You hear the loud pop of a branch breaking deeper in the forest. After a moment of consideration, taking in the dense bluish mist rising from the forest floor, you set off in the sound's direction. It could be nothing, but it's worth investigating… as long as you're careful.
You win two points this turn.

You pause for a moment to get your bearings and cannot resist taking in the breathtaking beauty of the autumnal wood. Even with the weather overcast the vivid scarlets and yellows of the foliage are as rich as dyed velvet against the gray sky and the black trunks of the trees. Gazing into the infinite reaches of the forest is like looking into stained glass…
When you turn back around an enormous fox with a luxurious pelt is standing directly in your path, watching you. Its eyes seem amused, somehow. It quickly dashes off into the undergrowth before you can react — but at least now you have a pretty good idea of where you should be heading.
You win four points this turn.

You happen upon a blood-spattered branch, but there is no sign of the creature that once sat there. Investigating further, however, you find a few tattered hawk feathers lost among the leaves. This scene tells a story you will probably never know.

You stop to examine a leafless buckthorn shrub covered in eggplant-colored berries. Some of its lower branches have been bent and broken, but these branches appear to have been dead for a long time, so there's no telling when the event occurred. This is poor evidence of an animal's trail, but it's better than nothing.
You win one point this turn.

You have reached a creek. Its narrow length is lined with rocks and moss, and bright autumn leaves meander downstream, turning languidly in the current. As you draw nearer you notice faint markings in the mud between two rocks: fox prints, almost entirely worn away by time. They aren't recent, but knowing the animal's preferred path is still somewhat useful.
You win one point this turn.

((No problem! Rabbit #4 is yours, please claim him by posting in certing at your earliest convenience!))
You spy a splash of blood on a single yellow leaf on the ground. When you examine it, the blood looks fresh. Strangely there are no trees in the area with such distinctly golden foliage, but this is still excellent evidence of an animal's trail… isn't it?
After some time of continued searching, however, you are forced to come to the conclusion that you've been waylaid by a prankster — or an unnaturally clever fox.
You lose two points this turn.

Jack blinked and stared at the spot where the spirit had stood only a moment ago. The ease with which he had disappeared was rather disconcerting to a soldier who was meant to fight against at least one of his kind - not to mention a great deal many wolves. However, he did his best to shunt his discomfort aside for the time being and focus on there here and now. There was no guarantee that Llyr's suggestion would prove fruitful, but then, there was no particular reason not to give it a try, either.
"Alright, then," he told the rabbit. "This way it is, then."

Kugrah startles and snorts, shaking his head at the shrills cry that breaks the silence. Elsbeth gives a faint shudder, herself. Such a terrible sound, she thinks, and as the quiet settles in after it the woods seem, somehow, to loom closer. She glances about herself, warily, and curls her fingers into the warm, soft, fur of her guardian's neck. The buck glances back at her with one gold eye, and Elsie smiles a little, as if to reassure him, though it's also to reassure herself.
"It's alright. Let's head in the direction of that cry -- I'll bet that fox just found itself a meal. Perhaps we'll catch it unawares."

The musky scent of what he guessed was fox urine filled his nose as Conri continued to walk along. It took him a while to find the source, but when he did, he was certain that he was on the right track. Smiling, Conri moved on. He would find a fox yet.

Frances felt a chill as she stepped through the clearing, as though she were being watched. She scanned the area but, as before, saw no creature, human or otherwise. Stepping over the fairy ring, she quickly continued onward.

(Hope I do this right...)
Renaud crashed through the underwood, spinning haphazardly about as the autumn claws of leaf-bare trees snatched at his fine, gray coat. He hrumphed and grunted indignation; tried to focus bleary eyes on his assailants; and stumbled backward as he searched for them in a generous swig of wine from a half-drunken bottle. The gentleman -- the rapscallion -- smacked his lips and peered into his bottle.
His head felt fuzzy. What was he doing here again? Oh yes, proving a point. Hunting foxes for sport was an exercise in futility for anyone but the fox. Why else would Renaud go tramping about the Wardwood at night in search of one? To win a wager, of course.

It seemed these woods were dotted with traces of the animal, which was probably why she kept stumbling on old tracks. Which meant she'd have to step-up her game and keep on course for the real things. Frowning fiercely, she picked a different set of markings and steered clear of the river.

Her rabbit's ears stood straight up. It did not look happy about the sounds coming out of the forest. Kristine was on edge. "This was a horrible idea," she muttered.
She picked up her bunny, and went the direction of the noise. Was finding the fox even what she wanted anymore? This creature could rip her apart. She would die in this dark and spooky forest just to satisfy her curiosity. Clearly, she was not thinking right.

He was not expecting to get roughed up at all, much less by a tree. His ego was more bruised than his stinging hand. McSweeney caressed the bark of the tree, committing it to memory. Even if it didn't produce any resin or bark oil, vengeance would be his. He would have the lumbers slice it up as dainty service pieces to display his perfumes. He would have the last laugh. A solid thunk to it later as a promise for retribution, he was on his merry little way.
