It takes a talented individual to get onto my bad side. And dare I say, I fear for their existence should they achieve such a feat. I maybe critical and opinionated, but I don't let differences of opinions decipher if I like or dislike them unless its something major like principals and moral differences, but that's an entirely different ball game from ball ideas. smile And just because I didn't write you a mile long wall of text doesn't mean I set you aside, either. ~.^ I just didn't have anything more to say to your points at this time. And I would hope that if I didn't agree with someone's idea that they wouldn't take it to heart and read into it as me not liking them as a person. I don't base my opinions of someone's idea based on my opinion of them. That would be fruitless and silly, don't you think? -inserts smiley- So with that said, by all means, feel free to disagree with me as long as you do it constructively. ^^

Alright. That was my only matter to disagree to. I'll probably back down a bit and watch. ...I feel like I need to apologize again, but we have gone over this >< Mmmk.

....From what I am gathering (correct me if I am wrong).. most who are against the one main thread a day idea are ones who like to find a thread topic that interests them and thus stick to that one thread where they feel most comfortable?

Yup. That would seem to be so.
Ah, that would actually explain a lot. ^^ And its actually for those like you whom I figured leaving the ports open would be most ideal. But for those who might join in the ball festivities on say, the 3rd day, they would also be able to easily "jump right in." For some if a thread has had X amount of pages before they have posted, they are less apt to get involved because they feel lost. Especially in an RP thread. It becomes entirely too challenging to catch up. I guess I look at the thread a day concept as a chance for a new beginning, while at the same time a continuation. Like an episode in a series. Where even if you missed the first episode of a show you could still jump into watching the second episode.

Someone mentioned Peter Pan, and for some reason it caused me to think of another favorite movie.. Labyrinth. Neither topic am I entirely certain how to weave a plot around though, but both seemingly intriguing to gnaw on. razz

haha I mentioned the Peter Pan bit, since I was having a bit of a Peter Pan syndrome a few days ago >_< and people kept on going about the Wonderland thing which, forgive me for saying Pixi, I still cant help but say and feel thats its been overused and done =(

So I thought why not Neverland instead of Wonderland? Just as many places to go to as in Wonderland, and we're free to create more things; Mermaid's Lagoon, Pirate Ships, Fairy realms, the forest etc

I should get sleep soon now...I hope the thread wont be bursting with texts when I get back from my trip ._. or I'll paw my eyes from reading..I'm sorry to say.. sweatdrop

Um, excuse me if I heard right, did Envy just mention Labyrinth? That would be so much fun!!! So much to do, and if we wanted to do it like the movie, and do the thread a day thing (which I wasn't into at first, but I have to admit, you sold me on it Envy. xp ) we could follow "Sara" on her adventures through the Labyrinth.

But Labyrinth makes me think of another childhood favorite, The Dark Crystal. Does anybody remember that? It makes me think a really fun theme would be cobbling together movies from our respective "childhoods", and create a celebration of the past (aka when we were children). What immediately comes to mind for me are classics like Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, (please tell me I'm not the only one who's seen Flight of Dragons), even The Hobbit. And it doesn't have to just be fantasy, that's just what I know best!

Light and civil debate is encouraged in topics like these, right? It's a good way to stimulate thought and see things in a different perspective. ^__^

I wouldn't mind the idea of having opening a thread a day, especially if the ball were to be opened for a week, and if we chose the 'around the world'. I think that with the short attention spans many people have, it's a good way to have them participate without getting bored of the same thread for the rest of the week, and it may decrease any spam/etc they might produce out of boredom. It would keep things fresh and exciting. Honestly, I would really like to see where this would go, because you never know until you try, right?

@AMK: I like the Neverland idea, but I think we should stray away from the more fantasy-themed ideas. The last theme was fairy tales, and I feel that too many ideas from Peter Pan were already seen in the recent ball. I don't think it's bad at all, though, so keep the creativity going!

@konomi_the_kitten: The fairy tale theme was already done in the last ball, I'm afraid, although you idea seems to be more focused on princesses and such. That was sort of like the epic romances idea brought up earlier. xD

About the basing the ball on famous movies/books -- I may need correction, but I think we can't directly base our theme on a movie/book. But like I said, we can use concepts found in movies/books as long as we make some creative modifications. i.e. like how the last ball had a striking resemblance to pagemaster (which may or may not have been on purpose).

