Karu_Chan right now im playing symphoney 41 3nodding it goes so fast my fingers seem to have a mind of their own Oh man, I know the feeling. We got "Tatarian Dances" the other day... it's in cut time at one point, going 115 BPM with five flats. Kind of crazy. It's SUCH a fun song though. 3nodding

My high school's band has, like, 20 flutes. My last years high school's band (before I transfered) had only 7 or so. Before that, only 5. And, in my 6th grade year, I was the ONLY flute! eek

There's 10 flutes in my band (including me) and I'm still trying to figure out why half of them aren't dead/in the lower band. Last year there was only 5 in my band. It was nice.

Well, we have 14, and have not had chair placements as of yet, so we have juniors that should be at the bottom that are placed after the sophomores. No clue why.
We had to write axioms for my english class, and mine ended up being "Some people are blessed with the gift of music; others are not." However, some people think that the "others are not" should be replaced with "sarah caudle is not." she happens to be one person no one really likes. Of course, she decided that she would not perform during a competition a few weeks ago, and thought that us not having her solo would hurt us. of course, it didn't. and she never regianed her solo.

Quote: XD Yeah, I'm glad too. I missed him. We're "partners in crime," kinda... we talk across the room (during concert season, anyway... we sit next to each other for pep band) and get glared at by our BD. When she catches us, anyway. ^^;; Man... that DOES suck... the thing about the music, I mean. >.< I'd shoot myself if we did that in my band. I think that's all some people in it can play, though. x_x;; Yes, the flute section needs much guidance... guidance from Megan the Great! XDD Just kidding. Me and my friend Sarah are taking co-leadership of the flute section, though... it's needed BADLY. Sarah's probably the best flautist after me, and she's the one who came to me and complained about the other flautists - basically echoed everything I'd been thinking. XD does he know u like him? xd Today in jazz band our BD found some flute parts and since we didn't get our other instruments yet we played out flutes. I was REALLY flat, and it was partly cuz i didnt hold my flute up level with the ground. the BD pointed this out and i raised it a bit and he was all like, more, more, there. That'll help your playing and everyone started looking at me and I look and Kristen and was like 'YOU WERE IN THE WAY!' xd if i put my flute all the way up i would of hit her in the head lol. and someone also drew a pic of a weirded out person on the board and it said Mr. R on it, and one of our BD are Mr. Rhoades, so he was like "...huh? hows that me??' and some kid said 'Well... it just says Mr. R... it might not be you...' and so the BD says "Yeah... right...' and then the drawing is doing some weird thing on the board so our BD tries to adjust himself to look like the picture. It was pretty funny xd Another time in jazz band the trombone gets a solo, and we only have one trombone and shes HORRIBLE. everyone knows it too, and after the song was over she said 'Yeah... I'm kinda slow...' and a sax player was like 'You mean in the head err...?' and the guy on the drums did that thing that you hear on the TV shows after someone makes a joke (hopes I'm making sense xd ) it was hilarious, everyone burst out laughing. Wow... someone who knows your every thought xd Creepy! My name's Sarah too! 3nodding What a coincidence!

Wow! so much posting since I last came here! Glad to see everyone is getting along. Thats unusual for a bunch of girls, lol. Just proves that not all woodwind girls are whiney little.... wink miangel My band has 20 flutes too. Split between two bands, though. I hate it. There's 10 flutes in my band (including me) and I'm still trying to figure out why half of them aren't dead/in the lower band. Last year there was only 5 in my band. It was nice. Even five is too many for me, lol. Last year we had... 30ish people in our band class and six of them were flute players. I definitely wanted half of them to leave. One on first flute, one on second and one on picc. Thats my perfect flute section for a wind ensemble. smile Karu_Chan right now im playing symphoney 41 it goes so fast my fingers seem to have a mind of their own hehe, muscle memory is like a flutist's best friend sometimes. nappy Salutations! I'm mainly an alto sax player but I also play flute on the side^^ I just have a used Yamaha that I got for Christmas last year. I love to play my friends' music on it and watch them be amazed that I can play Yay! Alto Sax is my second instrument. I'm thinking about playing it in pep band this year... haven't decided yet. My flute and piccolo are both yamahas. The great thing about yamaha is that they make beautiful sounding flutes and awesome marching instruments. If any of you are looking for a piccolo, I suggest you start off on a solid metal yamaha - especially if its for marching band. They're uber-easy to tune compared to most other piccs. smile Hmmm. I'm thinking about playing oboe in concert band, but that would mean I wouldn't be playing me flute in an ensemble... So maybe I'll just stick with flute... unless theres a flute choir or something. biggrin

