Still the ever present feeling that the captain was withholding valuable information. "What's the price? And if I remember correctly, you emphasized that for matters that concern the sands and your ship, you always have the last say because of your knowledge and experience. So why this consult, Hunter? What are you trying to get me to say?"
PostPosted: Fri Feb 22, 2008 9:35 pm

"I don't know the price. I only know what my deal was. and I don't know what he'd ask you. and the reason I ask you is because you are the one out of the people who would be willing to do this that is the most reliable. I can't afford to ask bell, Caden would talk to much. the elves wouldn't be willing. I'd sacrifice the dragoness pet, but I bet our little star eyed friends wouldn't let me."

Turning his back on the dragon a moment.

"I bartered service for the sands. the Chimera is a special ship. you've probably noticed the wide array of weapons, and her speed is quite well. but she was built long before the Storms. and she sank long before the Storms. I made the deal to get the freedom of the sands."

a slight glance back.

"and when my time is up, I serve on the Prince. it's not exactly a great deal. but I get the freedom that only comes with being on the sand. I don't know what he'd ask you for protection from the Serpent, and the revival of the Claw is she's beyond salvage."

before turning fully around.

"But I won't have Gem and the rest of both crews being overly superstitious or the like. And I don't want things known to others about my past. out of my options, your the only workable one."

Of course he'd be trying to barter Kanzec in exchange for his own deal, but that he'd just keep secret for now.

He was sure that Dragon was a Laerethe now. they fit the description on thier skills nicely. this information on the orb thing linked the black dragon's need to stop anyone they were with from toying with him. He's been roped into a battle probably way beyond his scope to really contend with. but not unsalvagable. after all, proper knowledge could give proper leverage if used correctly.

Caden was now busying himself by walking around the ship, he was taking in areas which will fit the crew of the Claw and he already had found enough places to put almost half of them. It was going to be a little tight but it was better than sleeping out on the deck. For a moment he he paused to check inside a room and noted how if they could move a few things at least four crew men could fit in there, after all the area where Fang's crew resides was filled completely by a good fraction of Gem's. So after checking another room Caden continued on, and then it took him awhile searching more areas, speaking, and prying into rooms to figure out where everyone can go. When he was done he made his way back to the galley and searched out for Gem. When he did find her he said hello before he went on. "Well I just came by to tell you, I've found a few good places for your crew to rest in, some places may require moving what's inside but we could make it work."

" 'Course." As if there was another kind of slippery. Silly Bellah. Once Areesa began a certain game, like the question game, she really didn't want to stop but Bellah seemed to have other ideas. "Well, Rider dragons can't change neither. Not till they're taught." Bandaging? Was she bleeding again? "Want me to go get Kaznec for you? He could help. Or Lynnieeeeee! KAZZZYYYYY! Bellah needs bandagin'."

She didn't want to annoy Hunter. How sad. Nodding to Caden, "Alright." Picking her up again, he strode back down to the crew's area and stole a hammock then set them both up in a neat little corner away from the rough and tumble crewman. Kicking off his boots, he settled himself in the hammock, pulled her on top of him and covered them both with a blanket. "Just sleep, Gem. It'll all look better in the morning." Pressing a kiss to her hair and lightly brushing his hands over her back and through her tangled locks. She needed her hair brushed again....

Shyrae knew Sky wouldn't really understand the implications of what she was saying right away but she was kind of hoping that she might lend some sort of insight as to what might happen without her. Asking far too much of a learning dragon. "Not to worry. I will and often." Patting Sky on the shoulder and then walking back up on deck to find Savvy. She communicated the new number of inhabitants on the ship and then settled on a barrel next to her. "I was thinking about going home for a bit..."

"Of course they can't if they're not taught. Every civilized dragon has to be taught. Sure it's half instinct but at the same time there's a fair amoung of learning to be done." Rumaging through various nearby crates and such...not that she thought she'd find anything too clean in all of that but you had to deal sometimes. "No, Areesa it's fine. You don't need to bother them. I can do it myself. Bleeding may have stopped already anyway." Hopefully she didn't need stitches or anything. Giving up her search for bandaging, she sat down on a crate and took to taking off blood soaked wrappings, touching fingers lightly over gashes. Oh yeah, those were gonna linger. Looked horrid too. A sigh, shaking her head, with a slight upset tone to her voice "I'm always getting into something..."

