Sam nodded in agreement. "If I could borrow yours, that would be a huge help. As far as getting there...Why don't we Fly to Violet City from here, I'm not big on caves, and from there we can walk to New Bark Town. That way, we can end up battling some Trainers too. As long as you and Aska are okay with that."

“Alright, Jett. I’ll take you up on that offer! Terumi! How about a hypnosis?” Scarlet asked politely. He had to get on this thing’s good side so it wouldn’t try and suffocate him at night, after all. With any luck, they’d pull off another win, but it sure as hell wouldn’t be easy
Terumi apparently thought it was a decent enough idea. His eyes began to glow ice blue before they released a series of violet pulses of energy at that thing that took down Cindy. The Gastly chuckled to itself at the prospect of putting River to sleep. It would make hitting lick without getting psychokinetically torn apart molecule by molecule so much easier.

"Sounds like a plan," Miharu said, dismissing Sam's last comment with a wave of her hand, certain that the Pidgeot would be more than glad to fly them over to Violet City. She removed the bird's PokeBall from her belt and released her in a flash of light. Aska crowed loudly and stretched her large wings, looking from her trainer to Sam with a surprised expression. It seemed the friend Miharu had made yesterday was still around, and Aska was a little surprised by it. She nudged Miharu's shoulder with her beak and cooed, glancing back over at the other girl. "Aska, will you take us to Violet City?" Miharu asked, smiling when the Pidgeot gave an agreeable chirp in reply. She crouched low, ready for the girls to climb onto her back. "That is, if we're done here," Miharu said, looking back to Sam. "If so, let's get a move on!"

"Well fine then." Mike said to the Ninetales, frowning at the Pokemon's uptight attitude. "Just like his trainer." the boy said under his breath, shooting a preemptively defensive look at Keegan should he have overheard that comment. He was about to open his mouth to say something when a frighteningly familiar voice rang out in his head. Karri! Mike thought, whipping around. "H-hey Karri! How's it uh, goin'?" A shaking hand reached its way into Mike's pocket and withdrew Portabello's Ultra Ball. As nonchalantly as possible (and most likely failing miserably), Mike tossed the ball behind him, releasing his Breloom. "Oh hey P.B.!" Mike said, trying to shift his focus away from the Psychic Pokemon.
What is wrong, master? He would have followed up with something along the lines of 'You look tense', but at this point it was pretty much implied that as long as Mike was breathing, he was on the edge about something.
Nothing aside from the fact that there is a psychic Pokemon right near me and I don't want her getting in my head! Mike looked back at Karri and waved, smiling and shaking his head like he was scolding Portabello about something. The boy rolled his eyes. "Grass types, am I right?"
The Breloom leaned to get a look at the Pokemon in question. Karri? he asked, a bit confused. Master, what must we worry about from Mistress Karri?
Everything! She's a psychic Pokemon, that means she can get into my mind, read my thoughts! That's a big no no! I want you to stop her if she tries.
Portabello wore a somewhat worried expression. M-me? Stop Mistress Karri? Master, I will perform your order to the best of my ability, but I don't think I'll be able to-
Just like, I dunno, make sure you're in between me and her. If she wants to get in, make her have to ask you and you have to ask me, then tell her I said no!
Yes, master. replied the Breloom.
You're right. Xanthos would have been a better choice, but he's back in the lab! What a stupid move on our parts!
But I didn't...
"Yeah! How about that!" Mike blurted out to Mitsu's comment. "Who would have thought it would be my birthday on today of all days. How crazy, huh? It's like, almost ironic or something! It's ironic, right?" he asked, looking to Keegan. "Man, I'd LOVE an apple! Where are Kasiya and Sasha and Kilik and Nina and Sabrina?" He looked at his watch. "We should probably head to the Gym soon, it's almost time to leave!"
------
"Um," Sasha mused, waiting to swallow her bite to continue. Manners. "Where could zh'ey be?" she sucked in her lower lip as she thought. "Z'he Gym?" the girl said with a shrug. "I don't know where else z'hey could be meeting up, so perhaps we could go zh'ere?" The pink haired girl gathered her plate and tray, downing the last bit of milk in the glass before bringing her dishes to the proper place. "Merci." she said to the lady behind the counter.
Sasha ran her fingers through her long hair, twirling one of the ends as she thought. Omelette followed the girl's finger with her little eyes, entranced in Sasha's almost hypnotic movement. "Shall we be off?" she asked, hooking her elbow and smiling.

Karri pouted, upset with Keegan's lackluster response. You're no fun, though I suppose it makes sense with all the stuff that's going to happen today she thought to herself. No one ever returned her affections, it was so disappointing.
