It's because of the Listeria...
Just cook the damned thing
From the FDA:
"Do not eat hot dogs or luncheon meats (including deli meats such as ham, turkey, salami, bologna) unless they are reheated until steaming hot."

Remembering to cook lunch meats to steaming has been a pain. Everyone seems to have deli sandwiches at get-togethers which means I always have to find their microwave and reheat them. Oh well. Not too huge of a sacrifice.
I have eaten much healthier since being pregnant-many more fruits and veggies than before. I also pretty much lost my sweet tooth during the first trimester. Then it came back. I love my ice cream, but most of the time I make due with pudding. I'm on WIC so pudding is a great way to use up all the milk WIC provides. I've also been wanting more sugary cereals than I normally eat. Cocoa Krispies have been my friend. xd
Ummm, yeah, so I'm just blathering right now. I should go nest or something. rofl

Pirate Dirge I should post the list of things you can't eat from that book. It goes as far as to say no ketchup, no pudding, no whipped toppings, no syrups of any kind [like a drizzle of maple syrup is going to screw the baby up for life?!], no white flour ANYTHING...there was this huge list of all these common foods that almost everyone eats. I read it to Chris today and he just started laughing hysterically: like that's ever going to happen. My last trimester with my daughter I had waffles and maaple syrup just about every morning *laughs* She was born fine and healthy.Pirate Dirge Oh, I have to ask, does anyone know exactly why hotdogs aren't ok. They say it's because they're packed in nitrites but not why they're bad. It gets grouped with prepackaged cold cuts a lot and so I originally thought it was because of the threat of Listeria, but I guess that's not it? I have been craving one like you wouldn't believe. Smothered in ketchup of course. mrgreen I didn't like hot dogs much with my daughter, save for the occasional cheese dog. I ate a lot of corn dogs from the deli where I worked (in a grocery store) though.Nopenname It's because of the Listeria... Just cook the damned thing From the FDA: "Do not eat hot dogs or luncheon meats (including deli meats such as ham, turkey, salami, bologna) unless they are reheated until steaming hot." Well I guess it's good that I've always liked my hot dogs microwaved until they blister then *laughs*
Really I had no idea about the lunch meats though. I've actually had a few subs since becoming pregnant. I've never heard of reheating the meat.kmaritza I have eaten much healthier since being pregnant-many more fruits and veggies than before. About the only thing I really like right now are fruits and veggies. Which is funny 'cuase with my daughter I LOVED Ice cream, my first trimester especially. But I haven't wanted sweets and sometimes they even make me sick cry

Lunch meat ITSELF is not going to kill you, the issue is that Refridgerator temperatures are like perfect for Listeria to thrive. So if you have older lunch meat...it can be a problem.
Listeria can pass through the placenta where as most of the other food posionings can't, I believe.
I however, eat at subway ALL THE TIME, and buy pepperoni from the deli counter (because I'm addicted to it this pregnancy) and I did so during my first pregnancy. I just make sure to buy small amounts of meats at the deli (that can be used within three days), I don't buy prepackaged, oscar meyer type meats and I don't buy those prepackaged subs at like 7-11 or albertsons.
I think most of the time during pregnancy they set the bar of diligence in diet and such very high in hopes that the majority of women will meet it at least half way.

Thanks Nopen, that's good to know. I feel a little better now. I was going to have Subway, but they were closed so I did pick up a package of "deli meat" from the grocery store. I made the sandwich that night and haven't eaten from that package since. We also had a hogie Made the day of my daughter's party. That and watermelon were the two things I was able to eat at the party, the smell of burgers and hotdogs made me so sick, and my father-in-law's potato salad (which I normally love) I couldn't stand the smell of, and the cake was chocolate, which I've had absolutely no tolerance for this pregnancy.

Me: "Hey! today is the start of the 28th week, that's like only TWO more months left!"
Him: "Yeah, and look at it this way, that's only another possible 60 more days of puking!"

Hehe, I dunno, was rather pragmatic of him. If I had a pregnancy like Nopen's, I'd be looking forward to only 60 more days of puking too!

First trimester I slept and slept and still was exhausted all the time. Now I just don't sleep well at all between bathroom trips, shoulder and hip pains, baby moving, congestion, and headaches. I still seem to have more enrgy than I did first trimester though.
