Peine and Sel made haste from the Pokemon Fan Club and to the Pokemon Center. As the two made it into the Pokemon Center, they fell on the floor panting and laughing. “Did you see the look on his face Sel, it was freaking priceless!!”

Sel couldn’t stop laughing, her body flailing all over the floor because of it. Many of the eyes in the room went towards the friends directions due to their actions, giving a face of disgust.

“Excuse me, but can I help you two??” the nurse of the center asked the two.

Peine and Sel finally calmed down after hearing the voice, noticing all of the attention that they drew towards them. “Um…ya…do you have a video phone here? I need to check in with a couple people.”

“They’re on the second floor near the guest station. And if you and your Pokemon have anymore obnoxious you’ll be booted out of here.”

‘That’ll be the second place in only a couple hours, Lorelei would kill me if she found out that I got in this much trouble on my first day out on my own.’ “OK then, I’ll just put Sel in her pokeball to make things easier and head up. Bye everyone!” Peine said nervously as he put his Sneasel in her ball and walked upstairs to the video phones. Peine sat at one of the booth, and dialed Lorelei’s number while putting on the headset. He waited for a couple seconds until his guardian picked up the phone. “Hey Lorelei, Sel and I made it to Vermillion.”

“That’s great sweety, I’m so proud of you. I’ve been waiting for you to call, Professor Oak wants you to call him immediately, he says that he wants you to run an errand for him.”

“OK, I’ll call him now, love you Lorelei.”

“Wait, Peine, have you gotten in any trouble yet?”

‘….Dammit….’ “No Lorelei, Sel and I have been good citizens,” Peine lied, putting a big smile on his face. “Tell the Pokemon I said hi and that I already miss them Lorelei, I’ll call you soon.” Peine hung up the phone, sighing in relief that he didn’t crack in front of his Foster-Mother. ‘Lemme call Oak right now.’ Peine dialed Oak’s number, it ringing a bit longer than Lorelei. After about thirty seconds, the professor finally picked up the phone.

“Why hello Peine, I needed to speak with you quickly. About our appointment today…”

“What about our appointment professor??”

“It has to be postponed. I need you to go to Jhoto to do a couple errands for a friend of mine, Professor Elm. He lives in New Bark Town and needs your service. He already has your Pokedex and will give it to you once you get there.”

“I ask to get a Pokedex and I’m all ready doing favors, is that right old man??” Peine stated with a bit of sharpness in his voice.

“First, your Foster-Mother got you this Pokedex, you didn’t get it yourself. I have a list of other trainers that are begging to get a Pokedex, I chose you because of your guardian and because of your previous knowledge of Pokemon. Also the gyms in the Jhoto region are great for beginning trainers like you and there are a lot of Pokemon in Jhoto that you would like. A lot of them have shown up in your home region, the Sevii Islands, so it’ll be a bit of nostalgia for you. Do you get it now??”

“Yes professor, sorry ‘bout that, I was just really looking forward to this, and now I gotta find a way to get to Jhoto.”

“Here, for you doing this, I’ll send you a train pass. Take it to the station in Saffron and take the train to Goldenrod. From there you should be about a week’s worth of travelling from there. You should also pass three gyms there. I wouldn’t take on the Goldenrod Gym yet, but Azalea and Violet should be capable for you Peine.”

“Ok professor, I’ll keep that in mind,” Peine said to Oak, a bit calmed down after his last comment.

“Here’s the pass, I’ll tell Elm that you’re heading to Goldenrod immediately. So long now Peine.” A train pass appeared in an item capsule, shaped like a pokeball, and then Oak hung up.

‘Guess I’m going to be doing some more travelling today,’ Peine thought as he got up and made his way towards Saffron.

Her intuition kicks in as Laichi leaps backward. The smoke fades and two bug pokemon stand before her; Their trainers growing a proud smirk on their clean faces. Laichi spits to the ground while the two Wurmple's lower their heads to her. Laichi can only assume they did not enjoy the insult of her spitting, but she does not care.

"Zii! Come out, we got fresh soft meat to slice up!" Laichi yells as Zii appears in front of the two wurmples with a look saying 'I want to eat you for breakfast.'