If anything she was bored, but she had tucked herself away in a less traveled part of the ship so that the crew had as much room as it wanted to move around and repair and what not. But her attention easily went to her friend...those were not pretty numbers. However, what came next surprised her more. "This wanderlust thing not for you?"

Silence for a moment, simply returning Hunter's steady gaze as he mulled over all the information. "You want me to barter with the Burning Prince's captain. Ask for his help in salvaging the Claw and dealing with Fang." Reiterating for confirmation, before a shake of his head. "Don't you think this is a decision better discussed with captain Gem and the Laerethe as well? Your past is significant but most likely not in this decision."

But a glance up as a familiar voice called his name and relayed the news. "Areesa, tell her I'll be right there." Looking back to Hunter, he continued. "If the Burning Prince is as dangerous as the legends claim it to be, making a deal with it might not be worth the services we receive. I won't risk the crew and the group for an elusive pirate's word. Is this really the only way we have right now? How long would it take to repair the Claw?" Because Hunter had a point, they would be risking everyone by sitting here and working on the ships. Either they would have to leave the Claw behind and continue on with the Chimera or find another mode of transportation. Or this new plan...

"I don't want them involved. Gem will scoff at the idea, and the last thing I need is another lecture from those diminuative pests. For all thier great power they don't do hardly a thing to help but give cryptic advice and take up space."

a little disdain in that voice there.

"We have to consider the idea that the Claw is gone. or torn apart by Fang or burned. I won't leave Gem stranded in some atoll because of my word that she'd be compensated. and the Prince's captain doesn't deal more than once with someone until their debt is paid, or in barter of said payment. if the Claw is repairable, we shouldn't have to worry about anything but Fang and that black dragon. if she's not, we may have to consider some other method of restoring her, or getting Gem another ship."
PostPosted: Sat Feb 23, 2008 12:17 am

"You forget that they were the ones who included you in this in the first place. They also know more than you think. In fact, they may even know of somewhere else we can get help from." A frown at that. "Fang has his own repairs to deal with but it is true that we can't continue on with twice the number of crew on your ship." He didn't like the idea of leaving Gem in the dark if only to save Hunter some shame or humiliation from his own past, but the real issue was the notion that the Burning Prince's captain didn't deal with someone more than once. "There is always the option of bartering with the Riders. They have encampments all over and they must be resourceful enough to survive like that. Like I said, it might not be wise to summon up a legendary danger if we can find the means on our own. And my uncle has not posed a threat to us yet, which doesn't necessarily mean that he's an ally but don't jump to conclusions." Hmm, now he was seriously contemplating connecting with father at some point in time.

Hunter chuckled lightly.

"Riders. has the sun gotten to you, my red scaled commander? they know you're here. they know your colors, and they know the tricks to bring you down. you really think if any of us went to the riders for help, that they wouldn't kill us, or bring you to your knees and put you under the yoke?"

though his face hardened again. damn this lizard's logical needs. why couldn't he just agree, so Hunter could bring him to the Burning Prince, let him make the deal, and the sell him off for his own deal as well.

"So lets make an agreement. if we can repair the Claw, we won't worry about it. if we can't repair the claw, you give serious consideration to our options and consider how far your willing to go, and what your willing to do, for the safety of others. like Bell."

holding out his hand.

"Other than that, we don't mention this little part of our conversation to anyone. not crew, not little globes of light, not friends, not family..no one. do we have an accord?"

Bellah sounded kinda cross right there, didn't she? Areesa sank back before she could tell her the news that Kazzy was on his way. And she was adamant that she didn't need help which Lynnie was gonna get a kick out of. Her tone changed and Areesa moved into action. Resting lightly against her cheek to give her some warmth, she fluttered back by her neck so her hair would move against his skin, as if human-esque fingers were pulling through it in comfort. "Sokay, Bellah. It's not really your fault, you know. I'm always upsettin' peoples but that's not really my fault either. Just the way we are."

"It's not so much the wanderlust." Crossing her arms and gazing out into the inky black darkness. "Sav, you know I don't deal with captive and tortured animals very well. I don't like the Riders and I want to free those dragons. We both know if I try to do anything like it, Hunter would skin me alive. I was almost thinking that Kelligrin might take it on..."

