"It has been taken care if."

No, he was firmly planted where he was and her pushed into him didn't sway him too much. He steadied her with hands on her shoulders, meeting her gaze and nodded. She was still bleeding, various injuries but especially that gash across the side of her stomach. Even if she could, she shouldn't be flying. But he too blinked at Fang's observations and frowned lightly. There was no way he couldn't have known about the Laerethe... Even Kaz himself hadn't once witnessed Eilynne transform during the battle.... Unless someone had tipped him off... That was not a pleasant thought but right now, he had more important things to take care of.

"Don't make threats you can't afford to keep." Last words to Fang before he picked Jae up, one arm supporting under her back and one to hold her legs as well, and took off for the Chimera. "Hold on." Thank the gods for the short distance because the earlier attacks and the little skirmish with his uncle had taken a toll on him as well. But he knew they should get off the Serpent and away from it as quickly as possible, thus he merely clenched his jaw and landed them safely onto the deck. Xeke had updated him on the situation aboard the ship so he knew that things were out of his hands now. Hunter knew where to go and what they needed to do. Finding a clean cloth and some water, he took to cleaning Jae's wounds for the moment, mind buzzing with concerns and questions.

Thobias shook his head at Gem's antics and boosted her up onto the horse then climbed up behind her and held onto the nightmare's fiery mane. He was taking the chance that she wouldn't burn him since the elf never seemed to worry about it. Her voice had them lurched off the ground and the nightmare flew smoothly towards the Chimera, circling twice and then landing with the clop of hooves on the deck. Sliding off, he rested his hands at Gem's waist and assisted her down as well. "There, that wasn't so bad, right?"

"I don't think it works that way. I didn't feel compelled to answer the call, but perhaps whoever used whatever it was only wanted the mounts and not the more intelligent and noble dragons. Or perhaps you just have to up the certain something to appeal to the more bestial nature. I don't know. We'll have to figure out what it is first but for now, let them go and let's meet and discuss the best way to do this. Come on."

Landing on the Chimera, she shifted into the neutral form of the dragon, with long ebony hair and sparkling blue eyes. She could retain this form for a little longer. She walked over to the dragons, leaning down and studying Jae's wounds closely. "She'll be fine. You did very well, Jaebell. Do not blame yourself for what you could not control. Did you happen to remember where you threw the dart that they used to infect you?"

“Because I’m male…my my someone is rather jaded isn’t she? Just because you’re an unmarked female you think I’m can’t control myself? Please…you’re not even in season.” Snuffing a breath at her as she walked past in the drunken fashion, still spouting her distrust based on his gender. Personally he found is amusing. “I’ll make note to keep my claws to myself then.” Following after her till he was in stride with her, and flaring a wing lightly to let her have something to lean against and get balance back as she tipped to one side every now and then. Pretenses of helping to keep the good graces of the group for now till he could think how to correct this all. Damn Laerehte seemed to be a step ahead.

Jae laced an arm around his shoulders for the trip back between ships, contemplating more dark things in her own head. Things that were still unsettling and needed to be voiced but she couldn’t bring herself to let the words escape her lips. Speaking them herself would make them all too real. But she stayed obediently still as Kaznec started right in on field triage of sorts to what wounds that….squid thingy…had given her when she’d pulled it off of her. The damage on him didn’t go unnoticed either though, seeing as he seemed to have a few…talon gashes? Now why would he have those? Rider dragons maybe? “I don’t know what happened, I just started feeling so weak all of a sudden.” She held back the ‘I’m sorry’ that wanted to follow, already knowing what he would say to that. But a look to Eilynne who pretty much backed up her ‘sorry’ theory. “There was a dart involved? I didn’t feel anything…save that…thing…which I threw in the sand.” Squinting an eye lightly at a twinge of pain.

Sylin came to float by Kaz’s horns, seemingly watching him as he went about doing his thing. “Proud I am of you Son of Lycear. Proud would your Father be as well.” But at the same time it seemed to be analyzing them as it blinked in rhythmic fashion. “Dark blankets Again for All. I will Answer what Questions you had before the Fray, when you are Finished tending the Apprentice Strategist.” A dulled intensity before it zipped off to more or less ram into Xeke, producing a bright purple light. "You will Speak with me about the Game you are playing with Them. Areesa as well, if there is more Information from that Source."

She adjusted her hat slightly from having held it against her head to keep it on from the ride. “No, it wasn’t. And I wasn’t scared…it surprised me.” Though she jogged to the back to the boat, leaning again railing to watch her ship as it lay crippled in the sand. Taking off her hat, she held it to her chest and bowed her head. No she wouldn’t cry for her beloved ship, but she would indeed mourn in a way. First the sadness, then the anger…though who would be receiving the brunt of that anger was debatable.