"Hold up! This is an unfair fight. You need two pokemon." The girl bug catcher spouts from her mouth with all intention of insulting Laichi.

"Oh no no no, my little annoying friend. You are correct when saying it's unfair, but the unfair part is that your wurmple's are just too weak to fight my Zii." Laichi laughs.

"String Shot!" The two bug catchers scream, and their pokemon react! "Quick Attack, don't let them even know what hit them!" Laichi replies.

Both Wurmples spray a stream of white sticky webbing toward where Zii was. As soon as the two wurmples recognize their attempt was a failure the girl's wurmple is slashed across the side and Zii is seen sliding behind the wurmple, stabbing his claws into the dirt to stop his quick attack's speed.

The two children nod their heads together noticing this fight has to be taken up a notch. They know Zii is fast and skillful now, unlucky for Laichi the siblings are team battlers. They know a thing or two about battling against a single target.

"Sad for you big mouth, we battle kids like you all day long!" The boy comments.

"Yeah, our pokemon are all trained against the toughest pokemon." The girl adds on.

"Well unlucky for you, you two sorry excuses for liars. Zii and I train against everything this planet allows us to use! So if you muck for brains do not shut up and lose then I will shove those wurmples so far up your feebas that you won't be able to walk!" Laichi yells as she gives Zii a wink.

This wink signals to him that the team will attempt some tag team attack tactics. He needs to be ready if Laichi is unable to react in time to command a tactic.

The boy's wurmple runs toward Zii and attempts a tackle. Zii dodges with ease only to be smashed in the side by the other wurmple. Zii with haste slashes downward at the wurmple who just struck his side. Zii shakes it off and lands in a crouched position.

"Zii remember what we used to do when those sweet vines would grab onto us?" Laichi asks, and Zii answers with a 'yes'.

"Well remember that, I feel you'll need to do it soon!" Laichi screams while pointing to the wurmple tackling him to the side.

For a worm, this wurmple is causing some punishment to Zii, but not enough to show any pain. Right when Zii is about to slash a sticky string shot successfully wraps around Zii's arm. The girl's wurmple is struggling to keep Zii from slashing the boy's wurmple.

"DO IT ZII!" Laichi expresses with a smile.

Zii grabs onto the string shot and with no strength need, he whips the wurmple, which is still attached, into the air and then slams it on the ground. With a hard thud, the wurmple feints.

"You did it Zii! Yay!" Laichi screams as she watches the two trainers gasp in a medly of amazement and anger. Laichi thinks these two trainers do not like her very much, oh well.

"Wurmple, tackle him NOW!" The boy screams.

The wurmple, knowing that Zii has slowed down due to the string shot, runs up and slams himself hard against Zii's back. Zii falls forward with a thud.

During the many days of training between Zii and Laichi, neither of them have had the mindset to attack from the back. In this very moment, both of them are thinking of incorporating it into the tactics.

"Zii gets your furry white butt off the ground and cut that wurmple up like tentacool sushi!" Laichi yells in more of a taunting manner.

Zii manages to rise just as wurmple was going to lay another tackle directly into his side. Not being the nicest pokemon out there, Zii grabs the wurmple's face and slams it directly into the ground and slashes across it's back.

The trainer's scream as the wurmple lays unmoving. Zii scoffs and walks back to Laichi.

..to be continued.

Once she'd gotten her food, Train sat herself down at an empty table and released all of her Pokémon except for Oddish. She set up some food for each of them and then proceeded to begin eating her own, trying to start up some light conversation with Carlos, who had joined her. Suddenly, however, Maz was next to her and whispering in her ear. Train nearly jumped out of her skin and glared after the boy as he ran off again, the look on her face quickly changing to a creeped-out one.

She quickly finished eating and recalled her Pokémon once they were done as well. She stood up and looked at Carlos before saying,
"I'm gonna go feed Oddish outside. You should go talk to Maz about the bed situation, because I absolutely do not want to share one, and I'd feel bad about asking for the only bed anyway." With that, she picked up her garbage and headed over to a trash can before making her way to the exit of the Pokémon Center.

