"Never had the chance after the first time," Donovan admitted, "Never really ran into him, though I suppose he avoids the house a bit after the children arrive. Lin says a few things, but it's Miyu who's turned into a chatterbox after every visit. Which is the part I'm still trying to figure out, you know how shy Miyu is around people. Yet.... it's Yami-san she visits whenever she gets the chance, it's really the only reason why she comes with us every single time."
Which sort of floored him in more ways than one.
"Probably.... the only thing Wish would tell me, was that it was a lot of people at that time. Daddy knows of course, but I haven't asked him yet."

Ulrich nodded, smiling to himself in the darkness. That was good, it meant that Lin was keeping her secret just as she had been asked.
"He's Adanedhel's favourite person, too," he agreed, "and he spends quite a bit of time with Aliya and Amdir as well. Even Shael looks up to him ... and I hear Arwen seeks him out every once in a while, too."
Elros nodded thoughtfully. "Perhaps you should ask him, then," he suggested. "You won't know unless you do."

It was kind of odd when he thought about it, it seemed Aragost did better with children than anyone else on the Ranch.
"The kids do like him a lot don't they?"
Lin nodded at that, "Yea, or maybe I could ask Mommy, I think she was there too. Or Triton, if he's not busy... maybe if I catch him in the kitchen then I could ask him."

Ulrich nodded his agreement. "Aye, they do ... and I know Adanedhel adores him, just about worships him. I can't say as I mind, after all, the situation being what it is ... and Aliya and Amdir don't mind, so even if I did I wouldn't be able to say anything about it."
He stopped them in front of the dark man's door and knocked.
Elros chuckled. "So your brother enjoys cooking?" he asked amusedly. "That's good. I understand he's also an excellent fighter, though it seems as though he doesn't prefer that path."

Donovan nodded at that statement, he sort of understood what Ulrich meant. Besides, at least he would be safe with Aragost around so it wasn't such a bad thing that Adan and the other children liked being around the man. Though why it was so easy for children was beyond Donovan, it only confirmed that Aragost made himself scary on purpose. Why, he didn't know, but it would be hypocritical of him to ask now in his life.
Lin nodded, "Yea, he just kind of begun doing that so he could eat what he wanted instead of what was at the school. Triton though, knows a lot about fighting, Mommy said he practiced a lot growing up."
A lot was kind of an understatement if what the older siblings said was true. Triton still did, practice that was, but he had no real reason for doing so, and without the need to travel.
"Sometimes he gets roped into teach though."

The door opened only a moment later, and a very energetic Adan exclaimed "Neko!" and pounced on Ulrich. Then he grinned at Donovan. "Guess what guess what! Ara-kun's going to take me up into the mountains tomorrow! Isn't that so neat? It's gonna be so much fun!"
A moment later, the tall cloaked and hooded figure himself appeared in the doorway. He didn't say anything, just gazed out at the group, but the air around him was warm and clear.
Elros chuckled. "Well, I would say something to the effect of being surprised, considering how many other teachers there are, but I suppose that would sound a little hypocritical, wouldn't it now?"

Ah the difference a child makes, at least that was what Donovan was thinking noting how it was much easier than before. Though he also had to wonder at times what was it with children and mountains. He probably shouldn't ask, there were advantages to go up there anyhow.
Donovan looked up (as usual), "Hello."
"Well it's easier when it has to be one on one," Lin giggled, "Like Triton had to teach Irvine to block hits, because he panics easily and it's kind of dangerous to be around him when he's using magic because of it. Though... if Shi hadn't been such a grump that problem wouldn't have happened in the first place."
She hadn't understood it before, but she understood better after she grew, sort of. Lin still didn't fully understand Shi's problem, but she just figured he needed more friends.
And he needed to know how to play.

A moment passed before the dark cowl dipped forward slightly, and Aragost's deep, raspy tone emitted from the shadows within:
"Hello." There was a brief pause, and then he added, "I ... am glad that you decided ... to come see me ... rather than not."
Adan grinned and darted back to Aragost's side. "'Course he would, Ara-kun!" he giggled. "He's gotta see everybody 'fore he goes! Right, Donovan-san?"
Elros cocked his head curiously. "And who are Irvine and Shi?" he asked. "You haven't mentioned either of them before."

"Yea," Donovan replied, "I do, or at least as many people as possible before I'm off again."
Ara-kun it sounded just about as cute as Yami-san. Though Donovan wouldn't be caught dead calling the man either name, he wouldn't be able to pull it off with as much innocence. He looked back up at Aragost.
"Besides, it has been a while and I'm always coming and going from here."
Now that Lin thought about it, it was funny she hadn't at least mentioned Shi before, but it had never occurred to her to. She wondered where to start, but from as much of the beginning was possible.
"Irvine is human, but magic runs in his family. He spends most of his time studying, but he's a bit absentminded... like this one time he was looking for his glasses, and thought he lost them, but really they were on top of his head. And then there's Shi, Shi is a naga. So... unlike Feng, who's fish half way down, he's a snake, and his tail is very, very, very long and big. Sometimes, if I'm at the school, and Shi doesn't have classes he looks after me."

Aragost nodded again. "Indeed you are ... though ... not ... perhaps ... as much as your daughter ... or granddaughter ..."
Lin and Miyu (Miyu especially), though they weren't around often, spent quite a bit of time with him when they were around, and he had to admit (to himself only though) that he was quite fond of them.
"It's nice to have them here ... every so often."
"Interesting," Elros murmured softly to himself. "I've never heard of anyone like that before ..."
He cleared his throat awkwardly. "But ... speaking of lessons ... shall we continue?"

That sort of clued him in on how much time they spent in Aragost's company. Which wasn't a bad thing and if he didn't mind then that was good. The girls loved spending time with him of course.
"And they enjoy it here too," Donovan replied softly, "It's good for them, so I'm glad."
"Oh yea," Lin nodded, "Okay, let's keep going."
Now that everything had settled down, though Lin made a note to visit Arthael and Halmir again later.

Within the shadows of his cowl, Aragost smiled.
"As am I," he murmured in reply. "Every time they come."
Adanedhel was getting impatient. "Ara-kun!" he pouted, tugging on the man's arm. "Let's go! You said we could go!"
A low chuckle emanated from the depths of the cowl, and it dipped forward slightly once. "Indeed ... I did," he agreed. He bowed his head briefly to Donovan. "Excuse me," he murmured. "Safe journey."
And he and Adan brushed past Donovan and Ulrich, closing the door behind them and heading down the hall towards the stairs.

"Thanks," Donovan murmured as he watched Aragost and Adan go down the hall and disappear out of sight. At least in the darkness it would seem like that.
"Well.... I guess Elros now."

Ulrich chuckled at Donovan. "Well, I guess that was a bit different from what you might have been expecting, hm?"
He turned to face the other way and knocked on Elros's door. "Actually, that's the most social I've ever seen him ... except for one time."
Elros looked up at the sound of the knock, then smiled at Lin. "Excuse me," he murmured, rising and heading over to the door.

"To be honest I didn't know what to expect," Donovan replied dryly, "He's quite... mysterious."
That was perhaps the best term to put it, he didn't know how else to put it.