Another clop of hooves on the decking signaled Savryn's landing and she trotted her horse over to her friend, ruffling the other elf's hair. "See, I told you when you go wanderlusting that things are never dull. Though we're a tad worse off than we need to be..."

Hunter looked over at Gem, and stepped down to the deck and walked over to her.

"She's not ruined. crippled, but not dead. We can patch her up, I'll help with that. we just need to get some space, and then we'll settle down and come back in the morning. Fang won't be able to raze her just yet, he's got plenty of his own repairs to deal with first before he can even move close enough to use the Claw."

Glacing over at Thobias.

"All your crew are safe. we got them out of the sands as fast as we could. most are down below, getting something to eat. I would suggest you both should do the same."

"Fang would do anything." He knew he was hurting her but the wounds had to be clean or sand or grime or otherwise, or else they would be more prone to infection. Sylin's words were heard but he merely shook his head in response, moving from the large gash to smaller scratches along her arms and shoulders. "Nothing to be proud of. We are just as broken as Fang is. There was no winner in that battle." But as Eilynne joined them, he glanced at her with a blink and frowned immediately. Infected? Dart? 'They' must have meant Fang and his crew... but he didn't like the possibility of Jae falling sick again. "Can you cure her?"

A sudden humming at Sylin's attack though no one would ever know if he had found it offensive. "Game? With who? I don't play games. That is precisely why Areesa finds me so annoying and gives me nicknames that I don't deserve."

Shyrae laughed softly and wrapped an arm around her friend, reaching out and shaking her head. "You're definitely right about that. I wouldn't be battling pirates back at home, that's for sure." Taking quick inventory of the ship, she nodded though Savvy couldn't see it. "We didn't lose anybody in the fight though. The ships can always be repaired but lives cannot and you know that better than most." Blinking then, "I thought you were staying below with Sky?"

Letting Gem have a moment to mourn her ship properly though he had a feeling they'd be fixing her up in no time, he glanced at Hunter and nodded. "Good. Gem's crew comes first then her ship." Suffering great losses was always hard but at the very least enough lives had been spared. Walking over, he laced an arm around Gem's waist and gently tugged her away. "Hunter's right. A hot meal and some rest is just what you need. You can make plans after."

"I assumed it was a dart since it affected you so abruptly. It seemed as if he injected something into your bloodstream that significantly reduced your power and effectively drained you." Something she threw onto the sand. "I hesitate to give her anything since I do not know what was used on her in the first place. It would be a good idea to find whatever it was so the 'thing' can be analyzed and an effective remedy created. Meanwhile, I can give her something to begin to build her strength back up which will in turn speed her healing." Reaching into her robes, she removed an iridescent amulet and handed it to Jae. "Keep this around your neck until you feel strong enough to take it off. It will work in such a way that you will not alert any searchers to the fact that you are steadily being healed. I am still worried about lurkers."

Areesa snapped into motion and immediately defended her mistress. "Lynnie plays no games, Sylin. You're just jealous 'cause she can do somethin' that you and Lycear haven't been able to do."

"He'll go after her if her really wants to spite me...send me a message if you will. After all, one isn't a captain if there is no ship." Of course her hopes were up that they could save her ship...but reality was always harsh and you never knew what was in store. But a lot nod at the mention of crew and food, dropping her hand from her chest with hat still in hand as her first mate...well whom would be her first mate if she had a ship...tugged her away and down towards the galley. "I suppose."

The motion of the end of her tail was probably the only thing that really betrayed her pain seeing as she was trying to keep it out of her facial expressions and what not. She kept still as possible for him, knowing he wasn't going to be satisfied until he felt wounds were going to be okay or were dressed or healed in some manner. Though she looked away from them both as they speculated over what could be wrong with her now. "Please....there's no need to fuss. I feel fine, save a little drained I'm sure it will pass." However she did settled the pendant around her neck to please them, and hey if it worked then it was all the better right? "If it helps...it was some squid like thing...but really, I think I'm fine."

"The Young Dragons." Light flaring again for a moment before going back to its particular soothing shade of red. If red could ever be considered a soothing color. This was not a matter it was comfortable with regarding those two. Fluttering in color intensity then as Areesa added in two more cents to the ever crowing coin pot. "Marking is not a Plaything or Battle Plan."

"Technically...they can. But they're never the same." Shrugging nonchalantly with a bit of a grin before a blink. "I was...and then I got irritated with this pirate business. She's safe. Left her tied to a support beam. In the non painful way."

Fang was walking out in the sand, casually, though looking through the shifts for the traces of the squid like creature..it was too young, and too weak, to get far. Panic always worked to his benefit.

finding the trail, a nearly invisible shift in the sands. unless you knew what you were looking for, you'd probably walk right by it. taking a dart out of a pouch, he held it up over the sand, until the squid burst out of it and wrapped around the dart, venomed barbs trying to inject it's fast working weakening agent into the wood.

