In one instant, Mimsy's carefully crafted wall of composure broke, and something snapped; she threw her notes to the floor and reached for Dakota, eyes flashing.

"No s**t. In coming here I have learned that my entire past is riddled with things that I couldn't control despite my belief otherwise. I have learned that the shadow that broke me has a name. My past has struck me, maimed me, touched me, turned me to stone; I am not naive enough to think that I have gotten the worst of this, especially considering the fact that I have been here only eleven months' time. My point is that there are substantial dangers in these segments of our past, but we have remembered through these trials that humans present a danger as well. We are the ones after the entities of the past that 'bite us in the a**'. We spent too long fixated on the shadows from the past when there was trouble in the light. If we divide ourselves, we can focus on both."

Considering Kostya's well-being did, however, bring her pause. She had no answer for those questions. They were things that she didn't want to think about, and neglecting to do so had put her in an unfortunate position. She'd chosen, and trying to go back to them wouldn't really be met with open arms, would it? It would only make things more difficult for her, a boxed in world with an open door in comparison.

She might have come up with something anyway, were he not kissing her. Something surged through her, replaced quickly by anger. What made him think he could just do that? She knew the complications that had arisen from Kostya's 'accident', and here he was, trying to...she couldn't even fathom what he was trying to do, but it infuriated her that he would even try.

"Why did you do that? Do you really think I would let feelings change my mind?" she spat, despite knowing that she was letting her feelings get the best of her, though they were emotions of a different sort. It was fortunate that he chose to step away, because she lunged for him again, stopped by the saw-toothed weapon between them. She shrunk back, ashamed, and looked to Lucky. He hadn't chosen yet, not outwardly at least, but he respected her decision, and just that much earned her continued respect towards him.

"Thank you, Lucky," she murmured, smoothing her coat. Though her hands were still shaking as she moved them over the white fabric, she seemed to be trying to piece her calm back together.

Leon was not going to budge, he was fine by his little desk and all it stood for. "You claim they did it but have no proof to show as such, threaten us with a bomb and now you want us to join you?" the chuckle that followed afterwards was low, accentuated by the banging of his fist on the desk for emphasis. "Sorry but I'm not falling for th-"

And Dwight could not wait just five minutes. "Jeeze Dwight, you can at least wait a few minutes to do that outside the public setting."

Otto remained in his seat the entire time, idly drawing circles in the table with a finger.

Lex gave the entire room an exasperated look, shaking his head at everyone that decided they would side with the proverbial Oz. Really? This person was blowing up the island, seemingly, and they were going to join him (or her)? Their leaders may have sent them into places where they could all die, but at least they were fighting the actual enemy.

Stroking Ami's hand with his thumb to comfort the girl, he whispered small comforts to keep her okay in the darkness. Lex didn't like it either, but he felt like he needed to do something for the petite woman.

"Solia...you know this isn't the way to go."

Jason was pulling on her heartstrings and it hurt. She'd made her decision based on the desire for knowledge and change. A choice of the unknown. In her mind the siren was calm, humming a soothing melody as Solia's nerves began to fray. Jason shouldn't be holding her like this. Shouldn't be telling her things she wanted to hear. This wasn't a way to end things. Not really. This was a gearshift. A possible altering of the path they had already taken.

"You're not like that Jason." She whispered, leaning into his arm. "You believe in people in a way I can't. You're sweet and kind, I don't think I've ever seen you get mad and..." A squeeze to his hand, she felt the siren's humming turn to singing. She really was scared. Scared for Jason.

"Please Jason. You want to protect people and I-" gaze cast down to the hem of her coat. "I'm not nice Jason. I'm not good at that. Deep down... I do want to change things, and I need power to do that. This might accelerate my goals but in the end I'm making a gamble. I don't think power is given. You can't just get power from deals with faceless entities. It's earned with time. I need to find if I can use power, if I can maybe do what I need to one day. It's.... it' backwards and hard to explain." Her whisperings towards him were matched with nervous brown eyes that stared up at him.

"This isn't your place Jason. Your place is with your division, with protecting people." Letting go of his arm, her hands folded across her chest. "I don't need protection from my own choices." She smiled, though it wasn't very bright. "I'll be okay without you." Pushing him away she went to the edge of the portal.

Pausing to smile softly at Lex, she shook her head. "If you move in the cycle things remain chained to the limitations of their flow. To remove yourself from the path of repetition... It's a chance for a change."

A deep breath, She gave herself a small running running start before jumping headfirst into the portal.

Considering Dakota was known for getting people's temper to flare, it didn't surprise him when the Life huntress threw her notes on the ground, It was dark but he could tell the move would mean scattering all her knowledge and plans. All because he was making her question herself. had they been in any other situation, he would've been amused. Now, he was just annoyed at the three hunters who sought truth from some mysterious voice.

Seriously? Were they stupid?

