Now, Rutilio was acting incredibly stupid. You don't flirt with a girl who's taken. he went over to him and gave him a good smack on the back of his head "Hey, knock it off!" he was embarrassing himself.

Rutilio squeaked in surprise when Cuba hit him and looked back at the older man with a pout. "What did you do that for?" he complained unhappily. "That wasn't even dirty..." Perhaps a little rude, but not quite dirty and certainly not the worst he could think to say.

"Why no--Ack!" Florida flailed as he was pulled into the head lock. The younger man knew better than to try to resist one of Cuba's holds and just did his best not to move in any way that could hurt himself or encourage his friend to tighten the grip. There had been many times this scenario hadn't played out too well for him when others had decide to physically punish the state for being a little too pesky. "Ok, ok! I will be good!" Rutilio said quickly. "You are worse than a papa bear!"

"I said you are a kind and gentle person who would never hurt a poor, helpless little state?" Rutilio tried as he tilted his head in an attempt to flash his big, bright blue eyes sweetly at Cuba like an innocent fawn. Oh, boy. He was in for it now and hoped if that didn't work then maybe throwing out a few sad faces might get someone to take pity on him.

Hey, it worked against Germany during World War II! Hopefully he could count on his former Spanish family to be just as merciful as the Nazi.

"Hm, that's true... But, no one likes a kiss a**." Juan let him go, but not because of his puppy-dog eyes, it was because he looked quite pathetic. "Now, don't do anything stupid." knowing him, he'd do the opposite of what he said. That's like telling him 'dont push the red button', it'd just tempt him to push it.

A note of surprise escaped Romero’s as he was tugged backwards at the waist. The unexpected retreat also caused him to pull the flimsily secured piñata out of the crevice in the ceiling he had found, and it plopped neatly into his hands. A pair of lightly tanned hands encircled his waist, and a weight rested itself on his shoulder, tickling his cheek with its blonde curls. Romero knew well before he heard her voice that it was Juliana who had hauled him back. “Meu caro…” she breathed softly.

He turned around to face her, a half-smile etched upon his face, the detached piñata in his hands, and she giggled in elation at having gotten him to turn around. “We forgot to put the eggs in!” she laughed.

Romero could’ve slapped himself for hoping that she had something else for him. “How silly of me!” he told her with a laugh before schooling his expression into something more neutral. “Would you pass me the jello?” he asked.

She let go readily and handed him the bowl, still grinning as if she had had too much to drink. Privately, the Venezuelan wondered if she had indeed had too much to drink. He hadn’t minded flirting with Juliana earlier—indeed, he still sought some way to recover that kiss that Rutilio had so rudely denied him—but the warrior nation wasn’t sure how he would react if she continued flirting with him afterward. Dios, he didn’t even know if she had a boyfriend already.

Dios, he had even forgotten to invite the Brazilian to dinner to find that out for himself! But, as Romero watched Juan and Rutilio debate something heatedly with his and Juliana’s names appearing frequently in their statements, he wondered if he even should. It sounded like the gulf neighbors thought that he was Juliana’s boyfriend! He couldn’t fault them for drawing that conclusion, after all the courting games they had played this afternoon. Ruti was also giving him and the Brazilian sly looks that implied he had something cooking in his panhandle. With an effort, Romero forced himself to focus on filling the piñata, though his mind drifted frequently to wondering what the Floridian had planned.

In due time, he had filled the colorful toy to the brim with alcoholic eggs, adding slightly more tequila than vodka as he did. Romero smiled in satisfaction and, fetching a stool from the kitchen, used it to add height while he supported the piñata from below and affixed its sturdy string attachment to the ceiling. He sealed the lid with Juan’s demon glue before dismounting and backing up. “It’s all ready now!” he announced. ‘Who wants to swing first?”

Romero selfishly hoped he would have the last swing this time. Juan already got it by crushing ‘Alfred’ under a rather unorthodox hammering blow, and the Venezuelan wanted to test his might against the Cuban’s ridiculously strong glue. After watching Juliana knock the last piñata down, he had a new idea that he was certain would split this one from end to end.

Whoa, those two really did seem close. Juan didn't know Romero liked Juliana that way? But wait, didn't Luis like Juliana as well? If he did, why didn't he make a move? Guess it was just his imagination, maybe he just liked her as a friend.