So if doing something based on Labyrinth--

Our young, blossoming, heroine, Kaia, is awoken from a horrid nightmare! Only, to her dismay, it wasn't truly a dream at all. Her beloved friend Envy has been poisoned and lay dying by her side. A note is attached to Envy's dress with a message from a most horrific magician. "In order to awaken your dear friend you must collect sacred ingredients to a potion of which you can find in my lair." Along with the message is a list of all that she must collect. With urgency she sets out to save her friend, only to find the magician's lair is an intricate maze riled with goblins, trolls, and other ghastly beasts. Kaia is naturally overwhelmed, and just as she is prepared to give up a furry with a riddle walks over to inspire her with hope. blah blah blah...

Anyway, you'd be able to utilize concepts behind the movie as long as you took steps to keep it "original".. even though that improvised story of mine was very very cliche. razz But we'd want to change around character names and those little things that make Labyrinth so unique.. like her wishing away her brother and her angst towards her parents, etc. But keeping riddles that could send her in the right and wrong direction would be more than fine as long as we made said riddles and characters who give such riddles differing names and descriptions. In fact.. come to think of it, isn't that something along the lines of what Crystal Caverns did?

But, never the less, while we could design a story any which way.. but we'd also have to keep in mind that we have an "audience" to keep in mind and need to ensure that they could follow along and participate.

Labarynth is heart !

We could work it so it wouldn't be copywrite infringement: labrynths are long-established themes in myth and fantasy. Maybe we could incorporate the Minotaur/Theseus legend?

Oh. We were talking about doing something Alice in Wonderland or Peter Pan, so I thought it was okay. Oops! Sorry. razz

But I like your idea of a Labyrinth based theme! We could still open a thread a day as the "protagonist" moves through the Labyrinth... if we were changing it, to still make it a party, what if every part of the Labyrinth was celebrating something (even they're not sure just what they're celebrating, as the King didn't tell them!)? Maybe two people entered the Labyrinth and got separated, and so now they're both trying to get to the middle so they can find each other. But to get there they still have to get through riddles in the parties to try and get to the middle, and along the way they get hints about why the King is throwing his Labyrinth-wide celebration. And as she goes along, she could gather a crowd of people who follow her get to the destination ( I only say she because it was a she in the movie, it could be a He!).

And if we were feeling really ambitious, we could follow both friends at the same time as they travel. XD

Just ideas!

I feel dumb...
But I'm not familiar with Labyrinth.
But Envy was talking about doing a story that is similar.
So even if people were like me,
And had no idea what Labyrinth was...
[Except that it probably involves labyrinths of some sort...]
They could enjoy themselves.

Would anyone mind giving me a brief description or hint as to what Labyrinth is?
[I'm familiar with the actual term labyrinth, just not the movie or book you're referring to.]

Of course!! Labyrinth is a movie from... wow, the 80s I think? It starred Jennifer Connelly as Sara and David Bowie as Jareth, the Goblin King, as well as a large number of muppets created for the movie by Jim Henson. It follows the story of Sara, who is really spoiled and has her head in the clouds. One night she has to baby sit her baby brother Tommy, and in a fit of rage wishes the goblins would take him away. Well, it just so happens that the Goblin King has the hots for her, so they do. She immediately regrets it though, and asks to get him back. Instead, Jareth gives her 12 hours to get to the center of the Labyrinth (his realm) and rescue her brother, but after the 12 hours are up, Tommy will become a goblin. So basically it follows her on her journey through the Labyrinth, which is filled with odd characters and strange creatures, lots of traps for the unwary, and riddles she has to get through to get to the center.

I think that about sums it up! Hope I could help, and you're not dumb for not knowing it, I didn't see it until I think I was about 14. ^_^

EDIT: Here, have a trailer. heart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT_xpFZe20A

Thanks so much!
If we do a story based off of that I'll be sure to try and watch the movie.

If we did Labyrinth I don't think the ball would be fun if we based the entire ball off of it...it's a cool idea but for a whole ball where we have like 7 rooms?....Labyrinth would have to be one room and we would have to do some serious brainstorming to edge away from the copyright cliff.
