"That wasn't resting," Corrah replied flatly, pushing Ruran forward gently. "That was harassing. Now walk. You've been complaining that I haven't really been training you. Now you're big enough to train. We're going to train."

They were nearly to the clearing where he wanted to work with Ruran, so close that he could already see it in his mind's eye.

Ruran sighed, "It was too resting I was just getting comfortable!" he said but he followed when Corrah told him to walk. "Well at least I will be getting a head start. I think I deserve it." he smiled and looked at his slowing but still bleeding hand.

Corrah snorted disdainfully. "And what makes you think you deserve it?" he just about growled at Ruran. "You're an a** - you're selfish, inconsiderate, rude greedy, proud and stubborn - all you really deserve is a real good beating."

Well he would find out in the morning just how unlucky he was to be starting his training right now. His body would not have had the rest it needed, and the next day, when he trained all of the children together, the boy would probably be in pain and exhausted, embarrassed in front of the others.

Ruran nods, "Yes those are all true. One should always look out for number one, and if there is an easy way to get what you want then one should take it." he smiled and continued walking. Corrah had yet to seem to figure out that it was when he might get embarrassed that Ruran would get more angry and more vicious.

Corrah was silent as he led Ruran into a large clearing. For once he had nothing to say, and not because he was being unsociable. Well, he would see if Ruran would even be able to move in the morning - because he wasn't going to give him any rest until he was good and exhausted tonight.

There was a wide open space entirely surrounded by trees, and ringed by large boulders that were nearly as tall as Corrah's shoulders.

"All right," he told Ruran, pushing him towards the middle of the clearing, "what I want you to do is attack me. As hard as you can. Do anything you wish, but no tools or weapons. Use only your own body."

He stood near Ruran with his hands out slightly to the sides, inviting the boy to attack him. He doubted he would be hurt, no matter what Ruran tried: his muscles were like rocks, his skin like leather. He hadn't felt pain in a very long time.

Ruran rised a brow, "I don't know how to attack without a weapon...or with one. And I don't want to just flail cause I know for a fact that will not work." He said watching the adult and dusting the dirt off of himself.

Kanis woke and opened her eyes. "I guess I should pack up mine and Ruran's things huh?" She asked Armus softly.

Corrah raised one eyebrow in surprise.

"You don't know how to punch, or kick, or jab, or anything like that?" he asked, barely able to disguise the surprise in his tone. "I thought everyone knew how to do that without being shown."

He laughed. "Well I suppose that just goes to show that even your words of anger are empty."

His eyes glowed an icy blue as he looked at Ruran once more. "Come here and let me show you," he told the boy softly. "And we'll see if you can remember even this lesson."

Armus had been resting against a tree near where Kanis had fallen asleep, but at the girl's words she became alert once more and smiled at her.

"Just your own," she said softly. "Corrah will return for Ruran's things later, and you will be sleeping in a different area from his anyways. It would be of little use for you to take Ruran's things with you."

She glanced over at Aras and Rhea. They looked so sweet together, she really didn't want to wake them ... well, she knew Aras had already packed her things together, so perhaps she could leave them for a few minutes more while Kanis packed her own.

Ruran glared, "My words are not empty! I just know you would correct everything I do so I should just let you show me the right way first!" his fists clenched already the wrong way with his thumb under his fingers. Maybe this would not be worth it, he was sure his father could find him a better non tainted elf.

Kanis nods, "But even if we are living in different areas I could still bring it up. It would be less of a walk for Corrah then. Or at least less of a burden." She followed Armus' eyes and looked at the wolf and her sister. If only things could be so easy.

She shook her head and moved to pack up her things. Well at least she would pack his things up.

Armus watched Kanis, her eyes growing soft and a faint smile playing about her lips.

"Oh, Kanis," she murmured softly, more to herself than to the elven girl, "you try so hard to be kind to everyone ..."

She sighed, then moved to help Kanis, holding the bag open for her. She smiled warmly at the young girl.

"Your parents should be proud of you," she said softly. "You are such a hard worker, kind to everyone ... you truly have a pure heart."

Corrah glared right back at the boy. "Well if you know I'm going to correct you then show me what you do know so that I can!" he retorted. "If you're going to wait for me to show you every little thing, you're never going to get anywhere. You have to have some common sense, you have to be able to do some things on your own!"

His eyes moved down to Ruran's closed fists, and he nodded, satisfied. "See? You may not know what to do, but your body does."