"I'm sorry, do you now get what the situation is?" Dakota held his hand up to cut her off and looked at Jason too. "You want to know why our leaders, the other half of the council doesn't care? Because whether or not they did it, There is a bigger concern than some guy playing this stupid game. Jesus ******** christ Mimsy. What sane person, goes into a room where men had laid dead before, PLANT papers and a box and then force us in a room to VOTE on who killed the council. WHAT KNOWLEDGE COULD YOU POSSIBLY GAIN, FROM A MAN WHO THREATENED TO BLOW UP PART OF DEUS?"

Dakota spread his arms out. "Do you see anyone else here joining the party of three musketeers who want to find the so called truth? No! Why? Because WE HAVE IT NOW. The council is dead, Our leaders are accused, some madman is running around with portals and inviting dimwitted and easy to manipulate hunters to his side."

When he saw the saw of Lucky's weapon coming down, Chama's sword lit even higher, not taking kindly to the stranger interfering. He didn't jump, and only annoyance flickered in the moon hunters eyes. It was a warning, not a challenge and had it been, Dakota would've accepted and wiped the floor with Lucky. Oh that might not be a bad idea, knock all of their heads together and then tie them up in the corner-

"Because I can." Dakota snorted at her, It seemed for a brief moment she had been a little flustered at the kiss but...shrugged at Lucky now, mentally calming his phoenix down and brushing the trainee off. "It's lucky-" Haha, "that you've never had the time or inclination to realize what going against orders or your leaders has done to you, to seek out a truth that didn't exsist. Your cousin Clerise was put up for sacrifice when I did it. If this is seen as a betrayal to your leaders, I would hate to see what happens when you come back with this guys truth that was nothing more than a bratty old man trying to get his revenge for events we weren't even PART OF."

Rep was watching events unfold on the floor and was convinced Dakota was simply trying to secure himself further sex in his future by stopping the stern huntress from leaving.

"Why the ******** are you even trying?" he said, despite the fact he felt like he knew. "They might as well go through the ******** portal man. The second they stepped into the middle they set themselves up for sahara exile and s**t. Loyalty is important. "

This was getting out of hand. A person's choices were their own to make. Enforcing a personal view upon others was annoying at best, a hellhole at worst. And for Marcus, it was becoming increasingly annoying to watch Dakota and Mimsy banter. Marcus knew his friend had his heart in the right place, but watching this was like watching the moon try to get laid on a beach of lesbians. A brick wall of no.

"Technically speaking I doubt any of us can call ourselves sane Dakota." Dis out, Marcus leaned lightly on the scimitar, watching the life and moon bicker like an old married couple. "Look-" he reached out to pat the younger man on the shoulder, "-they have to learn on their own time what it means to break away from orders, what happens when you fall out of line. If they want to make their dumb choice, let them. This isn't a thing we can teach them... As moons, we protect people from outside forces. You can't protect a person from themselves."

A pointed look to Jason, silently expressing his disappointment in the trainee.

A heavy sigh Marcus gave Dakota's shoulder a squeeze. "This isn't a fight you can win. This isn't something you can protect her from." He said in a hushed tone.

"Mimsy", he looked to the life hunter, "you know what entails for traitors, should this really be a defection from Deus ex?"

"You're going to get about as many answers through THERE as HERE, Jason," Jerry's expression was still wrought with worry.

But at least it wasn't a bomb.

Rep's comment regarding Sahara made him pale again, his grip tightening on his weapon. "Whoever that is even SAID- if you're just there out of CURIOSITY, he's going to KILL YOU. If you don't want to follow him, he'll... he'll probably BRAINWASH you if he DOESN'T kill you. So... so FINE if you... you guys want to play TERRORIST then... then have fun!" It was idiotic, it was insane, and he really wanted to just go back to bed. He wished he hadn't responded to that dumb note.

Things went on in deus the same way they always did. If one day HE would become a leader by killing Simon or Allan? Maybe that's just how the padawan replaced the Jedi around here. Maybe things were corrupt and their leaders had simply set things right.

Whatever. Whatever whatever, he was standing by his morals. These were the people who had taken them in, trained them, turned them into soldiers, given them all a chance at LIFE.

Dakota was still trying, had the nerve to still try, and any calm that had been setting in was wiped away in a flash. Mimsy teetered on her heels, palm pressed against the blunt edge of Song, reasoning with herself that the weapon was a barrier and she couldn't leap past it to earn an exile-by-murder.

<Kiss him again, ohh, wasn't that lumdrum and pleasantry!> Svensyl sang in the tones of a smashed trumpet over his words, helpful as always.

"Shut up!" she hissed, snatching the cameo brooch off of her coat so quickly it tore a small hole. She threw it as hard as she could across the room, which, of course, just made it appear on her coat again. A little lopsided this time. Frowning as hard as she could possibly frown, she turned to Dakota just in time to glare at the mention of her cousin's name.