"But everyone loves me~!" Florida chuckled merrily as he straightened himself. His smile dissolved into a small pout. "I would never dream of doing something stu--oh, my God! I want to take a swing~!" The excitable state abandoned their conversation midsentence when he heard it was tequila time. At least to him it meant tequila time. Rutilio all but frolicked to Romero and took the bat.

"I will take a swing! Put the bandana on!" he declared confidently although it was hard to tell what he was so confident about. It was clear by now that the glue would not break in one hit considering both Cuba and Venezuela had struggled to crack open the Alfred. Still, he didn't seem the least bit deterred nor frightened of potential failure.

Romero picked up the blindfold from where Juliana had left it tied on the table and walked up to the Floridian with it, fiddling with the knot as he went. Even though he was the one who had tied the knot, he had chosen the complete wrong knot type to use. That and Juliana’s tugging had tightened up the knot so that it was nigh on impossible to undo. As a result, the Venezuelan was still fiddling with it when he stopped next to Ruti.

The damn knot still didn’t budge. Romero, frustrated, decided to just try to fit the cloth over Ruti’s head. Did he and Juliana have the same head size? “Here you go, Rutilio,” he said, hoping that that was true. To his chagrin, as he tried unsuccessfully to force the blindfold on, the Venezuelan found that it was just too tight.

Interestingly enough, the strain had caused some internal part of the knot to slip, so that the fourth time he tried—more gently, for Ruti had protested at his angrier attempts—it came completely undone and simply fell apart, leaving a stretched and wrinkled—but untied—piece of fabric. Romero stared at it in amazement for a moment; that type of knot was not supposed to do that. Then, shrugging, he wrapped the blindfold properly around the Floridian’s head and tied it again, this time using a simple slip-knot that could be pulled apart with a light tug.Handing him the bat, Romero retreated to a safe distance to watch Ruti swing at the pinata, fully expecting him to fail.

"My head is attached to the rest of me, you know?" Florida yelped as Romero tried to strangle his head with the blindfold. Once it was finally in place Rutilio continued to sulk over the trauma he had just experienced. "Juan! Your brother has assaulted me!" he tattled even as he adjusted the blindfold to make sure it wouldn't fall off.

Luckily he didn't linger on it too long since there were more important matters to deal with. Such as starting the process of smacking the goods out of this pinata! Florida smiled his little, drunken Floridian smile at the thought of getting his hands on those jello shots. He happily raised the bat and reached out with it to give a test nudge so he could be certain where his target was then adjusted his grip and swung back in the same manner a professional baseball player might.

Baseball wasn't really his sport. Basketball and especially football appealed more to him, but New York had taught the athletic state enough that he got the basics of the game. He shifted his feet and twisted his body into the swing like he had been taught and heard a loud, solid crack...

... as the bat snapped in half against the side of the pinata.

"Yay, tequila~!" he cheered happily, unable to see what he had done with the blindfold still firmly in place as he continued to hold the broken bat. "Did any come out?"

Romero leaned casually against the largely depleted buffet table, arms folded, zealously watching for any indication that the Sunshine State might break the piñata wide open before he could take his turn. He doubted Ruti could do it in one shot, given that both he and Juan had failed to do that with the last one, but the possibility was still there, and it was enough to tense his shoulders. Romero watched in ever-increasing suspense as the Floridian aimed, postured himself, and swung.

Crack! Was that the piñata? No; a surprised Romero had to duck as the upper portion of Juan's bat snapped off and came hurtling towards him. Ruti had smashed the already overstressed bat into the hardest parts of the piñata--namely both of its front legs simultaneously-- and it had splintered in two, unable to withstand the punishment any longer. The kamikaze piece passed right through the area where the Venezuelan's head had been just a moment ago before arcing down to land with a splat right in the leftover salsa.

Romero stood and fished the offending stick out. "What tequila?" he asked Ruti. "The whole top half of your bat came off!"

A remarkable feat, really--it took quite some effort to snap a baseball bat so epicly. But it got them no closer to alcoholic bliss.

Kartlos laughed. "Either that was a really tough piñata or a really weak bat!" he said, then pulled the blindfold off of Rutilio's eyes so that his friend could see the damage he had done. "So what do we do now? Maybe we could use our fists to break it open?" he suggested, not knowing of any other object they could use. He tilted his head as he looked at the piñata, sizing it up. It didn't look that hard to break open, he thought, and he would be willing to try punching it to open it and free the delicious vodka waiting inside.