Merely staring back, hardly as amused as Hunter seemed to be. "I admit that I'm uneasy with them but like I said before, if I've learned anything since my time out here, it is that people use each other, constantly scheming and plotting to get the most while giving the least. If it ever came to that, I'm sure it's a risk you'd be willing to take." Apparently though, Hunter knew exactly how to get under his skin even if Kaz didn't realize it himself. One mention of that name and he was probably already half-sold. Because situations like that were just not pleasant to imagine. "Fine..." Really didn't like this whole secret thing though. They were a team, they worked together and discussed things. It's what the Guardians did. It's why Jae had come along, she was the strategist, she could have helped. "I'll give it further thought but making a decision based on a legendary figure I hardly know anything about isn't wise. I'll keep your past and our discussion to myself but I will be asking others for more information on the Burning Prince. Fair?"

Her eyes slightly turned to the little ball of light, briefly wondering if the other two were around listening somewhere, and gave a light sigh as it was trying to give comfort. “You just upset with words, and they are sometimes more forgiving and less hurtful. And you’re not really hurting anyone, some people just appreciate perky all the time. I’m always….getting hurt, or causing trouble, or making people stress and worry. Obligating them.” Another light cringe, ow. “Well…if that’s the way we are, I should be behind a desk planning and mapping.”

Another blink at all of this…where was this all coming from? Was she just upset that the dragons and such were like they were here? Then again, Savvy wasn’t the most sensitive woman in any plane and she’d kill you before hug you in some cases, torture and captivity and such were all just actions that could help her own means when she needed. “Kelligrin? He’s a ‘good’ mercenary. Of course he’d do it, either for the right price or a favor from his little sister, and if morals were right.” A moral mercenary…it was kinda funny. “Ever think that it’s best not to try and chance the dynamics of a plane? Sometimes things are just the way they are and sometimes uncontrolled and uncivilized dragon’s will do more harm than good. I know it sounds cruel of me, but those are the facts.” Sighing though and softening just a bit, knowing she was hurting feelings. “But I suppose you shouldn’t stay if you’re not happy…I’ll be fine on my own.”

"Fair enough."

This was going to work, maybe, after all.

Desdemona plopped down by the elves, still holding that ice bag on her head.

"so ladies. enjoying your trip so far or are you regretting ever setting foot on the sands out here?"
PostPosted: Sat Feb 23, 2008 2:15 pm

And there was the crux of the issue. "I don't think people's worry is obligation, Bellah. Kazzy worries about you 'cause he likes you. Lynnie worries about you 'cause she doesn't want you to get hurt. I guess you could say hers is obligation though. At least at first. But then again maybe not. I dunno really. It's kinda confusin'. Areesa made a noise that sounded like a snort. "By that logic I should just shut up then. Xekey would be happy 'bout that but I wouldn't. Defiance is fun, Bellah. Kinda like a game. Be who you want to be not who you think you should be. Or...something like that?"

Shyrae chuckled softly at her friend's description of her brother. "Morals are definitely right but there's no money involved. I can't pay him off and the only other one who could do anything close would be the Laerethe. They hold supreme power or something like that on this plane right?" She knew Savvy would be thinking about the rational end which was precisely why she brought this to her. Shy's father had often mentioned her tendency to rely on emotion like her mother. It got her into trouble more often than not even though she didn't just stroll in whips and magic blazing. "It just upsets me. And I'm afraid Sky may take matters into her own claws on that issue as well and get herself killed..." Glancing up as Des strolled over. "I thought this was pretty typical of a journey, actually. Is it not?"

Seemed like he had another issue to mull over now. Others would probably call it more like worrying but he couldn't tell them, so it didn't matter. Giving a final nod to Hunter then, he headed back through the ship, first making a stop in the galley to fetch a bowl of clean water. Then it was onto where Jae had made them their nesting corner. Well, she was on her feet now and indeed the bandages were getting soaked through... "Moving will make it worse, Jae." Letting her sit on a nearby crate, he removed the old bandages from her stomach and pulled a cloth from his ever handy belt and took to cleaning the gash again. "Pain still as bad as before?"
