[[PAWNS DON'T NEGOTIATE GREEDY CAT!]] scream

Des looked between Angela and Cheeva then darted over to Cheeva. She was clearly injured far worse. He had no idea what to do--bandages? He had no healing magic at all. "Cheeva!" he shouted, grabbing her uninjured arm. "Cheeva Catkin!"

She was still breathing but the entire left side of her torso was burned and her arm was completely gone. Her face....he swallowed and let out a short breath. She was horribly injured.

"Those grey bastards," he muttered. Dark blue sparks were lancing across the wounds and seemed to be doing some amount of healing. "Don't waste energy trying to heal herself," he told her, unsure if she could even hear. "We'll get Zen to heal you, okay. Just save your energy."

s**t. That was about the only thing that Basti could think. He still sat next to the doused fire, staring at their messenger 'friend' where he'd collapsed. Again. Seriously, what in Lau's name was going on here?
Suddenly, Basti's brain started to work. What could he do to help the situation? He had no magic or healing ability. Therefore, he couldn't really do anything productive. Besides, Des was already tending to Cheeva, and he was getting Zen to help. The only thing Basti could think to do was go see what Angela needed.
He cautiously stood and went to her side to find that she was still in a ball, shivering.
"Um, I'm sorry, but I can't do anything for Cheeva, so..." With that, Basti moved her into as much of a sitting position as he could manage and sat behind her, wrapping his wings around them both. Within the little shelter, he was surprised at just how cold her skin was to the touch as he started to rub her arms to help heat her.

Angela's body hurt like hell and she was freezing--something she had very little experience with as cold didn't normally have much effect on her.

As soon as Basti wrapped her up, she curled into him and let out a pathetic whimper.

Warm.

If she could have, she would have crawled into him just for the prospect of being warm again. It seemed his body heat was having little effect on her but she was grateful for it anyway. She didn't even complain about him touching her without permission.

"Th--th-thank you," she managed through chattering teeth.

"You're welcome. It's the least I could do..." Basti didn't mention that it was also the only thing he could do, because that pretty much went without saying. He continued to rub her arms, though he could tell it wasn't doing much. Ah, well. At least it helped a little. And that made it worth the effort.

(( I left Chee alone in case you had something planned))
"You two tie up that b*****d" Zen said to Toshi and Inu while pointing to the messenger. "We should've let him die of poison..."

He couldn't decide on whether or not to rush to Des or Angela. Chee was healing, so he decided she was at least stable for the time being and darted over to Basti in order to try to melt the ice magic.
Swearing again, for having to use up some of the energy he wanted to use to pummel the Twelve Parrots, he sighed.

"Come my Guardian...." He said aloud, surprised that it actually did come where he had been transported to. Spirit-like red flames danced around him, and Angela, careful not to touch Basti. Zen held out a hand for the guardian to return to, once it de-iced the poor woman.

"Are you ok Angela?" The fire kept leaping around his hand and arm, waiting for another order or a dismissal.

((It's okay Nim!!))

"Not okay," she said, her voice sounding sluggish. "Hurts."

She squeezed her eyes shut, cursing herself for being so stupid. Why had she jumped in like that? Well other than Enrion roasting Chee and the part of her that wanted to make him stop. Her arms were beginning to tingle painfully and she couldn't see it but patches of her skin were blackened with frostbite.

"Ugh..." she moaned softly.

The Spirit of Fire left Zen's hand and poofed altogether. He didn't have enough power to sustain it for long in that place. Old fashioned warming up would have to suffice.
He pulled the woman close to him and pulled his coat overher shoulders. He grabbed her with an arm around her side and hobbled over to Des.
"Thanks Basti, would you mind making sure that messenger is tied up?" He asked, knowing he'd probably have to go link with Angela again.

"Cheeva, can you do anything for her? You are an immortal and all..."

Angela was sort vaguely aware that she'd traded heat sources. At first there had been Basti and his wings (she owed him one for sure) but then there was a sudden, fierce warmth and pain as the feeling returned to her limbs and body. Her skin was less cold now but she felt so cold inside that she wasn't sure she could remember what it meant to be warm.

And then, yet again, she was pulled against someone.

Zen. It was definitely Zen this time. Even through the foggy haze that was her mind at the moment, she could recognize the feeling of his presence.

She clung to him, trying to burrow deeper as she wrapped her arms around him. She was still in pain but the cold was finally beginning to dissipate.

**

Des glared up at Zen. "I don't know where you're from Zenny, boy. But where I'm from, we immortals come in quite a few shapes and sizes. I can't heal and sure as hell cannot regenerate limbs. At most, I can ease the pain for her. We have to get her to a skilled healer--someone who can restore her body."

He sighed and leaned over Cheeva, singing in a low, soft voice. His soothing words would at least cause the pain to vanish.

"We need to get moving as soon as possible." He glanced at Angela, who was huddling against Zen. "Can she walk?"

"If she can't, I'm sure that between Zen and me, we can carry her." Basti had noticed how Angela snuggled up against Zen, which probably meant that he was warmer than Basti. But Zen could only cover half of her at once, and she was nowhere near warm enough to heat a coat by herself. Basti's wings could cover more of her, and they were warm on their own, connected to Basti's own body heat.

"I...I c-c-can walk," she muttered, managing to push herself away from Zen. She did not need to be carried despite sorely missing his warmth. She was not some weak child.

She took two steps before her knees buckled and she collapsed.

"Or...n-not."

Awoken rather rudely by something hard and small hitting him on the cheek, Inutai sat up and glanced around in question. He wasn't sure what was going on, but judging by the looks on everyone's faces, it didn't seem to be good. He jumped slightly as Zen told him to tied up the messenger.

Inutai's ears twitched. "Bas--?"
Toshi quickly covered his mouth. "Do not repeat what he says," he said with a slight sigh.
The boy nodded slightly at this as Toshi pulled his hand away. "Tie him up?"
Shaking his head slightly, Toshi let out another sigh. "Forgive me for pointing this out, but it appears we cannot do as you asked. Simply because, there is nothing to use to tie the man up. The only thing possible may be our chains, but I am afraid we need them more than this messenger does."

Gypsum's eyes snapped open at the commotion as it unfolded around him, and the chain he wore rattled silently against his heaving chest; he scratched helplessly at it as it suddenly tightened around his neck. He remained completely motionless and watched the scene with flashing gold eyes, unable to do anything but silently clutch at the damned thing with his free hand. As the messenger finally fell, the chain suddenly relaxed--he gasped for air and slumped tiredly against the tree he had been sleeping against, deciding it was best to not interfere for fear of causing more harm than good.