Pulling out three Pokeballs and placing them in her open palm, Ryka held her hand in front of Allegra. "You can use these...just try it like...this..." Placing two pokeballs in one palm and one in the other, Ryka began to throw them up in the air in intervals. One ball went up, and before it came down in the other hand, another went up, and so on. However, this wasn't a talent of Ryka's, and she only managed a few rounds of this before dropping all of the pokeballs.

Blushing a bit at her blunder, Ryka quickly bent down to pick up the pokeballs, muttering apologies and whatnot. But Allegra's face glowed as she looked up at the girl with determination. Upon seeing this, Ryka's face glowed as well.

"Ready? Okay, I'll throw these pokeballs to you, one at a time. Just try to keep them in the air with your tail, okay?" Allegra gave an enthusiastic nod, prepping herself in a handstand for her trick. Her enthusiasm got the better of her, however, and she ended up toppling over herself. Ryka bent down to pat the Skitty with a giggle. "It's okay! You might not get it on the first try, but we can always try again."

Kasiya was still picturing the stunned look on Giovanni's face after being defeated by her in a real gym battle. She could see that glimmering eighth badge shining in her hand, and she knew that if she put her mind to it, even she could bring down the Rocket leader in a match like that. She'd also imagined winning Blaine's badge from him as well, for she recalled the skeptical way he'd looked at her, but perhaps that was a good thing. Maybe this whole being underestimated-thing isn't so bad, she thought as she walked. It'll just make my victories that much sweeter. Speaking of victory, Kasiya snapped out of her daydream in time to see Mike speed past them, his cloak flapping along behind him. Kasiya had only a split second of reaction time before she was chasing after him, shouting something about his head-start being unfair.

Kasiya wasn't the fastest of runners, however, and as she rounded a corner she was surprised (and a bit disappointed) to see that Mike had already vanished from sight. She frowned and pouted for a moment before she continued running, this time passing a familiar purple-haired girl - Mitsu. She half-turned around in mid-run to wave at her friend, only to run smack into something solid and Keegan-shaped. "Oof!" she cried as she landed on her butt, though she was pleasantly surprised to find herself unhurt. She looked up at the redhead and pouted again. "Way to block the whole sidewalk," she grumbled.

Needless to say, Jake was a little surprised to see that Black*Star was listening to him without question, and he nodded in approval at the sight of the little gator rearing back to fire his Water Gun. He and Turtwig repeated their attacks several times, and it was safe to say that Jake's thoughts mirrored Robin's, and he turned to look at her as she had made it back to the training ground. "Yeah, moving targets would be great," he mumbled, though he wasn't sure how they'd do that. He looked down at Turtwig, then back over at the targets again. "Okay, I've decided. I'm going to head over to the gym and challenge that Roark guy to a battle," he said finally, accepting Bibarel's Pokeball from Robin while recalling Turtwig into his Pokeball in the same motion. He slipped both spheres into his pocket, and sighed. Something about this seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite place it.

He finished the last of his water and tossed the empty bottle into the recycling bin, and he turned and smiled at the redheaded girl. "I don't really know how to say this, but thanks, Robin. You've been a big help to me this morning. You don't have to stick around if you don't want to."

"My, my, how polite! Thank you, Leon," Roxanne replied, a smile playing across her lips. It was rare that she saw her opponent before sending out her first Pokemon, so this was a pleasant change of circumstance. "I think I'm going to shake it up a little," she said coyly, rubbing her chin with her thumb and index finger. 'This guy hasn't seen battle in a while, I hope he hasn't gotten rusty,' she thought as she tossed out a blue and red sphere, a Great ball, onto the battlefield.

It burst open and in a bright flash of white light a large shape quickly took form, rising up to loom a menacing twenty or so feet from the ground. Onix, the Rock Snake Pokemon, let out a ground-shaking roar and slammed his tail against the ground, glaring at the tiny floating speck of a Pokemon before him. Roxanne smiled, having missed battling with this fellow. Roxanne knew that Onix's attacks would probably have trouble inflicting damage on the Gastly, but that didn't bother her too much. "Start off with a Sandstorm," she told the Pokemon gently, though there was an authoritative edge to her voice.

