Kain stretched slowly and begrudgingly. He did the few stretches he knew many, many times. The reason he did not know many of the conventional stretches is because he was taught to focus and stretch without having to manually pull his muscles. Instead he would meditate for a while and concentrate on each key leg and arm muscle extending them and breathing. This method of stretching left your muscles just as loose and would not leave you sore afterwards. Kain leaned back after doing the stretches waiting on another lesson order. As he lie there he thought to himself I can't believe she didn't beat me, did she do it on purpose? or am i Actually faster than her?

Iris knew no other stretches other than the ones learned in P.E.

She took these and meticulously followed them, trying to suppress the annoying memories that came with remembering the class.

Shtona sat up straight when he'd finished, looking around at his students as they finished up as well. He'd decided to leave the sparring grounds as they were. He liked how the glass reflected the light around the grounds, it made everything a little brighter. Plus, he was too lazy to turn it back, but that wasn't important. Either way he sat at the edge of the sparring grounds, watching them all finish up. While Iris finished up he asked his first question. "Who can tell me what alchemy is?"

"s**t. I don't have a notebook..." Anslia muttered quite loudly. She hadn't brought anything with her... usually there was one notebook for each experience in her life. If anything was an experience, her time at this university would be. Of course, it was the one time she'd been caught without a notebook or means to purchase one. "s**t," she whispered again.

"Alchemy is defined as being involving chemistry and transmutation circles. It's considered a black art by some people because of the transmutation circles. It used to be considered magic," Iris rattled off. She wasn't sure if what she said made clear sense. Her head was still a little woozy from jogging.

I need to get stronger, Iris thought to herself.

Kain spoke up quickly "The transforming, or Transmutation, of an object into another object of equivalent value. The law of Equivalent Exchange. Smiling he thought about his answer, it could have been better, quite better he thought but figured it would it do.

"Anslia? You're definition?"

She was still busy mourning her lack of notebook when Shtona's voice cut through her musings. "What? Oh... what I think alchemy is...changing what you have into something more useful... er... or something." She paused, reconsidering her answer. "And you told me something about transmutation circles yesterday... so... those are use to change what you already into something you need." A curt nod signalled the end of her answer. (she really had not clue.) "Like a notebook and pen," she added under her breath, disgusted with herself.

He smiled and nodded at her answer. "You were all right...and wrong. All of those were incomplete definitions. Alchemy is the act of breaking down one substance and putting it back together in another form through the use of symbols call transmutation circles. Yes, to some it's considered a black art, and yes the Theory of Equivelant Exchange plays a big part in alchemy, and yes, most people use it to make something more useful than what they have. For instance..."

He pulled out his stub of chalk from yesterday and drew a quick t-circle on the glass sparring ground. He pressed his fingertips to it and the circle flashed blue then disappeared, replaced by a spiral-bound notebook and a roughly made pencil that had no eraser. He slid both objects over to Anslia and wiped away the chalk residue.

"Each of you are now going to tell me how you think i did that. Be specific..."

Iris thought for a moment. She wouldn't be able to give the answer that Shtona was looking for, but it was all she could think of.

"You took the elements in the surrounding area, and using the transmutation circle you rearranged the elements into that notebook and pencil?"

She grimaced inwardly at how simple she sounded. Iris had thought she at least a few things about alchemy, but it didn't seem to be very true at all.

Kain thought for a second on how to word it best. "Well, you took the glass and returned it to its primal elements. Then using those basic elements, you bonded them back together in the form of a notebook and pencil." Kain frowned at his answer, never coming out right but he knew what he was saying.

Anslia's hard expression cracked. She smiled a genuine thank-you to Shonta, before replacing her stright-lined mouth and intent gaze. First page... Alchemy is the art of breaking down one substance and "repairing" it with symbols (transmutation circles <-- chalk?)

She looked up, deciding she'd just be straight with Shtona. "Honestly... I have no idea. But guessing..." Her eyes seemed to go blank for a moment. "There must be slight deposits of lead and aluminum in the ground -- pencil and spiralling. I don't exactly know where the paper came from, but maybe plant fibers in the ground? Roots nearby? And the wood of the pencil from... some tree over there." She regarded the pencil again. "No eraser because the elements for rubber weren't there already?"

He stared intently at Anslia, wondering if she'd been leading him on this entire time. "Correct..." he said, still eyeing her. "Correct," he said again, looking at the other students. "Anslia was the closest of you three, but you were all correct in some way. I didn't use the glass, but your theory on what i did was correct. Iris, you were correct, but very general. Your alchemy doesn't have to be limited to the area just around the t-circle, you can pull from the surrounding area. However, the farther you try and pull elements, the more energy it'll consume. Also, the larger the transmutation the more energy you'll consume. If you consume too much energy you may not be able to perform more transmutations afterwards, so you should always be careful when doing alchemy."

"Kain. I want you to transmute something simple for us, then we'll take turns guessing what you used."

Anslia pursed her lips at Shtona. "I told you when we first met that I wasn't dumb and that I learned fast. Don't act so surprised. It's like a recipe... or the moves you put together to get fight choreography. Just work backwards." She arched her eyebrows at him and ran her fingers over her scalp. She'd need to shave her head again soon.

Kain stood and thought. Setting his hand on the ground he used the simple Transmutation circle on the back of his hand from earlier. The ground under his hand began to glow and produced a large mirror with inked caligraphy scrawled across the Wooden frame of it. It read simply: Alchemy.

((sorry but its getting late and i have band practice EARLY tomorrow, 5am is gonna come real fast, and its gonna suck, ill be on soon after practice tomorrow)).
