Sensing an opening, Kane struck. He expected his blow to be dodged or pushed back which was exactly what happened. However, he tried to anchor himself in position or at least make it harder for Hamma to push him away. Kane dug his heels into the rough sand, reflecting that he wouldn't be able to do this as well in normal terrain, but what the hell ninja should use their surroundings to their advantage. Also, he was thinking about how his mother would be treating this situation as an unofficial foot scrub. Well, he knew she'd jest about it, at least. He didn't know if it was his superior heel digging skills or just determination, but he managed to hold it out, still in a defensive position, until Hamma's strength waned just for that moment and he relaxed. Then Kane executed a simple 180 degree spin around the large blacksmith until he and his sword got a face full of Hamma's back. Unable to believe it, he lifted his sword and struck.

Kane heard the sound of wood thumping flesh, hard, and after completing his spin that resulted from his attack opened his mouth to apologise. It occurred to him not to, since the whole point of the exercise was to hit Hamma, and besides what could a boy like him do to this huge giant? But Kane was too well trained by his mother and after he stopped around 1 to 2 metres away from Hamma and put his bokken temporarily back into its sheath he bowed and said sheepishly, "Sorry, I didn't mean to do it that hard..." Well, he wouldn't do that to fellow Shimagakure and ally shinobi anyway. Kane was sure that he'd be able to exert the appropriate force and ruthlessness to all of his enemies...

"Um..." he felt his face turn a little red after realising that apologising was really quite unnecessary and glanced around, looking for something to distract. But he couldn't find anything. Well then. He supposed that the only thing to do was to keep going.

"Again," he muttered, half to Hamma for some reason and half to himself, to get himself going. Dropping into a half-crouch, he drew his sword again quickly before moving. Kane was half imitating Iaijutsu which he knew was for katana and wholly inappropriate. But whether or not it would affect his attack this time remained to be seen. At any rate Kane would learn yet another thing about swordsmanship after this attack.

During his fancy attempt to free his sword Kane hit a snag. Literally. The sword got a little stuck halfway through and Kane had to pull extra hard to get it out. Nothing had happened to the bokken itself; maybe Kane had just put it back in its sheath too hard or something. Kane didn't do anything embarrassing like lose his balance and land on his bum or anything like that either. It was just that due to this unforeseen extra movement, Kane's momentum was thrown way off track. He ended up striking at around a foot's distance from where he had actually intended to. Well, that was the last time he tried Iaijutsu for at least a few months. And he'd need to read about it first. Kane belatedly realised that he did do a lot of fooling around and well, he'd have to rectify that. Figuring that he'd already embarrassed himself in front of Hamma once, Kane wasn't too bothered about this mess-up. He did want to finish up, though. The sun was past its high point already and Kane kind of wanted lunch. He wouldn't stop until Hamma told him he could, though. Plastering a small half-smile, half-grimace on his face Kane assumed the attack stance again and ran towards Hamma.

Although Kane was repelled, not so easily this time though (!!) he did not give up. He persisted in his attack, refusing to retreat, moving this way and that quickly. Eventually Hamma would tire or not be able to keep up with his movements, which would give Kane a chance. Kane felt a strange energy boost which he attributed to himself telling his body that lunch would be coming soon. Already he could taste the onigiri his mum had made and feel it sliding down his throat. It was a good thing he'd done some agility exercises with Natamo-sensei because if he wasn't as used to dodging around like he was, he wouldn't be able to multitask. Of cousre, that didn't mean that he was perfect at it, but he was able to handle this small distraction and still keep an eye on the situation. His fist tightening his grip on his bokken, he eventually brought it round in what he hoped was a strong attack. Kane theorised that the momentum from his moving around, as well as his arm's circular motion would combine to give his strike speed and strength.

But Kane didn't count on aim. He supposed and conceded that his attack could have been seen from a mile away as it was artfully dodged by a non-tired Hamma. All that moving around was for nothing in the end. Well, Kane supposed that Hamma must still have some of his old ninja training in him. He'd heard rumours and certainly seen for himself that Hamma used to be quite the skilled ninja in his prime, after all. And even without that those huge muscles were not to joke with. Kane wondered belatedly why he'd dared to confront Hamma in the first place. The benign expression that Hamma usually wore to comfort scared little kids was totally absent now. Seems like Hamma was still angry about those two kids just running off, and Kane almost sighed. One part of him would give a lot to being as innocent as those kids seemed to act like they were, while another part of him actively resisted that thought. What was the point when his mind and heart would only get tarnished again?