The other was surely lost. if black knew what it was, then he should have known it was far too dangerous for him to let it live. even a dragon his size could easily fall to one...and letting a smaller one loose would only attract the much bigger ones that normally fed on Goliath worms. But just in case, he'd have to keep his eyes open. those things could attach ships, like the old Krakken stories from millenia past.

So back to the Serpent, looking over repairs. He knew that thing wasn't a dragon. even a dragon in neutral form wouldn't be able to squeeze through the hole made by cannon strikes. and there was nothing any mage had ever mastered to change their own shape so quickly. he was well aware that the dragon had been white the first time they's ecountered the Chimera and Claw, and this time she wasn't. then she slid into a hold much too small for a dragon, yet came out of the interior of the ship as one.

"And keep an eye for signs of the Riders. I imagine they'll be sending a delegate to us soon enough to question about that mystery thing."

Hunter let them both go, before watching Des being supported like a drunk over toward his ship, and flopping down over by it, holding her paws over her head.

"And you call me hot headed."

leaning over the railing at her to which he got the dragon version of 'the finger' in response. his attention moved toward the black. he didn't trust him. again, much to convenient timing.

"thanks for the assist."

Wrapping a bandage around her stomach and over the gash, he adjusted her top a little and turned his attention fully onto the Laerethe. Did 'thing' mean that it had been alive? In one sense, he was curious about the potential of such a weapon but at the same time, his lips twitched at Eilynne's admittance that she couldn't do anything but reverse the effects of the poison or whatever it was... How were they even supposed to know that it was going to be effective? The return of strength could be temporary or lost once the amulet was taken off. "We have to get to the source of the cause then. I can go back, find the squid thing so that we can analyze it. Or find Fang and bargain with him for the cure... or something..." Trailing off, he stared at the ground, blinking for a moment. Bargain? With what? He was being rash, impulsive... Which he never was... Scary thought.

"It was apparently the only way to put to rest Kaz's anxieties about the situation. I assume Eilynne saw the reason and the subsequent potentials in it, or she wouldn't have advocated it." Though a moment later, he zipped through Areesa and took to hovering around her. "You don't know that she's accomplished anything. May have made it worse, if anything."

"You tied her to a support beam?" Trying really hard not to let her tone spike on that one. It was for the best considering Sky's curiosity and the orders she'd been given as well. Heading down below deck, she quickly took to undoing her friend's handiwork although it soon became apparent that she was going to have to cut the knots. Savvy may be blind but she could tie a mean knot. "You really didn't want her escaping, did you? You okay, Sky?" Asked as she was cutting the dragon free.

She made a noise and her rune began flickering a little faster in her agitation, the green flare of Xeke's melding with her taking on a decidedly more evil tint. "Lynnie did what she did for reasons of her own. She knows a lot more about marking than you ever would, Sy-lin. And 'sides, they didn't even finish the ritual. It'll wear off if they don't and you know it. And if not and they do complete the ritual, then it was their choice and they'll have pretty dragon babies and everything will be just fine."

"I don't believe that is a good idea, Kaznec. It could easily be a trap and that pirate is waiting for you to do just that. This squid thing has likely already been retrieved in some form or fashoin." Shaking her head. "No but I believe you had the same thing occur, did you not? You began to lose speed, lose altitude and weakened considerably midway through the battle. How did you manage to remove it and regain your energy so quickly?"

Gold eyes turned to the captain, watching him. “I told you that you wouldn’t get through without trouble. Just unlucky for you that Riders were the least of your worries.” Turning a look to Des with a shade of his head before a sigh that gave a puff of smoke from nostrils. “If you need more…you’re still in my territory.” Which was more or less saying he’d ‘help’ them if needed. Gaze shifting past the captain to the crowd on deck before back to him. “The white probably got the same as Kaznec did. Not poison so much as leeching.” He was only saying it because his nephew seemed to be on the side of ideas better left alone. Fang would probably kill him just for spite’s sake. Listening easily enough to the conversation between dragon and Laerehte, he decided to interject. "I got it off of of him." Turning a look back down to the pirate. "You're nearing the outskirts of the salt beds now, you'll find a sheltered place to dock not too far out now."

Her protests were seemingly going unheard as he continued to speculate. Now why was he thinking about going and doing something that could get him hurt? “No Kaznec don’t. I’ll be fine. I don’t want you taking that risk. Please.” Slight begging tone to her voice, hoping that would pull him back to better senses.

