Mitchell Hundred Chris Powell Mitchell Hundred Chris Powell Natalia Romanova It was a elite Halo 3 edition actually. BLERGFACEBLALBLABLA. I thought those were supposed to be more resistant to the RROD... Are you really that much of a Play Station fan boy? I read that the Elites released in 2007 and after were supposed to be more resistant to the RROD and that makes me a PS fanboy. Right. There was a conversation in July in this very thread about the Elites being more resistant to the Red Ring in which I stated I haven't had any problems yet and you threw statisics of their failure being on the rise. If you are not just trying to rub my nose in my misfortune then I revoke my statement and apologize full heartedly. I've been snappy all day. BUT!: If secretly deep down you're laughing mechanically and stroking your PS3 like a evil lap cat the console Gods will know and your time will come. OH IT WILL COME. gonk scream Then you have a better memory than me. While I generally remember that convo, I don't remember anyone mentioning the Elites being more resistant to the RROD. I remembered that from review on the Halo Editions I saw. And no I wasn't rubbing your nose in anything. It sucks having your console broken no matter what it is.

Avatar is overrated wanky-a** bullshit that has absolutely ******** nothing behind the effects. James Cameron has always been, is now, and forever a hack. He has never created an engaging, interesting, or progressive narrative in his life and and he's not about to start now. I'm mostly pissed about that movie because as with anything sci-fi, people keep either telling me to see it or that I'd love it because supposedly I'm that guy.
Movies to see brought to you by your friendly neighbourhood video store dude:
Recent domestic (DVD) releases: - District 9 (Better than Avatar, but not astounding) - Jennifer's Body (I hate Megan Fox, love the film) - Whatever Works (Woody Allen + Larry David = homerun) - Taking Woodstock (Ang Lee does Woodstock) - Shrink (Kevin Spacey at his best) - Up (Because if you haven't, seriously do yourself a favour) - Star Trek (Only terrorists and child molesters cannot appreciate this movie) - I Love You Man (Apatow without the Apatow) - Public Enemies (Heat in the 20's with Johnny Depp) - Inglorious Basterds (I shouldn't have to be telling you that) - The Girlfriend Experience (Soderberg goes back to his Sex, Lies, and Videotape days with a brilliant crossover performance by porn star Sasha Grey) - The Limits of Control (quiet, cool arthouse film from Jim Jarmusch) - Surveillance (Directorial debut by David Lynch's daughter Jennifer)
Recent foreign language (DVD) releases: - Gomorrah (the best and truest mafia film of all time) - Sin Nombre (powerful drama about illegal migrants to the US) - Thirst (vampire movie from the director of Old Boy) - Rudo Y Cursi (soccer movie starring juggernauts Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal) - Let the Right One In (Swedish sleeper hit vampire film) - JCVD (Yes, it's really that good)
Recent TV (on DVD) releases: - The United States of Tara - Glee Season One Part One - Eastbound and Down - Dollhouse - Fringe - Breaking Bad

You know I've heard stuff about Avatar, everyone in my family raves about how awesome of a movie it was. That is all except my brother who bashed everyone for going to see it. I'm still ify on watching the dang thing and might just watch it when it comes out on DVD. Knowing my parents, they'll be renting it as they rent almost everything just because. From some opinions it sounds like a roller coaster gone wrong. One of those that you have to lean against the toilet as if you drank all night and your stomach is rebelling in the worst possible of ways. Jennifer's Body, Well I was interested in it the first Trailer and as more and more of the movie was shown in each trailer they had I lost interest. The Megan Fox hype seems to have gone dead with that. I enjoyed her character in Transformers, but that seems about it for me so far. Fox's role seems a bit too corny for me in Jennifer's Body. "I like girls too," made me roll my eyes. I used to be a big movie person, now my collection has turned into a kiddie movie collection. I'm hip with the new Tinker Bell releases. rofl There is one movie I believe that I would snap up when I find it in a store. If OnlyThere is so many others that I would love to pick up, most of them the ones people mention. Eh, but somehow only being able to watch them at certain times I figure i can wait until the mood strikes me and I find it somewhere out of the blue.

I enjoyed it. Didn't really like the ending but I enjoyed the underlying point of the movie greatly

I'm mostly pissed about that movie because as with anything sci-fi, people keep either telling me to see it or that I'd love it because supposedly I'm that guy. Oh come on. James Cameron has never pretended to be some godsend of film making and is actually remarkably level headed and objective in interviews. He has a well known set temper because he generally has very tight visions of his films and typically spends a very long time crafting said vision and has little patience for unprofessional-ism. Love or hate Aliens, Terminator, True Lies; to each their own. I don't love Cameron but I certainly don't think he is a hack. Within the current box office I'm more personally inclined to label Guy Ritchie as a hack. I found found Sherlock Holmes to be exceptionally contrived and was sad I followed up my disappointing Avatar experience with it.

Avatar's a cute gimmick. Easily the most overrated film of the year, which is no small task in the year that also gave us District 9. (Which I also did not much care for. Didn't dislike it, just didn't think it was anything special.) From a purely technical standpoint, it's a great movie. The visual effects were outstanding, the 3D integrates better than anything else I've seen, it was well directed and, hell, even the sound editing was top notch. That said, the storyline blew. It used every cliche in the book from "humans are the bad guys" to "nature is good." The characters, with the possible exception of Sigorney Weaver's, were all flat stereotypes. (Especially that army general. Jesus Christ.) The performances were nothing special. Worthington's voice-over wore thin after the first 2 hours. And, my god, if it wasn't the most predictable thing I've seen in my life.
I need to look into Jennifer's Body, because, despite all the negative things I've heard, I do want to like it. I love slasher flicks, I loved Juno and I'd love to believe Jason Reitman wouldn't get himself mixed up in a movie as bad as everyone's saying.
And, because it's been quite a bit since I've raved about it, SEE LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. Do it before Matt Reeves finishes that American remake, because it probably won't be anywhere as good.

See, I loved Sherlock Holmes. It pushed all the buttons I wanted it to.
I found watching Avatar to be physically painful, as after 2 hours of swoopy, 3-d digital graphics, an additional HOUR of the same shots gave me vertigo, something I've never had a problem with before.

Hartley Rathaway See, I loved Sherlock Holmes. It pushed all the buttons I wanted it to. Agreed. Ritchie maybe wasn't the best director for the time frame, but I thought he handled the story well. Not his best work - not even close - but not hack work at all. If nothing else, the movie is worthwhile for the performances. And by that, I of course mean Robert Downey Jr's. Not that I'd make the argument, but if you were going to call Ritchie a hack, there are much better examples than Sherlock Holmes to cite. This is the guy who directed Swept Away, remember. And as much as I liked Rocknrolla - and I definitely liked it a lot - most of the plot was just rehashed from Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smokin' Barrels.

I thought Jude Law pulled off Watson far better than I expected, too. What would you have thought 4 years ago if someone told you Watson could be SEXY?

Has James Cameron done shitty work? Yes. Is he a hack? No. Terminator 2 and Aliens weren't the work of a hack.