She waved at Mike, though not giving him an answer as she watched him fumbled around with a Pokeball. It wasn't like he was looking for one anyways. The Pokemon crossed her slender arms taking in a few deep breaths, as she waited for Mike's theatrics to pass. His little show was much too obvious. Portabello hadn't been there to begin with and he was clearly on edge after she made her appearance, because really, no one acted like that around Mitsu. The girl just wasn't terrifying or scary or even remotely intimidating.
Karri looked at the Breloom visibly annoyed, "You can tell Mike that I'm not going to read his mind. In fact, I'm offended he would think so." Her pout turned into a full on frown before she recalled herself into the red and white sphere. She'd made it a policy to respect people's privacy, save for Mitsu's but that was an understood agreement. And being the Psychic type she was, her skills were sufficient enough to keep unwanted stray thoughts at bay and out of mind. Channeling her "speech" required a completely different method than "reading" answers too. Karri had perfected the art of separating the two relatively quickly after each evolution. In fact, she did with with as much ease as it takes for humans to breathe or blink. It was so natural.
Mitsu, shook her head. Karri was touchy at times, though it was uncharacteristic of her to lose her temper at a time when they needed to be calm and level headed. She's just nervous. There's been a lot going on and chances are it could turn into a Slateport-esque event. It'll be fine though. It's always fine. We always make it out fine. Mitsu breathed, unconsciously touching her Pokeballs that sat across her waist. Her Pokemon were strong, they'd take care of her. "It'll all be fine," she mumbled to herself, unaware.
Mike's sudden, panicked outburst caught her attention and before she knew it the green apple soared from her hands and flew in an arc at Mike. Hopefully he'd catch it. After all he'd LOVE an apple. "Sasha and Kasiya are inside the cafeteria right now. I'm not sure about Nina or Sabrina, and I'd be willing to put money on the fact that Kilik's probably training somewhere," Mitsu noted, counting off her companions on her fingers, five in total.

Jasper had sort of zoned-out while he waited for his Pokemon to be returned, so naturally he was a little startled when the nurse snapped her fingers in front of his face to get his attention. "Your Pokemon are fully healed," she told him, her voice still sugary-sweet and cheerful as ever. Jasper blinked and looked down at Ditto, who was perched on the counter top in front of him and bobbing up and down happily. The Pokeball with his new Paras was resting in a tray next to the energetic blue blob. "Thank you for using the Pokemon Center," the pink-haired beauty went on. "We hope to see you again!"
Jasper tucked Paras' Pokeball into his pocket and stared at her for a moment. "Wait, what? What did you say?" he asked incredulously.
"Thank you for using the Pokemon Center. We hope to see you again," she repeated, this time giving a little bow.
"You hope to see me again? What, does that mean that you hope my Pokemon get hurt again in the future so you can treat them or something?" Jasper's brow creased as he frowned. Ditto simply continued to bob on the spot, making happy little noises with each movement.
The nurse's smile didn't falter, though her right eye twitched slightly. "No, not exactly, though I can see how one might arrive at that conclusion. It simply means that we are here whenever you need us, night or day. This is your first time using a Pokemon Center, isn't it?"
Jasper rolled his eyes. Was it that obvious? He nodded and Ditto squeaked with laughter until his trainer scooped him up and stuffed him back in the bag. "Sorry, it's been a long day so far," he grumbled. "Thanks for healing my Pokemon." The nurse continued to smile at him and she waved as the brown-haired boy adjusted his bag and excited the Pokemon Center. 'Was that girl for real? It's like she's a robot or something, always smiling and cheerful...' The sliding doors whooshed open and he stepped out into the morning air. It was still fairly early, though that's what he got for waking up at four. He mounted his bike and pedaled north, New Bark Town and a visit with Professor Elm his next goal.

Robin smiled and took the ball from her friend. "No problem. I will be right back ok? Black*Star you can do some target practice with them as well. After all I can't have you getting rusty either. Listen to everything Jake says ok? If you don't I won't use you in my next gym battle." Robin threatened as she gave the Totodile the most serious look she could muster. That being said she headed into the pokemon center carrying both Ace and Bibarel.
Still sitting on the table Black*Star gnawed on the now empty plastic bottle. Not use him in the next gym battle? No! How could he show off how cool he was if he wasn't in the battle! Glancing over at Jake Black*Star narrowed ruby red eyes at him for a moment before deciding that it shouldn't be to bad should it? Hopping down from the table Black*Star headed over to where Jake and Turtwig were. The prideful Totodile glared at the Turtwig who was clearly no where near as cool as he was, before looking up to Jake ready to listen and prove just how much better he was.
