"Oof," she cried, a mock thing of indignance at the gentle nudge of his tail. But she smiled- glad that he was starting to seem more like himself. "Sure- I've always been curious. I wonder which one of them was double jointed, like me- or if my mother cracked her knuckles as much as I dooo..." she drawled the word, choosing a large piece of hair before cutting it, "I wish I knew if my father was moody, or if they got along really well- if they were a 'good couple' or a 'bad' one. ...I wonder if Mizzie's habit of eating raw oysters was from them, or if she was just a weirdo." She smiled at the memory. "Stuff like that."

He wanted to nod, but he didn't want to risk loosing a patch of his hair and making everything uneven. So he went with a simple, "Mmmm". He didn't want to move his mouth while she worked with his bangs. When he felt it was safe, he spoke up. "I know what you mean. Did your grandfather not talk much about those kinds of things?"

She took on a faux gruff voice, a farcical mimic of her creased-voiced grandfather- though it ended up sounding more like the alien-infested 'Edgar' from the Men in Black Movie. "Your father was a real piece of work, and I don't mind saying so, and that wife of his was cold as cucumber left in the cooler. Loved the boy like my own son- probably because he was. Don't bother with it. Just don't bother with it." She eclipsed out of the horrible impression with a laugh and a clearing of her throat. "That was his favorite saying. "Don't bother with it."

"Sounds like your grandfather was quite a character. I never got to meet mine." He went quiet for a moment. "How is it coming?"

"I thought you were close with a grandparent. ...Oh, it was your grandmother, wasn't it? ...It's coming along. Be patient." She said teasingly,

"Nonie? No, we weren't related. She was my landlady. She took care of me while me dad worked. She was like a grandmother to me."

He huffed playfully, Em's mood helping to improve his own. "I am patient." He waited a second. "How about now?"

"Oof. Hold onto your britches. You may have never had a haircut... or me either, for that matter, but I know they take longer than a few minutes. Or would you like me to just put a bowl over your head? Very 20's poor chic."

"No bowl-cut, please. I'll behave." He laughed. "I have had haircuts before. If I didn't my hair would have been as long as your's when I arrived here. I'm just teasing you."

"Oh." She paused. "True." Then she smacked him on the back. "You're going to pretend I didn't say that, on threat of... well... something evil that involves tickling."

He sat up a little straighter when she swatted his back. "Say what? Threatening me with a bowl-cut or the no haircut thing?" He smiled in amusement.

"The never-said 'no haircut' thing." She cut a good swatch away from the side of his head. "...Whoops."

His smile turned to worry. "Whoops? People cutting hair should never say 'whoops'. How whoops?"

She laughed. "Not whoops at all. ....Um, hoops. Like basketball. Do you like basketball, Lucas?" She brushed the chunk off the bed and watched it flutter to the floor.

He gave her a skeptical look. "Hoops, huh? I played for fun, since their was a hoop closeby, but not often." His ear twitched involuntarily. He missed the chunk falling off the bed since it was done on his bad side. "But really, whoops what?"

She laughed. "It's not a big deal. I'm almost done." She smoothed out the section that she'd taken a swatch from, then cut a little around it to even it out. "It's... stylish." She cut a little more, then sat back, her hands on her knees and the loop of the scissors hanging from her forefinger. "You can take a look at if it you want."