"Sanity is hardly the best argument here. We have the illusion of truth, the hint of it, but I want to see more. To see the insides. That is all I have ever wanted: to inspect everything beneath a microscope, and inspect that under a stronger microscope, and so on and so forth until there is nothing smaller to see. I cannot be complacent with just an answer. I would be nowhere if not from the progress made by people who were not satisfied with just one answer."

Her fingers curled around the edge of the weapon, nails scraping out a sound fit for her annoyance.

"I do not care what Clerise did for you, and will accept no comparison of our situations." Her tone went icy, frown turning to a sneer. "I wish she had died for it. And if they discover their mistake and wish that I should, so be it."

She stepped back, intending to move around Song and into the portal, stopping to respond to a question of defection.

"My reason for being here no longer exists. It has not for slightly beyond eight months. All new reasons presented to me here have been appeals to emotion, which are strong tactics, but ultimately I refuse to prioritize emotion. I stay because there is no other option. Was no other option. If truth in knowledge awaits me elsewhere, elsewhere I will go. It is the most logical conclusion for someone in my position. Should this lead to death or exile - it still remains the most logical choice."

Ami had a close eye on you Otto. You so much as got up to stretch and she'd be there kicking your a**. You're not leaving. Nope.

"Oy, while all this arguing? Let the traitors go. It's one less grave to build." She couldn't understand why Dakota and Jerry felt so inclined to lure them back. It would probably be easier with most of them gone; less weeds to rat out. Jason got a twinge of sympathy from Ami- she rather liked the boy as he was useful. Solia couldn't have been ushered through the portal faster. The only loss Mimsy gave Ami was her translation abilities. Well that was a bummer. "Even if you convince them, the leaders are right ******** there."

Did they really think Caelius, Edith and H were going to say "Oh Solia, Jason, Mimsy it's no big deal! You've shown signs of being a traitor, but hey! Let's get back to hunting those monsters!"

Ami leaned back in her chair. There was that creepy little smile again. "They've made their irrevocably stupid decision. Let them reap what they sow."

There was another wrench and the teeth came free of the floor, and the rest of the saw with it. She cursed his choice, and he paid her little mind.

"I thought," and he struggled to find the clarity in his words he desperately wanted now of all times, "I thought this game. Puzzle. Test. I did not think... I did not believe... such thing as true. That hunter vould kill hunter, for vhat? I choose here, this path, to protect vorld from shadows in all forms. From monsters who kill the people. Vhatever form they take."

"I do not knowing vhat is on other side. Perhaps is all wrong too. But ve do not have truth of this yet." He shifted uncomfortably, gripped the handle tighter still, as if the weapon was the only defense separating him from the danger in the room. "I choose to know."

So, death now, or death later? He began to walk backwards, holding up Song like a sword. As if expecting at any moment Dakota, or someone else, would lunge for him. With his other hand he grabbed for Mimsy's wrist, for the cuff of her jacket.

His eyes darted from face to disapproving face. To the leaders who sat waiting, weeding out the naive and hopeful. The hum of the portal grew louder in his ears, until finally, it drowned out all else.

Dakota could only grit his teeth as the two lifers made their choice. Instead he looked at Marcus, understanding that the moon hunter felt his needs just as well.

"Fine." Was all the moon hunter added. He stalked off to a corner of the room. Stupid people wanted to die? Fine. Friends aNd family wanted to leave them behind? Yeah that really sounded humane. Rep and Ami were right though, Dakota had made the mistake of doi g what Mindy and lucky had done, guess the best way was learning.

He cursed in his corner about stupid illogical women and Russians...or whatever Lucky was.

Gale was no longer looking at Mark because Dwight you are one awkward human being and he doesn't want to see that sort of thing this early in the morning.

The portal in front of them glowed eerily, and Gale eyed it with some apprehension, wariness settling into his features. Solia was first to step through, and then it seemed a few others, but for the most part there was an unsettling feeling that was shifting around them. The tension in the room was almost palpable, almost so thick that he could reach out and touch it.

<< Well? >>

Well, what?

<< What are you going to do, short stack? >>

Gale thought about it for a moment, tapping a gloved finger against the barrel of his rifle. He glanced sideways at Caelius, looking as bored and irritable as ever, then down at Mark - then quickly back up away from Mark ( << Awkward. >> ), and finally looked sideways at Deryk, standing next to him.

<< Gale? >>

I'm gonna do what I always do, Ginny. Be a Death Hunter.

He reached up a hand and clapped it on the Deryk's shoulder.

"Make sure Mark doesn't do anything too stupid while I'm gone," said Gale, and grinned.

Then he darted across the room, quick as a flash, and leapt through the portal.

A very, very sad look.

Why would he ...

Ahhhh ...

Well the plot had certainly thickened.
