He and Zurith watched the twin golds playing with amusement. Hopefully they wouldn't hurt anyone with their play. Those girls should really be paying attention given Yirath's protectiveness. He shook his head. Looked like the Hatching would take a bit longer than Zurith thought.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Emkin watched the twins with wide eyes. She probably wasn't the only girl. Beautiful. Being careful not to get in the way, she moved to the side. Someone else wasn't so lucky. She winced and clapped her hands to her ears for a moment. Yirath was loud. Would the pair be able to stop playing long enough to Impress?
B'nen had to agree; even if it had been mildly worrying to stand as long as they had as candidates, in the end it had really all worked out for the best. Their lifemates had finally been born, and they certainly wouldn't be lacking for company in their weyrling training. And as for the twin golds--well, instead of one girl having to take on the pressure of stepping into the Weyrwoman's shoes eventually, now she'd have another to support her? Unless the human part of the equation turned out to be competitive over status. Ah, well, the dragons knew best...
Gneisth agreed. At least, they'd have to choose Theirs first, and while he could sympathize with wanting a bit of fun within the process, causing any of the girls to stumble closer to Yirath was a recipe for disaster, the way she was on edge. There was plenty of fun to be had over here at the feeding tables and, he was sure, elsewhere in the weyr...
Ya know, Keela would have figured that by this point the girls on the Sands would have learned to stay well out of the way. Apparently not though. Sure, there was only so much that could be helped when one was knocked over by a dragon, but if they would move out of the way in the first place then there wouldn't be an issue. She did have to wonder just how long these golds would keep playing though before they finally sought out Theirs.
Their mother's growl drew the girls' attention and the pair rumbled back, flapping wet wings and generally making it clear they knew what they were up to. A louder, more forceful rumble, however, set the girls straight and they parted, turning at last to the task of searching the girls.
Side by side, they walked the rows, conversing and chittering with one another as they moved, their tails often touching . Part cute, part rude, they were stop before a girl - two queens, unimpressed - and look at her, silently debating, searching and then move on.
W'lin didn't envy those girls. To look into the eyes of two golds and be found wanting... it was likely they'd have some very drunk Candidates tonight. Shaking his head, he cast a look at Yirath and found her attentive but unmoving. Good. Perhaps she'd regained some of her grief-stricken mind in these last few crucial moments. The two golds separated suddenly, one going one way, the other peeling off in a different direction to search. They'd sensed theirs - he'd seen enough hatchings to know the signs - and were not on the hunt for their lifemates. It was a relief to know they would not choose the same person - to face such an impossible decision... he shook his head, glad indeed.
"Great stars....."
Mya shifted a bit just to prove her eyes were not playing ricks on her. Even after rubbing them with her knuckles did the two forms on the Sands not merge into one.
Twins.... Twin Queens... She had heard stories about twins before during meals from the elder Riders, but to see such a rare sight with her own eyes. It was almost as numbing as when she and Mawsith had joined as one. This was why the Queen stayed? Why she hovered over her clutch so?
Mawsith pruumed softly in the back of her throat as her muzzle nudged gently at her elbow.
*We have to protect them, Mine. Mother gave us this gift and we have to see it they are safe. They and Theirs.*
There was no denying that light in her eyes. She had made a vow and would see it through to the end.
"Not just us. Everyone." Mya motioned to her fellow Weyrlings and to those in the Stands and stilling Standing. "We all have to support and protect them. That's not a job a single pair can handle."
F'law watched the twins walking among the girls. Those last two eggs were going to wait until they had safely Impressed he bet. He gave Zurith's neck a pat. Yirath encouraged her offspring to find Theirs. All he could do was wait to see who the lucky girls were.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Emkin wasn't sure which one to watch. It was easy enough when they walked together. They seemed to enjoy teasing the candidates. Stopping to look at one, talking about her then moving on. She felt some sympathy for them. The pair, under pressure from their mother, began to look in earnest. She froze in her spot so she wouldn't startle hatchlings or mother. The twins finally split apart and went separate directions in the group of girls.

They appear to have located Theirs, Stromath observed, remarking to His and Gneisth. He didn't speak to B'nen though.
Certainly looks like it, K'en replied with a nod, watching as the twin queens split off in their search. Whom would they choose?

The twins seemed to be more interested in playing than really searching for Theirs. Which was...sort of adorable. But, Dezima still felt that pang for their senior queen. The longer these two delayed, that much longer she would have to suffer and wait. Still, Dezima could not fathom the fact they had just witnessed twin Golds hatching! It was so amazing. And now the two were playing...amongst the girls. She found herself one of those that had to step out of the way as the two played. But Yirath finally rumbled and seemed to get them set on what they were supposed to be accomplishing. Impression to Theirs.

Nyosh knew it was harsh, but was none-the-less amused by the pair's scrutiny of the candidates. They knew what they wanted. Go get it girls. She thought at them.

