OOC: Yeah I'll just take 10 and do it.
I did not realize I would need survival skills, or I would not have volunteered. Gathering dead wood seemed to require less skills than unhooking a griffon or setting up tents in a campsite; that's why I picked it to help with. Hope the 10 works.

((gathering wood is typically something not explored in a typical Dungeons and Dragons game as it requires what many players believe to be an excessive ammount of roleplaying realism instead of the more heroic adventures that DnD is known for. A play-by-post game presents a unique opportunity to take care of some of this more mundane activity, because there is no time limit on a "session."
However, this presents some problems, such as the current issue of gathering wood; how do you gather wood? Should it be easy, considering its relative abundance, or should it be hard, considering that a single night's firewood (in dnd) is 20lbs and is available at shops for a reason? These can be hard-to-call grey areas. In any event, the next time we come into town, might I suggest we purchase a week or so worth of wood and simply store it on Swifty? It will not inhibit his ability to fly (he'd need to be carrying 600 lbs to exceed his light load) and it would save time (in game and out).
Oh, and lastly, as a salt on the wound sort of thing, Swifty actually has a +9 on survival; I thought that'd be enough to cover the basic needs of the party (for tracking as well) but I do wonder how a griffon would gather firewood.))

OOC: Maybe this will give me a bonus on the taking 10 since I am attempting to recall some lessons from my distant past when I was in school.
OOC: Next time Anketh, Swifty can find the wood and I can load it up in his storage compartments. That will work better.

Jolly you rolled d8's instead of d20's so those results are not going to be counted until they are corrected
tj the ten alone passes you you find enough wood for afew hours so with the total of wood you collect should be enough atleast until after you are sleeping and to let you know the dc is 10 but for every 2 after 10 you gain an additional hours worth of wood.

((Tjjurisgamer has told me via pm that his wood-gathering has taken him two hours to complete. Is this true, because if it is, that means that Swifty is now awake and done resting for the day(/night) and can start doing other things.
Now, if I am correct, our party composition is four people: Swifty, Liiam, Jovian and Reldan. Of our group, Swifty and Liiam don't need to eat. Swifty need only sleep 2 hours a day, and Liiam need never sleep. Liiam doesn't make the greatest lookout ever (+4 spot/listen) when compared to Swifty (better skills and scent) but if he will take the job, that leaves Swifty a full eight hours in which to do things while the others sleep.
What that is means is that (putting gathering wood aside as an awkward task for a lone griffon) he can either fly around the area and get a good look of our surroundings or he can choose to gather food (hunt). I notice that of our eating charecters, only one brought his own food, and only two days worth. Swifty has ten day's worth of food, but if he can be allowed to gather food from the land, he won't need to draw on those stores until we really need them (trapped in some gods-forsaken dungeon in the middle of nowhere).
My thoughts are that he can supply food for himself at a DC 10 and one more person for each +2 above that when moving half speed. Since an average group of adventurers sleeps for 8 hours of the day, that leaves roughy 16 hours left. Even assuming all that time is left to traveling, moving at half speed would be the equivalent of a full-speed 8 hours. Since Swifty has eight hours, it makes sense to me that he could use the standard check to find food during this time.
Thoughts? Opinions? Questions?))

DM - Jovain will take 20 to gather more wood, placing the wood into his bag of holding as he gathers it.
___________________________
OOC - Sorry Anketh I misread the post. It did not take me two hours to gather the wood, but in fact taking 10 allowed me to gather enough wood for two hours of burn time in our fire.
PS: I also have 4 days of dry meat, 4 days of dry fruit, and 4 days of cheese rations with me. In addition, I have various materials in my pack to make soups for the party.
Thus, any fresh food we can gather off the land would stretch our resources and would be very helpful. We can roast large pieces of meat over the fire, and I have spices and seasonings to improve their flavor. If nothing else, I can use small amounts of meat and vegetables we gather off the land to make nutricious soups for everyone.
I can also share in the watch time. As an elf, I need only meditate for 4 hours each day and will be fully rested. Thus, I can take 1/2 of the nightly watch. (Listen +5; Spot +eight).

it is 3 hours worth of wood and actually you spent an 2 hours collecting wood earlier TJ so now you spent 3.5 hours and gained 8 hours of wood total also the party are Ragnus (a blue), swifty, Liiam, Jovain, and reldan... ragnus speaks undercommon but he is the least active player so far.

As he places the wood and kindling into his bag of holding, Jovain calls out to the others "I have enough wood. Let's go back to the camp site."
Jovain will wait and and move together back to the campsite as a group. Once there, he will unload the wood from his bag of holding.
"I suggest we keep whatever wood we do not need to burn tonight. In fact, when I'm on watch I would prefer to have a very small fire so I can see easier into the night. Someone who has skill with building fires should start the fire. I'm just not very good at it," sighs Jovain as he plops down on a tree stump to rest.
Taking a few crackers, a piece of dried apricot and a small piece of jerky from his pack, he surveys the forest surrounding the campsite as he eats his dinner.