Onix let out another roar and slashed his tail along the ground, shattering boulders and kicking up a large cloud of sand and grit that quickly took on a mind of its own. It began to swirl and spiral, creating a dangerous and vicious sandstorm that quickly swallowed up the battlefield.

Once she'd taken a few steps outside, Train realised that it had been a bad idea. She glanced back at the Pokémon Center, and though there were streets lights on and the lights from the Pokémon Center washing out onto the street, it was still much to dark out there for her liking--not to mention that the lights didn't manage to hit everywhere, and there were still quite a few pitch-black spots nearby.

The girl hesitantly moved off the to side a bit before taking out Oddish's PokéBall, pressing the button and watching as the timid Grass- and Poison-type appeared before her. The Pokémon also seemed to dislike the dark, as she actually moved closer to Train rather than away from her. Very, very slowly, Train crouched down and took out some food for the little Pokémon, placing it gently on the ground and front of her and watching happily as she began to eat it. Her smile soon faded though, as she glanced upwards and remembered that it was damn creepy out there and that she was basically alone.

The teenager too-dark brown eyes focused on the darkness between the buildings near them, her eyes widening as she thought she saw something move. She jumped to her feet out of fear, completely forgetting about her poor Pokémon's own fear. The Oddish stopped dead and stared up at her, eyes wide, before darting away into that very darkness.

"Ah, no!" Train cried out. "Oddish, no! Please, Oddish! Come back! No, no, no… Crap… Oh, no…"

She took a cautious step forward, nearly bursting into tears as she left the light of the Pokémon Center. She fumbled for one of the PokéBalls on her belt, not even sure which one she'd picked until she'd released the Pokémon. Her Raticate now stood by her side, glancing up at his trembling trainer in the darkness. He was very confused as to what was going on--why were they suddenly outside, in the middle of the night? Nonetheless, he kept by her feet as she slowly crept further into the dark and away from the Center, calling out Oddish's name softly as she did so.

"I know you're mad," Mitsu said, speaking softly, almost meekly, "but will you help me get back to the arena? I don't understand this place." It was only half a lie. The girl was brilliant when it came to puzzles, she just didn't quite want to figure out how to zigzag from point B to get back to point A. It was too much work and she was starting to feel sick. "Please, Karri?"

How could she run? How could she race? It brought back too many memories. Mike had issued the same challenge when they'd first met, the two racing to the Pokemon Center. She had fallen and Mike had asked her if she was fine. She was shy. He was sweet. They were innocent. It seemed like years ago, how so much had changed since then was almost beyond comprehension. In hindsight, their misfortunes began before they met. Clever as they were though, they concealed their pain and torment under a facade of smiles and false personas. Mitsu smiled and laughed, but there was no inkling of happiness nor joy in her actions. Ignorance was indeed bliss she thought, her smile twisting into a sarcastic and disillusioned grin.

The Psychic sighed, she could feel her trainer's saddness from within her Pokeball. The two were close, a metal contraption could not disturb their psychic rapport. In a flash of light the green and white Pokemon appeared, elegant, even with the red spike through her chest. The Gardevoir gave her trainer another quick hug before teleporting themselves to the designated meeting spot. Karri knew there wasn't much she could say, but she was still there for the girl and that's all that was needed. A mutual understanding and a mutual reliance.

The two quickly disappeared into a green portal before materializing right next to Kilik. Karri, having done her duties retreated back into her Pokeball. She would appear when she was needed, now it was time for the humans.

"Hey there," Mitsu squeaked, her voice small. She shook her head, almost violently. No, that's wrong. "Hi Kilik," she tried again, smiling easily at the boy. "Finished training?"

Ghos paused and looked up at the giant rock snake that was materializing in front of Roxanne. He wasn't particularly scared of it, but he also wasn't exactly super confident that he would…well not live through the battle, as he was a ghost, and technically, ghosts couldn't die… Bu--

And then his thoughts were cut off as the battlefield was suddenly swallowed by a raging storm of dirt and rock. It was all actually hitting him, too! The Ghost- and Poison-type squeezed his eyes shut, very much not enjoying the sand constantly hitting him. It wasn't only annoying, but it hurt, too!

