she was upset with herself, not only for omitting that information, but also because of the battle itself. When it came right down to it, she felt like a bully, and she didn't like it one bit. She waited in line for treatment, noticing that Jett and Scarlett were several people ahead of her, and she quietly hoped they wouldn't see her. Sending out Tingle was too much, she thought with a sigh, running her fingers through her hair to smooth out the knots the Metang had left in it. If I'm so 'experienced' I should have known better.

Jett gently placed his Pokeballs on the counter and exchanged a concerned look with the kindly nurse, who merely offered a consoling smile and took his Pokemon away. The boy didn't answer Scarlet at first, eyes focused dully on his shoes, before he looked up some, managing a small smile.
"It's fine," he said easily, nodding a little. "It's just that I've been through a few losses lately, and that was... kind of horrifying." He winced at the thought of Athena getting hit by the Metang. But then he nodded again and grinned to his new friend. "But the best thing we can do right now is move on and get stronger! There's no way Falkner is stronger than those two! So we should just focus on the next stepping stone, right?" His spirits seemed to be higher as Nurse Joy returned with his fully healed Pokemon and he thanked her, collecting them and returning them to his belt.

Jasper nodded and returned Jett's little salute, turning his attention to the red-haired Scarlet. "Yeah, I hope so too," he said, though he knew he and Ditto (and Paras too, of course) would need to put in some serious training before they jumped into their first real battle. It seemed that Miharu and Sam were now leaving as well, and he waved at both girls. "Catch you guys later," he called, still smiling despite the fact that everyone had just up and left. He looked down to Ditto, who was watching intently as the four more-experienced trainers headed off to do whatever. "Well, that was fun," he said, bending down and scooping up the Pikachu-wannabe. "We may not have battled, but at least we got to see some awesome Pokemon in action, and we now know the right way to get to New Bark Town from here."
"Pika," Ditto nodded. Jasper got on his bike once again, and the imitation mouse Pokemon hopped onto the handlebars and the two began to make their way towards the city limits, both replaying the battle they had just witnessed in their minds. Jasper couldn't help but feel a bit of that long-forgotten excitement beginning to well up inside of his stomach as he pedaled onward, zipping past the Violet City Gym. His eyes scanned the sign posted out front, and he committed those words to memory - it seemed that this gym's leader was a young man by the name of Falkner, and he trained Flying-types. He couldn't remember if it was Grass or Bug-types that were weak against Flying, or maybe even both, but he figured he'd find out for sure soon enough. He sped past the Pokemon Center and quickly finding his way onto Route 31. The scenery around them was lush and green, but neither Jasper nor Ditto seemed to notice it, as all either of them could think of was getting to their destination. 'Once I have my PokeDex, then I can actually start learning about my Pokemon rather than just stumbling along blindly,' he thought, thinking back to his recent tussle with Paras. He felt bad for saying it, but he was certain that he'd only caught it because it was weak and timid. Ditto seemed to mirror his thoughts, and had since shifted into a copy of the mushroom Pokemon, though his front claws were a little lopsided in size. 'With training, Paras will learn his strengths, and we'll be taking on other trainers in no time,' Jasper thought excitedly.

Leon was quite disappointed that Ghos' Will-o-wisp hadn't hit, but he supposed it wasn't a big deal. "Ghos, don't get caught in that attack again!" He called out. Ideally, Ghos would defeat the Onix by himself and get a couple of attacks in on Roxanne's next Pokémon, so Leon was not keen on having him hit by Rock Tomb a second time.
Ghos seemed to agree with Leon, already speeding away from the Onix. Though slowed by the sandstorm, it appeared to Leon that his Pokémon would be able to escape the large rocks that threatened to trap him.
This move seemed to be quite the annoyance, and so Leon decided to see if he could try to get it to cause a little less trouble for him. "Use Spite, Ghos," He commanded. Ghos turned to face his opponent once again and began to focus, feeling a bit better towards the Rock Tomb attack as he attempted to cut some of Onix's power points for the attack.
[( I don't know how to describe Spite sorry for the shittyness. ;.; )]