Inside the pokemon center Robin waited patiently in the small line listening to some complaints from a few younger trainers. It seemed like Roark was in a bad mood for unknown reasons and had been particularly harsh in thrashing the new trainers. Frowning slightly Robin wasn't quite sure why the rock gym leader was in such a bad mood today, he seemed really friendly yesterday. Maybe he had slept wrong or something? Either way Robin hoped it wouldn't be to hard for Jake.
When it was her turn she stepped up to Nurse Joy and gave her a big smile. "Hey again, could you heal up Ace here and my friends new Bibarel?"
"Of course, your with the young man outside right? His Bidoof evolved just now?" The curious nurse asked as she took a very well behaved Ace and Bibarels pokeball over to the machine.
"Yeah! It was really cool! Ace there was the one she was fighting when it happened." Robin pointed over to the Monferno who didn't really seem to like being carried around like he was now.
"Well glad to hear you guys are working hard out there. Make sure you don't get yourselves to hurt though, you aren't trying to kill each other." Nurse Joy gently reminded Robin. The girl just blushed slightly at the slight reprimand but she waited patiently for her pokemon to get healed. When the machine beeped Robin thanked the nurse and headed back out, this time Ace refused to be picked up and carried around.
~~~~~~
"All right I am gunna start off with Glameow!" On of the girls grinned from the other side. Tossing out her pokeball Dante got to see the ugly cat he had seen before only on paper. The other girl was a bit less showy and only gave them both a small grin as she tossed out her pokeball to reveal a Pacharisu. Each of their pokemon looked like it had just spent a the day at a spa instead of training.
"Are you ready battle partner?" Dante's blond companion grinned at him as she tossed out a pink ball of some sort to reveal a very pretty looking Mismagius. The ghost pokemon seemed a little out of place in the bright lights as it floated eerily over the soft grass. It looked like it was really well taken care of, though more of a show pokemon then a battling one.
Dante's own pokemon were all for battle though and he didn't really groom any of them except for Apollo, and that was for health reasons. Not really caring all that much about his pokemons appearance Dante tossed out Xannon's pokeball. The dusty looking Baltoy looked really out of place next to all the clean and pretty looking pokemon he was fighting against.
Kilik sat down on the ground, panting. It was as if he'd used up all of his energy in this training session. He looked up at Cable, who was looming over him. Flareon jumped onto his trainer's shoulder and Weezing hovered down to Kilik's eye level. "Great job," he laughed, placing his hand on the purple sphere's head, "You revealed a very important aspect of Cable's new form that possibly would've gone overlooked! I'm proud of you!" He coughed and blew the smoke out of his face when Weezing got excited due to Kilik's words of encouragement. He stood up slowly, his knees popping. "Ugh," he groaned, recalling both Weezing and Cable. Mike was the only one who knew he'd evolved - he'd like the news to be a surprise for everyone else. Flareon licked his cheek and then found himself being sucked back into his Pokeball as well.
"Well," he stretched his arms high into the arm and yawned, "Wonder where everyone else is? What's taking them so long?" he jumped from the arena to the staircase and went down the hall into the lab to heal his Pokemon, most notably Weezing. Though he was one of the best walls around and took hits like nobody's business, Kilik had to make sure that all of his Pokemon were at perfect health and stamina for the day ahead. He may not get another chance to heal up. The boy placed the Pokeballs onto the machine in the laboratory and flipped the switch, the Pokeballs flashing and pulsing with light. Within a few minutes, the machine shut down and all his Pokemon were back in top form. "They'll be here shortly," he said reassuringly to himself, "It's not like they'd leave without me!" Kilik ran out to the Arena once again, jumping onto the platform that hung over the boiling lava.
"I wish I could take Treecko with me," he pouted, tapping his foot while he waited for the others, arms crossed over his chest while he stared at the large metal door, waiting for it to open again. "I'd love to see her evolve too." C'mon guys. I'm waaaaaiting.
-*-
"SHARE A ROOM?" Mazarin roared, slamming his hand on the table. "I will certainly love to do so!" He looked over at Train then at Carlos. "See, what's gonna go down is you get a bed," he pointed at the other boy, "and then WE get a bed. To ourselves. Together." He wrapped his arm around Train and pulled her close, grinning his large, dopey grin. "If I had known a Contest was going on, I would've suggested we just make camp outside."
