The more he tried, the more he seemed to have issues with it. And here he had thought it wouldn't be too bad! It's just the relative of the instrument he played normally... ah well, guess his old music teacher had been wrong. It wasn't easy to switch from one to the other.

It was hard to not allow the frustration to build inside the pit of his stomach. First Culture class and now music? The two things he was good at.. usually, he was failing miserably when he finally had his chance to excel. Ugh, mumra would laugh her round tush off at that bit of news, he was sure. She wanted him to fail at this school so he'd have no choice but to go back home. Go back under her thumb. Unlikely!
And he had to remember that so he could focus. He couldn't go back there. Ever.

((Rolling! PASS Barely lol))
After many errors and misreadings - as violin music read a bit differently than he had expected - he got a sound that passed for.. acceptable, he hoped anyway. It also gave him a bit of a happy boost. If he could make it sound good... well maybe he should take up the violin after all... maybe the guitar. Stringed instruments always made him feel comfortable.. but he felt some envy coming from somewhere...
though he had been ignoring it for a bit since his mind was wrapped up in many things. But he looked around til he found the source. Why was Calder envious? His head tilted a bit. Oh he had missed something again... but he was getting used to that, sadly.

Gabrian nodded at Barth, offering the rather sleepy looking demon a smile back. In all honesty, he had no problem with the sloth demon; he didn't think anyone should be punished for being the way they were and thus, well, shouldn't that extend to the avarice demon? He was midway about to say something when Calder flopped himself back into his seat. Something about the way the kelpie moved dragged the demon's attention back on him and for a long moment, Gabrian just watched the other boil quietly.
Was that... oh good grief, was that envy he saw in Calder's eyes? He refrained from facepalming or dropping his head on top of the desk, instead choosing to school his features into some resemblance of serenity, waiting for what was inevitably about to come. On one hand, Gabrian hoped the kelpie would misinterpret his words, because honestly, if he did, it'd mean Ren would be happily out of harm's way. On the other hand, something told him that letting Calder believe that he was involved with the gryphon would inevitably mean that the whole school would believe it too. Eh. Their ghoulfriends were understanding but... he wasn't sure they were that understanding.
And of course, there came the words he'd been hearing. Gabrian all but cringed at them, "We're not... together," he turned his head and gave Ren a look that clearly said he needed help, please, but soon enough returned his attention to the kelpie in case his words would mean he'd play round 2 of 'touch the gryphon's ears', "The gryphon is still mine regardless though, and you may not touch," he really, really felt like snatching his cloak and shoving it forcefully against said gryphon's face at this point.
Then, all hell broke lose as Israfel began to sing.
In a way, Gabrian was rather glad for the timely interruption, because clearly it'd make the kelpie forget the whole ordeal. Right? Right. He raised his hands to his ears and cringed at the horribly mangled vocals, wishing he could hide his head under his bagpipes. He only barely heard Barth's strangled yelp, but before he could do much of anything, a patchwork decided to help him out, allowing the nix to keep his hands over his ears, shielding himself from the horrible singing.
When the tuba landed on Israfel, Gabrian let out a sigh of contentment, finally able to peal his hands away from his ears and thus, redirect his attention elsewhere. Barth was er... still on the floor and the nix bent down to offer the sloth demon a hand, "I think you need some help, don't you not?" he kept a wary eye on the tuba in case the siren emerged though. He also watched as Livi managed to get his violin to cooperate with him, and he gave him an encouraging nod.

"Er," said Ren, momentarily distracted from Livi, his ear twitching as he caught Calder's last few words, after the boil had moved back to his seat: He didn't really see the look on his face, but he definitely heard his voice:
"Sorry. I didn't know you two were together. I won't touch. He's all yours."
"...what." Ren said stupidly.
He should have known, really, that the kelpie would misunderstand. Really. Already familiar with Calder's personality, it was only obvious that he would think one way. Ren's eyes shifted from the demon in front of him to move sideways, falling on Gabrian. Who was looking somewhat exasperated.
"We're not... together. The gryphon is still mine regardless though, and you may not touch,"
Make that very, very exasperated. Ren had a sneaking suspicion that later on he would be in a rather lot of trouble, and he cleared his throat, making a quick one second gesture to Livi.
"Right, yes, we're not together," he said breezily to Calder, waving a hand dismissively. "But regardless, I do belong to Gabrian, so sorry little horse, but you can't touch my ears. Or tail. Or, er, my hair. Yeah."
He had a feeling he was making things worse, but no matter. Ren tilted his head, offering the kelpie a smile. "You can still have that carrot though, don't worry."
Ren clutched Gabrian's cloak tightly in his hand, closing his eyes briefly before turning back to Livi and attempting to show him what he hoped was a calm expression. "Sorry about that," he said with a light laugh. "Um, yes, right, Livi. I'm glad to finally officially meet you, since we've had classes together, but just never had a chance to talk. As for the bagpipes, they, er..." Ren cast a glance towards the lumpy instrument on the desk, gesturing to it pathetically before shaking his head. "Yeah, the bagpipes and I don't really get along together," he said.
Ren was somewhat interrupted in his talking by the horrible, Jack-awful screechings of one very loud, very determined Israfel. He was not quite certain what was going on, exactly, but either way it was terrible. Terrible. His ears were ringing.
This really is a horrible class, Ren thought, feeling exhausted.