Riza politely thanked the waitress as well, gleefully eying her hot chocolate and pastry. Little things like this often made her happy, and she broke off a small piece of her danish and nibbled on it, smiling as she took back her badge case and closed it. "Thank you, but it really wasn't that easy. Lt. Surge was not only a tough opponent, but he was as big as like..." Riza trailed off, trying to think of something to compare the large man with. "...like a Machamp, but without the two extra arms. He was huge and scary and he had like, this booming voice." She held her arms out, giggling as she imitating the large gym leader. "He was nice afterwards, though," she added with a shrug, now taking a sip of her hot chocolate, which was just as good as she'd hoped it would be.
She looked up as Amy asked her next question, and blinked a few times as she mulled it over. "Well, I don't think I can give you a true answer on that, since tonight's contest will be my first, but if I compare all the contests I've seen on television with the battles I've participated in so far, I can honestly say that they seem different. There's so many different things to consider. With contests, not only are you battling another Coordinator, but you're also fighting against the clock, and to hang on to as many of your points as you can. You also don't have to worry as much about type match ups and damage you deal and take as you do in a regular battle, as you're trying your hardest to win with skill and your Pokemon's power. It's not as much about showing off as it is power. At least that's what I think."
She smiled sheepishly as she realized she'd started to ramble a bit, and she quickly shut herself up by enjoying another bite of her cherry cheese danish. It too was very good and she was glad she'd chosen something light to eat, as her still felt a little jittery on the inside and knew she couldn't have handled anything more. * * * * * It seemed that no matter how much Katie and her two Pokemon were preparing to attack the newly-evolved Noctowl, it wouldn't be enough. As soon as the evolution light dimmed, Miles loosed a Sonic Boom with a flick of his tails, sending the sonic energy sailing through the air. The Owl Pokemon gave a defiant hoot and flew up into the air with a single flap of his more powerful wings, easily carrying him up and over the Buizel's attack. The feather crest on his forehead began to shine a pale blue, and soon the same aura encompassed Miles, who suddenly found himself unable to move. The Buizel gasped and struggled, but the Noctowl's Confusion attack held him tight.
"Come on, Kord! Bring him down with a Shock Wave!" Katie called, pointing at the Noctowl. A few quick whirls of his arms created a strong current of electricity between the Elekid's prongs, and with a shout he sent it streaking forward towards the Noctowl. Alexandra had called for a counter attack, but Katie didn't hear it over the crackling of Kord's electricity. The Noctowl, eyes and crest still glowing blue, shifted its gaze to Kord, and a split second before the electricity struck him, used his strange psychic powers to throw the helpless Buizel in front of him like a shield. "Miles, no!" Katie shrieked, watching with horror as her Buizel was subjected to his team mate's powerful attack, and then felt to the ground, too weak to continue fighting.
"Nice job, Noctowl!" Alexandra cheered, very proud of her newly evolved Pokemon. "Keep it up! Confusion again!" she shouted as Katie was recalling her fainted Buizel into his poke ball.
"No way! Kord, get in close with your Quick Attack, and then give him a taste of your special move!" Katie countered quickly. A quick salute from Kord was all she got to see of the Elekid before he became a speeding blur of black and yellow. Before the Noctowl's eyes could even begin glowing his target was already behind him, raising both of his arms high in the air before he brought them down hard in a double-chopping motion, Kord's signature Cross Chop attack. The Owl could only give a pitiful hoot as it slumped to the ground. "All right! We did it!" Katie cheered, running over and scooping up her Elekid in her arms. Kord gave a weak smile and nuzzled into his trainer's shoulder, clearly tired.
"That was a great battle," Alexandra said, having recalled her Pokemon as well. "I thought we had you there."
"Using Miles as a shield against Kord's Shock Wave was a great idea. A bit sneaky, but great never the less," Katie smiled.
"I hope we get to battle again sometime, see you around," the bird keeper said, waving as she headed off back in the direction of Eterna City.
Katie waved goodbye and then turned to look at the woman that had been watching the battle. She wasn't sure what it was, but the woman's presence made chills creep down her spine. "Do you want to battle too?" she called before she could stop herself, somehow regretting the words the moment they were said. * * * * * Roxanne's Onix shuddered violently as bad feeling creeped down his rocky spine. He didn't know why, but just the thought of using Rock Tomb again gave him the wiggins. He smashed his tail against the ground, trying to shake the feeling, but to no avail. He really didn't want to use Rock Tomb any more than he absolutely had to.
"Shake it off, Onix! You know what to do!" Roxanne called, not at all put-off by the fact that her Pokemon's move had effectively been disabled. By this point, the Sandstorm had started to die down, signaling its end. Onix let out a roar, still feeling a bit creeped out as he swept his massive tail along the ground, causing the weakening Sandstorm to whip back up into full force, once again filling the field with sharp, dangerous sands.