Now some things were plain as day to see, even for Seons. Sylin knew, Xeke and Areesa, Lycear knew, and probably a handful of people who watched them long enough could tell certain things. Things that were being kept from each other and reasons that appearances of other sorts were being given. “Does he Understand what he’s Done and how it will Affect them Both?” But a few pulses as Areesa reminded of that very important fact. Sylin was worried, perhaps much like a mother would be. "I merely mention Things for the Sake of the Son. I would not Enjoy watching him Lose more than he Has."

"Gently tied." Personally she found it kinda funny, though she knew Shyrae probably found it less so. "I was tying quick."

Sky was not a happy girl. She didn't like being tied up as she was and was quite happy to stretch wings and such out as she was cut free, nuzzling at Shyrae with hugs of course in thanks. "SKy okay. Hungry, but okay." Though her tail obviously said she was frustrated with things at the moment. "Noise?"

See, it hadn't been a good idea. He didn't even know what he was talking about, it had just... come out. And if everyone was telling him no, then he was obviously wrong. Eyes moving from Eilynne to Jae at the tone of her voice, he gave them a light nod. It may make her feel better if he didn't go, after all she was the strategist and could sometimes weigh the pros and cons more clearly than he could. But no one knew if she would be "fine", not herself and not even Eilynne. And that, made him uneasy. A blink at the Laerethe's question though and he looked down at himself. Just a few scratches here and there, most of his problems were always internal anyways. Thus he shook his head. "No, I could still fly. I felt a slight weakening but..." Trailing off as his uncle suddenly interrupted and he stared at the black dragon for a moment. That's what he had been trying to do? Matching his uncle's gaze for the moment, he reasoned out his thoughts. "You... knew about the squid thing. You got it off of me before it had fully affected me because you knew what damage it could cause. Then you know how it works, you can help her."

Another point in the books for why this one can't be trusted. how would he know about something that apparently only Fang knew of. or at least he'd never even heard stories of something that could do that to a dragon.

but he gave black a nod, and glancing at Richards, left the ship under his command up top and went down below to the galley were Gem and her crew were.

"there's a safe port close by. we'll take a night there, and then we can come back and salvage the Claw."

If there was anything left of her.

"We're in a big mess with this. but we might have a better answer out of it if that elf cooperates."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 04, 2008 11:35 pm

"Lynnie told them both everything they needed to know before doin' it." She'd been right upfront with them and explained the whole situation and what it meant. Of course she hadn't mentioned certain hormonal changes or latent desires surfacing, nor had she told them that it would be impossible for a marking ritual to even occur if Kaznec didn't have some kind of feeling for Bellah. She calmed considerably and her bouncing ceased completely. Sylin was right. Kaznec had been through so much and perhaps this wasn't the best way to go about such things. "Neither would I or Lynnie. But don'tcha think this could be good for him?"

Eilynne nodded, pleased that Kaznec's line of thinking was matching hers exactly. She'd been piecing things together and realized that if in fact the black dragon knew what it was and how it managed to work then he could also provide more information on it. "Yes, dragon. Do tell us what you know."

Quick didn't even begin to cover it. Returning the girl's hug and petting through her hair lightly, she nodded. "Good. Then we'll go get you something to eat and everything will be much better." She frowned at the question then shook her head. "Battle sounds. Cannons being fired, that was the big boom. And there was a lot of shouting and whatnot. Did it scare you?"

He was playing in a bowl of whatever the galley had served him, not really eating but watching Gem do the same. Hunter was trying to make things better but Thobias looked up sharply. "Which elf? The dark one or the blind one?" And what did the elves have to do with their current situation anyway? "I still say we should just blow Fang out of the sands..."

"The blind one. she pulled a fast one on everyone on board, including those star-eyed pests. I'll explain that later."

shaking his head lightly.

"Fang is the most dangerous on the Sands because he can take the smallest setbacks and turn them in his favor. It used to be the black dagger until her captain went missing and thier endless stream of substitutes. both the claw and the chimera simply can't match him on firepower alone. which is really all we have. none of the dragons with us are in any condition to be trying thier luck again."

settling down and folding his hands on the table.

"Whatever that..creature that Bell claims was attached to her was, it turns dragons into infants in minutes. I mean he was able to manhandle bell like she was nothing. she couldn't even force his hands off her. and who knows how much more damage that thing could have done."

"The only way to beat fang is to somehow cripple his range and guns. something none of us are equipped to do. The only ship I can think of that could take the Serpent head to head is the Burning Prince. or the Dagger, if she had her old captain at the helm again."

But on to other matters.

"anyone besides me find it extremely strange that Fang didn't pull back when that Black showed up at just the right time to 'rescue' our shapeshifting annoyance? He didn't even blink when that one came for the Serpent. And now we learn that Black got one of those things of Kanzec, yet didn't retaliate against the Serpent. anyone find that odd?"
