I've played flute for 10 years, piccolo for 4. I'm now a music education major at one of the best universities for education in the country. I could complain about how underappricitated flutes are, but I would just sound stupid since it's so late here.. I'll do that later..

Emily-hand Isn't the term Floutist and not Flutist? Actually, it is spelled "flautist." whee Most people tend to say it wrong, though, so I pretty much go crazy with glee when somebody says a statement along the lines of, "so, you're a flautist, are you?" as opposed to, "oh, you're a flutist!"
Then, I am also a huge geek. whee

My band is pretty small. We only have 18 players in the whole band. And we have 3 flutes. Sad,Sad. We used to have 2. But then somebody else joined in.

I've played flute for six years and piccolo for three. We flautists win at life. Oh, and I always thought it was spelled 'floutist,' but you are indeed correct. razz

I really want to try some of the lower-pitched members of the flute family, like the alto and tenor (conversely noted as the "flute d'amour"). biggrin

Yeah, learning the piccolo made me want to try lower flutes too... possibly ones who don't make people's ears hurt when they're played! Although I do like threatening my friends with high G's on my piccolo...

(No offense.)
