Half an hour later, unable to bear the sound of Sachi's giggles and the guilt weighing in her chest, they set off; with two earth-benders bringing up the rear. They went off as quickly as their ostrich-horses would take them.
It was for the best, she kept reminding herself. So what if you prove him right. So what if one human suffers. You've always suffered. And he's meant to kill you anyway.
But is it right?
She kept her head bowed as she tried to concentrate on the road, gripping the reins so tightly her knuckles were white and taunt.

Sachi looked at Yana, and saw her expression. "Yana, are you okay?'

"I'm alright. Just a little...a little tired," she yawned. Well at least she wasn't adding that onto the lie list. "C'mon. I'd like to get to the second outpost by morning to take a short break."

By the time Kyoujin woke, it was morning. Earlier than the two girls had figured, but he was up, bright and early. Feeling much better, he was able to lightly stretch, looking around to see where Yana was at.
"She must have left..." he mumbled to himself, noticing that she was nowhere in the room.
He simply shrugged, sat up, and walked out of the resting room to where Giji was. Paying no mind to the guards he was speaking with, he pulled down on his shoulder.
"Do you know where those girls I was traveling with are...?"

"Ahh you're up early," Giji replied, "Unfortunately you just missed the girls. We recieved an urgent message from the Earth Temple an hour ago and the girls had to leave right away. But we'll set you back on the trail after some breakfast...Lady Yana promised to wait for you at the temple." ___
Meanwhile, the girls had just awoken at the first outpost past the fortress, gobbling down breakfast as they rode on. "We can't be sure Kyoujin hasn't woken early. Even if he is set on the Serpent's Pass..." Yana felt extremely guilty at this point, "We'll have reached the ferry and arrived at the temple by nightfall. He'll have to camp out two nights for the Pass alone...if he gets by."

Kyoujin had eaten all the food served for breakfast in a matter of minutes. He wasn't too excited to chase after the two again, but he was excited to be traveling alone for once. He never had that kind of freedom before.
Giji seemed to have given him a fake smile as he handed him a map to show him where he'd have to go exactly to get where he needed, sending him off. Looking the map over, he realized that some letters were slightly erased, but not enough to where they weren't legible.
"Serpent's...Pass?" He'd never heard of it, but it had a nice name. "Must be...bendy or something..."
As he went on to where the place was located on the map on a small sliver of land between two bodies of water, he dropped the map immediately at the sight.
"O-okay...I've been wrong before...more water than I figured...and a lot less bendy..." He mumbled in amazement, staring at the broken 'road' before him.
He quickly gathered the map back up and headed towards the archway that separated the normal land from the rocky land, noticing the characters etched into one side. "Abandon hope?" He scoffed, reading it aloud.
With that, he kept on the trail until it sank under water. Now's the time when I wish I had a waterbender traveling with me..., he thought, slipping himself into the water. He hated water, but he'd have to try to swim to the next side.
About half way to the other side, water gushed towards him, knocking him against a nearby rock. "Ow..." he grumbled, shaking it off the best he could. It didn't help he was still sore from the fall, but he quickly discarded any thoughts of pain as he saw a long, snakelike figure approach him. He held onto the rock as water sloshed hard upward from the force of the creature pulling itself out of the water.
"So this is why they call it Serpent's Pass?" He groaned, not amused at the massive serpent. "This is STUPID!"
Of course, the serpent wasn't much amused with him either, all he'd be was a tasty brunch. It swiftly dove after Kyoujin, but instead of catching him in his mouth, he caught the rock.
"That's all ya got? All you are is an over-sized garden snake that lives in water!" He laughed from atop its head, holding onto its whiskers like reins. "Now listen closely, I need to get to the other side...Ba Sing...whatever. AND you will take me there."
The creature tried to throw Kyoujin off, but he dug his sandals into its head and began firebending its whiskers. As soon as it felt the pain of its whiskers burning, it stopped.
"OKAY, better yet. You get me to the other side or I will fry you and eat you like a fish-stick."
The serpent's eyes widened at this, and it carefully nodded in agreement. "Good boy...uhh...girl...serpent thing..." Kyoujin praised it, patting its head with his foot.
"Now let's find my girls."

Maybe it was the screaming fleeing passengers that gave it away. Either that or the forceful rocking of the boat. Whichever it was...Yana was forced to rush back out on deck to see the trouble.
She was on the ferry to the other side of the lake, preparing to go to the Temple on the Outer Wall of Ba Sing Se. But apparently there were other plans as she saw an enormous poison green serpent rise out of the water with a screech. Someone was on its head...someone very familiar....
"Well I'll be damned." Yana groaned, "Merchant Boy finally found a pet that's just as irritable and ferocious as he is."

Sachi rolled her eyes, and jumped to her feet. Her eyes were bright. "So... Want me to fight him so you can get ahead? I can take a short-cut... I know my ways around this world." She said with a smile. Her parents liked to travel with her.

(No offense meant Rose, but Sachi and Yana are on a boat. Poor ostrich-horse may be a tad queasy on a boat >_<)
"....No."
Yana felt conflicted in leaving him behind...covering up the abandonment with a total lie to top it off. But the serpent would not be so keen on leaving, even with Kyoujin on the boat. There were innocent passengers on board. And Yana, above all others, had to protect innocent people.
"We'll tell him we simply were delayed by bandits." she whispered quietly. "We can work around this."

[[I fixed it.]]
Sachi shook her head. "Yana... Sometimes you can't talk your way through everything."

Yana kept her eyes on the serpent. She'd known it once. A test of preserverance had taken her through the Serpents Pass once. Yana had followed the sign's warnings to a fault; abandoning hope for extra help and taking on the challenge alone.
But that day was chilling. She was as heartless and cold as the Serpent back then. Could she be now?
"I know," Yana said, bowing her head, "But sometimes we need to take on hopeless cases. It's never ever easy...but people like me will do it. It's my job to take on such burdens." She looked morose and solemn. "Hopefully...his only kill in life will be me. Then I'd know the damage was far less severe than I first feared."

Sachi groaned. "Yana, I know you are a monk of sorts, but you must know that not everything can be solved without violence. I know your father defeated the firelord by taking away his bending, but there was a fight before it. It's not like he went in there and had a chat with him. You just can't go waltz up to him, while he's on a SERPANT, and talk to him. It's like you WANT him to kill you!"

"Of course I don't," Yana hissed back. "But I have a job and a duty. My comfort and safety must simply be sacrificed. And in any case-" She smoothed out her anger. "He doesn't know we left him behind on purpose. But this is less about the ways of the monks and more about keeping him under control." She eyed Sachi seriously.
"Do you really want him running around by himself with that monster he's riding? Or even alone, as a dangerous bender? We have to act as protectors for everyone else....I thought you knew what you were in for when he joined us..."

Sachi shook her head, but softer this time. "I knew, and I still do. But you aren't getting the point. I'm not saying we leave him alone, furious, with a serpant or without. I know that I joined you to be a protector, and right now my priority is you. If I went to him, I could talk to him, and if things go wrong I know how to fight. Surrounding him is my element, and when I get him off of that serpant and on level ground, we can send him somewhere where he'll cause no trouble. He'll get food every day, and he might have cell mates."