Dragonflight Pern The green's whirled with an uncanny peace, like the eye of a storm amongst all of the activity of the hatching. She seemed unperturbed, unhurried, and apparently knew exactly where he was going as she politely stepped around those Candidates who didn't move fast enough and even helped one girl up, who'd been cowering under the bronze's shout. Moving past all of these, the little green circled a set of girls once, twice and then crooned to them, making eye contact with Analyssa, a wave of calming influence surrounding the girl as their minds touched, Anamine, come to your Malath. We will celebrate life together. Analyssa had been very intent on the gold egg that was now shaking and quivering. Her fists were clenched so tightly that she was sure that tomorrow there would be imprints. Almost, almost she had forgotten about the little green who seemed so relaxed and laid back. Anamine, come to your Malath. We will celebrate life together.Blinking and then realizing that her eyes were only for Malath, Lyssa squealed and dropped to her knees. There was her other half, her reason to celebrate life. Laughing, tearing running down her cheeks, she clung to Malath. "Yes, we will celebrate life."
As they began to walk away towards the feeding tables, rider and dragon turned when the crowd gasped as saw not one but TWO GOLD dragons fall from the egg. Twins! AMAZING! How could Yirath not want to guard over them until the last moment. "Look at your clutch sisters, Malath! They will lead us one day." That is fine as long as you lead me to the table and towards the others. Malath crooned her joy and began to troddle along with Lyssa behind her. ```````````````````````` Canoake gasped and practically jumped out of her seat. Looking around, she saw the same stunned and astonished look on every other bystanders face. TWINS! By Farath, Yirath and Kestril had pulled an amazing stunt out of their hides and would be remembered for it. As well as their deaths. She shook her head angrily. "These two and all the others will be avenges. Haha! Can you believe it, Yirath gave us twins. Let's see those other stupid weyrs top this!"Tatath warbled happily to rider and companion dragons. Nudging Stoloth, she was almost gloating. See there? It is alright! Two to lead us. Two to right the wrongs. Look to our future Benden, look long and well!.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ja'syn had no hard times paying attention to this clutch but as the eggs started to hatch and Impressions were made, he couldn't help but wonder if Lyssa would be left behind once more. Not that his cheerful sister would mind. She would find work to keep herself busy. Brynth rumbled as the event wore on. When Yirath ate those two flits, the brown almost sat up but the Weyrleader's bronze calmed her back down as much as possible. She was bereaved and it would all end soon. With a little green all by herself, most were paying attention the gold egg rocking back and forth violently. But before it split, Ja'syn watched as Analyssa dropped to the ground and wrapped her arms around the green. WHooping in his seat, he couldn't help but have a huge grin on his face. HIS SISTER had IMPRESSED! And the green was simply amazing. They will do well. Was Brynth's reply. I must meet our little sister later. Her name is Malath.A sudden quietness and then as the egg hatched, wings and legs and what?? Ja'syn watched as two perfect little golds broke free from their shell. Suddenly, the whole hatching ground was clapping and cheering. Benden would be just fine.

Zhac glanced at Lukah, but withheld from commenting. Sure, dragons stayed with their bonded, but there was a reason the new weyrlings were told to stay with their dragons for several days to strength the bond, and it was the same reason weyrlings were forbidden from sex and alcohol. The hatchlings were easily confused by the disorienting bond. Zhac didn’t know all the details – only what he’d picked up on since coming to the weyr a few turns ago - but he knew enough to worry about the moment when Yirath took her leave. Even with the excitement for the large clutch, he expected there to be a particular miasma of gloom over the weyr for the next several days. Even so, he knew he’d annoyed his friend with his gloomy commentary and he kept these thoughts to himself.
It was just as well, because not long after the stands witnessed the brutal slaughter of a pair of firelizard. For a moment he’d feared one of them had been Lukah’s, but apparently it wasn’t so. Uneasily, he settled in his seat once more for the continuation of the hatching, until the queen egg finally split at any rate.
For the first time since this whole chaotic affair had begun, Zhac’s face split into a wide smile, and his tired eyes lit up. A pair! Something good at last. “They’re a little small,” he commented around a sigh of relief, “but healthy .”

One of the twins took to running in a dragon dash and skidded to a halt partway down a line, sending a spray of sand up into the air that covered the girls. She chirruped and peered at them, sweeping her head around. She was confident, yes, but unorthodox in everything she'd been doing thus far. When she spotted hers, she flapped her wings and trotted over to the woman, nosing past a candidate in the way to peer up at Isley, Isleymine! Your Kheth has much to do. Walk with yours?The other gold lifted her head as her sister Impressed and gave a loud churr of congratulations then turned her head back to the task. Hers was here somewhere... With one of the golds hatched, the two remaining eggs began to hatch in truth and the larger of the two split from the top and a green head poked out. A few people laughed and cursed as their bets failed them - many had been hoping for a brown or blue from that one but instead it was a massive green! And beside her, the remaining egg pushed as well, spilling another green onto the Sands, big too, but not as big as her sister.

Pahlen gasped and sighed in unison with many when the egg hatched not one, but two. Two! Who'd ever heard of such a thing? Truly, they were twins, then, and just as clearly in mind and spirit as body.
But the joy and fun was cut short by the reminder from mother dearest. There wasn't a moment of this hatching that could hold pretense to normalcy, and only the impressions themselves, and the twins themselves, were the unalloyed joy of it.
It was almost over.

F'law turned his attention from the hatchling queens. They would do what was right. The last two eggs had hatched and revealed a pair of large greens. He wondered which side they would favor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Emkin focused on the hatchling as she ran up to a candidate. Lucky girl. And now the remaining eggs hatched. She smiled at the pair of large greens. Who would be the next to Impress?
Gneisth trilled a congratulations of his own to Kheth's Impression, as well as a welcome to the hatching of the final two eggs. Greens both, and one of them rather large. B'nen was curious to see if they wandered over to the women exclusively, or if there'd be a male greenrider coming out of the hatching today. And the other gold had yet to Impress--surely she'd get first pick?
