Dancer smiled softly and came to stand where Blaze was. She looked him in the eyes. Trying hard to keep him focused on her and not the water. Her voice was calm, soft and patient. "It's ok Blaze. The water moves the sand around under your feet but the ground will always be there. If you like we can just stay right here till you feel more comfortable."

He wiggled his feet in the sand experimentaly, looking down at where they would be, if he could see through the murk stirrd up by the waves. His face was streaked with worry, and so were his sends. **Well, I would not consider what I am feeling right now comfortable. Do you have any idea why am I doing this?** He looked up at Dancer, trying to calm himself.

Dancer chuckled softly with that birdsong sound she had for laughter as she said, "It is good to face your fears from time to time. It's good to be fearful but not to let the fear keep you from your goal. Should you need to save someone someday you might have to help them in the water. You might have to help yourself out of the water sometime. Who knows. I'm scared of things as well but I try very hard to overcome them or at least deal with them from time to time." She placed a hand on his shoulder lightly to help steady him and show him she wasn't going anywhere. "I also think you are standing here because I asked you to." Her smile turning to a grin as she teased him just a little.

He rolled his eyes. **I suppose those are good enough reasons. Especially the last one.** He reached up and put his hand on hers, happy to have that small bit of contact. **I find it hard to imagine you being scared of anything.** He looked out over the ocean, and for a few moments all he could think of was the marine cloud layer far out over the ocean. What was out there, acrost the deep? **Have you asked Cross how far that desert of water goes? Does it just go on forever?** His send carried the feeling of being very small, and insignificant. Looking out acrost wide open spaces did that to him. It was a feeling that he liked, in an odd sort of way...

Dancers face lit at the mention of her much missed Crosscurrent. Even if it was only a day she felt like something was missing when he wasn't near enough to touch. Still Blaze was a fun distraction from her lonelyness and he was very sweet. Looking out over the water then back to him she spoke, "No I never thought to ask. Maybe I could take you sometime to a spot on the cliffs where you can look out and all you see is the vast deep. It really is breath taking." She moved a little to brace against a wave but it just pushed them both. She fell into him and hands gripped his arms to brace but it didn't matter as the wave washed up over both of them sending them tumbling to the shore.

**That would be fun. Where did you-** He saw the wave coming behind heir, and his eyes widened. *Watch-** Then they were underwater, and Blaze clung onto her for dear life, quite shure he was going to drown. The water rushed and gurgled in his ears, went stinging up his nose, and floded his mouth as he gasped reflexively for air. Then the wave washed back, and he he opened his eyes, unshure for a second where he was or what had happened. Then he realized Dancer was on top of him, and that he was no less than holding her in his arms. He was silent for a moment, too shocked for words by the suddennes of it all. **Oh dear. I am quite sorry about that.** His send carried an embarassed apology, and he blushed furiously, unwrapping his arms from around her and attempting to push himself up into a sitting position. It didn't work very well with Dancer still on him.

She coughed and sputtered a bit before she noticed where she was and Blazes face. All she could do was laugh as she removed herself from him and sat next to him in the surf. Still laughing a little at him but a lot at just the wave catching them off guard she sent, *It's alright Blaze. You see it didn't kill you to be under the water now did it?* The send was gentle and understanding as she tried not to make a big deal of any part of what happened. She saw that red face and knew the feeling all to well of it. That thought alone pulling her eyes to the far off water as she called out to her sweet water elfs mind alone. *Are you back from your search yet my dear one?* Looking back then to Blaze she smiled. "You want to stand again or are you good sitting here?"

As he sat up, the extremely unpleasant feeling of half a lungfull of seawater hit Blaze like a kick in the gut. He pitched forward in agony, wretching uncontrollably, his back arching and fingers digging into the sand. He hacked and coughed violently, then threw up, the saltwater acting on his lungs and stomach simultaneously. **Not quite. But almost.** He shook the water and sand from his hair, and shuddered. **I think I'll live. No more swims for me, at least for a while.** He stood unsteadily to his feet, walked past Dancer to his clothing, and pulled on his pants.

Dancer made a worried face as Blaze doubled over and moved to his side as he got up. "Are you sure you're ok?" She shook her head and enjoyed the warmth of the day star on her flesh for a bit longer before dressing as well. She didn't like that Blaze's time in the water ended badly. "So you come from a place that was dry and water was scares? The sand was your ground and plants were few?" Her question held a childlike wonder to it that such a place exsisted at all.

Blaze sat down with his back to a sun-heated log, the hot air drying his hair. **It was not that water was scarce. It just was never constant. Sometimes it would rain for days on end, and the dunes would flow with quick-floods, and wash out onto the plains. Then grass would sprout overnight, and flowers would leap up out of nowhere. Then it would just dry up, and the water would sink into the sands. It never followed any predictable pattern; sometines it was dry and dead for over a dozen turns of the moon. I have head tales of longer. Then we had to go to the hills, or travel between the places where water whelled up out of the ground. Those never lasted long.** He sighed. **Point is, it was inconstant. This is all new to me. I keep imagining I will wake up and it will all be gone, the water, the fish, you.**

Dancer closed her eys as if she knew the meaning well of that last statement. "I know what you mean. You feel like this might be the sweetest dream you ever had and dread closing your eyes because when you open them you will open them for real and we will all be back in the bowles of a living nighmare." Her voice trembled a bit as she spoke and she turned her head away. "For good or bad if this is the dream let me stay sleeping and never wake again if it means going back to what was there when I closed my eyes before." Now her head pulled to the heat of the morning sun. As if it were the thing that kept her here. If Blaze noticed and had a very sharp eye he might see a tear streak her cheek or was that a bit of water from her hair rolling down her face?

He noticed. **I am sorry. I did not mean to put it so bleakly.** He scooted over next to her and put a comforting arm around her shoulders. **The fact that something might not be there tomorrow makes it all the more enjoyable today.**

**When I would drink water from those inconstant pools-**
He paused a moment, wrestling with a memory. **I was never sad that the water would not be there the next day, I did not even think of that. No, I was happy that I had water right then.** He chuckled. **Of course, I always filled a skin with water in case I could not find another soon enough.**

**And you, when you are happy, and dancing, do you think of the end of the dance, or the moment? I shudder to think you would.**

Dancer took a deep breath as she pushed the thoughts from her mind that were trying to spill into this happy time. "I'm alright Blaze." Now she placed a hand on his hand that was about her. "Thank you for being here at this moment. You see, I do have a fear. I fear letting any of you go. I could not take the loss of even one more life." Now the tears streaked a bit more and her body started to shake lightly. She closed her eyes and thought very hard. Pushing her mind into a quiet place to stop all the screaming that only seemed to find its way in when she was sleeping or alone. Swallowing hard after a few moments she lifted her head. A sort of blank look covered her face. "It'll be ok. It will all be fine, right?" Her Sapphire eyes lifting to look into his with the question.

He looked back at her, his orange eyes mirrowing the sunny wampth of his send. **I do not know what will happen. But we can have a good time in our fall, if that is what these days are. I prefer to think they are not.** He gave her a playful shake. **What are we, Wolfriders? We live forever, if we can. And I, for one, plan to live. So does everyone else, from what I see.**
