Adrian glanced out the window and saw it was getting darker outside. "I'll go with you, but I'll stay a few feet from the house. I don't trust you not to get pounced on on your walk home." He paused. "I mean I don't trust other people to not take advantage of you."

Carlos stared at Adrian for a moment then smiled and hugged his arm, leaning his cheek against the rat's shoulder. "Thank you Adrian. I appreciate it."

Adrian looked down at Carlos. "What? What I'd say or do that deserves thanks?" The poor rat is so oblivious.

"Well I know you don't really want to go back to my place. It's my fault for forgetting that of course since my car is there, if we're going to use it we'd have to go back there." Yeah, no one had ever accused Carlos of over-analyzing the consequences of his actions, or any given situation for that matter. "But you're worried about me... enough for you to decide to go anyway. So thank you," he grinned up at Adrian.

Adrian shrugged. He didn't really understand the need to thank him, but he wasn't going to bring that up. "You're welcome, I guess. As long as I don't have to run into any of your family or housemates, it should be fine, I think."

"We shouldn't. Even if we went straight to the garage, unless someone was coming or going we wouldn't see anyone." Hard to say though, if people were outside in the yard. "If you want, you can wait down the block or something."

"Okay," Carlos nodded, pulling them lightly toward the door. "It'll be okay you know," he added as he peered up at Adrian with a little smile.

"Alright." The rat let Carlos pull him towards the door. "If you say so, Carlos." He didn't get his hopes up, because there is always a chance for something to go wrong, but he wouldn't go look for it and plus, he was going to stay away from the house, so how bad could it be, right?

Carlos grimaced at the rat's doubt. He couldn't blame him, but he had to try, right? Maybe sometime soon Adrian would actually clear the air with Carlos' father. Maybe after more time had passed and he could prove to everyone that he was making himself into a better person. Then he would have a reason to be proud of himself without a doubt, and to hell with anyone who thought otherwise. It was nice to hope. He knew Adrian could do it, and he knew that Jimi wasn't going to hold grudges as strongly as the rat thought he would.
He was pretty sure.
The unicat was confident enough to lead the way without actually taking any steps ahead of Adrian. He knew the rat knew the way though. He never let go of Adrian's arm, smiling enough for both of them.

Adrian allowed the unicat to lead the way to his house. The rat glared at anyone who dared to even look at the couple. He didn't want them to think they could approach them or dare taunt them. He was worried about what would happen when they got to the house, but hopefully nothing would. Adrian was more worried about running into Jimi out of everyone else.

"You know, you should try not to scare everyone away. Some of these people are actually pretty nice," the unicat said with a grimacing smile as he waved to someone he recognized. They were almost to his street.

Adrian looked at Carlos. "They may be nice people, but I don't know that for sure. And let me have some semblance of toughness while we do this."

Toughness? Carlos chuckled and nodded, grinning up at him. "All right." Let Adrian be all defensive of them. It was kind of flattering. They turned down the street where Carlos lived. The Nullspace was only a couple of blocks away. "How far away did you want to stay?"

Adrian looked down the road. "I'll wait here. It's close enough." He figured it was close enough that is anything happened to Carlos he could intervene and far enough away so that he wouldn't risk running into anyone, or so he hoped.