Leon was also displeased with this; some of the sand was straying from the field and hitting him as well. He took a few steps back, his face showing obvious distaste for the current situation. "Ghos," He said unpleasantly. "Try to get near it and use Lick."

Though he really would have rather moved away from the sand than farther into it, Ghos obliged and began moving forward, making his way as quickly as he could towards Roxanne's Onix and attempting to stick his tongue out, though the fact that every time he tried to it got covered in sand made him quite hesitant to do so.

After a little bit of practice, Allegra was able to hold a handstand for a minute or so. The little Skitty was easily disappointed when she messed something up, but just as easily encouraged by praise from her trainer. As soon as Ryka clapped and cheered, the Skitty got up and tried again, and again, and again. Her determination will definitely get her far, Ryka thought.

And then practice really began! Ryka threw one ball to Allegra. She was easily able to bounce that one up and down with her tail, and the rhythm of it proved no problem for the Skitty. Ryka threw another ball in. This wasn't as easy for Allegra to balance, for she now had to pay attention to two objects instead of the one. But again, after practicing with it a bit, she was able to hold her own. Ryka waited a little while to throw in the third ball, but when she did, Allegra didn't lose it right away. She had been able to effectively focus on more than one ball, so the third one wasn't as hard as the second.

While Allegra was busy practicing the juggling, Ryka decided to have a small mock-battle, to prep Blitz for his (hopeful) battle later in the day. "Okay Allegra, we're going to practice battling over here. Can you keep practicing that?" Allegra reassured her with a nod. "Alright, just tell me if you get tired or want a break."

In a flash and a bang, Blitz was out and roaming. Electricity crackled around his body, and he looked ready for a fight. Ryka smiled. "All right Iris, let's go!" The Espeon pranced out onto the other side of the field, eying her teammate warily. The two exchanged determined smirks before lunging at each other.

"Blitz, Slam!" Ryka called out. In the middle of his lunge, Blitz turned around and aimed his tail at Iris, who wasn't able to stop fast enough to not collide into him. Iris fell to the ground, but recovered quick enough to attack again. The jewel on her forehead glowed a bright white, shooting white-hot stars in Blitz's direction.

"That's Swift...try to counter with Quick Attack!" A fast attack should be able to counter another fast attack, right? Ryka asked herself. Blitz began to run towards the stars, but was hit by a few before he could get enough momentum. He quickly arose, cheeks sparking, and began to run again, this time jumping o top of the stars as they approached. It was almost as if the stars were platforms, Blitz's own little stages to maneuver on. He adeptly jumped from one to the other, until he slammed into the source, Iris. The two fell over, but again, jumped back up quickly. This was far from over.

After some wandering, Claire and Rajasi finally managed to make it to the outskirts of town. Unfortunately for the two, the place was far from deserted, in fact, it was rather busy with coordinators here and there practicing among various other trainers. But since that was the way things were, the two decided to try and find a small spot to train.

“Hey kid,” Claire asked a boy about her age as he rushed by. The brown haired man turned impatiently, brushing his sleeve and waiting for the blonde to continue. “Is there somewhere we can do some battle training around here?”

“Sure, but you’ll have to hurry and follow me as I'm running a bit behind schedule!” He replied as he began to walk briskly away, Claire and Rajasi falling in step behind him. “There’s a big tournament going on in just a few minutes,” the boy continued still facing straight ahead, “and the grand prize is a pair of tickets to the Contest tonight!”

”Oh really” Claire responded. “I didn’t realize we needed tickets to get in… Good thing we bumped into you… er?” She stopped as the man had not introduced himself yet.

“Ah, here we are.” The man said with a smile as he turned to the two. They arrived at a clearing with a chalk drawn battlefield and several contestants were on either side along with another boy wearing a referee outfit that was quickly moving over from the center of the battlefield.

“Great, you’re here Jacob. Now we can get started, we wouldn’t have wanted to have the sponsor of the event miss the show!” The ref added, handing a megaphone to his partner.

