((By what logic? That honestly doesn't make any sense at all.))
Raven clucked his tongue slightly. This wasn't good. It would seem that backed in to a corner of the Larvesta had suddenly grown strong. Most other foes would have gone down at this point, stepped back, this one wouldn't allow any quarter. For it Raven could give only one command "Fable, stand your ground!" Evasion wasn't their strong suit, and countering again would have been blatantly suicidal.
Spreading his stance again, Fable lowered his tail to the ground to aid in his balance. Claws attempted to dig into the concrete as the Fire-type held out his arms. His intent was to catch the Larvesta rather then repel it, choosing muscle over thick skin.
Starter Pokemon: Charmander [M] Name & Level: Fable, Lv 8 [Temperament] Quiet Bio: Raven first met Fable during his time living on the streets, finding the fire-tailed reptile in one of hundreds of alleys he'd been in. Battered, beaten, and bloodied, it was clear the Charmander had seen it's fair share of battles...and lost every single one. He bit Raven only five seconds after their initial encounter. Fable had lost all trust in humanity. Raven was never fully aware of the details, but the Charmander's former trainer had been abusive. He'd placed him in battles with impossible odds, expecting him to combat and defeat opponent after opponent with little to no rest...and when he lost, it was his trainer whom would personally add to the reptiles injuries. Finally tired of wasting his time on "some worthless newt" his trainer had abandoned him in the dirtiest alleyway he could find and just left him there. The boy hadn't even given him a name...at least not one he cared to repeat.
For days after that first encounter Raven returned to the alley, usually meeting with the same result; yet still he kept coming, sometimes he even brought food. It was generally scraps most likely out of the garbage, but it was food none the less. One day the Charmander finally asked why the child kept returning...not with words of course, but with his eyes. The curiosity at the boy's actions were clear in the reptiles gaze. Raven had said he saw a fire in Fables eyes that day when they first met, the desire to become truly powerful. More time passed after that, but the only thing which mattered after that point was the outcome. Even without a Pokeball the Charmander decided to follow the boy from that day forward, even earning the name Fable in the process. Raven would speak of spending the reward money on new clothes and a bath, but what was consistently leave out was the purchase of a single Pokeball. There was no need. (It's less confusing for one ....remember, Counter-attack is actually done during a defense turn. YOu don't magically get two attacks turns because you used Counter-attack ...you sacrificed your defense to attack again. So, why should the critical up your attack turn if you actually used it on your defense turn?)
THe move would work as the crowd went wild....as the pokemon was literally held at bay by the pokemon's move. The Lavesta would shiver in surprise as the girl would squint a bit. SHe was shocked as well, not many could stop that pokemon at full rage like that ....as he would slide to the ground in front and then curl up inches in front of his opponent.
He needed to gain more power, and he needed to defend. Thus, he would work on gathering more flames internally as he lays down and let the flames gather upwards ...and inwards.

((Isn't less confusing for me, and as I see it the rules become more complicated as a result. Why would it being a counter-attack matter? An attack is an attack, defense is a defense.))
Raven's placid expression didn't waver, he simply watched intently and gave his command "Growl" It's defense was as strong as it's attack his time, and he knew they couldn't penetrate it.
Fable did as commanded, a low toned growl rumbling in his throat and directed menacingly at the Larvesta.

(Because, the critical is based on which turn it was rolled on ...for one, and for two, that is one of the flaws of using a counter-attack. You don't gain critical for it, so it's not just ...you use it twice and get injured but a 20 just does injury ...you don't gain anything special from it.)
The move would fail this time as the Lavasta would uncurl as he glares at him. He would then sprint forward swiftly as he lower his head for another Zen headbutt. Though his flames were higher, he wasn't using it just yet ...no, he needed to place a strong hit to his opponent stomach while he got the opening.
The pokemon's eyes were narrowed as he lunged.

