I'm a flautist... And I've been playing for 8 years and piccolo for 6.. I'm glad to finally be out of high school and in a true ensemble at college. I'm 1st chair in the Winds Symphony (top band) and I'm praying we get some people who can actually play next year.

I don't know if anyone's here that still remembers me, but... hi. xd I haven't been around in forever... close to a year, I think. Um, I'm still playing flute... I'm in my last year of high school, it's very very sad. sad I'm going to miss my band like hell. But I'm going to play in college, and I want to major in music ed, so at least I'm not giving it up; I think that would make me sadder.

I don't play piccolo yet. I guess I'm planning on getting real good on flute and then switching to piccolo, probably my junior year. (Gonna be a sophomore) So yeah. It's dumb. I had to be like...in intermediate this year because our stupid band has too many flutes.
Omg, I'm just kidding our band isn't stupid. We pwn. We pwn so hard, people have to leave the room kuz they wet themselves. ^_^
But anyways, yes. I've actually got my band final tomorrow, so wish me luck. We're just playing our scales, a song we memorized and then site reading. No biggie. But I kinda...half assed my memorizing. We'll see. xD

I can't wait for band season to start back up it's always so much fun to play music and see your friends in band class. Plus this year I'm a sophomore and I can pick on all of the little freshmen this year. Mwhaaaa.

xmusikxfreakx i'm in my last year also, and i do too want to major in music ed. i'm gonna miss all of the fun i have in band when i leave, although i'll have fun in college. crying xd Next year is my last year of high school! And i'm not going to major in anything concerning music, which is totally sad (I have flute friends all over my state, and they're all pissed at me for not doing music after high school, because i'm the #1 flute in my state blaugh ). After high school i'm going to be in Paris for a year, and I think i'll probably keep taking lessons while i'm there, just because I don't want to stop playing. And then after that year i'll be in either NYC or Savannah, Georgia for four years, so I figure if I can afford it, i'll probably try to take lessons with Jeffrey Khaner if i'm in NYC. 3nodding

Private lessons seem like a worthwhile investment. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nowhere to take them around the area where I live, so I have to settle for teaching myself and while it gives one a feeling of satisfaction, being self-taught is not the same as knowing you have earned the respect of a venerable professional. Does that make sense to anybody else, or am I weird?
As for majoring in music, I had been so sure since the fourth grade that music is my calling, but after choking at so many auditions in recent times, I am honestly debating whether I want to do it anymore. Stage fright really blows, pun not intentional; I know that I am an excellent flautist, but because my nerves get the better of me, nobody else does. :/

Those of you looking to enter college as music majors of any kind, lessons would be in your very best interest. On flute, and even on piano if you can get them. And begin reading up on music theory and listening to a great deal of instrumental music by various composers of the past and try to identify the characteristics that make them Baroque, Classical, Romantic, ect ect ect.
That's a bit of a head start. Good luck to you. Music = Love.
