I get it now. Giving isn't really giving at all if you expect to be thanked; it's trading for gratitude. If I'm going to give, I should give unconditionally, and if I can't handle that, then maybe I shouldn't give at all until I can.
But.. I like giving. I like seeing people get excited and, in their jubilation, forget the things that are troubling them, even if it's just for ten, fifteen minutes. It makes me feel good to know that I could make their day a little happier. A positive reaction is usually reward enough, but not with her.
I just don't like feeling like I can't say no. That's why giving to her doesn't feel good; it doesn't come from a motivation to make her smile, it comes from a fear of starting a shitfest that I really can't be bothered to finish.
That's what I've gotta do then, I guess. Say yes when the sponsoring thought is love, say no when the sponsoring thought is fear. It's...actually really ******** simple when one looks at it that way, but something tells me I'll be blocking out a lot more of her temper tantrums from now on.

I wonder why we pay attention to what we pay attention to when we pay attention to it.
I mean, why do you get the urge to look at the clock when you do? Does anyone ever question "why now, why not five minutes ago?"
I mean, I guess that's not really important, but people make a lot of thoughtless, instantaneous decisions like that every day; I wonder how many of them we're actually aware of, and why we're aware of the ones we are.

Medeus lol if only Science could answer these questions! D: Science can't tell you why, it can only tell you how. I don't think a lot of people consider the 'why' more important than the 'how' - some people don't even consider the 'why' important at all. I wonder why. Maybe the why's too hard to find, so they settle for the how. Or maybe they just don't care why. Or maybe they already know.

I think that most of the time, since people really can't answer the "why" they substitute "why"s with the scientific "hows". Q. "Why is the sky blue?" A. "Because of the way light from the sun refracts in the air!" Q. "Well yeah but....why Blue?" A. "Uh....." razz

The thing about science is that sometimes it starts with a "why" question and it ends up going into the How.