He moved to kneel beside Ruran, taking the boy's fist in his hands.

"Now," he instructed, "two things. First, never have your thumb inside of your fingers - if you hit something, you're going to break it, and you'll spend weeks recovering. Also ..."

He grimaced. "It hurts."

He helped Ruran rearrange his fist so that his thumb was outside of his fingers.

Kanis shook her head, "I am not pure of heart. And...well I know some people will help me someday in return. I mean you and Corrah are training us. Your letting us into your life so it is only fair for us to try hard for your sacrifice." she said and finished packing up her stuff before walking over and starting to pack up her brother's stuff.

Ruran allowed Corrah to correct him and for once did not have a witty or rude comment He nodded and did as Corrah should him. "So shall I try to punch your hand and you can tell me what is wrong?" It seemed for once he was willing to listen, learn, and try.

"In a moment," Corrah smiled gently at the boy. He didn't mind Ruran at all when he was like this ... it made him wonder why he couldn't always be this way. "First, there is one more thing to remember ... never, ever hit with your fist completely closed."

He gently pried Ruran's fist open so that his fingers were not tight against his palm.

"Hitting something with your fingers curled entirely in will break you fingers, just like hitting with your thumb inside will break your thumb," he explained, reaching to adjust Ruran's other fist as well. "Believe it or not, you can hit just as hard with your hands slightly open ... Now, try hitting my hands."

And he took a few steps back, knelt again, and held up his hands, palms wide open and facing forward, waiting for Ruran to try hitting him.

Armus smiled to herself. Kanis's words only convinced her more and more to the contrary ... she did indeed have a pure heart, and she was a wonderful girl.

"I'm sure that you will indeed have such goodness returned to you someday," she said softly, kneeling to help Kanis pack Ruran's things as well. "But don't think so little of yourself. You are indeed a good person."

Ruran nods, "Okay I think I go it...." he nods holding his hands right, he opened then then shut them again to make sure he could follow the rules about a fist. He smiled at his hand then looked up at Corrah's hands he smiled and slammed his fist into Corrah's palm. Then did the same with the other one.

Kanis shook her head, "Well thank you maybe it will turn around from me, but if not its okay. I just want to see my family happy. I would not ask for anything to be returned to me." she nods and once she finished her brother's bag she looked over to her sister and the wolf.

Armus couldn't help herself; she reached over and put one arm around Kanis's shoulders, drawing the girl close for a tight hug.

"I'm sure it will come back to you," she smiled warmly. "You're too sweet for it not to."

Then she gave Kanis one more squeeze, rose to her feet, and headed over to wake Aras and Rhea.

Aras was fast asleep, comfortable and very warm, her fingers still laced in the fur of Rhea's back. He was lying with his head on her chest, his body between her legs, her arms around his back (of course with one hand inside of his clothes), and one of her legs had wrapped around his in her sleep.

Kanis blinked as she was pulled into a hug and was a tad confused. "Thank you for your hopes Armus. I am sure that you are right." She hugged Armus back and then watched her walk away.

Rhea's eyes opened has his ear caught the sound of someone coming near him and his sleeping partner. His body tensed a bit and he was going to growl or attack but he was momentarily distracted by Aras' position along his body. He took a deep breath of Aras his hand sliding very carefully down her hip, the robe starting to develop a slight bulge. But then he growled and lifted his head to look at Armus.

As soon as he saw his mother he stopped the growl and looked at her curiously.

Aras felt something pressing against her leg and she rose slowly to wakefulness just in time to see Rhea looking in front of them, and she tilted her chin up to look up and see Armus approaching them.

"Is it time to go?" she asked, raising her free hand to cover up a yawn. She stretched the fingers of her other hand, rubbing them in the fur of Rhea's back, then slowly withdrew her arm from his clothes and rested both of her hands on his back.

Armus smiled at the children, suspecting why Rhea had been growling, and since he had stopped she felt no reason to comment on it.

"Yes," she replied, kneeling down by the two and ruffling Rhea's hair affectionately. "Time to keep going. Get your things together, and I'll take the three of you to where you and Kanis will be sleeping from now on."

Corrah smiled briefly and nodded, his hands not moving at all as Ruran hit him.

"Again," he said softly. "As hard as you can. Put everything you've got into it ... just don't miss, or you'll be going in circles for a while."

The boy was not strong ... but Corrah didn't expect him to be. Not yet. They had a long way to go, after all.
