Tell me about it... the cousin I used to beat up as a lil kid is now applying for university crying Another cousin who I distinctly remember being a baby is now 13, sassy, 5'2" and had mad pipes.

Wow, someone decided to laugh at how kekkei genkai work.

For your Japanese,

My teachers (Who are Japanese) and our textbook usually do name then greeting. so, "Akeru-sama, hajimemashite". If she wanted to be respectful then it would be Uchiha-sama. Using his first name denotes a closeness which I don't think they have.

I'm not sure if they way she said "my name is" is correct or not. I've never heard it that way but I have a pretty limited vocabulary. What I can tell you is that to mousu (と申す), the dictionary form of to moushimasu, literally means "to be called" so the way that I read that sentence is "I am called Skurayuki Uchiha." That's probably fine but I'd go with the simpler watashi no namae wa Uchiha Sakurayuki (When using Japanese last name first) desu.

I've been told Dōzo yoroshiku onegai shimasu is pretty versatile but our teachers generally equate it to like a "How do you do?" ending to an introduction but said that it means something more like "Please take care of me (in our relationship)."

YAAYYYY biggrin Thank you for correcting that. I was starting to wonder if I should go ahead and erase the whole thing. haha. I'll go fix it right away then, shall I?

Oh, and about a couple things, I've heard the to moushimasu before as a respectful tone used for people who are older than oneself, so I'm hoping that will be ok.

Also, I don't know how to explain this. Typically, "Dōzo yoroshiku onegai shimasu" is literally "잘 부탁드립니다" in Korean, which is the exact meaning together. I've always been frustrated when trying to explain this to others though. "Please take care of me (in this/our relationship)" is what they use to explain this phrase in English, but it just sounds so wrong. *sigh* English, with all it's fancy innuendos, cannot ever truly explain some things from other languages, which is just a real pity. But then, it works the other way around the same way, so I guess that's just a part of the language barrier that we all have to overcome. smile

Anyway, I'll not be trying that again any time soon, but thank you for your help there. I really appreciate it!! Any time you see even the slightest type-o, please tell me! hehe smile

Up to you, and kouri reminded me that Omae is bad for her to use. It indicates that she is talking down to him from a higher status. so anata is less rude but generally you should use the persons' name or just shorten it to Kōeidesu "It's my honor" with the to meet you implied.

*Huggles*
So knowledgeable! I'm just starting to learn to read and write the hira and kata, and most of what I know is self taught. razz I'll go to an academy to learn Japanese formally later on when I can squeeze in the time. But yes I totally forgot about the Omae. Anata is more like "you-as-in-you're-better-than-me-but-not-really-because-we-already-know-each-other-but-not-enough-to-completely-be-at-ease" kind of "you". Haha, at least in Korea, that is. Like in not-quite-strangers, or between those of marital status, or if someone wants to diss someone of higher rank and piss them off intentionally, etc. razz

Thank you sooooo much for your help. heart heart

I would personally explain 'dozo yoroshiku onegai shimasu' as something like... acknowledging your meeting and wanting to make it as civil and mutually productive as possible and also perhaps a tacit agreement to have each others' backs and learn from each other, etc. but maybe not depending on the situation it might just be something polite to say (eg 'you must come over for lunch sometime')....... complication gonk

We also have something like that in Chinese XD

I'm actually supposed to be in high school, but I kinda went to college early. Sooooo, you're not completely wrong. hehe whee

And yes, such a FUN personality. It really shines....
It's because of people like this character's creator that the Uchihas recieve more unnecessary hate. :/ I have half a mind to complain to Narutopedia to take this down. gonk

So complicated, right? Ugh, the joys of languages. English and Korean were pretty hard to grasp sometimes because of these little kinks. Did you know I was almost slapped because my Korean teacher thought I was dissing her for looking her in the eyes instead of down at the floor "like I should have"? -_-