Ada would be left stunned as the man spoke, though it'd all quickly boil down into anger. How dare he. She of all people wouldn't be so kind as to let him get away with that sort of thing. Why, she had half a mind to lash her tongue out at him right now! If he wanted to get nasty, then she woul-
Ah, he was gone.
Deciding it wasn't worth her time, she'd mutter some curse words beneath her breath and give the clown the best stink eyes she could muster before walking off. Clowns were dumb anyways, maybe karma would deal him a swift hand by getting him stuck in one of those tiny cars or something.
But...what now? Her professor was supposedly at the circus, but trying to find him alone would be like picking out a needle from a haystack. She didn't have much business besides that.
Ah! There was always that chimchar she brought in. The entirely wild one she left alone in a place of business under the premise it was hers. The one that would definitely be scared and confused if it woke up alone in a building full of people, of all places. The one she'd be responsible for if it caused any kind of trouble. The one that probably did cause trouble. Haha. Crap.
The injuries were pretty bad, but by the time she got out of this crowd and walked to the pokemon center she had to be at least a little better. So, Ada would begin to push her way through the human traffic around her, hoping to make it to the pokemon center before anything got out of hand.

The movement of power ...the quickness of speed .....soon had a hand grip her shoulder as his face would drop towards her own ...as she hurry for the exit.
"Ada?"
The Professor would declare as she practically shoved him to the side, and only swift moment had him gripping her arm. The man had a big ball of cotton candy in one hand, while the other grip her shoulder.
"So, finally at least one of you have shown up."
he smiled at them.

((It was never 'just' you use it twice and you get injured. It is most majorly 'you fail and take 2x the damage'! Which is a major drawback, do we really need a third? Now I understand your point about the turn thing, but I've always viewed it as a 'did you attack or defend' type of thing. Placing mechanics aside for a moment the entire concept is broken from a story standpoint. There is no logical reason for them not to receive a Critical in this one instance. This is Entei. This mechanic has turned in to Sleeping Entei.))
Raven's eyes narrowed as he watched the battle progress, they'd gotten off to a good start but the tides were quickly shifting. They'd need to finish this Larvesta off quickly or suffer the consequences. "FABLE!" A sharp resounding call. The young trainer would say only that single word, but that was not the end of it.
Responding to his name Fable suddenly moved, stepping to the side and and slamming his tail to the ground. It was a bit of a risk leaving part of his body in harms way; but they had a plan. Thinking in perfect sync the pair were attempting to trip up the Larvesta, hoping to create an opening for their next attack!
One which would come swiftly in the form of Fable releasing another fiery blast of Ember!

It would end in that trip and flame ...as the Lavrvesta was knocked out cold. The pokemon's eyes rolling as the girl would recall her partner with a sad look on her face.
She hated to lose, but there was nothing she could do about it ...as he calls her pokemon back to it's pokeball and then release the next one.
"Go ...Scramble."
She said the words almost as a whisper as it would seem that the type of pokemon that this girl dealt with was quite clear ...bug types as she released simply enough the evolution of her pokemon from before as the Volcarona would take to the sky. The pokemon's entire body was radiating power as she flap her wings as she floated next to her trainer's head as the girl raises one hand and touches the pokemon's delicate wings. Though considering it was a good 5"03 and easily as tall as her trainers ...delicate wasn't the idea that came to mind.

Raven would resist the strong urge to sputter at the sight of their opponent. Were he not so consumed by rage Fable likely would have fallen over. For a single instant Raven's eyes would widen, his mouth going dry. A Volcarona! How was it even possible for such a low level one to exist! Why did this girl even HAVE such a thing!? A million questions popped up in Raven's thoughts...but after a moment he would push them all aside. This was a test. Nothing more, nothing less. He'd sworn to himself to see this round through to the end with Fable and Fable alone, and so that was exactly what he'd do.
"Fable!" The boy barked, eyes set forward and narrowing "Be ready! This won't be easy." The understatement of biblical proportions. They were a mere candle before the entire sun; but even a sun could perish when the right time came. That time would just have to be now.
Smoke rising from his nostrils Fable simply held his ground, his blood boiling too hot to deliver any sort of intelligent response. It would appear the pair of them weren't backing down an inch.

The girl seemed a bit confused, she was expecting a switch out as she waited patiently. The Volacarona would simply continued to stay at her side ...as she saw that eventually there was not going to be a switch. The commentator seeing the pause of both fighters would make some comment about an intense stare down, but the girl saw that her opponent simply wanted her to strike first.
Why?
The answer was clear ....he must be afraid of her pokemon.
She reached up to stroke his underbelly.
"Use Zen Headbutt."
She could have gone with a much stronger attack, but she wanted to wait to face a much more monsterous foe before such a thing would be displayed as the bug pokemon would lower her head before she speed forward.