It was pretty funny xd Another time in jazz band the trombone gets a solo, and we only have one trombone and shes HORRIBLE. everyone knows it too, and after the song was over she said 'Yeah... Not telling him, though. xd Haha, we have four trombones in our jazz band... one girl and three guys. The girl just switched from clarinet - I hear she's doing okay. One of the junior guys gets all the solos, and he's really good, so it's not a problem. That's hilarious, though. XDDD Yes... she knows my every thought... well, my every thought about the flute players, anyway. XD I know a bunch of Sarahs - the flute player, my best friend in fifth grade (who, coincidentally, also played flute for a while), another friend of mine who sits next to me in history, and now you. XD I know more Brandons, though... don't even get me started on that list.

XD I know more Brandons, though... don't even get me started on that list. Everytime I looked at our trombone section when we were in concert set none of then moved their slide at the same time xd They all seem to hit the right notes at the same time though. omg what sucks is when you have a trombone and a mellophone player sitting behind you during the game eek they're so loud they like blow out ur eardrums xd My friend told the mellophone player to put his horn up to my back and then blow into it whee it has a really weird feeling. Your whole entire body starts vibrating and then I shivered xd Brandons huh? I only know one kid named Brandon. HOWEVER, there's TONS of people named John. In just our band there's four people named John! It gets really confusing, especially since two of them are section leaders and the BD is always shouting our 'John!' and all em' turn and look, 3 of them just to be told 'Not you!'. Half of them don't even respond to their name anymore xd I was playing my brothers trumpet today cuz' I might play it next year for jazz band instead of sax, though I highly doubt it. I pretty much thought it would be fun to take up learning how to play another instrument, and so I learned about 7 notes on the trumpet. My mouth is so sore though! I wonder how people can sit there and play it straight for hours at a time, but then they are probably used to it since they've been playing it for years.

Haha, I know, none of ours ever move at the same time anyway. I think there's like three or four different trombone parts usually, though. I've never had the trombones sit behind me before - the trombones are always in front during games. And our school doesn't have mellophones, so.... We had a kid named John in band my freshman year... he dropped though. That's the only John we've ever had in band, at least to my knowledge. And there's only one Brandon in band (tenor-guy), but there's also my brother, my best guy friend, another friend, my friend's ex, and a kid in my history class. XD I know what you mean about the trumpet hurting your mouth! I played my brother's when he was still playing trumpet. It was fun, but painful after a while. ^^;; Though, sax does the same thing at first. I couldn't even get all the way through a song when I first started sax. That's what I like about flute. No mouth pain. 3nodding

It can get really confusing when you're trying to talk about one person and someone thinks you're talking about another. Oh great. I get to go through the same thing with a sax xd If I would have listened to my friend in 6th grade and played the clarinet I would never had to of learn how to play another instrument xd But then, it IS fun learning something new. We had a pep rally today at the end of the school day since we're still in the playoffs. The stupid cheerleaders kept running in the middle of the band! They were so annoying whee I love pep rallies tho cuz then the band gets to play at em' and we stand in concert set and I stand right behind the tenor-guy xd heart 3nodding

I refer to all my friends by instruments. Oboe-girl... tenor-guy... drummer-girl.... XD I LOVE learning new instruments. I'm trying to convince my parents to buy me cheap used instruments off E-Bay just so I can learn them. ^^ It's so much fun. Right now I want a clarinet or something like that. Dunno why, just do. We haven't had a pep rally all year... our gym was flooded in August and it just recently became useable by PE classes again... but we still can't have assemblies in it for another week or two because we can't pull out the bleachers just yet. I miss our assemblies.

I agree, it is fun to learn new instruments after you're past your mouth being sore xd I'm constantly switching instruments with my clarinet friends and I'm trying to learn how to play the fight song. One time I saw my friend soaking her reed before she put it on and she like molested it with her tongue whee that was disgusting, and I'm willing to bet she did it just because I was there xd eek Your gym was FLOODED?! dang... thats gotta suck sad I don't have to take PE til next year and then I never have to take it again. Everytime we have a pep rally the guy with the mic always does these shout outs for every class. The freshman are always getting all the boos whee We did this weird thing at the pep rally today.. there was this race between two people where they had to spin a round a bat like 10 times then run across the gym and scarf down cake then run back xd