Amy smiled and giggled during Riza's impression of the Electric-type leader and faintly remembered how a gym leader was supposed to be judging. Isn't Fantina here...? The thought excited her; if there was any gym leader who knew contests, it'd surely be Sinnoh's Fantina, but there was also Hoenn's Wallace... She smiled faintly and wondered if she would ever be good enough to battle either.
She mulled over Riza's response, a heavy sigh escaping her. The girl took a bite of her muffin and smiled again; it was warm and delicious. Contest battles did certainly seem more complex, but why would she have such a problem with regular battling? "That seems about right," she murmured before taking another sip of her hot chocolate. Power... "For some reason, I freeze up in regular battles..." Amy admitted, looking at her muffin. "Maybe I was always so focused on contest battles that regular battling was foreign to me..."
Maybe I should learn the basics of being a trainer... She didn't know what to say next, so she glanced out the window. The sky was darkening; the contest was coming upon them. "Are you as nervous as I am?" she asked lightly, taking another bite of her muffin. Nerves were beginning to set in, and the girl felt like she shouldn't eat any more unless she wanted to get sick.

Even Mai couldn't help but be impressed by the Noctowl's use of Confusion. Had it not used the Buizel to block the electricity, it would have been taken down for sure, though it was safe to say the Bird Keeper had severely underestimated the Elekid's speed. She watched the two young girls exchange the usual after-battle pleasantries, and smiled at the affection the orange-haired girl showed her Elekid. It seemed quite young, perhaps still a baby, but she could easily see the small Electric-type's potential, as that had been one impressive Cross Chop. She'd taken a few steps forward, intent on congratulating the girl on her victory when she suddenly turned and faced her, stopping Mai in her tracks.
She's... challenging me? Mai thought, unable to suppress a surprised smile. She took a few steps forward, and placed her hands on her hips. "You read my mind," she said, still smiling. Her fingertips lightly danced along the row of Pokeballs set in her belt. "How does one on one sound to you?"

Train jumped and almost let out a small squeak of surprise as Carlos suddenly appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. She continued hugging Pikachu to her and trailed her gaze over to the man, dropping her eyes once again as Maz began to speak. A small smile tugged at the corners of her lips and she breathed out a tiny, almost-laugh through her nose as Maz relayed the epic story of his heroic deeds to Carlos.
Train shuffled her feet, eyes still fixed on the ground. She almost felt too tired to raise them as she spoke. "Thank you," She said quietly to the two. She raised her head and offered them a smile, loosening her grip on Pikachu a tad to make sure she wasn't suffocating the poor Pokémon.

It appeared that the attack had worked, and Leon rested his hand on his hip as he waited for Roxanne to make her move. Both Ghos and Leon were glad to see that the storm was dying down, and Leon's normally bored expression melted down to a dull glare as the Onix kicked a new one right up to take the old one's place. Leon almost had Ghos use Spite again, but figured that it'd be kind of a waste since there were plenty of better things he could use their turn on.
"Give it another Giga Drain," He finally said, knowing that with the constant damage being done to his Pokémon via the sandstorm, his Gastly's hit points were bound to be draining. Multiple green orbs began appearing from Ghos, and floated speedily towards Roxanne's Onix in an attempt to repeat their power-draining performance from earlier.