Raven narrowed his eyes at the sight of the oncoming Volcarona. He couldn't deny this situation filled him a some lingering dread. It wasn't exactly the ideal situation for himself and Fable to find themselves in, but at the same time there was a hint of anticipation. This was a real challenge, a true test of strength, and if they managed to overcome it they would be one giant step farther along their chosen path. It was these feelings which dictated his next command "Fable, handle this in the same manner as the Larvesta!"
Raven wouldn't be surprised if the crowd gasped right about then, after all his order was blatantly insane. Yet the boy's Chamander would react on those words without a seconds hesitation. Widening his stance the Fire-type would attempt to dig his heels in to the floor, lowering his tail in an attempt to aid his balance. Arms out, claws at the ready, hazy red eyes focused in a single direction. Fable was going to attempt to 'catch' the Volcarona in the same manner he had it's predecessor, and if it succeeded...well it'd make for quite the sight!

The bigger pokemon would be stopped as it's head was only inches from Fable as those huge wings continued to push and send the air in front of him ...flicking forward in huge gust and waves. It was a tremedous catch as the fire bug would glare at it's opponent in front before she would change her angle ...her trainer's voice came only moments afterwards.
"Lift him."
There was a big differences between her and the crawling bug from before ...as she flaps her wings harder and harder, and faster and faster as she sought to change his catch into a an upward flight if he didn't do something to stop her soon, and once off of the ground ...his attack capabilities would be reduced by half.

Yes there was a significant difference in size this time; both between the Volcarona and it's predecessor, as well as between it and Fable. It was precisely that which worked to their advantage in this situation! "Fable climb on to her back and take her for a spin!" Raven commanded. Yup his was ordering Fable to ride his opponent like a Ponyta. The boy's sanity was clearly in question.
Still the child's Charmander would react without question, his claws strengthening their grip and digging in to the insects fur. Muscles straining against his own wait the Fire-Type would swing around to the Volcarona's back. Once there he would hold on tight, awaiting his next order.
An order of which he would not wait long "FIRE PUNCH!" Raven's voice rang clear. He didn't want their to be any doubt of his command. Releasing oen claw from the Volcarona's back the Fable's arm would begin secreting it's natural, and highly flammable, oils. Rather than using his tail flame to ignite the limb however the Charmander would strike against the insects own ember scaled wings! In an instant Fable's fist would light up, rising up and swinging down to meet with the back of his opponent's head in a less than ordinary Fire Punch!

The move would hit ....as the fire type would be caught in the head, but the girl wasn't worried. She should have been but she wasn't at that moment ....as she shouts out.
"TWIST in the air ....he is going for a ride, so give him one ...a true ride."
This was probably a stupid thing to do, but she would do it ....anyway ...as she rose higher and higher into the air. Everything about her attack was design to sweep her opponent into the realm of helplessness as she soar higher and higher into the sky ...as she twist herself around and around, and instead of her firing her gust beyond herself she would actually encircle herself in a gust of wind.
This was an improvise version of Gust.

Raven scowled quietly as he listened to the girl's commands and watched the actions of her Pokemon, as well as those of his own. Fable's tail flame swayed and flicked with the increased air flow, but the Charmander was hardly budging as it clung tight to the Volcarona's white fur. He was about to take a risk just as his opponent was, but should it succeed the effort would certainly be worthwhile. "Fable another Fire Punch! Knock this buggy bronco out of the air!" Raven commanded, his voice coming out a sharp bark which stung his throat.
The child's Charmander would give a brief unintelligible growl, his tail snapping to one side and striking the Volcarona's wing. A shower of tiny sparks flew in to the air. Again Fable would release his right claws grip on the Volcarona, allowing natural oils to heavily secrete from between his scales. Unlike before however the Fire-Type would return to the normal method igniting his arm, reaching back and passing the limb through his tail. When they open claws returned a clenched and fiery fist the Charmander would swing it with all his might, this time aiming for the middle of the Volcarona's back, between it's shoulders and more importantly it's wings. True to Raven's command he was trying to knock them out of the sky!