...so, his habits would take much effort to break, would they. Slapping himself lightly Kane vowed again not to fall into internal introspection. How weird he must have looked just staring into space while he pondered the things above. Not to mention that if he did this in battle it would probably mean the end of him. Forcing himself to FOCUS, Kane grabbed his sword again, his fingers squeezing the handle so much that they hurt. Good. He wouldn't lose concentration. And he half-ran, half-jogged at Hamma again with the intent to... well, strike.

Kane really needed to get the intent to kill thing down.

Kane was more than freaked out when Hamma turned his death glare on him. His eyes widened and he abandoned his attack almost immediately. Oh Kane, you spineless brat. Finally recovering his wits Kane started to ask why Hamma was so angry, but his bright, wide open eyes might have conveyed the question because Hamma only got madder. He approached Kane with eyes narrowed and there was something about his attitude that made Kane really fear for his life. Oh... Kane understood now. It was about his intent to kill. Hamma could sense how half assed it had been and if his passionate speech to the student kids had been any indication, he had quite a strong opinion about a ninja's way of thinking as well. Although that had been proven by the whole 'heroes' and 'gods' thing...

Nodding, Kane readied his bokken again and took the attack stance. He really tried to have the intent to kill. But at this moment all he could muster was an intent to harm. Well, he'd keep working on it. It was because Hamma was an ally, after all. Kane told himself that he'd be able to lay it on thick on an enemy ninja. But he wasn't so sure. Nonetheless, focusing really hard on his body and not his wandering mind, he ran towards Hamma again, really quickly, his bokken at the ready.

Kane first faked a straight thrust at Hamma's stomach, which nobody should rightly fall for because neither the bokken nor his imaginary dao was a stabbing weapon, but still, it was practice. Then he leapt back a little and tried to fight Hamma straight on. His bokken got blocked each time, but it was all part of Kane's plan, which was going smoothly. No, he wasn't about to try disarming Hamma or even just holding his staff in place (which he couldn't, anyway), or anything stupid like that. Was he stupid? Hamma would probably shatter his sword to pieces if he tried to pit his own strength against the blacksmith's. After a couple of straightforward front attacks Kane aimed at Hamma's right, and saw the staff coming up to block, just as he'd predicted. Changing tack quickly Kane performed a right slash with his bokken towards Hamma's left. Although it was a basic fake and not as flashy as his previous successes, this successful hit still left Kane with a satisfied feeling. Like he'd always believed, fakes were an important part of combat, after all, and this one was the simplest one, yet performed well.

Manuke gained a little confidence from his successful block, so he put on a little grin. He raised the staff a little. With a larger smile on his face, but his eyes still narrowed, He prepared to strike Z. When he was ready, he sprung forward and with another battle cry, he swung his staff to the side in a wild frenzy.

Z's soul felt crushed by the little grin. Like it existed only to make him physically ill. As if it was some manifestation of that he hated in the world. He was almost pleased when the smile split into another grating battle cry. He was sick and tired of this fight. He pulled himself back from his ire and channeled it into a block that, he hoped, was powerful enough to keep him from getting hit again.

(Z is really irritable today. blaugh )

Manuke saw that his block was deflected and immediately lost his smile. I suppose that I forgot to focus.... He got ready for Z's attack which should be coming soon.

Z was even more pleased when Manuke abandoned his smile. Z was sick and tired of being beaten and enduring annoying people. He refused to do both at the same time. Zero was not in a very good mood today. Batsu had gone off screaming about something and his head still ached from his sickness. He quickly prepared another swing. He couldn't hold in agrunt but he resisted the battle cry as he swung at Manuke's side.

Manuke was getting very pissed at how this battle was going. He gritted his teeth into a snarl. He wasn't going to lose this one. He raised his staff to block the incoming attack and braced himself with a little growl, hoping that he would withstand the attack.

((You should include the training information in that post.))

Manuke's smile gave Zero a small smirk. He would usually never enjoy someone else's unhappiness as much as he would right now. It must be his sickness. 'No need to fight it.' He thought, his smirk growing a bit. This was a great way to vent.

Manuke's block failed and he felt the force of the staff hit him. Manuke was mad that he was losing. When he saw Z's smirk, he got even angrier. His next attack would have to make up for his past mistakes. He lifted the weapon and jabbed towards Z with a loud yell.

Zero was very much enjoying Manuke's apparent annoyance. This of course caused his smirk to expand into a full blown grin. Z was also happy that he finally had a chance to win a fight. His spirits were beginning to lift as Manuke swung at him. He quickly attempted a simple parry with the staff. They connected and he applied a bit of force to knock Manuke's staff away. Z took a step back to get into a more offensive stance. His grin began to show a bit of teeth.