It wasn't until Gabrian spoke the words about ownership and together.. or not-ness that the avarice got the picture as to what, exactly, was happening and why Calder was envious. Did Carry not tell him that this particular boil was the guru of romance or something? His head tilted slightly as he did his best to recall, but he was pretty sure that was what she had said. That Calder enjoyed romance, all aspects of it, but seemed to... oh. Though unspoken aloud, he had to say that Gabrian's claims of ownership (of a sort) would lead to some kind of confusion and this would definitely be a rumor kicked about school, but one that should be easily dispelled.
..... Hopefully.
When Ren gave the one second motion, he nodded in complete understanding. best to set the limits right away before simple conversation, he was sure. "Indeed. What is your type of instrument, if you don't mind my asking?" It was obvious that the envy demon was doing his best to ignore the sounds of a certain siren, but the pain on his face was a bit hard to mask completely. Hecate below, he felt like his ears were bleeding! Even the muffled sounds were a lot better, though being trapped under a tuba couldn't be comfortable. "This class... is not at all what I expected..."
It was like hell... or something worse. But Gabrian's nod of approval made him smile happily as he returned it. To know that someone who actually played the instrument thought he did well was very pleasing to him indeed! "I'm confused as to why we're playing other instruments other than the ones we know already. I've never heard of a class that would swap them out this way..."

Either the siren's singing was beginning to improve, or Yaya was growing accustomed to her. While she did have the rare talent of tuning things out, there was something about Israfel's voice that demanded attention, then turned about and bludgeoned you with it.
Either way, it wasn't quite so grating now, and the djinn hesitantly pulled away from her nergal, hands falling from around her ears to reclaim the horn resting on her lap. Picking it up once more to stare at it with a frown. it had to be broken, it had to. What sort of instrument didn't make a sound when you blew into it's mouth piece?
Holding it up to her lips again, she drew a deep breath, said a silent prayer to jack that it worked this time, and began to blow. At first nothing happened, much like her previous attempts, but then a sudden sound startled her, and she gave a peculiar little noise against the mouth piece still pressed to her lips. That odd little sound was enough to draw a note from the horn. It wasn't pretty, and it wasn't eve, but it had been a note! Was that the bloody trick to this thing? Pursing your lips and raspberrying at it? That was just silly..
She tried it again, and once again the horn came to life. She took a deeper breath and gave the valves a few fluid taps. Notes began pouring from the mouth of her horn. Simple little melodies, nothing fancy, but quite possibly recognizable.
Finally she'd figured the jack damned thing out.

Sepheran smiled nodding at Lizzy "I think that would be fun to play together sometime...if not in class then maybe some time after?" Sepheran stated his ears catching the teacher's acceptance of his performance. This just made him blush more, it was nice to have such a talented violinist accept his playing. It wasn't the best, but it had to mean he wasn't completely bad though right?
Turning his head back to Lizzy he calmed himself down again, "I like music, it's soothing and allows me to get a better look at the world," he added.

He...wanted her to play the piano? Junko blinked and just stared at the professor, unsure about how she felt about this. At least piano was somewhat high on her list, but not because she knew how to play it. In fact, Junko had never even touched a piano in her entire life! Never ever! She'd never touched any instrument! She would have preferred singing but it seemed any complaining or begging to be switched would not work from what she'd seen. Junko hummed curiously and stepped up to one of the two pianos, grabbing some sheet music.
...This...was not promising. Junko had no idea how to read these notes. She wasn't trained or anything! But the piano seemed like fun, and she liked listening to it so...might as well give it a try?
It didn't end too well. In fact, she sucked. Junko winced and brought her hands back away from the keys as if she'd been burned. That was awful!

She couldn't give up! Junko was trying really hard to tune out Israfel's singing the horrible noises around her, but it was proving difficult. Naturally, she tried again, really wishing that these notes and the keys were at least labeled for ease.
That shrieking was making this impossible.

"Yes! Definitely!" She nodded excitedly at Sepheran, excited at the thought of a jamming session. Well, sort of a jamming session; she hadn't played the guitar with anyone since Battle of the Bands ended. She would sometimes play to herself or her Minipets, but not with anyone else - it would be fun to do that again!
"I do agree that its soothing... Well, most of the time anyway," She giggled; the songs she had witnessed during Battle of the Bands was far from 'soothing'. It was actually rather painful on the ears and body, but overall, it was still an enjoyable experience. A short pause followed before she blinked, "Although what do you mean by it allows you a better look at the world?"
It sounded like a rather interesting point of view to her!

Junko sighed and sat closer, pouting a bit. She couldn't let herself get too discouraged over this, it was her first time ever doing this and she couldn't expect herself to excel at it right away. Or even anytime soon. It would take a long time to get this! And get this she would! Junko was determined.
Hey! Those notes didn't totally suck! She smiled brightly and kept playing, doing her best at guessing. So if that note was this on the keys...then that one must have been this one? This wasn't so hard!
Geh. Bad note. Oops.

The wrath demon continued enthusiastically bashing his drums through the horrible bagpipe, trumpet, cello and harp music that jangled around him. He was in a world of his own, a world where he squashed the head of some whiny reaper or monster or ghost kid every time he smacked the snare. But even maiming fantasies couldn't hold the boil's attention for long. Eventually he came back to himself, and needless to say, he was rather disappointed. He placed the drumstick gingerly in his lap then occupied himself by poking at his wound. Practice time was over, it seemed.