"But that's no way for a lady to sleep, no sir!" he stuck his nose into the air, "And by golly, if I have to sleep in the same bed as a girl I just met in order to protect her, then by Jove, I will!" He laughed heartily and swiped the key from her hand. "Much appreciated, Train, darling, now let's get sitchy-ated. Unless you two would rather eat a little somethin-somethin' before bed, y'kna-mean?" He looked at the room number on the key and sped off towards the bedroom.
What does that name even mean...? Jett found the random thought happen upon him and momentarily distract him while Scarlet tried to incapacitate his friend. Um... it doesn't sound like anything I've heard...
River, however, was ready for anything that floating ball of gas could throw at her. She sneered slightly at the thought of how she had defeated that other one; what should the problem be? It's using the same thing Athena tried to use on Jett, River noted when the Hypnosis hurried toward her. She wouldn't have that, that was for sure.
So the little white Pokemon darted forward, her legs like a blizzard descending upon the dirt as they carried her forward. The Emotion Pokemon hurled herself off of the ground with a single bound, trying to carry herself as high as she could. With a single, well-placed flip, she managed to barely avoid the dreaded rings of fatigue and landed right on her feet.
"You know what to do," Jett called from the sidelines, winking to his companion. River offered him her brightest smile and darted toward Terumi, the air distorting slightly around whatever appendages she had at the end of her arms.
Here goes nothing! River thought as she leapt forward, releasing the Confusion to attempt to close the few feet gap between her and that sadistic Gastly. She landed and skipped forward slightly, giving her best battle glare to the Ghost/Poison-type. She was no longer the terrified Ralts, that was for sure.
---
While drama, friendships, and new journeys had started to build up across the world of Pokemon, Amethyst Maple remained secluded in her own little world. The young brunette gazed fondly at her energetic Pokemon, who beamed at her with a sort of proud sleepiness they had earned from all their training.
"Not too long," the girl commented with a swift glance to her PokeGear. "Maybe we should take it easy and find someone to talk to..." She dared to think of attempting to challenge the gym, but after her experience with the mountainous trainer and her lack of time available, it would not end well. Amy decided to set an alarm for an hour before the contest, and motioned for her Pokemon to come with her back into the city.
I haven't thought about my other part for being out here... Amy thought with a tinge of guilt. I need to find Dad... and wouldn't Kanto be the best place to start? There really wasn't a reason why Kanto would be best, and when Amy realized she came here for the contest, she felt even guiltier.
"Mom would tell me that this is my journey," the coordinator chuckled half-heartedly to her faithful Bayleef. "She would tell me to worry about keeping myself safe and to be the best I can..." She began to bump into passerby, who in turn shot her nasty looks. Amy didn't notice in the slightest. How could she say that...? I can't enjoy myself when my father is out there, lost...
Amy found herself stumbling into the PokeCenter, recalling her tired Pokemon, and placing them on the counter with a muttered, "Thank you." She sat in the lobby, waiting and thinking of what she could possibly do. A scared coordinator who can't even battle outside of a contest dealing with whatever has her father? Amy thought bitterly, glaring at the tiled floor. That'll be a lot of help...
To learn the basics of being a trainer... She sat up a little, blinking some. The previous failure of a battle flashed before her eyes. I promised them I wouldn't stop trying... and I'll step up my game. Amy gazed up to the ceiling of the PokeCenter, resolve fresh in her blue eyes.
I'm going to learn the basics... and I'll challenge gyms and contests alike! Dad, I'll get stronger for your sake!
Scarlet slammed his palm into his face. Of course hypnosis would miss. It was almost pointless to try against such a limber pokemon. “Okay. Okay. It’s cool,” he said more to himself than Terumi. “Try and dodge it and follow up with Lick!” Scarlet could see the telekinetic waves that brought down Cindy forming around River’s hands, and as he unconsciously hugged his Quilava a bit tighter, he was hoping that Terumi had some way to evade it.
He did. The Gas pokemon seemed to dissipate, splitting into two gas clouds. One headed to the left, and one headed to the right, both of the purple, hovering masses circling around the Kirlia with an almost shocking speed. The clouds reformed, with Terumi directly behind River, tongue out, dripping with luminescent spit. He made his move, attempting to drag his tongue across her back, as he absentmindedly wondered when he’d learn a new move.
Sam nodded, sending a friendly hello to the Pideot before slowly approaching. She was sure that she could handle it this time.
"No problem at all...." she whispered as she climbed atop the bird. She hoped she wasn't hurting Aska by gripping her feathers too tight, but truth be told, she was still scared of Flying. Not as scared as the first time, but still pretty scared. She smiled uncertainly at Miharu, biting her lip and breathing deeply. She extended a hand. "Need any help?"