“Sign these two up as well, Kit.” Jacob added. “I’m sure you all will give me a great show.” He said to Rajasi and Claire as the two were ushered to opposite sides of the arena. “I’m glad you’re all here.” Jacob began, talking into a megaphone. “So, give me a good show of your trainer prowess, and you can obtain two tickets to this evening’s Pokemon Contest, courtesy of the Buxamilyon Family. May the events today inspire you to even greater heights and may the contest inspire you to expand your horizons!”

Roxanne couldn't help but smile to herself as the Gastly was swallowed up by the Sandstorm, for not many trainers really knew how to deal with such harsh weather conditions. She too stepped back so that she was just out of the radius of the Sandstorm, though her hair was still being blown around by the winds. She could make out her giant Onix in the middle of the field, and, in comparison, the tiny, inky blob that was Ghos the Gastly. She felt a little bad for the ghost as it attempted to land a Lick attack against the Rock Snake, as the stinging sands couldn't be a pleasant feeling on his sensitive tongue. 'Lick's not a very strong attack, but it can paralyze,' she thought warily. "Onix, give 'em your Screech," she called.

Meanwhile, Onix had no intentions of letting that icky tong touch him, even if he was made out of solid rock. The stone serpent waited until Ghos got close to him, and then he let out what at first sounded like a guttural roar, but it soon changed to a sharp screeching noise, like rocks scraping across metal. Both the Onix and Roxanne hoped it would knock the little Gastly back a bit, and shake him up as well.

Moti wandered around Cerulean for a while, until he was pretty much entirely lost other than the fact that he had gone away from the Pokemon Center. Upon further inspection he noticed a younger girl up ahead with long blonde hair and festive purple dress. She seemed to be training three of her Pokemon: a pink cat thing, a Pikachu, and an Espeon. ’Well anyone with an Eevee-lution is probably worth making friends with. Plus she could probably use a training partner by the look of it. Mag thought to himself as he made his way over.

“Yo! Sorry to interrupt but it looks like you’re pretty busy there. Would you like someone to train with?” The orange haired man said as he scratched the back of his head with one hand while brandishing a Pokeball in the other, deciding to release his trusty Flareon. “The names' Mag, and this is my friend Sunfire," he added with a grin as the fire fox added a gentle bark and quickly jumped onto his shoulder. The firey haired boy had never quite gotten the hang of the friendly talking to strangers thing. Never seemed like they really had much in common since people could train Pokemon for any number of reasons.

Kilik looked up at the sky from the floor, the small circle of blue smiling down at him. He was tossing Cable's Pokeball up and down in his hand, excited to get moving. Nothing would stand in his way, and nobody would be able to handle him when he and Cable worked together! A light flickered in his peripheral and he turned to see the green portal spit out both Karri and Mitsu. He waved at the Gardevoir before she was sucked back into her ball, and he put his hands into his pockets, attaching Cable's ball in the process. "Hey, Mittens," he smiled with a laugh.

"Mike tell you I was down here?" he asked, "I was getting a few last minute rounds with Cable, Flareon and Weezing before we left. Cable's gotten so much stronger now!" He clenched his fists and grinned, "It's absolutely unbelievable. I'd show you, but..." he glanced up at the sky, "I want him at peak condition when we get to the Magma Base." He reached out and took her hand in his.

"Did you sleep well?"

There was something about Maxie that made Giovanni smile. He couldn't quite place his finger on it, but perhaps it was the class that the man seemed to ooze from his pores. "I thought I would check in on a fellow Boss," he closed his eyes, mindlessly petting his Persian. "Though I know you are a busy man, as am I, so I will cut to the chase."

He opened his eyes and looked up at the screen. I dare not inform him that we've come into possession of two of the Relics. If he is also looking for them, we'd have Team Magma swarming our doorstep! "Certainly you've heard of the Three Relics? One in each region, connected in some way." He closed his eyes and took a sip from his scotch. My business is thus, Maxie: have you any information pertaining to the relic within the Hoenn region? I felt asking you would be my...best chance for reliable information, rather than asking that buffoon Archie." Giovanni sat back, waiting on bated breath.

If he knows and is looking for it, he thought, there's no chance that he would tell me! But Maxie's smart... he smirked and sipped his scotch once more. If he wishes to avoid an inter-regional incident, he would give me everything he knows. Let us see.