Jett's opponent was certainly sweating under the pressure, and the trainer merely focused on that evil little ball of gas. Lick was super-effective, if I remember right... he thought, scowling a little. But it wasn't that powerful... and I think she's a much higher level... What I should be concerned with is the fact that I have no attack other than Confusion to use.
River glanced around nervously, hating when she couldn't see her opponent. And there it was: that familiar sticky feeling of a phantom tongue that left her filled with dread. The Emotion Pokemon delicately cringed and tumbled forward, spinning gracefully to face the Gastly. She grew equally concerned with the fact that she only had one attack, but she figured that Gastly wasn't that better off and she and Jett could always strategize.
"Let's go for another Double Team!" Jett commanded in a determined tone. He wouldn't go down to some little ball of concentrated evil without a fight. River smiled brightly to her opponent and began to twirl. What was the point of a battle without a little of theatrical fun, right?
At the point of her dramatic pose, River seemed to preform a spontaneous mitosis to an extreme. Two more of her appeared, flanking the Kirlia as they all donned that cheerful little smile. One River skipped back, bowing to the Gastly. The second swiftly leapt over it and landed, refusing to turn to face the Ghost-type.
The final River merely remained in place, and beamed up her little buddy. Plans were making themselves known in her mind and she desperately wished for the ability to giggle.
Terumi's phantom grin grew a little wider. His new friend managed to take his strongest attack without any reaction but a shiver. That meant she was super strong. It also meant that this battle would last a while, and he could take his sweet time teaching her the true meaning of fear. Terumi closed his eyes, chuckling. His chuckle grew into a triumphant, mad cackle as he threw his head back toward the heavens.
“… Dude. Focus.” Scarlet said with his eyelids lowered. He’d so have to take this thing to a psychiatrist later. But for now… “That move you used, the one that messed with Cindy’s ember. Remember? I want you to try it again!”
Terumi quit with his laughter pretty suddenly before rolling back to face the River now in front of him, black eyes quickly surveying the area. Another double team? With a huff, he decided that maybe he would listen to the Red Haired one again. He began glowing blood red, and with a pulse of energy, he activated Spite. River would find it quite a bit harder to use that rather irritating move again.
River remained apathetic throughout the phantom's cackle, remembering much scarier things in her experience. Like that forest where she and Jett were always lost and how some large golem was hurling boulders at her. Laugh all you want, the Psychic-type thought with a surge of confidence.
"Let's see if we can one-shot this thing, River! Confusion!" Jett called, giving his favorite ballerina a thumbs-up. Not really, though. He gave her his best grin and nodded once. It was her time to shine, and the better River could work against a flying (or levitating) opponent, the better she would be against Falkner.
The two Rivers facing Terumi leapt into action, one hurrying forward as her arms crossed before her visage. She seemed to cross right under the Gastly, never really noticing that she had missed her target. The other River took a more proactive approach and jumped into the air, flipping for a solid kick toward that pulsating evil.
The single River behind Terumi spun on her heel and nodded to the obviously confused River. They both headed towards Terumi, zig-zagging with each other as the one aiming for a kick promptly disappeared. One clone had been used up.
The air began to distort around the zig-zagging Rivers hands, and one managed to blur as she leapt up to meet her foe. However, she managed to vanish too, and now the real River was sliding underneath Terumi, a Confusion ready in her hands.
Take this! she thought with a battle-induced fury, and she released the Confusion as she passed right beneath the Gastly. Hopefully, this would hit and be an unpleasant surprise for her little friend. And, if not, she would think of other things. She didn't even notice how the mere thought of Double Team seemed like such a bad idea to her.
“Terumi, try and watch yourself! I can’t tell which one’s real!” Scarlet groaned, noting what an absolutely irritating move that this double team was. There were three or four of the little psychic ballerinas fluttering around now, doing drop kicks and wavy hand things. “Don’t just stand there, you’ve gotta move!”
Terumi did just that. After the first clone’s disappearing drop kick, his eyes disappeared, reforming on the opposite side of his head, wide open, staring at both of them. And as they began their forward, zigzaggy charge, Terumi shot into the sky, eyes beginning to glow blue. Another hypnosis was prepped.
But that wouldn’t help. River’d fired her confusion straight up, and it hit hard. All of Terumi’s facial features instantly disappeared, the only thing in his place a black and purple haze, spreading out everywhere.
Scarlet stood there for a moment, jaw slacked. He’d just been handed his first loss. “… At least we’re outside a pokemon center…” He reached for the pokeball at his side, recalling the poison mist that was once his little friend Terumi. Then he recalled Cindy. “Well… You’re good. Like… Really good, Jett.”
